Well put. I myself is a single mother who toiled over feeling of guilt over my son not having a father , or shall I say daddy around. The whole idea here is that the child have a postive male influence in their lives. Doesnt have to be a father figure. Could be an uncle, grandfather, Big Brother (the agency) teacher etc. I even requested that my son have a few male teachers in school and the school met with my requests. I also have always had an open communication with my youngins. First and foremost, you have to remember that although children, they are ultimatley fellow humans. Although they dont know all my skeletons and make it a point to let them know of some of my little mistakes or troubles in life. That way, they learn that everyone is the same. The key in this type of communication with you kids is to teach them of optimism and survival. Teach them that there is nothing they cannot overcome when in the right state of mind. I also have taught them that this are the way they are because it is meant to be for one reason or another. Sometimes, parents can feed the problem by paying too much attention to a query from a child. Most times a simple answer will sufice. You've seen it in the movies, I think it was Beethoven. The kid asked the dad about sex, dad fumbles and stumbles through for a intelligent answer. In total agony as mom walks in and gives the plainest answer, something like , Where do babies come from and the answer was "God" or "the hospital" . The little girl looks up at mom with wide eyes and says "Cool" and scurries away to play. Single moms and dads, regularly beat themselves up with doubts that they dont have to stress over so mucg. All you can do is be the best role model they can for their kids and dont be afraid to show you are human. Wow, verbal diahhrea. Sorry
