Using a self-serve checkout at a supermarket.
Posted:

My son and I 'experienced' the self serve checkout with a cart full, one item at a time! Took about 30 minutes...No time savings noticed
Caused quite the stir behind us AND the store manager suggested it was not intended for more than a few items......but my son was happy!

divorce & alcoholism

this can be a difficult situation in court if you do not have 'proof' of child endangerment.
The information I was given and questions directed to me:
did you knowingly leave your children in their care suspecting abuse (alcohol/drug)
*cause if you did, then you consented and endangered your own children
Basically, I was told that because I had knowledge, no specific incidents and just a lot of accusations in the courts eyes , joint custody was my best option and to start from today forward
i.e. if I suspect the kids are in danger, call it in (drinking and driving etc)
If I only knew now, what I didn't during all those years of trying to get the other person to get help

I am also financially self sufficient without child support etc.
I work full time and provide that 'stable' home without relying on the ex.
I like it this way!
He is involved in the kids lives and can provide for them (when they are in his home). There are no 'money fights' as we each support our children independently.
My children have made that choice to move to the other parents home at different times and there is no issue.......you have to remember that each parent has positive and negatives AND your children are half of each of you.....they have a right to spend time with each parent without the 'guilt'. It is not a rejection of you
When your self sufficient and living within the means of your own income, child support does not factor into 'losing your home' or 'holding your kids hostage'
I've been the 'child' of divorced parents that used me as the financial pawn in their lives, it wasn't pretty.....chose to show your children a better way!

To selective about who we date?
Posted:

not sure if it is 'too selective' or 'too cautious'
I have more to lose\risk and way more to consider in my 'match' in this stage of my life.
I'm looking for someone in the same 'zone' (work stability, finacial stability, sanity level)
Big difference in my long term relationship considerations vs 'just friends' needs....so too selective? um, no....

hyphenate it!
Tons of kids have both parents last name and whether you like it or not, he is half his dad!
..I never understand this 'don't put him on the birth certificate crap', if you know who the father is (and if you don't....another subject), then honour your child by recognizing he has two halves to his gene pool!

Rent the house to the ex, the boys stay where they are in the same house and school area
You and your daughter rent a smaller place that works for both of you.
Less chaos, less stress....more structure for the children

Single parents, are they abusing the welfare system?
Posted:

How about providing basic coverage while on parental leave of one year, daycare covered for one year while the parent is upgrading their education in fields requiring skilled workers.
Abuse exists as mentioned above.....for those who used it as a temporary assistance during hard times, never want to go back but there are 'generations' using it as a way of life

What led to the downfall...?
Posted:

thinking that when "I" changed, he would change too
I will always remember a light bulb moment listening to the old Dr Laura show when some wife was biotching about her hubby etc. and I was beyond trying and talking
Dr Laura's response "Well what was he like before you married him? Is he the same? Who changed?" and realizing it was 'me' who changed
Sad but true, not his fault, not mine....just not on the same paths anymore with too much distance

thing is...this card thing is YOUR tradition, not your ex's.

Senior refused buying/adopting kitten. your opinion
Posted:

The senior lady who was looking to adopt kittens has every right to do so but she does need to realize the work and time committment that goes into a teeny kitten
This is part of the problem....why on earth would an elderly lady not have knowledge of the work, time etc to raise a young one or animal! Maybe she does have a Plan B if she passes......who are we to judge?
Let's treat our elders with the respect they deserve.
Wonder if Katherine Jackson should give MJ's kids away, cause she's in her 80's and must not have a clue how to raise children.

Dealing with your partners ex....ugh
Posted:
9/4/2009 11:04:50 AM
'household' income.....I think is ridiculous!
Support should be on 'income' of parent multiplied by the number of 'their' children ...not the combined household income. If there is a question regarding income potential and purposefully 'under working'...then address that.
I work to support my own, on my own.....and I'll be damned if I'm giving my families income to someone else's ex!
now re: dealing with the ex
stay out of it, let him deal with it....and if he can't....then ensure your 'space and family' are safe.
Kindly respond once to e mail, that they have incorrect address and all 'child issues' are between the two of them, gently remind if the phone rings that you will not get involved and she should call him , and defer....to him. My favorite line with the kids when they try to relay info etc....'that's adult business and adults need to discuss that....you don't have to"
Then call your g/f's and biotch to those who understand

I prefer not to 'date' and have been out of the pond for a couple years...my focus was to enjoy being single, to stabilize my kids lives and continue education goals of my own.
Things are exactly where I'd like them to be.....as for a potential life partner? if it happens great, I'm not searching for it and if not , that's okay too!

