I agree that both parents should have veto power on anyone watching your child ALONE (irregardless of how long they've been together). In other words, if you say you don't trust him with your kid (or even that you just don't know whether he's trustworthy) - then she needs to respect that. And she needs to know that if the tables were turned, you would give the same level of understanding. This should not even be up for debate. It's a serious decision that needs agreement from both sides.
To those who recommend a background check, give me a break. What if he doesn't have a criminal record, but is STILL a pedophile? Or what if he means well, but wouldn't know what to do if she were to choke or bumped her head?
Probably nothing bad would come of it - but it's a matter of principle. Great question - and lots of interesting perspectives... Good luck!

I know this is late notice...
But if any of you are looking for something fun to do this evening, the band I'm in is throwing a party in Overland Park to benefit a couple of great local charities. We'll be at "The Refuge", near the corner of 135th & Quivira. The actual address is 11336 W. 135th Street. There will be a $5 cover at the door. Drinks and snacks are available for purchase.
Live music starts at 8pm. If you'd like more information, check out our MySpace page at www.myspace.com/feelslikefridaykc . We are an all-acoustic band. Not too loud, and songs you'll probably know. If you do show up, please introduce yourself!
Hope to see some of you there!

That's a great story. This woman understands the true spirit and joy of giving. One of my favorite quotes by Tony Robbins: "What you give, you get to keep. What you fail to give, you lose forever."
Thank you for sharing the kitten story (from 'gregariousf30'). I wish you and your son so much happiness!

Now THAT would be a sight... I've never seen a goat singing to the moon! Natgoat, I hope you get your transportation worked out.
Someone asked about the guy/girl ratio... It's looking to be mostly guys. But I think that's to be expected. I'm bringing guy and girl friends. We're all single...
Just to clarify, I won't be bringing the band. But the next time we do an event that allows for a more full sound, I will invite them. I was hoping a few musicians would bring their own instruments and/or voices to do some improv stuff. So if you have hand drums, tambourines, guitars... You get the idea.
Musicians, I'm looking forward to connecting with you this evening. I'll put together a gameplan that's fair for all the performers. So come find me when you arrive for the details. I'll be in or near the garage. And my name is Jude.
See you all tonight!!

The event coordinator has graciously donated an empty 2-car garage for entertainment!
I have PA equipment that I can bring. We could do a combination of jam session and dance tunes. Is the driveway pretty level? If so, that could be the dance floor...
Musicians could jam till around 10 or 11pm. Then we could change to dance. I have tons of MP3s that I've used for DJ'ing wedding receptions and other events...
Any other ideas? If you're a musician, please chime in with your talent and instrument (if any) you plan to bring. If you have any specific questions for me, please e-mail them.
Thanks!

Wow - even if 1/3 of the people show up and bring a friend - this is going to be a huge event! Sounds like a great time!
Any musicians coming? Guitars? Bongos? Tambourines? Any singers? Dancers?
