How hard can it be?

Yeah . . toothbrushes . . that reminds me . . .
My neighbour was telling me the other day she thought her dog was going deaf so she took him to the veterinarian. He found the problem was hair in his ears. He cleaned both ears and the dog could hear fine.
The vet then proceeded to tell my neighbour that if she wanted to keep this from recurring she could go to the pharmacy and get some "Nair" hair remover and rub it in the dog's ears once a month.
So she goes along to the chemist and gets some "Nair" hair remover. At the register the chemist tells her, "If you're going to use this under your arms don't use deodorant for a few days."
Neighbour says: "I'm not using it under my arms."
The chemist says: "If you're using it on your legs don't shave for a couple of days."
My neighbour says: "I'm not using it on my legs either; if you must know, I'm using it on my schnauzer."
The chemist says: "Stay off your bicycle for a week."

Hey Collin,
The link to Bill C-27 you provided:
http://www2.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?DocId=3832885&Language=e&Mode=1&File=29#1
I realise you're commenting regarding Section 6 with respect to the unsubscribe mechanism etc.
But I was looking at Section 3 - Purpose of Act.
3. The purpose of this Act is to promote the efficiency and adaptability of the Canadian economy by regulating commercial conduct that
discourages the use of electronic means to carry out commercial activities, because that conduct
(a) impairs the availability, reliability, efficiency and optimal use of electronic means to carry out commercial activities;
(b) imposes additional costs on businesses and consumers;
(c) compromises privacy and the security of confidential information
; and
(d) undermines the confidence of Canadians in the use of electronic means of communication to carry out their commercial activities in Canada and abroad.(Bolding is mine)
I wonder if Section 3 might apply to both POF maintaining user passwords unencrypted and also sending them out in plain text.
And the other part that I stumbled upon is Section 13: Burden of proof.
13. A person
(POF)
who alleges that they have consent to do
an act
(send e-mails including password in plain text)
that would otherwise be prohibited under any of
sections 6 to 8 has the onus of proving it.(Italics are mine)
Doesn't this boil down to POF merely providing the evidence that the user signed the TOS and therefore putting POF in the clear?
I get the feeling the intent of this bill more surrounds a desire to address SPAM from Canadian local business. We have something similar in Australia. There's a lot of convoluted reading in there, so maybe I missed something.
I wonder if Canada have a law encompassing these concerns buried in some sort of privacy provisions?

STOP DELETING MY PROFILE!!
Posted:
10/5/2009 3:44:58 AM
my pics keep being keep getting deleated one by one . .
Yes, it seems like you've lost a couple since first I viewed your message.
. . there is nothing wrong with them ..
It's subjective, of course, but I'll guess they're being deleted because they're somewhat overexposed in the face region and make you unrecognisable. That second one is a bit blurry also.
Maybe they've been 'enhanced' in Photoshop?
Probably not a good idea to keep uploading the same pics. Be aware that continually uploading non compliant pics will cause the system to revoke your uploading privileges.
My suggestion would be to put the colour, exposure and contrast balance back to normal or get some new pics.
I can't see anything in your profile (words or otherwise) that might trigger a 'system' deletion but a Mod may be able to shed a little more light.
(Come to think of it, a 'good girl' who likes jazz and can cook should be exempt from system wrath, but that might be just me.

Total Block...

A "Total Block" link should be in place at the bottom of every profile...
Why?
^^ So basically you don't feel I should have the right to deny your compulsion to be nosey
Oh, I dunno .. you think this should be a right?
It all seems rather incongruous to me. A dating site is primarily geared to broaden exposure I'd have thought.
If you would have performed a thread search, you'd see that a pre-emptive block of someone has been discussed ad-nauseum...
Yep.
Just do a search and type in 'block' specifying this forum . . easy.

it probably doesn't, as a "transaction" would have occurred.
. . which was the point.
however, collin does not have standing to make such an argument, as he is not a "serious member".
. . which is beside the point.
again, it comes down to accepting personal responsibility.
Certainly . . and I don't think anyone is suggesting anything different.
No one, as far as I can see, is suggesting that POF should take responsibility for the users security . .
at the user end.
The question really being asked is:
Is it OK for POF to undermine that end user security by sending e-mails with their password in plain text?
And just to anticipate the . . ummm . . 'answers' provided thus far.
No, I'm not a Serious Member.
Yes, I'm married.
Yes, I agreed to the TOS.
I'm discussing, not complaining.
Yes, account deletion would 'fix' the problem.
I do realise it's a free site.
. . and there's probably a few more I missed.
I reckon these 'answers', while probably valid in various ways, are largely obfuscation.
get used to it: you can't fix things that are out of your control.
Yep.

