Roll the Dice Rally
Posted: 3/10/2010 6:09:21 PM
Denny and I are planning to attend this rally again this year. It is one of the better ones with very good amenities, toilets and showers.

Big flat camping areas, plenty to see and do, and a few min walk from downtown Warwick.

See ya there!

Another Online Sucker scam.........

Fair trading is a toothless joke.

Car dealers have been advertising Hyundai Getz for $13990 for several years now...

go try and buy one!

3 yrs ago I did, and was told that was old stock and no longer avail...$15990 now

I bought an Echo

but still see the $13990 advert!

Tried a few times to upload pics..no good.

Now I don't even have the access thingo so it isn't looking that good for further attempts.

Some good pix up already anyway!

We had a really good weekend. The M'bah motel was terrific, and even if it was a variation from the intended plan, we had a great time. Lots of laughs, and I got to find out just how immature some so called "grownups" can be...just because Al's room was used as "common room" and got a little trashed....is no reason to go to anothers room just to turn it over as well!

I don't care anyway because I had a lovely sleep thanks to Dr McWilliams and Proffessor Glen Fiddich!

The weather got really noice once we got back to civilisation (Qld).

Riding in the wet requires a lot of concentration and care, and I needed a nanna nap when I got home.

Will be doing a cafe run tommorrow if anyone is looking for a "wind down" ride.

I'd call it a success!

I think 11 bikes turned up, which was less than expected, but certainly enough to make it interesting.

Could have done without the little crash...but to find the silver lining...it did demonstrate the value of good "gear" and afterwards, everyone put on jackets and gloves for every round.

I think that this type of activity is really worthwhile and builds skill and confidence.

I will be organising more of these days in future, but intend to withdraw from POF activities from here on in. I am hopeful that those riding freinds that I have made thru POF and keep in contact with, may post dates in here, all are welcome, the more the merrier.

Those riders that are interested in Motorcycle based activity, why not have a look at becoming a "Dungbeetle Biker"

Enter stage right singing this....

http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Ax8JYmoRhy4&feature=related

This place needs to be renamed POC..Plenty of Comedians!!!!

Look what you started Hoppy!

We have to be careful with humour as it seems very easily misunderstood.

Hoppy we love you and no-one wants to thrash your bike!

Rainbow...I figure that if 500 ppl show up here I can just bury them up the back between the Jehovas Witnesses and the Mormons...Im getting out of the earthmoving game, so I may not have the equipment to bury bodies for much longer.

Bionic...."I pity the fool" that tries to steal my bike.....I have a trained attack animal chained up in the shed. Some ppl say that Gunea Pigs do not make good guard dogs, but they are very cheap to run, and this one has a particularly bad attitude!

Exits stage left...singing this... (This band lived near my home in NZ)

Those wanting to use Hoppy's bike should have a few before..it will be a good way to show the effects of drink driving.

Also..bring a paintbrush, it is only fair that we help Hoppy to get his bike looking 100% after we have all dropped it a few times.

I will supply some really cool yellow paint that was left over from the Bulldozer.

On Saturday..

There will be 2 slalom courses, and one braking lane set up.

I would like to have 2 ppl running each.

The Slalom is self explanatory, and require little imput, perhaps just monitoring riders entering so as not to have congestion, and if the need arises, to help riders lift the bike back up. The layout will be explained before we get started.

Although it is no race, it might be interesting to time each riders first lap, and then compare the time to later attempts...to see if there is an improvement. Best ask each rider if they want to be timed, some may find that it causes stress to be timed.

The braking lane..

Riders will enter the lane and get up to 40kph.....the lane supervisor will signal..and the rider will try and stop as quickly and safely as possible. The distance will be marked out in chalk on the seal, and the rider will be told...eg "5.5 meters" It will be easier for riders to remember their own distance, and try to shorten it. Trying different ways is encouraged, to find the best way for yourself.

I would like some volunteers to assist.

If there are enough volunteers then all should get a chance to have a shot themselves. You do not have to be an advanced rider to help out. You can volunteer to supervise one or both activities

Cheers, Drone

A minor change of plans..

Everything is the same for everyone except anybody who had plans to join us at the venue.

If you are NOT able to get to the start point (My Place) around 0800, and want to come directly to the practice area at a later time...best ring me on 0411 749 116.

I am absolutely rapt with the response to this, but..the excellent response has made it necessary to use a different site. It's a bigger area, a bit short on shade, but we will sort something out!

This time next week!

Hi All..................

Decisions, decisions, should I go to the Southbank family day and have some fun, OR, should I go to Drones Training Camp and get out of the novice level ( thats probably not going to happen if Drone is in charge ) Decisions, decisions

Without my lessons, its unlikely you could get as far as Southport never mind Southbank.

