Pof Gatherings.......Expectations! What are yours?
Posted:

I have only been to 4 POF events and all have been at LeSkratch in Oshawa. The hosts did an awesome job at all 4 of these events. Very well organized and you're made to feel welcome.
I've met a number of great people and have made some close friends there. As for expectations, I hope to meet new people and get out of the house for a few hours...nothing more, nothing less. Have to admit though, it's fun standing back and watching the players in action. And some of the pickup lines I've heard....

Let her win? Yes or no?

I enjoy a good game of pool, but if I find out they are letting me win, I lose interest in the game. what's the point in playing if you know the outcome ahead of time?
I'd rather lose honestly than win because they "let" me.

Would you date a cop?
Posted:

I was married to a cop. Thought I loved him, turned out it was the cuffs I loved...so I divorced him and bought my own
Seriously though, it all depends on the person. If I truly liked the person, it doesnt matter what his job is.

Ladies, is this true?!
Posted:

I admit I'm guilty of some of those but not all and in recent years, my flirting skills are seriously lacking. However, if you want to show interest in someone from across the room, I've found that locking eyes with them usually works. A smile and a quick raise of the eyebrow, more often than not, will have them coming over to at least say hi.
Mind you, these days, I'm usually the one who's totally oblivious if someone is hitting on me. Do you have one of those lists for men??

Seeing the same faces?
Posted:
3/10/2007 9:41:57 AM
"Well, if she's been on these websites for years, turning down decent guys, what good is a brand new website going to do her?
How do you know she's been messaged by "decent guys" all these years??
I've been on these sites for a number of years as well. Yes I'm picky because as someone above stated, I am also comfortable being single and havent found the person that will complement my life instead of complicating it. I'm not going to date just any guy just for the sake of getting out of the house.
Many of the emails I get are from 20 yr olds wanting to fulfill a fantasy of being with an older woman (rolls eyes) or guys that claim to be looking for long term but msg you telling you they are horny. It's not what I'm looking.
There are some decent guys on these sites and unfortunately many do get overlooked. I've met a few wonderful guys that have become great friends but the chemistry wasnt there for us to warrant taking it to another level.

A Few Extra Pounds
Posted:
3/10/2007 7:38:06 AM
In my experience, it doesnt matter what you state, somebody will have something negative to say about it.
I am always honest about my weight as I know it's an issue for some guys, so why waste anyone's time. In the past I have stated my height and weight on my profile and I kept getting told I shouldnt be down on myself (I'm not, just stating a fact)
I listed myself as a BBW and was told I'm not "that" big...so I changed it to a "few extra pounds".
At the end of the day, it all boils down to preferences. Some will accept you as you are, others wont. Just be honest about it and be happy with who you are.

wow what a bash! Even better than New Year's and I didnt think that was possible.
Spanky, RAH and Intrepid, it was nice to finally meet you and put a real face to a name. Once again, you guys did an awesome job. Very well organized, nobody can help but have a great time at these events.
I met so many great people last night, I cant remember half the names. Pete, Marlene, Rachel, Chris, Cecil, Sam - thanks for a great night. It was really nice meeting you and I hope you keep in touch. That goes for anyone else I met last night.
Only problem with these events is you meet so many nice people, sometimes you remember real names, not their nicks on here so feel free to msg me and say hi.
Once again, major kudos to the hosts and staff of LeSkratch. I'm looking forward to the next event!

On Affection
Posted:

There's nothing wrong with wanting to hold hands. Some people arent comfortable with Public displays of affection. It depends on how important that is to you.
For me, it's very important. I'm not saying you have to be all over each other in public, but holding hands, or stopping to give each other a hug or a kiss, shows you are proud to be with that person.

