Instant Messenger Help.
Posted: 4/16/2009 7:52:27 AM

I see a massive increase in site use and number of people using the site when there is no IM.

How can you even know this? There has always been IM. Atleast in the 4 years I have used it. If you judge by the time people are online. (this could be the result of trying to figure out why its not working, and going to these forums to say wtf.). Or by the number of emails? Obviously people will send more emails when they can't communicate a better way. But in the long run you will loose hits if you don't come up with another messenger.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer 8 Goes Gold

IE8 is a great browser! I've been using it since the beta and never had a problem. It still beats Firefox any day of the week in speed.

IE8 is nothing but a pain in the azz. Its just not compatible enough.

I've been using IE7 since it came out and love it. Very user friendly. I've tried Firefox but occasionally run into a problem and have to resort back to Explorer. So finally gave up on it. IE7 coupled with XP Service Pack 3 has been very reliable and I never use any sort of popup blockers or security software. I've never had a single virus or malware issue since SP3 came out.

Vista from my experience is just XP with a bunch of garbage added to make it look different, run slower, be less compatible, and be less user friendly. I'll probably be using XP pro and explorer until the microsoft gestapo come and peel it out of my boney fingers.

"No idea what's wrong with your mum's computer, but I do have a suggested fix: Ubuntu."
Ya lets give his mom, who isn't likely a programer a non user friendly operating system!
That makes a lot of sense.

I fix and sell computers all the time. The problem this guy is discribing is very likely a hardware issue. Either the power supply or a bad motherboard.
The best thing to do first is to try and reload windows XP (if you don't have a disk you can usually find them on Craigs, list for about 20- 30 dollars.) Make sure its an original holographic disk with either home or Pro that matches your sticker on your machine, it won't matter if its been used before. If that won't start to boot when inserted then most likely it will need a power supply at the least.

looking for new IM
Posted: 4/15/2009 5:26:09 PM
[I have accounts on other dating and social networking sites that I rarely log into and never have I paid one cent to have the option of sending IM messages. I guess it will mean moving to Yahoo or MSN (yuck!!). ]

Just like all other things in life. The best things are free. Free to the user anyway. Television (until cable anyway) has always been free and a very successful business(paid for by advertisers). Online especially, free has always been the way to a successful business. (Just ask MicroSoft about Internet Explorer, or My,space or, Facebook,or.... ). I've always like POF and I'm hoping they don't fumble the ball on this one. There is tons of possiblity for success and profit that hasn't even begun to be tapped. There is always someone else waiting for a fumble to pick up the ball and run with it. Both Myspc and Fcbk have very good built in messengers. Certainly the same can be done here.
No one will pay for IM they will just go elsewhere. I completely agree that the current messenger is annoying because it was slow to initialize. But it is what works for most of us who rather have a conversation rather than writing emails.

I would highly recommend that the link to IM someone be put at the bottom of their profile only rather than under random thumbnails!

I agree 100%. Without IM even as it was slow to connect this site has no advantage over my,space or tag,ged or other social networking site. Girls get too many emails to respond to, so sending an email is 99% of the time a waste anyway. Without IM there is no point to this site.
