Thermostat problems???
Posted: 10/29/2008 4:22:22 PM
Since I do A/C and heat for a living, I think I can offer a couple suggestions. You can try the first suggestion of the above, it happens but I don't remember if I've ever come across a stuck vent blower. If you're comfortable with taking it apart, be sure to pull the power cord on the heater, and put the wires and tubes back exactly where they came from. The others don't track as the fan wouldn't run if the breaker or fuses were tripped. You can check the T-stat by pulling it off whats called the sub base (the part screwed to the wall), it may require loosening a couple screws (usually at the lower corners if used). Then take a paper clip and bend it so you can make a connection between the terminals with small wires attached marked R and W.

You won't get shocked cause it's low voltage. If the heater starts when you jumper from R to W then it is the T-stat that's bad. Get another at depot. If it doesn't then you're better off calling your contractor back, as unless your system has, and you know how to change a thermocouple, anything else is going to require tools you probably don't have, parts you can't get yourself, and lengthy explanations of diagnostic procedures and repairs. And don't blame the tech, he didn't break it, and we don't have X-ray vision to see if somethings about to fail. If it was working when he left last time, he expected it to work at least through the season. I hate calls like this cause it feels like people think we set time bombs set to go off after we leave, however incorrect the feeling is. Good luck. 4realRU's suggestion is also something to check, as well as making sure the door covering the blower is firmly in position. The fan shouldn't run if it isn't but weirder things have happened.

Are Computers really worthwhile ?
Posted: 10/9/2008 12:37:21 PM
Well there's at least one of us out here. My work doesn't require one, and my use of mine would be replaced by dusting off my library card, and yellow pages. So for me it would be more traumatic to lose my TV. I was going to say it's a time saver, but considering all I've wasted playing games, and reading useless stuff in forums like this and elsewhere, (nothing personal intended). I'd have to rethink the statement.

Workplace harassment

I'd be willing to bet she got caught fooling around cause her husband found something, probably Internet related. And she's named you to keep her thing on the side out of trouble, and anonymous. Not much you can do past whats above, except stay far away from her. And if she talks to you, tell her “because of what you did I can't talk to you.” and get away. I'd also tell whoever you're boss is and anyone who'll listen that because of her groundless accusations, she can not and should not be allowed to work with you. Any attempt by you to try to patch things up or be accommodating to her in any way looks like you're trying to get close again, and what she said is true. She started it and her lie could hurt you badly, so stop treating her like a friend and trying to think of what you did wrong.

Right now she's the worst enemy you've ever had, and I'd be pissed to even be in the same country as her right now, if I were you.

Of course, if you're guilty, I'd loan them a dull knife to castrate you

prepaid cell phone programs

T mobile here too

It cost me $100 for 1,000 minutes and which did not expire for a year. Left over minutes were rolled over if you re-upped at least a day before your expiration date.

You can buy smaller blocs of minutes, also. I think they are the cheapest, have the best customer service, and absolutely the best reception -- in any city I went to.

Cost me about $70 for one of a small choice of phones, startup, and minutes. Bought $100 worth of minutes to put me in their “gold club” and only $10 last year to make sure the 500 minutes left rolled over. No monthly charge, minutes cost the same regardless of where or when used, even for distance, except outside the US. No contract either.

Show me where else I could get 2+ years of service with half my minutes left for less than $200. Not problem free, its hard to hear on sometimes, but who doesn't have that problem. Att used to bill me $25 a month for long distance I never used, till I had that shut off, dam ripoffs.

And had a friend tell me his daughter just rang up a $700 bill recently, good God, the only thing I used a phone for at her age was to find out if friends were home so I could come over and talk. I'm not a cheapskate either but I'd rather line my own pockets than the azzholes who constantly feel the need to find sneaky ways of relieving me of hard earned cash.

Are people REALLY as romantic and mushy as their profile states?
Posted: 8/3/2008 11:18:08 AM
I believe the written mushy stuff is like a peac cks feathers, not of much use but may catch someones eye. Actions speak louder if you ever get a chance to show some. I never did put much mushy in my various profiles though admitting to have a healthy romantic streak. And in spite of getting a great review, got little more. So I shredded it along with the attempts that followed.

Nor will I inquire as to what you'd want to see, to prevent from being accused of putting it into a profile just to get your attention. After beating my head against the wall between me and understanding what will get a few responses, the facts of accomplishing nothing combined with my headache, finally made me stop.

