PoF/Imeem Password Issue
Posted:
9/12/2009 1:11:23 PM
Never got the email from pof or from imeem. Double Failure from both parties.
Granted, I did have an imeem account previous to PoF using it. It would be nice if the owner would be nice enough to send out a mass email to all of their users, or at least the users who used this plugin about the possibility of an exploit. Wonder if those users who paid for the site, have any chance of an issue if their account was exploited? Hoping the site is PCI compliant.
* Worried

I seem to spend less money working nights
Ditto that. But I do spend much more time sleeping lately. The only main thing that really annoys me, is I only get paid extra from 12 midnite til 4am, which is more than annoying. I def. won't be working more than my 3 months of this...thats for sure!

I just switched over to the overnite shift @ work. It's my turn! 4pm to 4am, (2 week rotation). Busy for the first 8 hours, then basically dead slow for the final 4 hours. And now I get to sleep in every day, work or no work (used to work 6am to 6pm (which meant I had to get up at 4:45am for work)). And I get paid more to work the overnight shift. I'm happy for the change. No worries!

stimator.com and type in plentyoffish.com
when the IM was first done away with the site was worth about 4.9 million...
This "stimator.com" has no bearing on how much a site is worth. Why do I say this? A site I use for family email (the family's last name) that gets about 10 hits a day if that, that is only used as a mail server, the only http page is the home page, the webmail page is .htaccess and that site claims my family email site is worth $120.
As for IM, the company they worked with is stopping the use of their buggy program (yay for me, that thing was annoying). But per topic, there are plenty of free resources out there (open source) that the owner could incorporate into his website. Or if the claims are true, that he wrote the entire site, including the forums, whipping up an IM resource shouldn't be that large of a task for him.

What happened POF?! [Odd - Lost Revenue/Users]
Posted:
6/9/2009 12:36:25 PM
Odd that they would just leave the site down, rather than bring it back up. Loss in revenue from advertisements, loss in members or possible members due to site availability not being there. Not even a temp page tossed up to show site maintenance? That's kinda shoddy, and not really something I'd expect of a site so large. If you are using a cluster at a multi-homed datacenter, you shouldn't have an issue. There should be no reason why the site could not handle as you claim 1 million people trying to log in at once, unless you have cut corners with the hardware.
Anyone who hosts a website for a business or even as a hobby knows downtime kills you...I just find it very odd that you choose to leave the site down for at least 10+ hours, for who knows what you were thinking.

5/30 Belleville Illinois~Metro St Louis Missouri Meet & DRIVE IN MOVIE Night!
Posted:
5/9/2009 7:32:54 PM
Thats right up near where I grew up in West Belleville. Nice place, but depending on the movies, the line could be HUGE before it even opens. Just a FYI. Also nearby is a Schnucks and Walgreens. When I used to go to Skyview, I would go pickup a pizza or two at Papa Johns or Imos, stop by Schnucks and get some drinks, then head into the Drive in. They allow you to bring in food & drinks. Not suppossed to bring in glass bottles or alcohol tho.
There are no speakers on the poles, all audio is driven via two seperate radio channels that only broadcast in the area of the Drive In, so if you plan on sitting in lawn chairs (in front of your vechiles) then bring a radio or such. Also, all high rise trucks/vans will have to park around the edges/back of the lot (at the orange poles). Just some heads up. (unless things have changed) I haven't been there in 2 years.

Is this the new hospital in Fenton? I haven't heard any opinions about the service there yet.
Yes, St Clares in Fenton, off Bowles and 141.
I'm also thankful I had my own medical insurance I had carried with my old job (that didnt pay for insurance) plus the insurance from my current job. So hopefully that will cover most of my bills from it.

Serious Member / Paid Upgrade Thread - Are we a tad spoiled by POF and a bit ungrateful for its services?

They should really change the site header;
PlentyOfFish.com "100% Free. Put Away Your Credit Card."
Not strictly true now, is it?
Thats about my thought as well. Maybe change it to 95% free ?
If the Admin gets the amount of hit's he claims, then the ads for the other paid sites, should easily cover his costs, and put him into the black very easily. But then again, when most people smarten up, and start using adblockers, and other programs that block basically every ad out there (sites load sooo much faster without ads) then I guess he will hav e to fall back to plan B...charge for a site thats "100% Free".

Some of the rock music today
Posted:
2/3/2009 2:40:29 PM
I admire Nickelback 's ability to put out the same songs , even more than Bryan Adams , and not get slagged in the press , when they put out Leader of Men > ? I thought they were unique , I was wrong ...
It's called "selling out". They go from something they like doing, to what sells. They get a taste of money, and then its top 40 from there. Staind is a good example. Listen to their first album with Mudshovel on it. Now listen to their newer crap. Urgh. Many bands have done this. They go from their hard rock/punk roots, to a softer top 40 sound that sells albums. Another awesome example of selling out, would be Goo Goo Dolls. Their first few albums were very punk/rock. Now its top 40 bliss only. They've gotten so light, it nearly makes me sick.

