can't sleep ,help!!
Posted: 2/22/2013 1:48:59 PM
Funnily enough I used to regularly drop off to Dark Side of The Moon.........my most favourite ever album.
Remove all TVs from the bedroom would be my advice......also earplugs can come in handy if you have noisy neighbours ;-)

Is music important?
Posted: 2/22/2013 1:45:55 PM
I could not live without music.....it can lift you up, it can relax you...I don't really mind what musical taste someone has, it's the enjoyment of it that is important.
My family life is full of music, my son teaches and plays guitar, also works as a sound engineer....my daughter is just ending her Masters in Music Therapy . Music not only gives us all pleasure but is shaping their careers.
Just enjoy is what I say :-)

All was quiet in the large open-plan office when Lorraine went to the printer to collect a letter........
She felt a big sneeze coming on.....she tensed...she braced.....she let it go..........
OMG.........there followed a very loud ...........can you fill in the blank??
She turned to face her team.......all collapsed over their desks, 10 minutes of hilarity ensued.........did us all a lot of good, it had been a very tense week ;-)

compulsory swimming lessons for kids?
Posted: 2/9/2013 6:21:37 AM
I nearly drowned as a kid (Loch Lomond) so was keen that my own kids learned to swim as soon as possible. They were taken to the pool from about 6 months old and got lessons from about nursery age, went on to be good swimmers although my daughter still curses her broad shoulders ;-)
I can't say I ENOY swimming all that much but realise it could be a life-saver and is good exercise
It would be good if all nursery/primary school kids could get swimming lessons although as usual it all comes down to cost.

Why are benefits staff always so arrogant.?
Posted: 1/25/2013 1:36:02 PM
understand that it may take a few weeks for your claim to be finalised....usually because we are waiting for the DWP to confirm what benefits a claimant is receiving.
I am sorry you have had such an awful experience but hey, we aren't all bad

Cheers for that.....some of us do try to do our best .
You shouldn't be put in the position of having to borrow money to pay your rent. If your landlord is at all decent he should

Nothing that 3 duvets and a hot water bottle can't sort!
We have had a fair bit of snow, have a family of snowmen in the garden but the roads have been well gritted and I have been able to get to and from work ok.

Posted: 1/12/2013 7:19:45 AM
Meeeeeeeeeeee......as a kid I was not allowed a bike as mum and dad considered it too dangerous!!
I lived on my roller skates ( mine had ball-bearings in them???) but the damage I did to myself I would have been safer on a bike.
I never ever did learn to ride a bike believe it or not :-(

I work for a Local Authority up here and spend a lot of time carrying out telephone interviews with Housing Benefit claimants (both new claims and changes of circumstances)
These interviews are pre-arranged for a time that suits the customer, however I have had to deal with claimants who are , for example, on a bus, in the supermarket queue, still in bed and on one memorable occasion they were on the loo!! and there I was thinking they were pouring a glass of water ............

How to improve Call Centres?

I would suggest that all applicants for posts are put through a telephone interview first.
This may seem as if I am stating the obvious but it doesn't always happen .

Time taken up by Masters Degree
Posted: 6/4/2012 2:14:01 PM
Synergy.......No, didn't come on to boast about having a Masters. I only have an Ordinary and a very old one at that (1978)
I came on to reply to the OP with the information I have and yes, am prepared to admit that I am very proud of my daughter who already has an Honours Degree in Music and is working hard to get her Masters in Music Therapy, to enable her to work with children and adults with learning difficulties/brain injuries.
No need to be quite so nasty.

My daughter is taking a Masters in Music Therapy down in London...Roehampton Uni.
She opted for part-time over 3 years so that she can work full-time and fund her studies (she has used up her 4 year allowance )
She attends classes just one day per week but has essays and work placements on top.