i submit, that a free online dating website does not meet the requirements for "commercial activity".
Well, it'd be interesting to see if the "Serious Member' thing fell within the same definition.
I wonder if AdSence income falls outside the commercial activity model too. Maybe the 'commercial activity' model is a bit outdated given that plenty of businesses benefit commercially from same.
(remember, those pesky TOS provisions that all members agree to, when they sign up)
Hehe, yeah . . dunno about Canadian law (or any other law for that matter) but in Oz there are provisions that don't permit a business to have you sign away basic rights . . TOS or no TOS.
Is there nothing like this in Canada?

What is your guilty pleasure?
Posted:
10/2/2009 6:15:34 AM
I still don't know how to put those box thingies around quotes haha
Not much of a secret now, eh . .
But try this:
To quote julianx, you need to copy & paste the sentence below into the 'Post Reply' box . . but remove those two asterisks I deliberately inserted.
[*quote]Don't worry, 'Oh My' wants me to install a skylight in her bedroom, I'll be able to have a perv and report back shortly.[*/quote]
And when you remove the asterisks, it'll come out like this:
Don't worry, 'Oh My' wants me to install a skylight in her bedroom, I'll be able to have a perv and report back shortly.
Hmmm . . my guilty pleasure is chocolate bullets. I hide 'em from the kids and all.
Actually I probably have a number of guilty pleasures but the best one is ignoring the actual guilt.

Tell Me About Your Dream Home....
Posted:
9/30/2009 8:53:43 AM
Geeeez . . I just read Message #67. Sounds pretty grand but can you imagine the central heating bill for that place!
I even know some of the kids who have grown up in the house, it's nice to see them come over and say "Hey I was born in that room"
OK . . true story. A number of years ago now, I noticed a car parked outside this house with an older couple inside. Nothing terribly unusual in that except that they were there for some time and peering up at the house. They didn't really look like the types to be casing the joint, but I went out to see them anyway. It turns out that the woman, now living in Canberra, was born here (daughter of the then artist owner) and she was showing her new boyfriend / husband the old homestead.
It all seemed pretty reasonable so I asked if she'd like to take a tour and maybe she could add to the history. Of course, the house had changed somewhat from her childhood but the front room was apparently largely untouched. She was both overjoyed about some parts and despairing about others . . as probably might be expected.
Anyway she offered to send some photos of her time in the house. A couple of weeks later we received a very nice thank you letter together with the photographs she promised . . and in colour which surprised me a bit. There was a photo of that front room and would you believe, it showed the same curtains that were there that day. The curtains were obviously very old, but we didn't realise they were
that
old . . so very fragile and you could easily put your finger through them, but we liked 'em.
My dream home?
It'd have to be the tree house from the book, Swiss Family Robinson . . not the movie version. Those that have read the book will know what I mean. How cool would it be to live in a tree house.

FIRST DATE HORRORS???

I would sincerely hope that was a faux pas, faux pas
Given your response, I guess that's a possibility, yes.
But really, it was just a joke . . black humour if you will. There's always the chance that someone will be offended with that stuff. And that's where we get to the point really . . someone may
take
offence, but there was no
intention
to offend.
But I understand where your coming from of course . . and I wouldn't attempt any feigned sympathies or look to trivialise your perspective.
I also have a sixteen year old daughter.
As I say . . no offence was intended but if you need to let fly at me privately, then please feel free.
On a lighter note I
was
cautioned re the deadpan delivery, but that certain person never takes my advice, so why would I take hers
. . and I've been trying to wean myself off these damn emoticons anyway.
Plus the fact that my first date horror story was at Message # 18 of this ancient thread. I had to check back . . and I was sure I'd related the one where a girlfriend found cause to 'wash' my car windscreen with a piece of battered fish taken as a doggy bag from the restaurant. Had to leave the car there as I couldn't see through the windscreen. Those were the days eh.