After watching my puppy trying in vain to keep his balance in the backyard this morning while trying to do his business, I decided to stay home from work.
I have no problem driving in this weather. It's the other morons on the road I dont trust. And since I drive a little car, it would be mincemeat if I was to get hit because some idiot thought ABS meant the car will automatically stop for you.
After checking my work email though and seeing 68 new emails, I'm kinda rethinking whether staying home was worth it *groan*

There's a saying "If you're honest, you dont need a good memory". Same applies here. If you try to be something you're not, you always have to remember what you did or did not say/do.
Be yourself. If they dont like you for who you are, they're not worth your time.

MIlitary...whats you take on it...
Posted:

I am the only civilian in my family. My Mother, sister, brother in law, niece and niece's fiancee are all either in the military or work as civilians for the military.
It wasnt the life I wanted for myself, but I respect them very much for choosing to do what they do and while I may not agree with our Government's decision to be in the Mideast, I do support our troops
I grew up in Petawawa and it hits home whenever I hear of another soldier wounded or killed. The troops that are over there now, are people I went to school with, their fathers, and in some cases, even some of their children. Keep in mind, many of these soldiers fighting overseas are only 18 or 19 years old. Think back to when you were 18, would you have done it??
I went 'home' for thanksgiving, and everywhere I looked, the businesses had signs saying "we support our troops" or "our condolences are with you". It was hard seeing an entire town in mourning. All the flags were flying at half mast. Unfortunately, that same weekend, the town lost another one of its own.
As for the somalia situation, Dont blame the entire military for a few bad seeds. You find those in every profession. Look at the police who have been charged with crimes, doctors that fondle patients, postal workers that shoot up mcdonalds and school teachers or coaches that abuse children. It doesnt not mean they are all like that.

Just out of curiosity, is there a cutoff for the amount of people that sign up? I heard someone say the main floor holds 800 people. We're around 350+ already....considering that most people will bring at least 1 person with them - usually more...that already puts us at 700+

I usually try humour to get them out of their shells. "Sooo...you're a man of few words eh" That usually gets them to loosen up and apologize for their behaviour. Occassionally they just grunt a reply, in which case I say well...guess I'm boring you so I'll let you off the hook, then get up and leave. No point in sticking around just to pull teeth.

There are many guys who have "ask" or "later" in their about me sections as well. When someone msgs me, I always read their profile first to get some ideas for conversation starters. I have responded a few times when they have nothing in their profiles but have found the conversation usually ends up lagging within a few minutes.
I dont believe my profile is negative although some may view it that way. I just tried to be honest and upfront about who I am.

I've learned that:
1) 80% of men online are "big" - the rest brag about their tongues
2) If you state you're overweight, people think you're down on yourself, if you state you're into bodybuilding, people think you're conceited
3) 19-20 yr olds "love older mature women" (aka "want to fulfill fantasy of being with an older woman")
4) Apparently I have about 2,000+ men who love and want to marry me in Nigeria
5) Most of those men have rich uncles who left them Millions of $$s that the government is trying to take
6) I thought I was pretty streetwise before the internet but wow was I naive - you want to do WHAT with WHAT?!?!?!? there's glue involved??!
7) very few people can handle honesty
8) Even when meeting as friends, the other person will judge whether you are their 'type' sexually
8) if you have a sense of humour, you can get through anything, even bad dates
9) Not every person you chat with will be your type, nor will you be theirs. Remember, plenty of fishies out there
10) most important: I have learned that I do not need a man to make my life complete, but I want a man to share that life with. I am ok with being alone and that it's not a reflection of whether I am a good person or not.

Anyone Ever Been To One of Those BBW Parties?
Posted:
6/17/2006 3:46:28 PM
I went to one of the BBW parties a couple years ago with a friend and doubt I will go to another. Although we knew several people from online, they would not speak to us in person and it was very clickish - and yes, as some mentioned before - alot of cattiness.
My friend is what you call a SSBBW and although I am considered a BBW by clothing sizes, I am still at the lower end of the BBW scale (no pun intended). Many felt I had no right to be there - so now I'm too big for the "hot, sexy skinny chick" category and too skinny for the BBW parties...go figure....guess I'll just be happy being "me".
