As for vacuums, if you have shedding pets, the absolute BEST vacuum is the Dyson Animal, it's pretty pricey, but it's well worth the investment.

I've tried one of those Dysons - they work REALLY well, but too expensive for the likes of me. This Bissell seems to work nearly as well, though...

Please let me know how it works. I haven't found a vacuum yet that can tackle the "Tundra" hair that accumulates around our place, especially his couch.

The new vacuum works very well, especially after my 12 year old son put it together for me (what a thoughtful kid). It has all the usual attachments, including a little powerhead for the small places. It's a Bissell Powergroom Pet vacuum, and I got it for $130.00 at WalMart.

I too leave certain things till they pile up and I get overwhelmed. I really need to work on that.

You know that point you get to when you just CAN'T STAND IT anymore? I call that reaching "critical mass", and I clean frantically until I'm exhausted. Whew! No matter how many times I vow to keep up on the dishes, etc., it gets away on me until the next "critical mass".

Smoking, who to blame!
Posted: 11/22/2009 4:10:40 AM
The answer to this question depends upon the age of the smoker.

Here in Alberta, at age 18 a young person can legally smoke, drink, vote, rent dirty movies, join the Armed Forces, and go to big boy/girl prison. This is primarily because kids under the age of majority are young, stupid, and considered not competent to sign contracts, or do any of the above.

Once a person reaches the age of majority, he takes on the rights, privileges, and RESPONSIBILITIES of being an adult. That includes making decisions about personal addictions. The nanny state can't prevent stupidity, accidents, or addiction.

I started smoking at age 16, and quit when I was 38. It was MY addiction, and my problem to quit. Anybody can quit if they really want to.

My dog cleans my cat litter for me.... seriously. He seems to like the chunks.. *barf*

I'm with you there - I had to turn the cat box to face the wall to keep the dog from sampling his "ethnic" food. *Gags*

I live vacuuming. I'm a freak, I know, but I like it.

I just bought a new vaccuum to take care of all the animal hair in my apartment...that is, when I get the time to assemble it. The vaccuum, not the animal hair, that is.

I swear I'd rather scrub the toilet, empty the cat box, and clean out science experiments out of the fridge than do dishes. They seem to multiply while I sleep.

At least when the cats barf, the dog cleans it up....yucky, but better than me.

Your pic is great, and you're very pretty. I'd change from "friends" to "dating", and change your leading blurb to something a little less desperate-sounding, like "WooHoo, skiing season is here!". I'll mention here that I don't think that you are desperate lol, the the blurb might give some that impression, though . Maybe expound a bit about fun hobbies you have, too. Humour seems to get a good response on here, too.

Good luck!

how long should a first meeting last and how do you get out of one without being rude?

I usually set a time limit when arranging a date - I'll say "I can only hang out for about an hour because I have to blah blah". I've been tempted a few times to just blurt out "This isn't going to work" before, but have never had the guts. Especially with the guy who looked like Golum from LOTR. Blech!

OMG TnC you don't look old enough to remember the beacon let alone to have worked there.

Well, thank you very much! I worked there I think in '89 or '90 - what a sh1t show that place was. I'll tell you one day about finding the dead body...they should've filmed an episode of the X-Files there.

I wouldn't want to live in one of those places they're building on the site of the old General, that's for sure. I bet there's some sightings there.

Three of the creepiest places I've been in Alberta have been torn down, but I'll relate them.

In the old General Hospital there were creepy tunnels in the sub-basement that connected all the buildings (the place must've been laid out by a kitten with diarrhea). I discovered these tunnels quite by accident while looking for a shortcut when delivering stuff. Shuffles and whispers, and no one around. Yikes, what a creepy place! I was glad when they blew it up...

The other place was the old Lethbridge Prison. Back in the day, they executed by hanging, and they did it right inside the building. The cells were horrible, and there was a atmosphere of malice in the whole place. I kept seeing movement out of the corner of my eye...

Back in the eighties I worked at the Beacon (the North Centre Inn). The place had secret passageways all through the hotel, and sometimes the cameras would catch a sort of blurry image. There was no way to rewind, though, because they didn't tape them. I did find a dead body in one of the rooms one night though, poor fella.

