How long does it take to move 300 men from Cuba? The only problem.....some people soooooooooooo afraid.
Looks like Obama has now admitted that he will miss his promised deadline. I guess its pretty hard to move 300 people after all. At least hard for this administration.

Obama Warns About Double Dip Recession
Posted:

We probably will have a double dip Recession. The dollar will become very, very weak sooner or later (Currently at a 15 month low), inflation will show its ugly head, another possible wave of foreclosures far worse then the "sub-prime" mortgage mess of the past may sweep over America (the alt-A or Alternative A-Paper mortgages) and gold, silver and other metals will rise in value.

Pelosi was in favor of the three-day “read the bill” rule before she forgot it on Obamacare
On September 24, Speaker Nancy Pelosi told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that she was "absolutely" committed to putting the text of the final House bill online for 72 hours before the House votes.
Here a few things she has said in the past as well:
1/14/05: "The abuse of power in this House, the ignoring of the three-day rule, that members can't even see what they're voting on before they vote on it..."
12/8/2003: "A member of the majority in the other body warned recently, 'If you have to twist people's arms to vote for you on issue after issue, then you would be wise to re-evaluate your positions."
1/14:05: "Even if you separate yourself from any of the examples, and just say, 'I sent you to Congress to represent me.' You do that in what you say there and how you vote, and I expect that you know what you're voting on. So the message to the American people is that a vote...is a vote for the members to be able to read a bill before they vote on it. IS THAT ASKING TOO MUCH?"
http://www.weeklystandard.com/weblogs/TWSFP/2009/11/pelosi_breaks_pledge_to_put_he.asp
TWS: Madam Speaker, do you support the measure to put the final House bill online for 72 hours before it's voted on at the very end?
PELOSI: Absolutely. Without question.
If a healthcare bill makes it to Obama's desk I fully expect him (President Obama) to let the public read the bill for 5 days before he signs it into law. Just as he promised as candidate Obama.
But I would not be surprised if he breaks this promise again since he has already broken it a few times.

I am a home health nurse and I run into many of the men and women who are suffering from the PTSD and have been severely ignored by the VA ... released from VA care and told they are just imagining things or just plain deemed able to work and in no need of further care.
Why would anyone expect better treatment from a Government run heathcare system like the VA?

What if there really is a fire? Do you still have the right to speak out and yell "fire"? Of course you do.
The 2nd also makes specific mention that "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." "The Right of THE People." I think I have heard something similar like that before. Oh that's right. "We the People"
(During the American Revolution)--Militiamen were lightly armed, slightly trained, and usually did not have uniforms. Their units served for only a few weeks or months at a time, were reluctant to go very far from home, and were thus generally unavailable for extended operations. Militia lacked the training and discipline of soldiers with more experience, but were more numerous and could overwhelm regular troops as at the battles of Concord, Bennington and Saratoga, and the siege of Boston.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Revolutionary_War
Our Militia men (at that time) were our farmers and towns people and they were non-government and un-paid. So how can a non-government, un-paid militia force be created when needed if the right to bear arms is violated?
By removing the right to bear arms we remove the right of the people to form a non-government unpaid militia like during the revolution.
So what you are saying is that immediately after the Revolution the Founding fathers were in constitutional Violation since they allowed the public to keep and to continue buying arms.

The Swiss have a militia army and the soldiers in Switzerland take their military rifles and ammo home with them. How many of our liberal friends in here think that the National Guard should take their military rifles and ammo home with them?
A few definitions of a Militia
-Defense activity or service, to protect a community, its territory, property, and laws.
-The entire of a community, town, county, or state, available to be called to arms
-A private, non-government force, not necessarily directly supported or sanctioned by its government.
-An official reserve army, composed of citizen soldiers. Called by various names in different countries such as; the Army Reserve, National Guard, or State Defense Forces.
Our farmers and towns people who were non-government and un-paid helped free this Nation from it's oppressors. And how can a non-government, un-paid militia force be created when needed if the right to bear arms is violated? By removing the right to bear arms we remove the right of the people to form a non-government unpaid militia like during the revolution.
It sounds like many people are saying that after the Revolution the Founding fathers were in constitutional Violation since they allowed the public to keep and to continue buying arms.
On a off note I did see a funny bumper sticker a while back. It had a picture of Hitler doing the Nazi salute with the caption that read-"Everybody who believes in gun control raise your right hand."