However, it is nice to see that some do share opinions similar to my own.

I think the key thing that the men are trying to say is that with the RIGHT woman they feel safe showing a softer side.
I have had guys who were always holding my hand, if not then I would reach for theirs. I love affection and I hate cold, unfeeling guys so maybe I seek out the romantic type.
The few guys I have really liked are not the ones who cuddle before and after sex but cuddle all night long. The ones who when they walk past they have to touch you (not there :P), but your arm, hand, shoulder etc. I don't like to be smothered and I donut think it makes a man less than a man to admit..hey she is soft and feels good against me as we are laying on the sofa watching a movie.

Need help with window a/c unit(thermastat and freezing up)
Posted: 7/24/2008 9:14:32 PM
The wire running to the compressor would be more accurate. Since I do air cond for a living I'll take a guess at whats happening. You've just passed the warranty period (of course) and you have to pull the plug to shut it off now. Unfortunately, it sounds like the digital thermostats relay points are welded closed.

A lot of parts are getting crappy since being made off shore these days. The relay or contact points are what turn it on and off when the thermostat tells it to. Unless you're mech and electrically inclined enough to replace the control, the next option is to take it to sears and see what they get to repair it. Don't be surprised no matter where you take it, if its almost as much to repair, as it is just getting a new one, and new is probably a better idea. Ones in this size range are made to be disposable and don't have things needed for being serviced easily. Another option would be to get a heavy duty timer switch, that plugs into the wall. Plug the unit into that and have it turn off at the time you want and before it freezes yer face. Good luck

Accountability/blame. What message are we sending to our youth?
Posted: 6/27/2008 10:28:37 PM
I agree that imalit's list sounds accurate unfortunately, but to play my own version of the who's to blame game, on these I'd have to say greedy lawyers with too much time on their hands got the ball rolling on most of these. With jurists, or whoever supported their getting away with this crap to begin with, a close second.

I don't agree with the OP however, in that if the parents were doing the kind of job they should be there'd be fewer problems with the obnoxious, self absorbed, brats who's lack of respect for anything but themselves, and sense of entitlement, still amaze me. And of course the ones who have the most kids, usually are the ones who are the least qualified, prepared, or really dedicated to the task of raising them well. I said usually, not always, so put down those rocks. Its sad to see it seems to take more qualification to get a puppy than a kid.

Her post #5 sounds good too. The problem starts with the ones lacking, and yet manage to sneak in. Had a guy at work who's job was supposed to know how to repair things, climb inside a machine. I do the same job and still can't imagine why, or how this guy got himself hooked on 460 volts, tore up his arm, and started sueing everyone in site. Or another who fell off a ladder he set up wrong, and did the same thing? Guess its just me, but I'd be embarassed admitting to anyone that I was so stupid, but to have to testify to it in court? FORGETABOUTIT. Must be the amount of bucks expected is worth more than their pride.
Happy to say mine can't be bought.

You've no idea how many will lose sleep over it.

Another one for the ``not even wrong'' pile. What you refer to as ``using frequency'' and ``electricity'' means using electromagnetic forces.

Use of electromagnetic forces is one way to generate electricity, also photovotaic, piezo electric, catalytic, solar, the list continues to grow. You know what you can do with your pile?
Heat it, the thermopile is a lager version of a thermcouple, which is whats used as a pilot safety in most gas hot water heaters because it produces electricity when heated. Look ma no magnets.

I heard a little bit about this somewhere, maybe NPR. From what I remember, it technically works, but it takes hours to make enough hydrogen to go to the store. It's just not efficient enough to be anything resembling practical.

If you're that gullible, go ahead and try it. It won't work. The laws of physics and chemistry are all against you. Good luck. If you go ahead, let us know how you make out. The gist of the second law of thermodynamics states that the process will never be 100% efficient.

Sorry to hear if it ain't perfect it won't work for ya, however

how long b4 the water runs out/ and how wld we then be able to "make more water"??

All this tech is making my head spin. See ya, I'm goin surfin. Oh my God! Somebody put water in my ocean!

And just what is "frequency" supposed to mean? Sound waves? Whatever it is, it uses energy. "Frequency" used in that context is an absolutely meaningless term.

Hummmm, what could this be? Maybe frequency, such as in the frequency of the power being sent to your home (60 Hz in the US), and powering the computer you're using to show us your grasp of the subject.