I like to make free flow exhaust systems for cars.
It's a somewhat of a spacial challenge persuading four pipes from different points to meet up at the same place given they all have to be the same length. Hmmm . . doesn't sound all that hard now I bang it into one sentence.
Next challenge? . . Lightweight carbon fibre mufflers to go with the above.

my picture was deleted
Posted:

my main picture, only picture, was deleted saying it needed to be a headshot of me. It was of me and my daughter.
Maybe it was deleted because there were two people in the
main
pic?
However, the reality is the pic has gone. No one here can see it . . and speculation isn't much help.
It's worth reading the FAQ . . a gold mine of information listed at the top of this forum:

Who deleted the picture?
As I understand it, profile pics are vetted by the user base. I expect it works something like the community based voting on threads. On that basis, you could expect that . . say, seven out of ten users decided your pic didn't comply.
Don't sweat it too much. Read the rules re compliant pics and make sure it's acceptable. I'd play safe and upload a different pic with just a head shot of you alone.
If there is a group or picture of you with a kid, I usually select the "Needs Cropping" option so we can tell who we are supposed to be looking at.
I'd think the 'Needs Cropping' button is intended be used for pics that look like a passport photo at the top left of a A4 page.
It's unlikely to have some sort of face recognition intelligence and actually know what the user looks like. It isn't cropping in that sense.

Are more of you purchasing MAC systems over Windows?
Posted:
9/16/2009 6:19:10 AM
Apparently MACs have been using GPUs for a very long time now .........
Yes . . but I wouldn't be getting too sidetracked with the GPU stuff. It's really a non issue for the vast majority of people.
All this GPU talk is a reflection of a general trend across all manufacturers to take advantage of the very powerful GPU's already installed in pretty much any recent/decent PC/Mac.
This type of technology will supposedly make the likes of webcam-based lip reading a reality for any PC / Mac . . and apparently that's a good thing.
You could start reading up on the technology as it relates to OS X from here if your interested.
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/12/09/opencl_1_released/
If you're wanting to do more research or ask questions regarding Mac's in general, then the Apple Forums provide lot of information:
http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa
The problem I had was my Quadro drivers in OS X couldnt use the advanced feature set of the cards hardware.
I'm guessing this might be older information from an older system?
In any event, it seems to be supported in the latest version of OS X - Snow Leopard. I'm not aware of the support level prior to that.
Nvidia's integration of the CUDA architecture across its brands and segments enables it to offer Apple users a broad selection of 10 GPU models officially supported by Snow Leopard," an Nvidia spokesperson explained. "The 10 GPU models include: GeForce 9400M, GeForce 9600M GT, GeForce 8600M GT, GeForce GT 120, GeForce GT 130, GeForce GTX 285, GeForce 8800 GT, GeForce 8800 GS, Quadro FX 4800, and Quadro FX 5600.

Changing Your Password Mail From BigFish
Posted:

I didn't get the message to change my POF password . . .
I find it curious that some users got the notice and some did not.
Yeah, I didn't get a notification message either and not sure if / how the POF broader user base
might
be alerted.
At the end of the day, security at an external site isn't really POF's problem but a mass e-mail would still be the right thing to do, I reckon.
For anyone interested, here's a IMEEM help thread outlining some of the occurrences there.
http://www.imeem.com/feedback/forums/NGF9CtIY/-g87FJWo/wrong-username-heeelp/
Anyway . . I deleted my IMEEM account. I was only using it to provide the link to POF and there's no point in leaving any unused account out in the wild, as it were, for a potential hacker.

Changing Your Password Mail From BigFish

I didn't even have that music junk on my account... why would I need to change my password?
You may not need to change your password if you weren't using the IMEEM stuff.
The issue is that many people use one password for many log-ins / sites / accounts all over the internet.
I'd think the point BigFish was making is that
if
your IMEEM account has the same password as your POF account, and your IMEEM account becomes compromised by a hacker, then your POF account may be vulnerable.
Having said that, it's still good practice to change passwords regularly in any event.