Once we get that trailer bolted on, it will look like a trailer, but act as "training wheels" so those little skinny white knobbly kneed legs can finaly have a rest!

Hi Andy.

We have only done one skills day before, but as it went well we thought to have another. This one is much more popular and the numbers are looking pretty respectable.

We used an unused carpark on Hope Island last time and intend to do it again, there is a chance with the larger numbers that we may get chased off, in which case we have an alternate site in Robina.

It's very informal, no one is n charge exactly, but everyone is encouraged to join in and practice together. It's good fun, improves those important low speed skills, and theres a BBQ afterwards.

We are hoping to make it a regular thing, but also check out the rides that happen approx monthly, for when you are in the n/hood!

Wheelie lessons?

Can show the basics but perfecting requires practice better suited to younger (faster healing) types

If you search "How to do wheelies" on youtube there is a very good step by step video made by a MC magazine test ride team.

We are also safe and home, Monica has headed off to Byron, saying she expects to sleep well tonight.

Our "short ride" ended up being about 400k's (2 full tanks of juice for me!) but no incidents, or trouble with Mr Plod.

Another top day out, with great company, and excellent weather.

Remember that there is a skills building day in 2 weeks time on Sat 17th. It's not just educational and good practice, but fun too.

cheeky old blighter!

I'm losing weight (gradualy) besides..they make 2.3ltr bikes now so fat is not as big an issue as it was.

Trikes are almost as bad as sidecars..they are the motorcycling equivalent of peadophilia if you ask me! I'd have nothing to do with them!

I hope Im still in as good a shape as you when Im 75 Barry, from a riding point of view that is!

Don't know how I'd handle it if my looks went that bad though!

I keep looking in here to see more pics...c'mon ppl...I saw lots of pics taken, but so far only Rainbows ones are posted!

Wow!

a week ago I was thinking that it looked like a waste of effort, if there were so few that wanted in....but look at it now!

I'm starting to worry it will get too big! (Yeah yeah...I know I'm a worry wart!)

The area we will be using is big enough, and what I am seeing at this point is to set up about 3 areas. I'll split us into 3 groups, and then every half hour or so, rotate to the next course.

The greatest "danger" in the kind of practice that we will be doing (low speed) is when your bike stalls with a "cough" that results in the bike falling into the turn. Unlikely to be injuries but scratched paint or broken indicators are equally undesirable. In order to reduce the risks, I would ask those coming along to practice "Slipping the clutch" a little bit in the lead up. I keep 2 fingers on the clutch, and slip the clutch to allow very low speed, rather than risk engine stalling from turning too slowly.

The techniques will be demonstrated on the day, and that is the reason for the practice, so it is not essential to be expert at it..but a bit of preparatory "homework" will be good too.

Today I got another 20 Tennis balls and some giant chalks....really looking forward now!

Can someone else make Barry a Dunces hat...it could have a big "D" on the front..or "Barry" written inside.

Oh..and don't worry...I already have a rubber chicken!

I must say, that I am very bolstered by the posts that have been submitted today. I was not thinking about taking my bat and ball and going home, but must confess that I was thinking that the way that some ppl perceive things, shows that many have chips on their shoulders, or baggage that seems to influence the way they veiw the world.

My personal life philosophy is that you choose the way you want to be, it is not a result of your experience...that is to say, if you have been cheated or hurt, you can become suspicious and defensive, but in the end you will cheat and hurt yourself.

I am in no way retracting my apollogy, I am truly sorry to have upset Rainbowskin, and will walk more carefully around her in future.

As for the rest of you fun lovers...I'll see you 2moro!!!!!!

Pillions looking for a ride

Well....it looks like it worked!!!!!!!!!

am I out of line to do that?????

I would put other names against riders, but I don't know what a question mark means. If your one of the "?" riders...why not state either "Pillion available" or "No Pillion required"

Every ride I have been on with POF there have been empty pillions...My own perspective is that although I may have a preference for some of the ladies, whom I know are good pillions, I would not say "NO" to anyone sill.... keen enough, to ride with me. I can see your point about the "getting picked for sports" analogy, but in reality there is no line up, or chance of being the one that nobody wants, left standing at the start point!

In the end, we all do what we think is right for us, but I reckon it would be a damn shame to miss out on a fab day (they always are!) for fear of humiliation that is exceedingly unlikely.

Hope that all the ladies turn up, and have a top day out.