Where exactly would you like to put the spent fuel for these "mini-reactors?"

As I've suggested before, that they toss it down the holes made by the underground bomb tests, but seems they're too busy making other things out of it, like armor piercing ammo, and who knows what else. By the time they finish the billion dollar storage facility that they can't seem to get right, there won't be anything to put in it. It might make a good tourist attraction though.

a sub that runs very quietly using seawater as propulsion

Real world submarines use screw propellers

Which push against it “using seawater as propulsion.” Don't work well without it. Just nit picking
How about something wilder? http://www.darpa.mil/sto/solicitations/underwaterexpress/
Just so you know DARPA is the military's agency for funding civilian invention and research.

This idea is _totally_ a perpetual motion machine!

Nope sorry, just replacing one fuel for another, Don't know why perp motion keeps coming up, try to stay with the thread.

people with alot of big bucks that dont want this technology out there for obvious reasons. the gas and oil companies and even the goverment dosen't want it out there because how would they generate the big buck.

And is likely why no small time inventor will be credited with any advances, the golden rule.

He who has the gold, makes the rules.

But then rules were made to be broken, like all the rules that stood in the way of progress to date.

Are the nephilim and Jesus related ?
Posted: 6/5/2008 9:16:38 PM

So these other "sons of God" (who were their mothers?) would be half sibs to Jesus.
Would that make their offspring (the nephilim) neices and nephews of Jesus?

In the context presented, yes. Would not knowing the mothers make them **stards? Maybe. Sure took awhile for someone to actually answer the question.

Yes, yes, for all that debunk it (the whole Bible thing), lets just leave that aside for just a moment and consider the lineage possibilities.

It would have been a lot shorter and less long winded thread, had most read this line. But you finally got an answer. The right one?.......................................Only God knows.

Clear coat it with a pinch of some rainbow metalflake and it'll be rad.................

What is rad is how fast those uninvited guests will find other accomodations when you stick em' in there.

I second the poster who mentioned the device I know as a paintstick, once the corners and edges are cut in, you should be able to finish the walls in less than an hour with it. And you can use wagner power roller replacements on it for different knaps.

Wanted to say hey to Random and Designing too

If there is such a thing as Outside-the-Box, what is The Box?
Posted: 5/25/2008 9:38:47 PM
The box/ typical, average, expected, common, routine, way of perceiving, reacting to, or engaging in a particular situation.

Can you give an analogy/example? How about one where attention or inattention to (or avoidance of) it's supposedly designated boundaries affected you personally?

First one comes to mind concerns others inattention, usually while driving. My box is about 3' on all sides, which frequently is invaded by some sleeping jackass.

What was the outcome or effect when you used/thought/did/etc... one or the other?

The affect on me results in anything from flying the bird, to asphalt acrobatics in an attempt to avoid something more.

Would you approach it that way again?

Most likely

Is kissing more or less important to you in a relationship as you get older?
Posted: 5/23/2008 6:12:18 PM
I would consider myself to be a better kisser now than I was many years ago.

Sorry Boston yer gonna hafta prove it to me.

making out in a hot rod
why not still do that
what about on the car hood or blanket under the moon and stars all night long

I've got the equipment if you got the time.

Almost nothing is better than getting lost in a kiss - one that leaves you dizzy and incoherent and not quite sure where you are, unaware of anything outside the arms of the person kissing you ... Oh yes.

And I thought I was the only one.

It becomes especially important when its the only thing left that works.

Here's hoping you feel better. But I'm curious about the “laser treatment” for smoking, being a smokin sci fi fan, one of two pictures come to mind. Either runnin down the road and getting zapped in the rear with each puff, or using it to lite up by touching the beam with your smig just as it streaks past.

Tell your doctor he'd better not charge you for the quiting treatment. For the amount of taxes instigated here by the hospital lobbyists on smokes, everyone in the country's stop treatment should be covered and then some.

I've read that police hate these calls, because of the amount of times they have to fight the woman when they start to put the man in their car. So staying on the side is best.

How about sending an anonymus letter to the husband, informing him that people know what he's doing. And continuing will result in police intervention being called. It might be enough, cause once the police become involved his anger goes way up, and ability to control it even further down. Not likely, but possible.

Ethanol and stalling Nissan
Posted: 5/15/2008 1:47:41 PM
If the O-ring is between the carb and air cleaner, no its not causing a vacuum problem, but replace it anyway. I think I read that the btu content (amount of energy) is less than gas in ethanol. So at idle it has a harder time staying lit. If it runs OK at higher RPM, replace what you listed as its a good idea to, and if it still won't idle, there's a screw to adjust it usually located on the drivers side of the carb.