Nobel Peace Prize Laureate confirms Faux News is NOT a news organization

All the news media outlets are guilty of "cherry picking" issue's here and there in order to appeal to their main viewer base.
Kinda like when MSNBC aired a story of Angry White Health Care protesters showing up with "Assault Weapons" strapped to their backs. (Video Below) They(MSNBC) said "Here we have a man of color in the Presidency and white people showing up with guns strapped to their waists."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UYKQJ4-N7LI
But when you look at the whole picture you see that the man that they (MSNBC) showed with the AR15 was actually a African American Man.(Video Below)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfGF-wI6KUw&feature=related
Or this story in which NBC was busted in fabricating a story in 1992(below)
The "Full" footage of that health care protester (with the AR15) is also shown on the video below but from CNN(Below)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fvBQDHqdCck&feature=related
In the end all the News Media outlets are guilty of misleading their viewers from time to time. And that's a shame.

Why would he get rid of it when he voted for it's Reauthorization in 2006? He's got the votes and all the support he needs and I agree that he should get rid of it.
But it looks like you were wrong when you said you thought he will be "working on that very soon ... if not already"
Eh, we still have 3 more years for him to work on this one.

"Currently, we don’t think it will get to 10 percent. Our current number is somewhere in the 9s.”
-Ben Bernanke, Chairman of the Federal Reserve testifying before Congress’s joint economic committee (May 5, 2009)
“That’s a story I’m confident will be repeated at companies across the country — companies that are currently struggling to borrow money selling their products, struggling to make payroll, but could find themselves in a different position when we start implementing the plan,” Obama said. “Rather than downsizing, they may be able to start growing again. Rather than cutting jobs, they may be able to create them again.”

Yes that I do know. A few years ago you could buy 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 Russian Hollow points for $80 dollars. Now its like $200 dollars for 1000 rounds.
Obama did one heck of a job stimulating the gun and ammunition sector of our economy. He was awarded the Nobel Peace prize and now I'd like to nominate him for gun and ammo salesman of the year.:laugh

Gold-The only safe investment?
Posted:

India’s central bank just bought 200 metric tons of gold from the International Monetary Fund which has further increased Gold's overall value. Currently it's around $1100.00 an ounce. Some people are saying it very well could go to $5000.00 an ounce. I'm thinking maybe more like $3000.00 an ounce. I highly doubt we will see gold under $900.00 US Dollars per ounce ever again. What do the rest of you think?
Actually, no. I think there is a risk of deflation, with the dollar dramatically increasing in value against other currencies, causing problems with US exports
Well at the current moment other currencies are increasing in value over the US Dollar. And it looks like the risk of deflation that you thought we may be facing is nothing to worry about. Our real risk will be inflation.

How do you really feel about this large stimulus package?
Posted:

Post 109--CharlesEdm--"Wait a minute are you using pre stimulus package job losses as evidence that the stimulus package doesn't work?"
It's not looking so good at the current moment.
Post 142 responding to another posters quote(Below)-
Exactly right. How are millions of government jobs going to do anything to produce goods and products and wealth. You can't redistribute wealth if there isn't any.
Post 142's response (below)
Government spending produces WORK. Work requires JOBS
Sorry but I have to agree with the poster who argues that Government jobs do not produce wealth. Government jobs are not productive. Sure its "work" but that work is mostly paid for by tax dollars. The more Government jobs we have the more our taxes have to increase in order to fund those jobs. When we make things here in this nation and sell them to other nations we bring other nations money and wealth into this nation. Which makes the overall nation richer.
If Government jobs were the solution to economic woes then the Soviet Union would still be here today. China is doing things right. They are not a "closed society" like the Soviet Union was. The Chinese are more then happy to put their people to work in factories by making things cheap to sell abroad in order to bring that wealth into China. Just imagine if the Soviet Union would have eased up and put her people to work in factories to produce stuff to sell the rest of the World like China is currently doing. They probably would have never gone bankrupt.