My son was called Davin (Gavin)....he went to Speech Therapy and a lolly-pop stick sorted that one out !
And we lived at the foot of the Penguin Hills (Pentland Hills)
Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww.....dead cute in my opinion

Posted: 5/25/2012 1:21:47 PM
Right now, the sound of a very angry parent Magpie.......baby is out of the nest , building muscle strength and will be on the ground for about 10 days as it gets to grips with learning to fly....
sooooooo they are protecting it from all 5 neighbourhood cats.
Also, the sound of my downstairs neighbour walking about in high heels on her wooden floors.......
And finally.....the constant ringing on my left ear. Tinnitus. Am getting a hearing aid next week which they say will help by making me more aware of other noises and less aware of the buzzing.
Time will tell.....weee smiley face with headphones on

Badge of Honour - my mobile phone is 18 years old
Posted: 5/23/2012 1:34:34 PM
I have had 2 mobiles in my lifetime......held off getting one as didnt really see the need however when the kids' dad and I split he bought me one as was genuinely worried about me and them being out in the car and maybe having an accident.....
Same kids eventually got embarassed by my 'BRICK' and I updated things....got a wee Sony Ericsson with a great camera and it is still going strong.
I had to send a message from my chum's blackberry the other day.....my fingers are too big and I don't have nails .....nightmare!!!

I have been on and off the Forums for a few years , so welcome to all you 'newbies'.
The best thing to do is just start a few threads, post on threads that interest you and when the fighting starts keep your distance.
I have had a lot of laughs over the years, there are some old faces that I miss but some have returned to cause havoc again ;-)
Enjoy!

Well, I will be 55 in November and was told the other day at work that I don't look my age....not so sure I agree with them, the hair dye is coming out tomorrow !!
I do remember when my ex husband joined the Police at the age of 28 ( that was classed as a late entrant as the limit in the dark ages was 30) I used to laugh when he put his hat on......he looked about 12, bless him!
Our son and daughter have inherited the youth gene.......their passports are very crumpled from hauling them round the pubs and clubs ;-)

Epilepsy and other medical conditions and when to mention them
Posted: 4/27/2012 2:52:04 PM
When my duaghter was aged 18 months she started to have frequent convulsions, some were febrile (temperature related) others came out of the blue, some very brief absences (petit mal) others more lengthy convulsions (grand mal)
Our GP was VERY reluctant to pigeon-hole her and diagnose Epilepsy.....didn't want her stigmatised ....she was put on anti-convulsant meds up to age 5, weaning herself off as her body grew, touch wood the only slight problem she had was when she applied for her provisional driving licence and all she needed to provide was a letter from her GP
I am glad to say , she has had not fits/convulsions since age 3....took a wee while for the docs to get her level of meds correct.
I have made sure she knows that she had these problems as if she goes on to have children, it is a condition which can run in families and would hate her to be unprepared as it can be a frightening experience.

Makeup or bare face?
Posted: 4/25/2012 1:07:14 PM
I swear by tinted moisturiser just to give me a bit of colour.....not as heavy as foundation which is far too claggy for me.
For work, as I wear specs, just a bit of mascara, blusher and lip-gloss
When I am wearing my contact lenses , eye-shadow, eyeliner .

I work in a large open-plan office......when everyone is working away it can be verrrrrrrrrrrrrrry quiet.
one day I went to printer to collect a letter.....sneezed......and , you know where this is going!!
Anyway, a 'bottom squeak ' escaped....I thought if I just stayed put and focused on my prints it would all be just fine....
I looked over to my team........................all falling about in fits of laughter, red in the face, shoulders going up and down, Jayne was actually collapsed over her desk!
It did us all the power of good as we had had a pretty difficult time in the run up to this .
Nothing to fret about in my opinion.

There is a huge difference between being on paid annual leave or paid sick leave and being unemployed.
I interview Housing Benefit claimants every day and have spoken to so many seriously ill/depressed/lonely/suicidal people........that's in amongst a lot of lazy/demotivated and happy- to- take -what -they- can -get -folk
No, as a hard worker I couldn't be in a relationship with someone who didn't work.

Have you ever been to an auction and ended up paying way too much for something you didnt really want ?
I would love to go to one but reckon I would have to sit on my hands for the duration........I did go to a charity auction once and ended up paying a fortune for two wee teddy bears, didn't mind too much as it was a good cause and my kids loved them. Now, not going to bore you all with tales of dried prunes etc, I need some help with how to deal with my elderly cat, Sweep, aged nearly 13
She is happy enough in her own wee world but YELLS a lot......she gets a lot ot attention and also has the company of her sister cat, but sometimes she just walks around the flat yelling for no apparent reason.