Last night I showed up at work, and noticed a guy asleep in an Acura SUV parked in front of the store. No big deal, maybe he was driving, got tired, and did the right thing by pulling over and having a snooze, right?

Wrong. Upon closer examination, this fella wasn't wearing any pants. I was all for waking this guy up by rocking the SUV, and filming the results for You-Tube, but my more conservative co-worker insisted we call the cops.

Shortly thereafter, a female cop shows up and informs us that not only was he not wearing pants, but no underwear either, and had apparently been...ahem...ENJOYING himself in there. Charming. And surprise, surprise...he was as drunk as a rig worker in a small town.

Keep it real out there, people.

Too poor to date?
Posted: 10/19/2009 8:16:39 AM

Ok, I am living paycheck to paycheck right now due to low commisions. I sometimes feel that I am to poor to take a woman out in the way that I would like to. So how do the ladies out there feel about that. I am willing to cook a nice meal and have a movie at my place. And no that is not code for get naked and spend the night with me. So how would you ladies out there feel about that?

If you make pinto beans and BBQ, I'll whip up some cornbread and pumpkin cheesecake, and I'll be over there tonight! That being said, I'm probably one of the least materialistic people you'll probably ever meet...and there's not all that many of us in the big scope of things.

i spend 5 bucks a month on a can of shaving cream and a bag of double bladed razors and a 2 pack of soap

I was laughing pretty hard when I got to this part of Trubble's post...

But then I read OMG!WTF!'s response:

Well, there it is, edmcherub. Just shave your head and grow a creepy goatee and you'll get all the dates you need.

...and now I'm mopping up coffee from my monitor.

Too poor to date?
Posted: 10/18/2009 8:33:31 AM

Being a girl is very expensive I blow 45 a month on nails, 120 for highlights ( and that is cheap...some place charge upwards of 300) and if I dont colour...(I hate to admit this.. I am going gray.....getting old) and yes I agree clothes doent have to bo special,,but is really is a matter of confidence... new earrings and shoes ( I love stilletto's) are expensive honey and .....you do like the look of female in nice stilleto's dont you?

Wow. What you spend on nails and hair a month is half what I spend on food for my son and I. I do highlight my hair (a GF has a home salon) but my hair is quite long and doesn't require monthly care. I do a mani/pedi at home a couple of times a month. I make earrings myself (and they're fabulous!), and a pair of nice shoes often lasts me for several years.

No offense is meant - I mean, if I had the dough I'd probably go to the spa, too. But I certainly don't think you're too broke to date, because I don't think I am.

Is it my imagination or do her lips appear to be somewhat less prominent since the arrival of the children?!

No, that would be her belly lol ha ha, yeah, I know, bad joke.

Really? I guess it could be. It wouldn't be collagen then or her lips would be going up and down, up and down....like some of those celebs, lol. If it was plastic surger, it's a really good job! Some have had some pretty botched up ones. (like Meg Ryan. Oh yeah, another one that used to be really cute)

I think Lisa Rinna (that one that was on the old Melrose for a while) takes the prize for worst lip job. How does it all work, Daisy? Do they get regular appointments, like for an oil change for the car??!! Yuck. The only other surgery that looks just as bad is a boob job - looks like a big ol' round balloon in there...ah, the perils of working at an adult store.

I think AE is the hottest on here, closely followed by Lime.

Botox Lips..totally

I don't believe Botox is the stuff for the lips - collagen is the culprit there. Botox is actually botulism they inject into your wrinkles to paralyze the muscles underneath. Nice, eh?

At any rate, much as I like and admire Jolie, I have seen a high school picture of her (it was on a poster with a bunch of movie stars' old photos), and her lips where no plumper than mine.

Is it possibly a bogus pic? Sure, I guess, but the shape of the face, nose, eyes and chin were dead on to my eye. 'Spose I could search it online if I really cared...but at this time in the am, I'm not so curious.

To add to my list, I've always thought Sam Elliot was hot. I'm thinking the movie Road House, or Mask.

I think Vivien Leigh was the hottest woman ever.