I'm glad I'm a dorky coin collector and added so many gold and silver coins to my collection over the past 10 years. The way things are going I might have to sell them in the future. Who knows. Very scary.
Anyways this over 10% unemployed really sucks. What ever happened to all of those "shovel ready projects" we heard so much about?
As far as the Obama stimulus is concerned. I heard a while ago that a huge portion of stimulus money is going to be injected into the economy right before the 2010 elections. By doing that the unemployment numbers could come down and the Democrats could claim a small victory and use that small victory as a argument for re-electing them. But it would only be short lived and unemployment could rise again after everyone has been re-elected and the stimulus spending comes to a close.
If I lost my job I'd have to go back into the military...ugh. I am truly thankful that I have a job cuz this is terrible.
Just imagine if John McCain was elected President and unemployment hit 10%. The liberals would be going crazy. Things like Nafta have really hurt this Nation. And I thought Obama promised us he was going to re-negotiate Nafta if he was elected to the office of President. I guess we have 3 years to wait for that promise to be fulfilled.

In the end the cable news networks air 'opinion' shows. And they all have the leanings.

Upstate NY congressional seat battle

Its a good thing that the President Obama did not did not travel to up-state New York and campaign for the Democrat Bill Owens. The two state Governors that he did campaign for were both defeated.
Note to self for future re-elections- Don't let the President campaign for you.
In the end this NY-23rd was a special election. Maybe some people who normally vote Republican were unaware that the Republican dropped out and they were "throwing their vote away" by voting Republican like they normally do. Or maybe they just did not like the Democrat or the Conservative. We will never know. Let's see who gets elected in NY-23 when the real elections and campaigns take place. But congratulations to everyone who won-Republicans and Democrats

AP IMPACT: Clunker pickups traded for new pickups
By TED BRIDIS, Associated Press Writer
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091104/ap_on_bi_ge/us_cash_for_clunkers
The single most common swap — which occurred more than 8,200 times — involved Ford 150 pickup owners who took advantage of a government rebate to trade their old trucks for new Ford 150s. They were 17 times more likely to buy a new F150 than, say, a Toyota Prius. The fuel economy for the new trucks ranged from 15 mpg to 17 mpg based on engine size and other factors, an improvement of just 1 mpg to 3 mpg over the clunkers.

Is it Time to Bring the Troops Home?
Posted:
11/3/2009 7:14:30 PM
We could always pull out and let China annex Afghanistan into her borders. They would love to be able to control all of the natural resources and minerals in Afghanistan. China would fill Afghanistan with probably more then 500,000 troops and things like "suicide bombers" would be a thing of the past. I don't think the red army would play all that nice when attacked by Afghan peasants and other militants.
Many of our European allies in Afghanistan don't even shoot back when shot at. What a joke. I do think the outcome of the Soviet-Afghan war would have been a lot different if Stalin and his Army Generals had still run the Soviet Union and the Red Army when they invaded Afghanistan. Heck the Russians invaded Berlin with something like 2.5 million men. That's only one city and then the captured axis troops were hauled off to gulags (Labor camps) and many were not released until the mid 1950's. A great war book to read is--The fall of Berlin-1945.
Bottom line is that if were not gonna fight this war to win then we should count our losses and pull out.

Is It Time to Secede Yet?
Posted:
11/3/2009 3:04:47 PM
Back in the late 1990's a Democratic "blue dog" congressman by the name of Collin Peterson (Minnesota) gained a lot of attention by proposing a constitutional amendment that would allow the residents of Minnesota's Northwest Angle to vote on whether they wanted to secede from the United States and join the Canadian province of Manitoba.
I personally would have rather seen the people of the Angle Inlet (Minnesota) become their own small Republic then merge into Manitoba. But it does not matter since this never happened. But it makes for some interesting conversation on this topic of succession.

