live with your decision today
almost sounds like a trite cliche
make wise decisions or else you will pay
in a variety of ways
for it is not long until summer is here
by far my favourite time of year
parties, friends, and plenty of beer
amongst other spirited fun

Angel Eyes (The Jeff Healey Band)...
Posted:
6/3/2009 12:21:12 AM
Girl, you're looking fine tonight
And every guy has got you in his sight
What you're doing with a clown like me
Is surely one of life's little mysteries
CHORUS
So tonight I'll ask
The stars above
"How did I ever win your love?"
What did I do,
What did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way
Well I'm the guy never learned to dance
Never even got one second glance
Across the crowded room was close enough
I could look but I could never touch
CHORUS
So tonight I'll ask
The stars above
"How did I ever win your love?"
What did I do,
What did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way
Don't anyone wake me
If it's just a dream
Cause she's the best thing
Ever happened to me
All you fellows
You can look all you like
But this girl, you see, she leaving here
With me tonight
SOLO
Um, there's just one more thing I need to know
If this is love, why does it scare me so?
It must be something only you can see
Cause girl I feel it when you look at me
CHORUS
So tonight I'll ask
The stars above
"How did I ever win your love?"
What did I do,
What did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way
So tonight I'll ask
The stars above
"How did I ever win your love?"
What did I do,
What did I say
To turn your angel eyes my way

for you thought i was dinner, but i waxed diffuse
never knew you were a cannibal, to me this is news
at least I have partaken of plenty of booze
makes you easier to look at
the question is how will I get away
the effect of the booze makes my limbs slow as clay
this is not how I expected to spend my day
particularly on a Tuesday

Hearing their sweet voices, floating for eternity
Escaping the mundaness of modernity
Precious moments of serenity
In the arms of my lover soon
My angel sent from above
The one I always think of
I haven't had no real good love
Since that gal of mine's been gone
[Hat tip to Albert King on the final two verses]

we saw the illumination of everything
where previously we had seen nothing
then we realized the possibilities of anything
when we made each others acquaintance
but now no mere earthly things can mar
what we have as we prepare to soar far
above the earth and past the stars
in our embracing of one another
(I know many do not follow the rules but I pride myself on doing so; ergo my apology in the previous stanza poem posted)

glistening like diamond enlightening my cries
from the depths of the low to the peak of the highs
heart moving me forward to fasten my ties
to you my beloved
from winter's death to spring's life renew
I consider myself one of the lucky few
to feel again a love so deep and know you feel it too
our hearts beat as one
(Whoops I messed up and used the other person's first line...sorry bout that am a bit rusty with this!)

we dont gain strength from blocking
nor solidity of grip by chalking
nor rhythm by popping or locking
though I suppose it could not hurt
whatever you do this new years night
make sure you celebrate right
be safe, have fun, and don't fight

giving you the finger or thumb
the way I play guitar to make it strum
who needs a pick when flesh on strings makes a much better hum
at least to these ears
electric or acoustic though I must admit
for lack of practice on the electric my lead form has taken quite a hit
still decent at chords on the acoustic as I doodle here and there a bit
regaining calluses is a bi#ch

some say I'm way too nerdy
my poems are way too wordy
my eyes can be quite flirty
which is not a bad thing
cannot think of a second verse
normally verbose writing becomes more terse
I am sure there are things which could be worse
like dying of cancer

Uncle John's Band (The Grateful Dead)

From the
Workingman's Dead
album of 1970. Lyrics by Robert Hunter, Music by Jerry Garcia...
Well, the first days are the hardest days,
Don't you worry anymore
Cause when life looks like Easy Street
There is danger at your door
Think this through with me
Let me know your mind
Wo-oah, what I want to know
Is are you kind?
It's a Buck Dancer's Choice, my friend,
Better take my advice
You know all the rules by now
And the fire from the ice
Will you come with me?
Won't you come with me?
Wo-oah, what I want to know,
Will you come with me?
Goddamn, well I declare
Have you seen the like?
Their walls are built of cannonballs,
Their motto is Don't Tread on Me
Come hear Uncle John's Band
By the riverside
Come with me or go alone
He's come to take his children home
[Acoustic guitar solo]
It's the same story the crow told me
It's the only one he know -
Like the morning sun you come
And like the wind you go
Ain't no time to hate,
Barely time to wait
Wo-oah, what I want to know,
Where does the time go?
I live in a silver mine
And I call it Beggar's Tomb
I got me a violin
And I beg you call the tune
Anybody's choice
I can hear your voice
Wo-oah what I want to know,
How does the song go?
Come hear Uncle John's Band
By the riverside
Got some things to talk about
Here beside the rising tide
Come hear Uncle John's Band
Playing to the tide
Come on along or go alone
He's come to take his children home
[Musical interlude]
Wo-oah what I want to know,
How does the song go?
Come hear Uncle John's Band
By the riverside
Got some things to talk about
Here beside the rising tide
Come hear Uncle John's Band
Playing to the tide
Come on along or go alone
He's come to take his children home