I messaged a girl that had Intimate Encounter and now it's like I'm blacklisted
Posted:
9/8/2009 7:48:48 AM
There are some times I write someone & don't even notice that it has intimate encounter listed.
C'mon now . . you write to them without even
noticing
what they're be looking for?
What if she was eighteen years old?
What if she was bi and seeking a woman?
What if she was on the other side of the planet?
Would you not
notice
any of these things?
You do realise one of the bigger complaints from women is that guys don't read their profiles before contacting them, right?
I see this was your first post, so have a look around the forums here. There's plenty of threads on this and related subjects.
I've been refused communication with about 40% of the women I find interesting.
Well, yes, but it's probably better to consider the positive side of this. That 40% are obviously not interested given they have the IE filter enabled . . so that'll save you some time right there. In this regard, you might consider they've actually done you a favour.
The other 60% is obviously where you should be spending your time.
Yet I know many of them would be happy to chat with me, or even meet..
I doubt it. They've stated their preference and there's no point kidding yourself about it.

I reckon they're good. I bought the TomTom application for my phone and it seems to work really well. I used it on my last jaunt to Brizvegas and I tell ya . . I would never have found my way through that maze of freeway that now leads into Brizzy without it.
The last time I travelled that road it was pretty easy to just go through Ipswich and follow your nose to get to the north side via Toowong etc. It'll even find places that aren't on the map . . which is of course why Naamah includes the latitude and longitude co-ordinates on her invitations.
. . is someone I used to go to primary school with...Karen Jacobsen
Nah . . must be a different chick. The one I'm using is 'Jane' . . a plumby voiced English chick . . sounds a bit like Hilly in a good mood.
I'm really awaiting the John Cleese voice to make the experience complete, but Jane is eeeeever so polite, though.

Yeah, me too. This is the Australian forum and while we are accomodating folk, POF has a rule about 'roadtripping'. It's intended to ensure local forums like this one aren't over run by larger groups from outside it.
I dare say the divorce difficulties you guys outline are a problem in the US, but it's not relevent here.
Maybe you could start a thread in your local forum?
Thanks.

With all due respect?

“with all due respect”
I've always thought these were a beautiful set of words as they can mean any of your examples really. As CT says . . very elastic. (although his post now seems to have disappeared ? ?)
I confess that when using that phrase, I sometimes like to consider whether there is actually any respect due at all . . and often . . . there isn't. The beauty is of course that you haven't let on that you don't intent there to be any respect paid.
As I say . . beautiful.
This is my dilemma... I am saying that this persons opinion/decision is wrong and very unfair.
OK, seriously then . . I may not use it, but certainly wouldn't shy away from it, either. Anyway he's a politician and therefore works for you; not the other way around.
It's a bit difficult to say without knowing the details of the letter etc. so presumably, a view point expressed entirely objectively might be better. Too hard to be specific without knowing the whole context / scenario.

Is separated, married?
Posted:
9/3/2009 5:42:26 AM
Please don't paint us all with the same brush; we're all in unique situations.
I'm sure that's true.
However it's worth noting this is an Australian thread and it relates to the Australian situation.
In Australia we have a 'no fault' divorce system.
The Family Law Act 1975 established the principle of no-fault divorce in Australian law. This means that a court does not consider which partner was at fault in the marriage breakdown. The only ground for divorce is the irretrievable breakdown of the relationship, demonstrated by 12 months of separation.
http://www.familylawcourts.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/FLC/Home/Family+Law+Principles/No+fault+divorce/
Under our system, an absence of agreement between the parties would see the Family Court decide matters.
Our basic health care is available to all citizens and not dependent on a spouse.
Reading between the lines of your post makes me thankful we have the system we do.
Good luck with it all.

what you expected??
Posted:

Well, I made it back in one piece. Thanks to the hostess with the mostess for a brilliant shindig.
Absolutely. A bit like expecting a soft breeze and getting a tornado . . .
Haha . . yeah . . and I now understand why they used to name cyclones after women. We should go back to that. (kidding)
. . how did it hold out against real life???
I agree with the 2D to 3D thing and it seems my preconceived impressions were either bang on correct or completely wrong . . no middle ground. I'd met some of these forum folks before and the only ones that surprised me were the cyclone lady and the scholarly gentleman. Nothing bad in either case, mind you . . quite the opposite . . just not what I'd imagined. And yet, for all that, everyone seemed to fit in really well . . like they'd all known each other for years.
And there must be some cyber synchronicity going on somewhere because three of these gals ended up wearing pretty much the same outfit . . even without the green glasses.
I reckon the real hero was the cyclone lady's driver. He must be something to put up with all these unknown whackjobs and still keep a smile on his face.
We missed out on the semi-pornographic paper mache peace offerings to the fire gods this year but there was naked fire dancing, so the tradition is becoming well established. Just how a certain person finds naked dancing OK and yet can't stand the sight of naked feet escapes me a bit. Maybe she was distracted . .