I'm looking for a good idea where to get one of these folks. I know I need to work on getting healthier and working out more. But I don't need to break the bank in the process. Anyone know of a good place to look or a direction to point me in? I want to get back to playing soccer and maybe some basketball, but need to hit the gym first some.
So, any ideas?
Thx

DON'T FORGET TO VOTE!!!
Posted:

Just voted! =) 35 minutes round trip from out the front door to back in.
Only two complaints. The electronic ballot stand is waaaaay short for us tall folks. My back slightly hurts, but its worth a bit of pain to vote. Both the paper ballot and touchscreen were same height. Other complaint, were all the idiots out in the parking lot attempting a last minute sway to their party. But thankfully, I live in the land of the free speech...I gave them a few choice words, & a few hand gestures to prove my point of free speech, and not to bug me as I made my way up to vote.

Why don't tall men choose to date tall women?
Posted:
9/20/2008 1:29:43 PM
I'm 4'11 and I prefer tall men. My friends tease me and say that I'd meet more men if I didn't have this height hang-up (I like men to be at least 6'). But honestly, I have luck meeting tall men....I think tall men are just drawn to shorter women - makes them feel like they can protect us!
A couple of my friends claim that a tall guy and a short gal make for a really "cute" couple.
I'm 6 foot 6 inches tall, I've dated both short & tall.

Pets Going Bonkers Lately?
Posted:
9/10/2008 3:17:45 PM
He gets more play time now, than he did before. I get home from work around 2.30 am and am still wound up from work. He gets a ton of play time. Not sure if this one bedroom apt is big enough for another kitty...I have been debating that for last few months tho...
Hmm, tin foil...thats cheap, but dollars to donuts I will come up to tin foil confetti all over my place...
New job isnt as bad as I thought it would be, its coming together, still quite a bit to learn, but all is good. And seeing a paycheck with 8 hours of OT on it isn't half bad either.

Pets Going Bonkers Lately?
Posted:
9/9/2008 9:46:35 AM
Anyone else's pet(s) going just totally bonkers lately? My cat, I love him, but sheesh, he really isn't the sharpest tool in the shed lately. He woke me up this morning at around 8am, attempting to catch a fly (which was stuck behind the blinds in my window in my room) by running from the living room, to my bedroom, then just throwing himself at the window, half tearing up my blinds in the process, and basically bouncing off the window onto the floor. He did this about four times, before I managed to get up, get vertical and smack the fly myself.
I've noticed for about the past 2-3 week's it seems like hsi intelligence is either slacking, or something is up (maybe change in weather) ? I did get a new job in the past few weeks, and am working off hours (2pm to 2am) on rotating hours. I do play with him both before work and after work.
Is this normal thing for cats to do? Just go bonkers for a bit? I've had FireBall for almost 9 months now. And the above isn't the only wacky thing he does lately.

Sleep?
Posted:
8/24/2008 6:13:31 PM
I just picked up a new job, that will give me 4am to 4 pm days (12 hour shifts) I'm usually one that goes to bed late (1-2 am). I'm going to have to figure out how to do this goto bed early, and be tired enough to sleep type deal. Usually, reading something like Anne Rice (usually fairly boring) will put me out.
At least the days will rotate, I won't work more than 3 days in a row. Just have to figure out how to go to bed early some nites, & stay up late other nights, heheheh. At least I will get 8 hours of OT every other week.

Lately my little guy (just turned 1 year old earlier this month) has not been able to settle down. He's definately earning his name (Fireball). That and he has a new 'fun' thing that he likes to do. He will knock over any trashcan he can (kitchen one is too big for him, thankfully!). Bathroom, bedroom, & my living room one. Urgh! Was entertaining the thought of getting him a playmate (or as of late, a partner in crime (someone he can blame for when something happens)). Tho I'm not sure I can handle two little troublemakers.

I know I'm gonna be at the Way Out Club friday night, for the cd release party for Panic Attack (local stl rock band) and then going with a buddy from Indy to the Pageant sat nite to see Explosions in the Sky (no clue what they sound like, but he's buyin the ticket, so I guess I will find out!).
Hailing from the sultry metropolitan landscape of Austin, TX, Explosions In The Sky are some of the most sincere folks you will ever meet. Aside from being nice guys, they play some of the most passionate, powerful instrumental music you will ever hear. Equal parts romance and tragedy, their beautiful melodies have the tendency to ignite into head-spinning walls of noise. Easily one of the most intense live bands ever, their sound proves to be every bit as triumphant as their name implies.
Actually sounds kinda good. =)

Ugh, do cities/counties in this state even know what a snow plow is, much less how to use one? In IL where I'm from, our streets were never near this bad. I think I've been spoiled by the snow plow fairy or something. Back to the drive. Tesson Ferry was a total nitemare. Really, is it that hard to run a plow down the streets?

Stuck at work in South County. I live 3 miles away, but currently the roads around here (Union/Lindberg/Tesson Ferry) haven't been plowed. So I'm stuck. My co-worker stayed home. He's the smart one today I think.
And to think I stayed up late (5am) last night, thinking I wouldn't be in to work today. urgh. Caffene is my friend currently.

I had signed up for the partay, but it appears I will no longer be able to make it. Visiting a friend from HS in Arkansas (for the weekend), & I have a date down there too! (not my friend from HS)
w00t!