While My Guitar Gently Weeps (The Beatles)
Posted:
12/13/2008 10:45:57 PM
Written by George Harrison with Eric Clapton on lead guitar...
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
[Lead guitar]
I look at the floor and I see it need sweeping
Still my guitar gently weeps
[Lead guitar]
I don't know why nobody told you
how to unfold you love
I don't know how someone controlled you
they bought and sold you
I look at the world and I notice it's turning
While my guitar gently weeps
[Lead guitar]
With every mistake we must surely be learning
Still my guitar gently weeps
[Guitar solo]
I don't know how you were diverted
you were perverted too
I don't know how you were inverted
no one alerted you
I look at you all see the love there that's sleeping
While my guitar gently weeps
[Lead guitar]
I look at you all
Still my guitar gently weeps
[Guitar outro solo for the duration of the song]
Oh, oh, oh
oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
oh oh, oh oh, oh oh
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah yeah yeah yeah

Star Wars The Saga Begins (Weird Al Yankovic)
Posted:

...sung to the tune of Don Mclean's 1972 hit
American Pie
. Without further ado...
A long long time ago
In a galaxy far away
Naboo was under an attack
And I thought me and Qui Gon Jin
Could talk the federation into maybe cutting them a little Slack
But their response, it didn't thrill us
They locked the doors and tried to kill us
We escaped from that gas
And met Jar Jar in Bosnas
We took a bongo from the scene
And went to Theed to see the Queen
We all wound up on Tatooine
That's where we found this boy
Oh my, my this here Annakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mummy goodbye
Saying "Soon, I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi."
Did you know this junkyard slave
Isn't even old enough to shave?
But he can use the force they say
Ah, do you see him hitting on the Queen?
Though he's just nine
And she's fourteen
Yeah, he's probably going to marry her some day
Well I know he built C3PO
And I've heard how fast his pod can go
And we were broke, it's true
So we made a wager or two
He was a pre-pubescent flying ace
And the minute Jabba started off that race
Well, I knew who would win first place
Oh yes, it was our boy
We started singing:
My, my this here Annakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mummy goodbye
Saying "Soon, I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi."
Now we finally got to Coruscant
The Jedi council we knew would want
To see how good the boy could be
So we took him there and we told the tale
How his midichloreans readings were off the scale
And he might fulfill that prophesy
Oh the council was impressed of course
'Could he bring balance to the force?
They interviewed the kid
Oh training they forbid
Because Yoda sensed in him much fear
And Quigon said "Now listen here
Just stick it in your pointy ear
I still will teach this boy
He was singing:
My, my this here Annakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mummy goodbye
Saying "Soon, I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi."
We caught a ride back to Naboo
'Cause Queen Amadala wanted to
I frankly would have liked to stay
We all fought in that epic war
And it wasn't long at all before
Little hotshot flew his plane
And saved the day
And in the end some gunguns died
Some ships blew up
And some pilots fried
A lot of folks were croakin'
The battle droids were broken
And the Jedi I admire most
Met up with Darth Maul
And now he's toast
I'm still here and he's a ghost
I guess I'll train this boy
And I was singin':
My, my this here Annakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mummy goodbye
Saying "Soon, I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi."
We were singing:
My, my this here Annakin guy
Maybe Vader someday later
Now he's just a small fry
And he left his home and kissed his mummy goodbye
Saying "Soon, I'm gonna be a Jedi"
"Soon I'm gonna be a Jedi."