FLO RIDA
"Low"
(feat. T-Pain)
[Intro - T-Pain]
Mmmmmmmm
Let me talk to 'em
Let me talk to 'em
Mmmmmmm
Let me talk to 'em
C'mon!
[Chorus (T-Pain):]
Shawty had them apple bottom jeans (jeans)
Boots with the fur (with the fur)
The whole club was looking at her
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low
Them baggy sweat pants
And the Reebok's with the straps (with the straps)
She turned around and gave that big booty a smack (hey)
She hit the floor (she hit the floor)
Next thing you know
Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low
[Flo-Rida]
I ain't never seen something that'll make me go
This crazy all night spending my doe
Had the million dollar vibe and a body to go
Them birthday cakes they stole the show
So sexual
She was flexible professional
Drinking X&O
Hold up, wait a minute, do I see what I think? Whoa
Did her thing seen shawty get low
Ain't the same when it's up that close
Make it rain I'm making it snow
Work the pole I gotta bank roll
I'm gonna say that I prefer the no clothes
I'm in to that I love women exposed
She threw it back at me I gave her mo
Cash ain't a problem I know where it go
[Chorus (T-Pain)]
[Flo-Rida]
Hey shawty what I gotta do to get you home
My jeans filled with guap and they're ready for showing
Cadillacs laid back for the sexy grown
Patron on the rocks that'll make you moan
One stack (come on), two stacks (come on), three stacks (come on)
Now that's three grand
What you think I'm playing baby girl I'm the man
I'm dealing rubber bands
That's when I threw her legs on my shoulders
I knew it was over
That heny and Cola got me like a soldier
She ready for Rover, I couldn't control her
So lucky on me I was just like clover
Shawty was hot like a toaster
Sorry but I had to fold her
Like a pornography poster
She showed her
[Chorus (T-Pain)]
[Flo-Rida]
Whoa shawty yeah she was worth the money
Little mama took my cash
And I ain't want it back
The way she bent that back
Got all them paper stacks
Tattoo above her crack
I had to handle that
I was zoned in sexy woman
Let me show it make me want it
Two in the morning I'm zoned in
Them rosee bottles foaming
She wouldn't stop
Made it drop
Shawty dipped that pop and lock
Had to break her off that guap
Gal was fine just like my glock

Watching the tide roll away

childhood bipolar disorder parent

Thank you crazy rocker.....the timing was perfect to hear your song! I am a parent of a 7yr old with severe ADHD and in the midst of the battles with schools, peers etc, who think it is about 'more discipline, better parenting, just an excuse for bad behaviour etc', it's not a bad child or bad parenting, but 'others' can't see that. I set him up for success and often 'control' a lot of his life, the situations we are in, the social groups, steering clear of judgemental people and the unknown ....yet it's not enough
The words that impacted me the most....schools calling every other day, the 'help me' , working to pay for medicines and the 'anger' portions.
Him and I talk a lot about the ADHD and how he has to work harder to control than other kids, and I know he tries, when he has that ability. It's the impulse moments of anger that can blow everything 'good' he has accomplished.
I just want to find a way to stop his pain and make it all okay, more research and more education, for others to understand this is biological...not behavioural

and of course, for every story of negative actions, there are 100's of good stories that are not 'published'

3 Police Officers Beat Man
Posted:
1/24/2009 3:11:38 PM
what I want to know is:
were they off duty?
if they were, then to me, they were "three men (civilians) who beat a man" and should be charged accordingly.
If they were on duty, then there is an internal investigation etc etc.
Seems if you've chosen a career as a police officer, your not 'allowed' to live life, be stupid, do stupid things.....take the punishment as a civilian because you are always labelled 'police officer with expectations to be 'on' duty, at all times' (cause if they are expected to be, they better be getting paid at that level)
ie most 'news' stories do not start by labelling their story with "3 nurses involved in scandal/bar brawl/ fill in blank" unless it's related to on the job bad behaviour.
Just my thoughts, but this story to me, is 3 men and one victim...period

Ty Stinkerpot and the so many others that value this special group of people. I will 'try' to put some words that I know will not capture my 23 yrs working in this field with a variety of communication levels, disabilities, intellectual capabilities etc
I've been 'given' far more than I ever put out, I've been taught by people whose voice may not be heard verbally but the 'non verbal' language is very powerful...something I often see mentioned in this on line dating world..
What I've seen and learned:
Strength and determination (from within to survive, to overcome, to challenge a world that values perfection)
Acceptance and Honesty (this group has taught me over and over what is important in life, each time I struggle with complicated life....I look to those who have more complications and am taught again how simple some things really are)
Pure emotion (no alterior motives, from the heart stuff that is as 'real' as it gets)
Integrity and Respect (you earn the respect of this special group, they could care less what your credentials are, it's what 'you' bring to the table)
Re: pain
In today's world we have options. Nobody has to live in pain, but we do have to work hard to recognize that pain and find the right combination of treatments to alleviate it.
This week, a lady I have worked with for 23 yrs passed away, from cancer......not in pain but with a staff team that went above and beyond to ensure her last days were in comfort, in her home.
The church will be FULL of people whose lives she has touched, who valued her, who are grieving for a lady that made an impact in this small world with characteristics and strengths others may not understand ...because she was labelled as 'not perfect'
Edit: O/T for the pig
Was her father right or wrong........wrong, because he had options to pursue
I believe he was in pain, the kind where it burns to an unbearable level.....for his child and from that perspective I can 'accept' why he made his choice to end her life, I also believe his sentence was too severe