Where to go in Brisbane when you are over 30!!!!

try the story bridge, that caters for the mature crowd . .
Yes . . when visiting my sister in Brisvegas we sometimes go to the Story Bridge Hotel on Sunday afternoon before I catch the plane out. It's a pretty good Jazz session if you're into that kinda thing. Probably better suited to the over thirties . . over forties more likely.
Jazz clubs are often a good prospect, I reckon.
On a side note, my sister used to go to the Story Bridge to listen to the Bee Gee's . . before they became famous.

Is separated, married?

OP, you've listed yourself as 'separated' and I don't think anyone can fault you for that.
Undoubtedly a prospective partner will want to know just how 'technically married' that might make you, of course. As noted by Soulmate, Americans see the separated status very differently. Here in OZ, most folk are much more likely to be considering where your head is at.
Unlike America, you'll only have to put up with the worst case scenario for twelve months anyway . . and less if you're a bit clever.
I can understand all of the emotional stuff around being separated and just not getting around to getting divorced.
I don't think I understand it at all really.
Why would one separate from their spouse and yet remain married?
Why would one not take the logical next step of getting the divorce happening? Wouldn't that kinda preclude / inhibit the 'moving on' thing? I'd have thought he whole point of separating was to become single again so that one could make a new beginning?
Is maintaining the married status some sort of security blanket?

Oral...is it a dealbreaker?
Posted:
8/16/2009 8:02:31 AM
Geeeeezzz people . .
So the prospect of no oral is actually a deal breaker? . . and it looks like the consensus is unanimous? . . Really?
Cool . . I'll take the 'ney' position.
But just so I know where we are, I need to draw some boundaries around this . . you know . . I just want to be sure of where we all stand so that when I call out
shallow
, no one gets offended.
Sooo . . if no oral is a deal breaker, does that mean just on the first date, or subsequently as well.
What about mutual oral? . . . and is that OK on the first date?
Presumably oral is OK for the guys too. Should the guys 'kick 'em to the curb' if the gal won't engage in a little social smoking?
But hang on a minute . . she'd have to swallow, right? I mean . . spitting would be just sooooo much more of a deal breaker, yeah?
Apparently Linda Lovelace's mother went down on the Titanic, but she could cook up a storm. If she couldn't cook and wouldn't go down, I could probably see the point.
Then again . . what if she looked like Susan Boyle but had false teeth? . . would that be a distinct advantage? . . just imagine.
Good . . we've got that established.
But hang on a minute . . just thought of another. What about . . . umm . . how to put this nicely? . . Ummm . . what about back door follies (figure it out, OK ) . . would that be a deal breaker? What about that on a first date?
Oooooo . . I just have to have a man that likes to suck toes . . sheesh. Would that be a deal breaker?
Anyway . . I heard that Brad Pitt doesn't go down . . . just so you know, OK.
Hahaha . . it's my considered opinion that all these
Whoooo boy . . definite deal breaker
cries are just that.
No point having some gorgeous prospect read these threads and think he can get away with no oral, is there? No siree.

Episcopalians Are Left Confused - need to fix Religious Affilation

all these countries plus more are part of the Anglican Communion under the Archbishop of Canterbury.
So . . searching within the USA will bring up Episcopalians (though they're listed as Anglicans).
Similarly . . searching Canada will bring up Anglicans.
Given the listed countries are all
'part of the Anglican Communion'
, the proposed change of heading is
not
, in fact,
'needed to find others of our faith'
as first suggested, yeah?
Be aware the default 'Anglican' heading is probably understandable considering POF is a Canadian site.
But, OK . . you were looking to have the heading changed.
Did you do that thread search?
The reason I suggested a search is not because you might not have a valid point. It was more to illustrate that the chances of the heading being changed are pretty much zero.

Thread search is your friend.
Do a thread search on this forum using the word "religion".
There are many discussions on this subject that will answer your question.
Bottom Line?
Any change to the current options is unlikely.

