Leeds Singles Party - Thursday 1st October 2009
Posted: 9/8/2009 3:56:55 PM
Has one of those general email invitations been sent out to all people in the area? That's how I found out about other ones.... I think it's something the OP needs to do.

Funniest First Contact Message.
Posted: 6/17/2009 12:58:33 PM
Was funny to begin with, but the fact that this has actually happened on more than one occasion is starting to get me down a bit, messages along the lines of:
"Are you a bloke?" "Are you a Ladyboy?" etc

New Feature...Go on a date this Friday night!........
Posted: 6/17/2009 12:38:31 PM
What an excellent idea - and I had the option to search 15, 25, 50 or 75 miles, plus an age range choice.

I've signed up but hope it doesn't come across as sad or desperate. Thing is, why else are we all here? It's only a date.... (Who am I trying to convince eh? Hahaha)

Hull Meet - 29th February 2008 - From 8.30 p.m. - Barracuda Bar
Posted: 2/4/2008 2:56:35 PM
I'm going to bring a friend as too much of a chicken to attend alone!

As it's a Friday night and bound to be packed, are we arranging a particular place to stand around and meet, like perhaps near the pool table or by the big screen, you know, just so we can easily find one another.

Cheers me dears (quaking in my boots)

men crying ok or not
Posted: 1/25/2008 5:57:30 PM
As far as I'm aware men are human (well, most of them) and it is a natural human response to cry when emotionally fraught. Of course it's ok for men to show emotions in public I hate that sexist macho ideal that a lot of women force upon men.

Are some of you women too scared to meet from the site?
Posted: 1/25/2008 5:31:24 PM
I'm quite worried about meeting off site, in fact have never done it. Thing is some guys get really put off by this, I'm not saying I never will, but when I don't agree instantly that seems to be the end of it and I don't hear from them again. It's quite depressing as whilst we are chatting I think they are nice, decent fellas and then they prove themselves to be, I don't know how to put it, but it sort of shakes my faith in what they wanted to begin with. Or rather what they expected from the meeting.

Am I expecting too much? Probably. Am I embarassed by the stigma (my own perception of myself) of being incapable of meeting people in real life? Definitely. Should I even be on a site? Probably not... Am I still somehow hopeful? Unfortunately so.

Ho hum.

Oh, didn't realise we're supposed to book friends in too, can you add Fiona to the list too please, she's hopefully coming with me. Thanks
Btw I've added a note about the meet on my profile and had quite a few responses due to it, so that's been an added bonus!

Black Forest Gateau

2 round chocolate sponge cakes
100g powdered sugar
250ml whipping cream
50ml kirsch
100g raspberry or cherry jam/jelly
100g good quality bottled or canned cherries in syrup, drained
chocolate shavings, to decorate
Cocoa powder, for dusting

For the kirsch syrup:
100g water
100g caster sugar
50g kirsch

Whip the cream with the caster sugar and kirsch.

For the kirsch syrup, heat the water, caster sugar and kirsch in a small saucepan until the sugar dissolves. Turn up the heat and boil for 3-4 minutes - until it thickens slightly.

Carefully slice each cake in half in horizontal layers.

Spoon enough kirsch syrup over the chocolate sponge layer to moisten, then spread with a layer of raspberry jam.

Cover with a layer of whipped cream, then a layer of cherries.

Top with another chocolate sponge layer. Spoon kirsch syrup over the sponge layer, then spread with raspberry jam, whipped cream and cherries. Repeat with the remaining layers - finishing with a layer of cream.

Cover and chill the Black Forest gateau for at least 4 hours or, ideally, overnight.

Decorate the cake with chocolate shavings and a dusting of sifted cocoa powder.

Are common interests important or not?
Posted: 1/15/2008 4:55:58 PM
I think having SOME common interests is crucial, if everything about you was opposite you'd never be able to go anywhere or do anything together that you both enjoyed! Trying to appreciate or understand someone's activities even if you don't share or like them though, is a wonderful character trait.
However, SAYING you have common interests in order to impress/keep someone NEVER works! No, no, no, don't do it!

Does nail polish have any hidden meaning?
Posted: 1/15/2008 4:45:38 PM
I'd say definitely not. Sometimes I paint my nails and sometimes I don't and the colour is purely whatever I see on my shelf and think hmm, that's pretty!
As for flowers as long as they're not the garage bought ratty half dead ones which signify a forgetful cheapskate with no imagination, I don't put any store in their "meaning" anything either!

Are humans carnivores, omnivores, or herbivores?
Posted: 1/15/2008 4:34:58 PM
Chimpanzees are omnivores aren't they? And aren't we somewhat like them anatomically? Do they have the enzymes? But then again Pandas should be carnivorous but can't be bothered to eat meat and so stick almost exclusively to bamboo (before you start I do know the real reason why) which their stomaches can't handle properly and I wonder if I'd class them as herbivores, carnivores or omnivores?

Is it wise to have sex with someone 21 years younger
Posted: 1/15/2008 4:07:27 PM
[Girls that age want something to happen FROM what they give at the time]

What a remarkably STUPID thing to say. Unless you mean the fact that she's asking him round for sex, that THAT's what she wants to happen.

When I was 21 I knew my own mind and what I wanted. I have had sex with men much older and much younger than myself, my choice. And their ages had nothing to do with whether or not it was a good idea - that was just my crap choice in men!!!

clashing tastes in music
Posted: 1/15/2008 3:50:10 PM
I have very varied musical tastes, I like a lot of different styles, but there are things I hate, like everyone.
I went out with a guy though, that believed if you didn't like exactly the same music as him (a few odd bands here and there) that there was something fundamentally wrong with you. He could be really vicious (verbally) if I mentioned I liked a song that wasn't "on his list". I actually stopped listening to music whilst I was going out with him, apart from the few bands we both liked.
In the end I couldn't stand it any more and it was one of the reasons we broke up, his constant insistence that I explain why I liked something and what it's "merits" were and then tearing me to pieces over it anyway.
My point being it can be very important to some people.

p.s. I do realise that it was a very unhealthy relationship and I never should've put up with it, blah, blah, blah

What was your favourite childrens tv show?
Posted: 1/13/2008 2:29:08 PM
The Flumps, god, I loved The Flumps. Then again there was Mr Benn and Willow the Wisp, Dangermouse and Trapdoor... All great.
Looking forward to buying the Times for the free DVDs this week, some of my faves on there.

punk and oi! bands old and new
Posted: 1/13/2008 2:25:46 PM
I miss all the gigs I used to go to. Love (and seen live) The Stranglers, SLF, Sham 69, Anti-Nowhere League, UK Subs etc, etc.
Gotta say Stranglers (with Hugh) get my vote any day though.

There be a strange garlic here...