Look where the throttle cable or linkage attatch to a lever on the carb, the screw moves the lever and holds its position when your foots not on the gas. Turn it in half turns until it will stay running. But if you get straight gas again, it will probably idle faster. Doesn't hurt anything, but is annoying. You'll have to strike a balance if you get fuel from different sources, rather than adjusting it for different tank fulls.

And if you know someone with a later model car that is having problems like your's I'd switch stations. Fuel injection computers are made to compensate for differences in fuel quality within a certain range. Could be the station is getting bad gas. And its got kernels that don't pop in it.

My Tax Dollars
Posted: 5/10/2008 8:19:54 PM
Unfortunately, history is usually the only way to see a decent picture of what a presidents term is actually worth in benefits, or lack thereof for the rest of us. I believe the others cannot be considered on the same level as Reagan. As it was he who put into place the policies that created the surplus over time, while increasing defense spending. Which was a major part of his successful plan for a peaceful end to the arms race, and the soviets as a threat.

This was what set the stage for the economic good time had, when clinton was elected and began screwing things up, with things such as the fair trade agreement, and a quick end to the hard won surplus. But no one noticed cause times were good. And people tend to associate current conditions good or bad with the current administration. I can't believe that so many want to ride that train wreck again, even if the individual is different, its still the same pair of losers.

Electricians & Mechanics ... anyone who knows ... How does that work?
Posted: 5/9/2008 8:32:43 PM
It's just the old AM, FM, 8 track on high tech steroids. Resulting in concert hall stereo systems that will fit into a rice burner, or your back pocket. Yes, it takes a bit more gas to spin the alternator enough extra to keep the battery charged. Yes it does take more power to reproduce those low notes.

But take heart, we'll likely be gone by the time they're in our position. And by then rolling 3D holograms of the bands will be chasing the cars down the street, playing at stadium concert levels. And in spite of needing a hearing aid by 25, they will be able to hear and feel every nuance of the latest music you love to hate.

And the word “consideration” though only recently discovered, will become the most important but unreachable concept in their lives. And music to my ears.

Ok here is an honest car question. I have a 3.8 l buick, series one engine, and the computer code says the ignition module is gone. (code 42) I believe this is a typical problem for the early 90's engine. I was wondering how to test the module and is there any way of repairing it as opposed to replacing? I believe it is an expensive part.

You can also likely find one for cheap at a wrecking yard, ones that have equipment to test them might charge a bit more. Remanufactured should work too. I'd doubt that you could get into one to try yourself, many being filled with epoxy to protect the board, or from fix/ modifying it yourself.

Letting others win at games. Do you?
Posted: 4/8/2008 2:01:56 PM
Baloney, you were trying to make sure both of you had a good time. Her reaction might be something to considered as red flag. If someone could'nt recognize it as an attempt to make it more fun, and berate you for it, what other little things would set her off. Its just a game after all.

You may have messed up by confessing, but you also would have missed this little bit of personality showing through.

What do people think of a girl at a bar alone?
Posted: 4/6/2008 9:06:36 PM
I'm very surprised to see this question coming from a 24 yr old, having recently answered nearly the same question posted in over 40. Looks like womens lib should have been working on social opinions, instead of beating on men. Oh well.

All that perfectly good time and energy shot to hell.........................................Again.

Woman shocked that man stopped talking to her after he sees her pic
Posted: 4/6/2008 12:14:47 PM
I think it should be left as a choice, but those who don't post one are setting themselves up for disappointment, even if considered hot by a lot of people IRL. Assuming most are like me, in that I form a mental image of someone I hear or read, that is hardly ever close to the real people. Almost any band I've ever heard, never appears as imagined for example.

Tastes are different and flexible, a lot of folks think Angelina Jolee and madonna are hot, I can't stand either one. I also believe its easier to improve on a so so first impression, than it is to maintain a good one established on looks alone. Use to work with a beautiful Lady, fun personality, pretty face, sexy voice, but very overweight. Guys who'd only talked with her on the phone were always asking “what does she look like, hot I bet.” You could see the disappointment they set themselves up for when they found out. But having seen her to begin with, she only got more attractive to me over time.