Forum threads deletion process
Posted:

None of the supposedly already posted threads on that topic touches upon what I asked but let's not leave the facts cloud your judgement based on your gut reaction and 2 seconds spent on reading and understanding the OP.
Just a mo . . lets examine what we're talking about here.
You said your thread was deleted and wanted to know why.
You described your thread as . . .
ironically, the topic was about the lack of feedback in read&deleted emails
Based on your description, it was indicated to you that such a thread would be considered redundant.
And you responded with:
Unfortunately, both in the deceased topic and here, people don't seem to read past the headline, which led most to lump it together with all the other whiny "why she didn't answer me I'm so nice" threads. That was not the point but I can't be bothered to repeat myself.
Given that we have no clue as to how your deleted thread
may
have been valid and you aren't prepared to provide any enlightenment, you shouldn't be surprised or disappointed that there is no solution being offered.

. . the Judge's decision was just affirming accepted practise. When asked by the interviewer why it needed a court ruling then, she said that since it is a high profile case the hospital was covering their staff.
Yes . . and I think I read somewhere that it was the nursing home that asked for this ruling. Is that correct?
The fact that the nursing home asked for the ruling and not Mr Rossiter paints the picture correctly.

Why are so many women psychically connected to Egypt , Atlantis , American Indians etc...
Posted:
8/14/2009 5:38:03 AM
I have found
over the years
women are
psychically connected to
rockstars , mysterious ages long gone , their pets ,
furniture
etc...
It's a bit cryptic but I think I've figured it out . . in spite of the OP's attempted clarification.
The OP is talking about times past . . in the era of black & white TV. Those old TV sets were really considered furniture back then.
He's suggesting that women became
psychically connected
to black & white TV's and would be able to channel (get it?) via said TV's. In fact they would channel surf between 'Days of our Lives' and 'The Young and the Restless' . . and in colour, no less.
By studying just those two programs, man is able to determine precisely what women want in any given situation. Granted, it pays to ignore all those times it seems they need a Bex, a cup of tea and a good lie down. Commercial television has a lot to answer for.
I wish you people would try to keep up . . It's all pretty obvious, really . .
Well, OK . . it might not be all that obvious. It could of course be Friday . . and popcorn time.

Looks like the subject of the OP has won his case today.
A landmark decision in Western Australia's Supreme Court has given a Perth quadriplegic the right to refuse food from his care provider.
Christian Rossiter, 49, was given the approval on the condition he understands the consequences of his actions.

Irrational fears.

I once had an irrational fear of holding babies. I've no idea where it came from . . never had one bite me or anything.
When my son was born, it just vanished and I've never had a problem with babies since. Weird.
And speaking of dentists . . an old girlfriend of mine had a fear of dentists, too.
I remember her telling the dentist: "I'd rather have a baby than have a tooth extracted."
The dentist said: "Make up your mind, lady. I'll need to adjust the chair."

Does a Fully Coherent You, Have the Rite to chose How/When to Die ?

He is in a sound mind to make this decision for himself and I fully believe he should be allowed to.
Agreed.
And we know he's entitled to refuse treatment. i.e. being fed via a PEG.
Should he refuse being fed via a PEG, is he entitled to ask that his pain be treated? Probably yes?
Presumably the medical staff will provide as much pain relief as he requires.
Presumably he'll need more and more 'pain relief' as time passes.
Presumably at some point, that 'pain relief' will indeed relieve
everything
. . not just the pain.
Given we already know the outcome, why don't we cut to the chase and save him all that 'in between' pain?
Dang . . that suddenly becomes assisted suicide, doesn't it.
What if there was a mandatory seven day cooling off period like there is for door to door sales. You know . . if he still wants to go ahead with the whole thing, no one can say he didn't have a chance to rethink it all.
What if he's already made out one of these 'Life Wills' where he's requested that should a life ending / vegetable producing situation occur, that he not be resuscitated?
But anyway . . . my Mum passed away about two years ago. When I arrived at the hospital, I asked the doctor for an appraisal of the situation. To cut a long story short, he told me they had tried a number of treatments and none of them had worked . . and that they were (essentially) out of ideas. Of course, those weren't his words, but that's what he was conveying, but in a very appropriate and caring manner.
I had arrived carrying on about feeding her through a tube while he was trying to tell me that this was her time to go. It took some time for all that to sink in, but he was right. I just hadn't come to terms with it.
My Mum had always indicated how she wanted her life to play out when her time came. We'd casually talked about this stuff many times around the kitchen table . . as you do.
There was no big hoo-har about it. The medical staff managed her pain. We all knew what was going to happen. It was fine.
It seems to me that this guy in the OP is doing no more than that.