Tomorrow I might make a southern delite. Pinto beans and corn bread. MMMM. I haven't had cornbread in forever.

Yummm, I made cornbread just a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't made pinto beans in YEARS! Fabulous idea...

Thing with cooking meals is that once you get all the spices, extras and devices to cook, it actually becomes really cheap to eat. It's getting all that and experimenting that takes a long time and a lot of money.

This is certainly true - I moved in February and haven't managed to store up all the stuff I need, due to the loss of my old friend the trusty deep freeze. And next time I hit the Superstore, I have to remember to pick up pinto beans, frozen corn, ground turkey, yam, mushrooms, and stewed tomatoes - time to make chili! I already have the rest of the ingredients.

Homemade scalloped potatoes with three kinds of cheese, carrots with dill and butter, and baked ribs with Barb's very own special BBQ sauce. I always have food in the house, and it's easier when you cook from scratch.

I did watch the doctors on TV and they said certain things are ok to pick up but of course Id never let them do it in a hospital or off a dog poo

Lol, dog pooh is SO overrated ha ha!

Despite my experiences with vaccinations (I use my smallpox scar for ID lol), I still had my son immunized. No flu shots, though.

I think as a society we are becoming to diligent with getting rid of germs. To many people loading up on hand sanitizers, over usage of anti biotics and the like

I agree heartily with this. I firmly believe the over-sterilization of homes, and the adding of antibiotics and preservatives to pre-made foods is causing the increase in kids with allergies and asthma. I've always cooked mainly from scratch, and my son and I haven't been sick for years.

@ Littletykes - I was immunized for whooping cough as a child, and ended up catching it anyway in 1974. I was one sick kid...had it for four months, coughing fits 'til I vomited...yuck. Ended up looking like one of those poor kids in Bangladesh. At least I'm REALLY immune, now, for whooping cough, measles, mumps, and chicken pox. Had 'em all.

I don't understand why the powers that be immunize for minor illnesses like chicken pox now. In order to build up a good immune system, don't kids need to be catching cold, and being exposed to germs? That way they'll be able to fight back against things like this swine flu...right?

A high school diploma means bupkis these days.

The majority of my co-workers are about 20 years younger than me. None of them can add, subtract, or figure out 5% without a calculator, and watch with fascination when I use a pencil and paper to do sums.

One co-worker, a lovely young lady, was working on a call-back list of customers. When I checked the list later, I saw this scrawled in a childish hand in the margin : ancer michin. It took me a few minutes to realize she meant "answering machine". She has a high school diploma, is functionally illiterate, and has great self-esteem.

If a child cannot learn simple arithmetic, or to read and write, they should not be given a high school diploma. Perhaps they can excel at music, art, or anything else, but a high school diploma is for scholastic ability. No one should be ridiculed or treated badly, but if the diploma cannot be earned fairly, then why give it out at all?

Drunk Driving 19 times....
Posted: 9/14/2009 9:35:23 AM

it's about a ridiculous statement claiming folks who have what sometimes is little more than the same that happens..... on a bad date even, being lauded as having experienced something absolutely life ending,

I can only speak for myself, but you're really wrong on this point. As a survivor of both childhood molestation and date rape, I can tell you with certainty these events have devastated a large portion of my life. After years of counselling and medication, I live a stable life, but have experienced emotional, spiritual, financial, and physical hardship unimaginable to one who hasn't walked in my moccasins.

This happens to ALL survivors of rape and molestation to some degree. Only a very small percentage of motor vehicle accidents are caused by drunks, and only a smaller percentage of these receive severe injury. Your comparison is wrong.

Your "pooh-poohing" of the consequences of rape and childhood molestation is appalling, and I'm very surprised, as I've always enjoyed reading your posts, and have often found wisdom and humour in them. Tch, tch...

Ok so life without parole for 10 years, does that 1/3 rule apply? That means he will be out in 3 years.

No, the 1/3 doesn't apply here - he is only ELIGIBLE for parole in ten years - it doesn't mean he'll get parole when he applies. IF he got sentenced to ten years flat, no life, he would technically be eligible on his 1/6 (about 20 months), but would be very unlikely to get anything until his 1/2 was up. But the point is moot...this dude will be in for at least a sawbuck.