^^^But how much fossil fuels were burned up and how much CO2 is sent up into the atmosphere into the production of these more environmentally friendly cars and trucks? We'd have been better off just driving the older "clunkers" and not even building the newer cars and trucks because factories pollute so much.(factories are very bad for air quality) Yes gas will be saved (Which is great). And lets not forget that in this "environmental equation" we have to add in the extra amount of CO2 that was sent into the atmosphere and fossil fuels that were used in the production process of the new cars/trucks and the destruction of the old clunkers. I wonder what that will do to the "estimates that range from the hundreds of millions to just over a billion gallons of gas per year saved" that you read or saw?
The new car/truck had to get better then 2 miles per gallon more then your current car/truck to qualify. How does that exactly stop global warming? Many supporters of this program never want to address a key question and that is---
How much pollution does it take to build that truck or new car? How many miles will a person have to drive in their newer environmentally friendly car/truck to offset the pollution that was made in the production of the new environmentally friendly car/truck when compared to just driving their clunker? And how many miles will a person have to drive in their new car to offset the pollution that was created by the destruction of their old clunker? (Remember the clunkers were destroyed so a lot of fossil fuels were used in the destruction process as well.) And just think of all the plastics and other non biodegradable "toxic" junk that is going into landfills from those clunkers. Plus fossil fuels are also burned in the mining process for metals and they are also burned in the shipping process. So the new car/truck has to offset those CO2 and pollution emissions as well.
Now will a person ever offset the pollution (that was created by building the new more environmentally friendly trucks/cars, and the pollution that was created by destroying the older clunkers (trade in) by driving one of these new cars or trucks? Probably not.Unless you drive it many many miles(but maybe if you bought a high gas mileage hybrid though. But not everyone did that). It takes a lot of energy to produce a new car/truck and it might have been better for the environment to keep driving these "clunkers" and not let the factories pollute the environment by building these new cars and trucks. (since it takes a lot of energy and pollution to make them) but that would have a negative effect for the auto industry. But if your gonna claim that this is better for the environment then these are valid questions to answer.
Is encouraging people to buy new stuff and throwing away old usable stuff good from an environmental point of view? We should try to maximise the usage of our things.
Why destroy those old clunkers anyways? Give them to the poor or to charity. Many poor people could use a older usable car. That older car might help that poor family get ahead in life.

Upstate NY congressional seat battle

This is great! I hope Hoffman pulls out with a victory! But it may not be easy for him. Hoffman has a small lead (in the polls) at the moment but the undecided voters will decide this race at the end of the day.

Is It Time to Secede Yet?

Wisconsin is where I am from and it is kinda a odd state. Technically we are a blue state but that's really only because of the unions. We have fairly light gun laws and our population tends to be fairly conservative. I love it here but I'd move to Montana, Wyoming, Texas or Alaska if we went all "mega liberal". (Good hunting/fishing in those states and Wyoming, Alaska and Texas have no state income tax!)

^^You forgot to add that Obama did not place his hand over his heart during the singing of the National Anthem while attending a an Iowa campaign event in 2007.
Very Patriotic indeed. But hey I'm not whining about it, I'm just pointing it out.

Rep. Alan Grayson - Republicans are Enemies of America
Posted:

Grayson said--"Here I am the only member of Congress who actually worked as an economist, and this lobbyist, this K Street whore, is trying to teach me about economics."
It was a senior Federal Reserve adviser that he referred to as a "K Street whore. I do think that his words (as tacky as they are) are being twisted.
Grayson is standing up to the Federal Reserve and I'll give him on pass on this one. I really do not want Grayson's comment to be used to remove our focus from the real issue and that is the Full audit of the Federal Reserve. (H.R 1207 and S604)

Afghan Deaths Increase - deadliest month in Afghan war

Obama will probably eventually end up sending some troops. I'm not sure that he will send the full requested numbers. But perhaps he will send around 25,000 to 30,000. (Just my guess.)
If I do remember correctly our main military objective was to take out Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan and not to engage in a "Nation Building" mission.

H1N1 has mutated. We're screwed now!

I heard that President Obama's daughters have not been vaccinated against the H1N1 flu virus. And that he does not want them vaccinated. If this is true then why must the public receive a H1N1 vaccine that the President will not allow his own children to receive ?.....
It's still early yet and maybe Obama's children will receive their H1N1 shots soon. But still I would think that the very man that declared H1N1 a national emergency would get his own children vaccinated in a timely manor. Afterall this actually could be connected to our national security. The last thing we need is a President worrying over his sick children. He and his family should 'lead by example' and get their H1N1 shots asap.

Roman Polanski Arrested

Everybody would be trying to burn myself or any other man if we did the same exact thing as Polanski.
He's no different then anyone else.
Send him back and let the legal system deal with him.
On a off note: Polanski can still have romance and possibly a relationship in prison. Perhaps 'things' will happen to him even after he says no.

Administration plans big pay cuts at bailout firms

I fully support a paycut if a company still owe's the government bailout money.
That being said. Once the bailout money is paid back in full the government should no longer be able to mandate paycut.