So called Terrorist Attack at Holsworthy

we need to kick them towel heads out etc let them kill each other off we should
A very well thought out point, too. Methodists can also be very pushy when riled.
am i to believe the guards at the gate guarding the armory are unarmed..
Well, yeah . . ya see . . all the valuable guns are in the armoury.
Am I to also understand that the only thing standing between some crazy person with an econovan full of explosives and billions of dollars of fighter jets is one unarmed person checking Id's at the gate...this cant be true
Good point. Not sure about a RAAF base but I'd think it's not too different. I suspect though that there would be other gates to pass through before you got to any fighter jets.
Security may have been tightened up since 9/11, but I wouldn't bank on it. Remember the recent Chaser's episode where they got to within 10 meters of the hotel where George Bush was staying . . and with one of them dressed up as Osama Bin Laden, no less. That was over 100 million dollars worth of security, right there.
In any case, the real targets would be people, not jets or the armoury, and the working population of any Army / RAAF base won't be armed. Security on the front gate of a military base probably isn't all that much different to any large complex / compound / airport. In fact, I read some of them are controlled by private security companies . . Chubb Security and the like.
So, I reckon from the terrorists point of view, Holsworthy Army barracks is actually a pretty soft target.
Let's see . . plan to be there at lunch time; drive up to the gate; shoot three guards and proceed to the mess hall. Walk in and shoot a further 47 guys. By some miracle, the police SWAT team arrive in reasonable time and shoot the terrorists.
From the average Aussie punters point of view, the thought that four ragamuffin Australian citizens of Somali and Lebanese descent can strike at the heart of the nations defence establishment killing fifty or so of our finest soldiers does indeed strike terror into their minds.
Mission accomplished, I guess.

So called Terrorist Attack at Holsworthy
Posted:

I'm sure they'd have plan for such an attack... given recent world events...
why don't they trust soldiers and guards especially with live rounds?... it IS their job... right?
I'll bet they don't have plans for such an attack actually. Well OK, they may have plans but the reality is that as juz4u says, the ammo and the arms are kept very separate. They'd need a separate ammo store close to the armoury for this plan I'd think.
Back in the day . . the early 70's for me, I was in a field force unit, so spent six months of the year in the bush. All ammunition was ordered in for exercises. Part of this was for safety reasons and we weren't meant to bring any ammo back from the exercises either . . which was always fun.
At the base, there was no situation where you could go to the armoury to collect a weapon and then go to the cupboard (or whatever) and get the ammo for it.
Having said that, every fortnight we had to do a run to the bank to collect the payroll. It was all paid in cash in those days. We were armed with 9 mm automatic pistols but due to regulations, had no ammo. Of course that was seen as a silly situation and somewhere along the line someone had 'seconded' three rounds for each of the weapons. I was told they were all duds and one round even had the dent from a firing pin, so we knew that one was****. Anyway, I never encountered anyone that looked remotely like they were willing to try robbing us of that payroll. People would generally part like the Red Sea when we walked into the bank. Remember this was the 70's and people openly carrying weapons was very uncommon. Police didn't wear them back then
But in terms of a terrorist attack, I reckon they could easily drive up to the gate house, shoot two or three guys on continue on in . . easy.
As for the guards on the front gate, they were never armed in my day though there were instances when we had the odd pick handle leaning in the corner. Some of those cane toads could be brutal.

I'm running a Mac and usually use Firefox, but also tried Safari just now. Both work as per my previous post.
If logging in to the forums doesn't seem to work, my thinking is that the only place the previous page exists is in the browser cache, yeah?
I'm not much of a PC man, but holding the Ctrl key, and pressing F5 should force a refresh, shouldn't it?

But a bit more on topic, I hadn't considered the height thing was much to worry about till a few talked about leaning in for a hug etc. . . and I'm a bit thick that way. I agree it's nice from the males perspective, too, but I also like the idea of really tall gals . . say, 6 feet.

Because that's all that's happening here . . some one is projecting a little of their insecurities.
Don't get me wrong. Probably everyone has some niggling insecurities . . just like we have preferences.
eg..
how do you stay looking young?...hang around really...really old people...