Two Outta Three Ain't Bad (Meatloaf)
Posted:
12/9/2008 10:38:00 PM
Written by Jim Steinman and from the classic album
Bat Outta Hell
circa 1978...
Baby we can talk all night
But that aint getting us nowhere
I told you everything I possibly can
Theres nothing left inside of here
And maybe you can cry all night
But thatll never change the way that I feel
The snow is really piling up outside
I wish you wouldnt make me leave here
I poured it on and I poured it out
I tried to show you just how much I care
Im tired of words and Im too hoarse to shout
But youve been cold to me so long
Im crying icicles instead of tears
And all I can do is keep on telling you
I want you
(I want you)
I need you
(I need you)
But -- there aint no way Im ever gonna love you
Now dont be sad
(Don't be sad no)
Cause two out of three aint bad
Now dont be sad
Cause two out of three aint bad
Youll never find your gold on a sandy beach
Youll never drill for oil on a city street
I know youre looking for a ruby in a mountain of rocks
But there aint no coupe de ville
Hiding at the bottom of a cracker jack box
I cant lie
I cant tell you that Im something Im not
No matter how I try
Ill never be able
To give you something
Something that I just havent got
Theres only one girl that I will ever love
And that was so many years ago
And though I know Ill never get her out of my heart
She never loved me back
Ooh I know
Well I remember how she left me on a stormy night
How she kissed me and got out of our bed
And though I pleaded and I begged her not to walk out that door
She packed her bags and turned right away
And she kept on telling me
She kept on telling me
She kept on telling me
I want you
(I want you)
I need you
(I need you)
But -- there aint no way Im ever gonna love you
Now dont be sad
(Don't be sad no)
Cause two out of three aint bad
Now dont be sad
Cause two out of three aint bad
I want you
(I want you)
I need you
(I need you)
But -- there aint no way Im ever gonna love you
Now dont be sad
(Don't be sad no)

Fooled Around and Fell In Love (Elvin Bishop)
Posted:
12/9/2008 10:31:48 PM
...who incidentally shares the same birthday as yours truly. Elvin played the bluesy lead guitar on this track including a two chorus solo but it was sung by someone else -Micky Thomas if memory serves (and it will have to). Without further ado...
I must have been through about a million girls
I'd love 'em then I'd leave 'em alone
I didn't care how much they cried, no sir
Their tears left me cold as a stone
But then I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love, yes I did
I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love
It used to be when I'd see a girl that I liked
I'd get out my book and write down her name
But when the grass got a little greener over on the other side
I'd just tear out that page
But then I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love, since I met you baby
I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love
[Guitar solo]
Free, on my own that's the way I used to be
Ah, but since I met you baby, love's got a hold on me
I fooled around and fell in love
It's got a hold on me now, I can't let go of you baby
I fooled around and fell in love
I fooled around and fell in love, oh yes I did
I fooled around, fooled around, fooled around, fooled around,
I can't stop lovin' you now
Fooled around, fooled around, fell in love
Fooled around, fooled around, fooled around, fooled around,
Fooled around, fooled around, fell in love

Keep Your Hands To Yourself (The Georgia Satellites)

I got a little change in my pocket going jingle lingle ling
Want to call you on the telephone baby I give you a ring
But each time we talk I get the same old thing
Always no huggin no kissin until I get a wedding ring
My honey my baby don't put my love upon no shelf
She said don't give no lines and keep your hands to yourself
Cruel baby baby baby why you want to treat me this way
You know I'm still your lover boy I still feel the same way
That's when she told me a story 'bout free milk and a cow
And she said no huggin no kissin until I get a wedding vow
My honey my baby don't put my love upon no shelf
She said don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself
[Guitar solo]
You see I wanted her real bad and I was about to give in
That's when she started talkin' true love started talkin' about sin
I said honey I'll live with you for the rest of my life
She said no huggin no kissin until you make me your wife
My honey my baby don't put my love on no shelf
She don't hand me no lines and keep your hands to yourself.

the blanket we shared with the peace in our minds
thinking back the memory unwinds
recalling the times and the tie that binds
us to one another
for however it has been frayed and rent asunder
or whatever our misperceptions and blunders
our inability to say goodbye due to situations we were under
i guess it never hurts to hurt sometimes

If We Make it Through December (Merle Haggard)

If we make it through December
Everythings gonna be all right I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shivver when I see the fallin snow
If we make it through December
I got plans of bein in a warmer town come summer time
Maybe even California
If we make it through December we'll be fine
I got laid off down at the factory
And their timing's not the greatest in the world
Heaven knows I been workin' hard
I wanted Christmas to be right for daddy's girl
Now I don't mean to hate December
It's meant to be the happy time of year
And why my little girl don't understand
Why daddy can't afford no Christmas here
If we make it through December
Everythings gonna be alright I know
It's the coldest time of winter
And I shivver when I see the fallin' snow
If we make it through December
I got plans of bein' in a warmer town come summer time
Maybe even California
If we make it through December we'll be fine

...the answer to Paula Cole's question is "the feminists either drove most of them away or made them into a bunch of Alan Aldas through political correction."
Well,

I Guess It Never Hurts to Hurt Sometimes (The Oak Ridge Boys)
Posted:

[Lead break]
Sometimes I feel a wave
Of a past break in my mind
And I know it's gone for good
And it makes me want to cry
Is this all we get to keep
As the years go rollin' by
Just a memory
For all the days gone by.
Oh you're always in my heart
And you're often on my mind
I will never let it die
Just as long as I'm alive
Sometimes it makes me sad
That we never said goodbye
Well I guess it never hurts
To hurt sometimes.
[Lead break]
You try and hold on to the moment
But time won't let you stay
But for every step you take
You lose something on the way
You can't look forward to tomorrow
And still hold on to yesterday
Oh I hope that you can hear me
When I'm saying
Oh you're always in my heart
And you're often on my mind
I will never let it die
Just as long as I'm alive
Sometimes it makes me sad
That we never said goodbye
Well I guess it never hurts
To hurt sometimes.
Oh you're always in my heart
And you're often on my mind
I will never let it die
Just as long as I'm alive
Sometimes it makes me sad
That we never said goodbye
Well I guess it never hurts
To hurt sometimes.
No I guess it never hurts
To hurt sometimes.

A Day in the Life (The Beatles)
Posted:

Written by John Lennon with two verses from Paul McCartney (the less poetic and more mundane ones of course). Nonetheless...
I read a news today, oh boy,
About a lucky man who made a grade,
And though the news was rather sad,
Well, I just had to laugh.
I saw the photograph.
He blew his mind out in a car,
He didn't notice that the lights have changed,
A crowd of people stood and stared,
They've seen his face before,
Nobody was really sure if he was from the House of Lords.
I saw a film today, oh boy,
The English army had just won the war,
A crowd of people turned away,
But I just had a look,
Having read a book, I'd like to turn you on...
Woke up, fell out of bed,
Dragged a comb across my head,
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup,
And looking up I noticed I was late.
Found my coat and grabbed my head,
Made the bus in second flat,
Found my way upstairs and had a smoke,
And somebody spoke and I went into a dream
I heard a news today, oh boy,
Four thousand holes in Blackburn Lancashire,
And though the holes were rather small,
They had to count them all,
Now they know how many holes it takes to fill the Albert Hall,
I'd love to turn you on.

My Country Sugar Mama (Howlin' Wolf)
Posted:

...am in a Howlin' Wolf mood today so here's another one...
Now just tell me sugar mama,
Where in the world did you get your sugar from?
Now just tell me sugar mama,
Where in the world did you get your sugar from?
Way down in Louisiana,
You come off of your father's sugar farm
I like my coffee in the mornin',
Woman I'm crazy about my tea at night
I like my coffee in the mornin',
Crazy about my tea at night
If I don't get my sugar three times a day,
Oh darlin' I don't feel right
[Guitar solo]
You know they're braggin' about your good sugar,
You know they're braggin' all over town
You know they're braggin' about your sugar babe,
You know they're braggin' all over town
(Spoken: what they sayin' about you)
They say that's granulated sugar,
Best ever to come off the farm

Killing Floor (Howlin' Wolf)
Posted:
11/30/2008 1:14:46 PM
On the GnR new album, I have heard very little thus far but after seventeen years and constant delays, it had better be good. (So far I have read one reviewer giving it four stars out of five which is promising.)
On the lyric front, Grizzerman's posting of some of Led Zep reminded me of one of the songs they "borrowed" from on their first albums; namely Howlin' Wolf's song
Killing Floor
which was more than a little borrowed from on
Lemon Song
of which Grizzerman posted the lyrics of.[1] Wolf's tune was recorded in 1963 and covered by Albert King (1968's
Years Gone By
album) and Jimi Hendrix (who played it at the
Monterey Pop Festival
in 1967 which was a recorded concert). Without further ado...
I should'a quit you, long time ago
I should'a quit you, baby, long time ago
I should'a quit you,
And went on to Mexico
If I ha'da followed, my first mind
If I ha'da followed, my first mind
I'd'a been gone,
Since my second time
[Guitar solo]
I should'a went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me
I should'a went on, when my friend come from Mexico at me
I was foolin' with ya baby,
I let ya put me on the killin' floor
Lord knows, I should'a been gone
Lord knows, I should'a been gone
And I wouldn't've been here,
Down on the killin' floor
Note:
[1] Interestingly enough, Wolf actually was going to have Led Zep sued for copyright infringement until Wolf got credit on
Lemon Song
under his real last name "Burnett" for the words they used of his. Unlike most black blues musicians who for various reasons (including at times illiteracy) were screwed out of royalties for their songs at one time or another, Wolf was fortunately business savvy and on top of his publishing stuff.

put where the sun does not shine
it hardly takes an einstein
or various chakras to align
to know what that means
why I am writing this I do not know
could be a whim perhaps although
I think I may go have some bordeaux
red over white whenever possible
