You already have a dog so maybe a hobby would help and some people do charity work too. And don't take looking for someone too seriously. When you're in 'not looking' mode is when your world usually gets rocked.

that the lying part at least by Bush himself is not there
Most people would say if you intentionally mislead people it constitutes lying no matter how you do it, by sign language, nuance, exaggeration, etc. What a creepy place it must be to be on the Right and parse the term 'lying' after how they treated the last president.

I think it's better to get it out. Others may not care for it but you'll live longer and you'll separate yourself from the crowd. Yeah, there are times when you really can't and a lot of the time it's counterproductive so you have to be willing to pay the piper if it's ever out of bounds.

High Class In Borrowed Shoes...
Posted:

We haven't had an actual government since forever, but especially since Bush and his party took control of all three branches. It's been a kleptocracy more than anything else with the stolen money going to insure their buddies get rich instead of tending to people who work. But hey, we had a heads-up when the defacto president, Dikc Cheney, said, verbatim, "Deficits don't matter". I think the full quote was, "Reagan proved deficits don't matter."

We can take a cue from Europe, especially Germany. Smaller cars, sin tax gas like we do tobacco, no more suburbs, invest in wind/solar/ nuclear energy, etc. Of course Republicans axed the latest tax incentives for alternative energies so their loyalties are easy enough to see.

Why annoying commercials are supposed to make us buy something is beyond me. The one where the guy starts to talk at the same times as a jackhammer goes off gets muted every time. Imagine the ad execs pitching that one to their customer, then imagine their customer saying, "Great idea!". Time for someone to retire.

How to cool the planet?
Posted:
7/4/2008 7:17:25 PM
There's already a fair amount of dirt in the air counteracting green house gasses. Ex; after 911, no planes flew for several days and there was a measurable difference in air quality. But something tells me more dirt isn't the answer. We could stand to make a massive effort to get off of oil but the tax incentives for that field of work were killed by the prez and his buddies even though other countries are way ahead of us. Yeah, he's brilliant.

Economic Stimulus for US economy
Posted:
7/1/2008 2:03:02 PM
I think the good furniture is from North Carolina but most of those jobs are now in China. The reason we've sunk so low so fast is because we already spend too much so another holiday made for shopping would only make things worse. The best economic stimulus would be a massive effort to get off of oil. There are tons of jobs in that field but our oil-man 'president' won't be the one to jumpstart it.

Thank god. Hey, next time you do your taxes, send uncle Sam an extra 20% because the more you pay the better for the rest of us. That's assuming taxes are good and according to your opening post they are, right? And when Dems undo Duhbya's tax cuts you'll be for that too, right? Or will you start another thread b*tching about it.

who really are the greedy ones?
I'm greedy too!!! Yep, the oil companies should take over the country because when you get right down to it, they basically humanitarians. No wait, then they'd have to govern with the best interests of everyone so that wouldn't work. Maybe they could gradually avoid building new refineries so when it's crunch time they'll make more money than god. Nope, check that one off the list already. I'm not sure what to do but like you op I'm thrilled with how oil companies do business. Lets hear it for $7 a gallon!!

House Democratic leaders put together the largest Iraq war spending bill
Posted:

Instead of trying to blame everyone else, just once I'd like to hear someone on the Right say they screwed up, this war was completely unnecessary and based on a pack of lies and the people who took us there should be prosecuted. But I won't hold my breath. They'll be passing the buck into old age just like the 'president' who will spend the rest of his days swearing with a straight face that he did the right thing.

Democrats are using the War for political gain.
Yeah, those Dems are pretty bad. At least the ones who went along with it at the outset. But they can at least say it wasn't their idea. Nah, it was your guy who, among other things, wanted revenge for his daddy and wanted to run as a wartime president in '04. I'd say that's political and criminal to boot. But rather than hold anyone accountable for dragging us there, the Right throws puny punches at Dems for funding a war Republicans now wish they'd never even heard about.

Communism reborn in America!
Posted:
6/29/2008 4:57:46 PM
Somewhat off topic but Tom Friedman's column today talks about the stakes.
My fellow Americans: We are a country in debt and in decline — not terminal, not irreversible, but in decline. Our political system seems incapable of producing long-range answers to big problems or big opportunities. We are the ones who need a better-functioning democracy — more than the Iraqis and Afghans. We are the ones in need of nation-building. It is our political system that is not working.
I continue to be appalled at the gap between what is clearly going to be the next great global industry — renewable energy and clean power — and the inability of Congress and the administration to put in place the bold policies we need to ensure that America leads that industry.
“America and its political leaders, after two decades of failing to come together to solve big problems, seem to have lost faith in their ability to do so,” Wall Street Journal columnist Gerald Seib noted last week. “A political system that expects failure doesn’t try very hard to produce anything else.”
We used to try harder and do better. After Sputnik, we came together as a nation and responded with a technology, infrastructure and education surge, notes Robert Hormats, vice chairman of Goldman Sachs International. After the 1973 oil crisis, we came together and made dramatic improvements in energy efficiency. After Social Security became imperiled in the early 1980s, we came together and fixed it for that moment. “But today,” added Hormats, “the political system seems incapable of producing a critical mass to support any kind of serious long-term reform.”
If the old saying — that “as General Motors goes, so goes America” — is true, then folks, we’re in a lot of trouble. General Motors’s stock-market value now stands at just $6.47 billion, compared with Toyota’s $162.6 billion. On top of it, G.M. shares sank to a 34-year low last week.
That’s us. We’re at a 34-year low. And digging out of this hole is what the next election has to be about and is going to be about — even if it is interrupted by a terrorist attack or an outbreak of war or peace in Iraq. We need nation-building at home, and we cannot wait another year to get started. Vote for the candidate who you think will do that best. Nothing else matters.

I think you missed my point. Both groups are willing to vote against their interests. Pumas are mostly women who appreciate the fact that they can go to a doctor without Bush and his buddies in the room but are willing to forget all that since their candidate is out of the running. It's sour grapes, not thoughtful voting.

Pumas remind me of low income Republicans. The patriotic types who live near the poverty line but always vote against their economic interests because they think it will spite liberals. Pumas would apparently not mind if abortion were made illegal as long as it meant some kind of revenge for their candidate. Both groups treat their votes as emotional daggers.

It's a sad state of affairs no matter which corner you're in. The problem seems to be that the only people able to fix it are the ones who's only interest is raising more money to insure they get re-elected. Who thought up such a stupid system in the first place. Someone said countries like ours have a life span like everything else and we're entering the last stages. Nosediving might be more accurate.