And you know.....I have not been long in the "dating" scene, but I can relate that us guys tend to feel that we are not always in the best position when making advances to women. There is a fear of rejection and humiliation, probably disproportionate to the real risk, but nevertheless there! Thats just the way it is! I appreciate that the bike rides can be, but are not necessarily a "DATE" per se, but if you never go....you'll never know!

I don't know about "no-one" answering emails but it is a shame that modern internet etiquette does not bear much resemblance to "Manners" that we were taught as kids!

I guess that its "easier" to ignore a message than to reply to it, but a bit gutless, and thoughtless. On the other hand...I got a contact from a lady once, I read it before going to work, then did not get in front of the computer till a day or so later. When I did I found a quite nasty email telling me what a stuck up ***hole I was for not even having the decency to reply. I did reply, with my explanation and a clear indication that the lady wasn't my "type" (My Mum was a nutter, so they are not for me!) but with the absense of body language and facial expression, we have to be quite careful that we do not give the wrong idea, or just as importantly, take offense where none is meant!

Norel...why not put your name in for the skills builder on 17th Jan, will be great fun and excellent ground-work for new bike/riders.

See ya later on!

I'm the last person who should complain about thread hi-jacking cos I'm a serial offender, and if it keeps things interesting...it's all good!

But...I copied and pasted this just so as to keep us from getting too far off track!

Rustee,

No charge because it is just a few ppl getting together to practice. No body is "in charge" and all are responsible for themselves.

On restoring bikes.. I've done a few, not sure if they are a cost effective unless you can do most of it yourself, but there is certain amount of satisfaction in it!

See ya Sunday!

Hi Snoopy,

Re licence..the answer is probably YES but... I have a 50cc scooter that GCB has put dibs on that I'm sure she would be able to share if you just want to try it out. All you need for that is a car licence.

It is held in a quiet carpark, but would still be considered "public area"

Hi Briz and Gold Coast Blonde. . Tigerlily here. I started off with a zzr 250 and it was the best little bike for me personally. It was a nice light bike, easy to handle, kind on wrists and due to my short stature I was able to touch the ground.

And Barry it does not have FI. And had you mentioned that before I had owned my first bike I wouldnt have known what the hell you were talking about. Not that we females are stupid but with every male putting his two cents worth in we are continually confronted with conflicting information. So please dont say dont - put forward a good idea with reason and back up. All every much appreciated.

I purchased my first bike ALONE I pumped the Q Ride guy (John) and a friend who owned a motorbike for information (get your mind out of the gutter and finish the sentence) Then went off and bargained like I knew it all.

I kept that bike for 4 years. I bought it off a dealer for $4000 including all on roads, 95' model with 20,000km , I put 25,000km, dropped it twice and sold it scratches and all for $3500.

I have no hesitation in recommending the zzr 250 as a starting bike.

Now see..that is the sort of thing that keeps you in Novice grade Barry!

To my knowledge, none of the currently available crop of 250cc roadbikes are FI. Some motocrossers are...but thats neither here nor there!

Theres a much better choice of second hand bikes, as it seems that most marques are only putting out one 250 entry level offering.

Honda has a 250cc entry level bike that is everything you could need, its plain, its simple, and of course Honda reliable. Not much to look at really though, the CBR125 is a much sexier candidate but 125cc is probably not going to cut it as a weekend tourer.

http://hondampe.com.au/repository/motorcycles/products/road/entry/cbf250-07/introduction.aspx

Yamaha has it's "Scorpio" which is much the same.,

http://www.yamaha-motor.com.au/motor/index.htm?model_cat.asp?modelcatid=17

Suzuki has nothing! Plenty learner appropriate bikes for other than Qld...but no 250cc Roadbike!

That leaves Kwakasaki and the Ninja 250 which in my book leaves the rest for dead! It's the sexiest of the lot, and as a twin gives that low revving torque that learners need. FI in my opinion is of little use to a learner as it can give a "sudden-ness" to throttle that causes more trouble than its worth to a new rider.

It's also a very good time to buy brand new with the $$ the way it is, there will be price increases in the next little while!

Tigerlily is gonna give you a talking too Barry...in future if you want to pooh pooh a ladies choice of bike, you have to give proper reasons like "Colour" seat height, or at least post alternatives.

In the wake of a successful, if under-subscribed, day of practice yesterday,we have decided that as there were many expressions of interest from Ppl who were just too busy at this time of year to participate, that it would be worthwhile doing another one, once the "Silly season" dust has settled.

So, last time that Ulyssian made it an "Event" it mysteriously vanished without a word of explanation from POF admin. In the meantime I cannot see any reason that Ppl cannot (Tentatively) put their names in, so we can get a measure of enthusiasm and numbers right here in a forum thread.