People almost feel ripped off if they're expectations aren't met, so even a no pic hottie may be blown off just as quickly, through no fault of their own. They just didn't match the imagination.

Gold Kit....

I looked into it a little, and found its on the level. They just don't pay as much as you might get selling it some other way. I believe they will also return what you sent if you don't like the price they're offering. So its not mail your stuff and take your chances. For someone who needs the bucks and isn't concerned, or has the time to try for top dollar, it works. The ads started around here just after the time when gold jumped from $350 to $700. Just recycling with cans made of gold rather than aluminum.

Can you 2-step? If not why not?
Posted: 4/4/2008 9:09:29 PM
I'll be admitting my age, but I lived through rock n roll and had the paramedics called on more than one occasion. Through disco and never learned. And shortly after country peaked ( that Revolta guy again) and settled down a bit, I went to 1 of 2 good size places near me to see what it took to learn. Shortly thereafter both shut down. ( I forgot to warn em' I was coming) Haven't chanced it since. So not unless it involves 2 stepping on my own feet.

Winning at the track..........
Posted: 3/28/2008 10:02:12 AM
At least you realize your doing it, but be careful it can be a strong addiction. A former boss's father in law gambled away $250k before moving out of Vegas. He planned to go back and retire there. Bad idea.

An aunt used to do the same thing you do, my folks told her when you win put the original away, play with your winnings. Later she'd be back for more money. After my uncle passed she borrowed from my dad. He never got paid, and it didn't do much for their relationship.

Thinking about how hard I've worked to earn it usually keeps me from losing very much. Whats been said about casino's can be said about lottery's or the track. Would they continue if the operators were losing money on them?

What do you think of dating mature women that have never married and have no kids-turn on or turn of

Someone call the cops, Blueyes stole my answer.

I can put up with almost anything if she helps make the relationship worth it.

How can you nonchalantly find out if he is single?
Posted: 3/25/2008 8:47:25 PM
Wrong..................... the worst that can happen, is you make him nervous and he fvcks up your cabinets. Save it till the last day, then slap him on the ass, and tell him you're taking him out to celebrate the new cabinets.

Proper ladies don`t go out alone!
Posted: 3/25/2008 1:30:29 PM
No most of us aren't like that, and also think a woman sitting by herself having a drink and a burger, must be there to have a drink and a burger. But there will always be some idiot who manages to embarrass people simply by being there.

Why not pen a small sign to carry in you're purse, and stand it on the table. “Married” or what might be more effective “looking to get married”.

Ladies: your take on short guys?
Posted: 3/20/2008 8:19:00 PM
Though I rarely read threads on this subject anymore, and this is the first post to one, in over a year. A lapse in judgment resulted in stumbling across this mess, to which I had to respond.

why should we care or have an opinion,Are you uncomfortable being seen with shorties?

Beats me, I gave up trying to think of a good reason for responding on this topic a while ago. But you managed to without a good reason anyway.

I always thought they looked goofy

Funny, I was thinking the same about you.

Well it all depends upon where they're are short!

Especially when the opinions confirm its between the ears.

But to be fair one statement is true.

midgets - they need love too!

.

the role men play (or are supposed to play) in a relationship as a leader, provider, protector, & teacher. Somehow some midget or short guy doesn't quite seem to fit at least conceptually.

So what do they do in your little world, join the circus, live on welfare, pray they make the casting call for the fantasy island remake? Sounds like you're living there.

If I may take the role as teacher even if it doesn't conceptually fit with you, I believe they manage to fill all the roles listed, likely far better than you. And it wouldn't surprise me if the majority of shorter guys thought of as being the aggressor, were seen that way while trying to deal with someone with an attitude like yours.

For someone calling himself eagle, what I hear sounds more like a turkey.

Why dont women go for guys in Wheelchairs?
Posted: 3/20/2008 10:35:24 AM
Not gonna tell you about a friends hot mom who married a guy with wheels.

But will tell you not to guage your potential for finding someone on responses (or lack thereof) from what you get here. There are some good people here, but any site is going to be only a tiny fraction of the population, and not be a good indicator of attitudes in the rest of the population. Don't assume cause you don't get anywhere here, you won't anyplace else.

In fact you're guarateed to do better offline.

My experience indicates a bias here towards guys needing to be taller, to get any response in my area. So maybe you need to shop for a jacked up 4X4 chair, or a segway with hi-lift.

An added benefit is if they blow you off, you can run em' over on the way to the door.