I'm six feet tall in my bare feet, and have mostly dated men shorter than myself. Not having spent a great deal of time in heels, I am quite clumsy in them. Being this tall also means I don't show up in most guys' searches on this site.

In past experiences, I've found many men (NOT all) are merely interested in having a tall woman as a teddy bear - fun to sleep with, but not so great to show off to their friends.

Robbed by Another Fish from this Pond!
Posted: 8/11/2009 8:37:04 AM

Ok - ladies and gentlemen - this is a first thread post for me, and oh how I wish it was for something positive. Unfortunately, it is not.

I met up with an individual from this site who felt quite comfortable stealing every bit of cash I had in my purse. Furthermore, he then depleated my laundry funds of multiple quarters and loonies to zero before leaving my home.

Do I need to run the plates of every man I meet from here on in to see if his word is worth anything? Or is the quality and moral values on this site going downhill so fast I should leave while I still have my bankcard in my possession?

Is this happening to other women out there? Hello?

I've read all four pages of this thread, and many point out it's ill-advised to meet for the first time at one's home. While I must agree with this advice, I fail to see ANYWHERE in her OP that this was the first meeting.

As far as the OP's supposed

.

If she IS indeed a teacher, I'm very grateful she's plying her trade in another province.

is it wrong....to get out of the situation....or should you stay...
Posted: 7/26/2009 7:48:28 AM

Yes, it appears that the true problem was his unwillingness to take care of his overall health. A partner unwilling to look after themselves says alot about their commitment to any aspect of their lives and relationships. The sexual aspect only a symptom of a much bigger problem..the real deal breaker.

This is so true, KC, and, interestingly enough, I heard from the fella in question just a couple of days ago (we stayed friends). He was in the hospital for the past week for...you guessed it, wacked-out blood sugar. He's well on his way to being a "brittle" diabetic now, thanks to his laziness. I hope he gets that part of his life together, so his new gf can have him around for a while longer. And so he can fix my car the next time it breaks down lol!

To the UnDaisy:

You've read between the lines correctly, Daisy. He was upfront about his erectile problem, and I was willing to be more creative to have an active sex life. With the adult toys on today's market, even complete dysfunction is not an impediment to sexual fulfillment. I just couldn't deal with his other, more serious, issues, of which the impotence was merely a side effect.

Last year I was in that situation.

The fella not only took heart medication, but didn't manage his diabetes properly. He was completely unable to achieve an erection. I didn't see this as a huge problem, since sex can take many forms, and I figured medication and better adherence to an insulin regimen would resolve the issue. None of these things happened.

He refused to test his blood sugar, and ate sweets constantly, producing a sickeningly rotten/sweet odor to his body. He was also addicted to porn (thousands of magazines and dozens of movies, plus online activities, and satellite movies).

The odor turned me right off, and his refusal to make any effort toward health became a stumbling block. The biggest issue was his habit of bullsh1tting, incidentally.

I guess my answer is, it depends if the dysfunction is part of a pattern of behavior that is self-destructive.

I don't know an easy way to tell someone you're not interested, other than blurt it out without details. The reason you're not interested doesn't have to be brought into the discussion.

Good luck, friend.

Inter-racial dating

KG, you sound just as beautiful on the inside as you are on the outside!

Up here in western Canada, there are rainbows of colour as well, and I've never heard a rude comment about inter-racial dating. There are racists, of course (we'll never stamp out that garbage completely), but they usually keep that kind of crap to themselves since the rest of us are quite vocal about racism.

I noticed all the other posters on this thread are American - what a shame to have horrible racists creating such a blight in your country. Hopefully as time goes on, these racist Neanderthals will die off in both our countries!

I myself have dated black, white, asian, native and jewish fellows, but am hoping for some hot chicanos to drift north so I can be completely well-rounded.

Maybe his wife walked in the restaurant .

How embarrassing for you - I would've felt like crawling under the table.

Thanks for sharing your story, though - that's even better than this one guy I met that looked just like Gollum from Lord of the Rings.
