Do Jews, Christians and Muslims All Pray to the Same God?
Posted: 11/1/2009 12:25:14 AM
would intelligent people not be of reason??? could they be spiritual? could non intelligent people be of reason and be atheist? all humans are little scientist regardless of how unreasonable their theories seem to be. A hypothesis does not have to be reasonable and factual just disprovable to be scientific remember when the world was flat..... WE all come up with theories that comfort us that nurture our ideals whatever suits our societal and cultural beliefs it doesn't mean we are unreasonable and unintelligent. Each of these religions has been nurtured and created in its own culture and society within the Abrahamic tradition. In today 's society we have a choice whether or not to believe in an Abrahamic god or any deity. However an unreasonable and unintelligent person in the middle ages would have been a scientific atheist because one would have been burned at the stake as a heretic if he or she didn't believe. Very unreasonable and unintelligent....but now scientific and atheistic beliefs are copacetic.

and turned into dust leavin' him in a bind
Lost he would never find his own kind
He scooped her precious dust and blew
A moist kiss into her dry lips to pull through

Her very essence that turned his heart to stone
Collecting only a ticket instead of a bone
He sent her on her way ticket full her day saved
No recall except sand granules on his lip he waved

In death words silent;
In silence
Words weigh heavy.
Silence captures
Lost words
between intimate eyes.
In life words uncover
silences burying
Love
Corpulent words
Express truth which
silence finds free,
but lost eyes
find words to express
intimacy

Why do Non-Christians feel the need to press their anti-religous belief's on people?
Posted: 10/21/2009 10:10:35 PM

It is therefore hoped that this initial look at a subject of pressing importance will inspire more extensive research on the subject. Pressing questions include the reasons, whether theistic or non-theistic, that the exceptionally wealthy U.S. is so inefficient that it is experiencing a much higher degree of societal distress than are less religious, less wealthy prosperous democracies

Please note where it states"pressing question include THE REASONS." again correlation never means causation and that was a correlation study.

Whoa hold the fort....
Happiness is subjective>> IMO we cannot judge someone else' s external expression of their internal state by our own internal state.
As far as statistics go they are not facts they are numbers... one must uncover the facts beneath the numbers.. statistics can be manipulated.. most college graduates with a 4 year degree in Science easily understand that these statistics mean nothing by themselves.

Believe!
Posted: 10/18/2009 9:50:43 PM
I think that each of us will believe what we believe and if our beliefs do not follow our particular societal laws than we will suffer the sanctions of our societal laws..no matter what our religious/non religious beliefs may be we must follow the imposed laws. And if we disagree with laws than we follow the proper channels to change them...

So, a scientist would ask, how, given such a demonstration of all of these different 'beliefs' which are really personal interpretations of 'truth', why should we 'believe' that there is any validity to all of these claimed yet conflicting 'truths' since they are all different?
do scientist believe their is any validity to cultural relativity? or ethnocentrism? IMO I believe we do..... scientist have also found validity to individualism personality and genetic differences associated with nurture verses nature> Societal affects on individual expression. IMO scientists have also realized that perception affects ones reality. IMO I think that is how science validates these truths.

Believe!
Posted: 10/18/2009 1:05:48 AM
IMO if one mistakes truth and light for the same thing that would be unfortunate. Taht some find truth to be distant and elusive is a belief...to me Truth is always near and I can find it any time I need to....we each find comfort in our beliefs and that is what makes the world go round i believe many people find that truth is distant and elusive and found in far away mountains and oceans and many people believe differently too....Like I do or like others do.... Light is about illumination, cheerfulness, wisdom, lamps, shining and brilliance while truth is about verity, stability trust, certainty, balance, equity, be fixed in position, revealing, strong affirmation. this is why light doesn't show truth and truth is known internally and light is shown externally through others eyes unless one is an ego maniac.

Occupainti
Eyes so blue they revealed
All that was true and hidden in me.
You brought to me everything you
Had—wrapped us in your paint tarp,
Rolling beneath the inky celestial expanse
My breath caught smothered in flecks
Of dried paint and beige dewy canvas,
I broke free of that stifling oilcloth.
Hid behind the willow tree and peeled my
Swimsuit from underneath my dress
Exposed everything on go cart tracks
You grinned from ear to ear and waved
As I gave up holding my skirt in my lap.
When I was lost in those dry halls
You sent origami notes.
One day to see your old friend Joe, we trekked.
When he asked me to walk away, you
Gave me permission, because you were free.
He jotted poetry, and books and quotes.
One given name, yet I met his chosen name
Writing poetry about my dance with my son
Before our formal introduction, then I read it
From his hands 8mm details spun through my mind
Freely, swinging my boy to blues music in an
Open Air Theater; a deaf man sat next to me, keeping
Beat, tapping his feet thoroughly enjoying himself.
He came flooding back in hues so vivid; blood
Stuck in my torpid tongue: I complimented Carl
On his ability to capture, so perfectly, the sensitivity
Of a woman with her son: JC and I danced for
Awhile until he no longer heard the music
When I was lost traveling through dark rooms
He returned to see me

Today as fall turns my neck

Under summers heavy head
Wonderment glazes the greens
To Gold, red, and russet leaves
I comprehend the giving
Some day my paper statues
Will fall from a register
Vent on some sole caught dry
In Air ducts, who so charmed
By my love willingly sits
With the word winder
Who wants only
To observe their journey
Through the heat.