In regards to post 80
I did 6 years in the Army reserves as a UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter mechanic. MOS-15T
In regards to post 81
Please let us know how you Know this Fact?
I used the word "SEEMS" which means this is just my observation.
And I fully support a withdrawal from Iraq, Afghanistan and all other nations in which US Forces are based(Germany, South Korea)
I think we should pull the troops from places like Germany and put them on our borders. We can keep out the drugs and the illegals and those troops would also stimulate the border states local economy
And I fully support a Gitmo closing. That being said I also fully expect President Obama to be true to his word and accurate with his Gitmo closing date and Iraq war pullout. Should not take long to move those 300 men from Gitmo as Jack D Ripper right fully pointed out.

OBAMA will have his hands full for some time ... putting things back to what they were before the war-monger/fear-monger landed in Washington. I think one of the first things he needs to address is getting rid of that Patriot Act ... that really needs to be nuked.
I hope you do know that then Senator Obama voted for the Renewal of the Patriot Act in 2006.
The below link is a list of everyone who voted for and against the patriot act in 2001 and 2006

The troops support President Obama 6 to 1?
I'm not to sure about that anymore. General McCrystal seems to be a bit frustrated. I do hope that Obama holds true to his promise to pull the troops out of Iraq in August 2010. But that could very well be a 'pipe dream'. We will more then likely have plenty delay's in the Iraq troop withdrawl. Just look at Guantanamo Bay. Obama pledged to close it by January 1st 2010. Here we are in late October 2009 and hardly anything has been done to close gitmo.
On a off note. Ron Paul was also very popular with the military. More popular with the military then McCain. Paul and Obama raised the most money from the military for their 2008 presidental runs.

I'm still using my Cingular Samsung SGH-x497 that I got around 4 or 5 years ago.
It does not any fancy bells or whistles. But I can talk to people on it, and thats all I need.

New global currency?
Posted:

^^It's both parties that are ruining this nation. I'm not sure if you are aware that Bill Clinton played a major role in the mortgage mess. He's the president that repealed the Glass-Steagall act or also known as the banking Act of 1933. Clinton essentially deregulated the banks by signing the Republican led Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act into law in November 1999. Right before leaving office...
What we need to do is to stop re-electing all politicians who do not hold true to their campaign promises.
Here's a link to a left leaning website that is critical on Clinton's role in the mortage meltdown.
http://www.progressivehistorians.com/2007/11/bill-clintons-role-in-mortgage-crisis.html
Yes the Dow hit 10,000 as of lately. But that's mainly due to speculation and very low stock prices. The dow was over 14,000 when Bush W was in office and again most of that was due to speculation. The housing market has picked up and much of that is due to very low home prices and the $8,000 dollar first time homeowner credit. Home sales will probably drop when the housing credit is no longer available. Auto sales picked up when the "cash for clunkers" program was going on. And predictably
auto sales fell when cash for clunkers was no longer available. Too much personal debt is a big reason that we Americans are in the mess. And the government is essentially "bribing" us to take on even more personal debt with credits like cash for clunkers and the 1st time home owners credit. We need to rebuild our personal savings. That will be painful but necessary. We also need home prices to keep falling. That sucks for current home owners. But when homes are cheaper and more affordable people can pay them off faster and be able to save more money for their retirement.
However. If you think the markets are only going to go up and that a global currency is nothing but fluff. Then I say invest, invest, invest.

New global currency?

The US Dollar is now at a 14 month low. Gold and Silver are very Bullish at the moment. Some people are projecting gold to hit around $5000.00 a ounce. I'm thinking maybe more like $3000.00 a ounce in a few years. I personally think the Dollar will go lower. First we had the housing bubble crisis then the banking crisis. Next up...the Dollar crisis. A currency crisis(dollar) will be like dropping a atom bomb on our economy. We have a 70%consumption based economy. When the dollar crisis shows it's ugly head we will see consumers further tighten their spending even more. People will only buy the essentials when their money is greatly devalued. And that will cause more unemployment, possibly higher taxes on home owners and higher interest rates. Yes I think there will be a global currency. But more in the future. Not yet. We may see a regional currency. But that to is probably a few years away. I personally do not think the dollar will be around 20 years from now.
Peter Schiff was right.