Tarot Cards

She laid them out
In a Celtic cross
Telling me about,
Which was at loss
Turned the final Card
It appeared a hermit
Bent over staff, carrying a lantern
A man wizened hard
Walks alone a path unfit
For two or more, takes sojourn
Upon a mountain looking
Forward, light shining down
Guides tired travelers walking
Solo after day’s sundown.

Autumn's Tiny Thistle Weed
Stiff soft heads cluster
Some buds encased in
Silky shells unopened
Petals forever captured
Innocence near others
Dry, slanting, fine spiked
Seeds still clinging, by
The dark star-bursts
Empty husks shed
Every seed before;
Dry stem curls leaves
Pressed into shape;
Silver sheen weaves
Round unbroken stalk
Of autumn’s cull to
Winter’s snapping Jaw
Hinged in cold skull,
Breaking all
Except the evergreen.

Smoke fills my eyes.
From words and prayers
Striking my heart but the smoke
Hasn’t cleared;
So many fires burn
Words are
Lost on clouds tinged with blood
Rushing in our eardrums, as it carries
Oxygen through the fire we find in words
So I will wait until the smoke dissipates
From my eyes and my words no longer burn

sharpened with nerve

held me close in a wineskin
round his shoulder

Carried me through streets
I wouldn't dare walk alone
Helped me find a home

My shadow and I
We are never separate
Just two sides of one

That shadow creeps up
sneaks in my mind and tells me
secrets I will not

Of darkness they be
I wish them false and childish
often they ring real

In this reality
Stepping into my shadow
I find a safe place
and change in my pockets

I resurrected an old poem I wrote for a college writing prompt: it was a woman's face superimposed over a punching fist..

My Face

I search for those like me
who've lain their bodies down( reference to ISIAH 51 KJV )
for others to cross over
Undercover
We're all broken shamed
analyzed, criticized, degraded
victimized

my face is a fist
It batters outward
Screams dirty names
Pounds with a twist

My voice speaks the words
Makes outrageous claims
My knuckle break through
Causing a big scene
Erupt into the obscene
but they don't hear the due

Some think I am mean
I curl them at the joint
Just to prove my point

My eyes flash bruising
My face flat, forceful
I scope words cruising
For oppressive pull
I don't miss a beat;
I deliver the heat.

It's on ever street.
Most people we meet.
In every house, on TV
How much unlike do we see?
It slants to them and we.

A testament to the injustice.
Inequality rides,
Passing judgment
On waves of raised
fists: walking the precipice
Black, Yellow, Crimson, and Red
Sweeping, foaming tides
Never blending , only dying
On the beige concurrent beach.

when born new and pudgy
Spoon fed freedom and quality
Show no sensitivity
See through conformity's haze
Any color can wear a suit of beige

True freedom-a teasing torment
Out of our reach never unifying
Individually trying.

A Place for my stuff in the poetry forums...if you care to share you are welcome... I am not going to pick up all my old stuff from the forums and post it in here. but un-posted or new stuff will go in here. Write the stuff you would like to toss or the stuff you think is a score.
TOSS is also an acronym.
Here is the first couple of poems

I’ve seen colors in this kaleidoscope
Break down and reshape as I float towards
my spot, bits of colored glass cut and snag
my woolen sweater that blurs the focus,
the circular peering glass holds an eye
While I move about, in and out love’s pure
Clear, and bright room left for smaller pieces
Let our long gaze see myriad of change
Watching while our woollies snagged and tattered
Hang loose their shrinking forms our broke buttons
Polished with fingertips aged oils due
Clasp together holding thin the skin yet new
Tinted dancing rays splash myopic eyes ripe
Forever you might know I am not your type

........
Last line repeated stanza

Swim blinded screaming marco polo(joro's last line)
Snakes slither released from her head
Memories wrap around like seaweed
Pulling divers of stone down below

Roll onto the sand, shore in hand
Parched halls salty tear cry in land
Whereupon, sand dollars crumple under
Footprints placed ages before on a grassy knoll

IMO I can't speak for everyone. I have noticed some faith dogmas and doctrines teach rigid legalism and works, which might lead to expectations of "perfectionism". However for myself the only thing I expect of humans is that we are "perfectly" flawed with or without our belief this helps me with disappointments and self worth issues..

see my wide grin through the barrelhouse haze
Sucking down cheap cigarettes and kesslers
Straight or over rocks if I was in an easy mood
the bartender knew my burn
I didn't waste time with water

set it up for me as I came
in but never Knew my name,

In the early days
I only danced fast, and always
all night long never kept lists
If my memory served pizza
At 3 am in motel six but
couldn't recall your face
The pizza was no disgrace
