love,
my happiness transcends all bounds
in morning
when I hear your voice
in boundless joy possess

oh love
for I am lost in your embrace
and survive
for now on your whispered words alone
your voice fills the air I joyfully breathe

an echo
carried on the wind as a reminder,
no a hungry ghost,
composed of careless choices made.
Left undone, they are cast such a cost to fotrtune's gain

voices lost
ignored, by a deafened ear
dismissed
with apathetic shrug and jaundiced eye when with
a moment drawn aside, you might grant graces sublime

guarding
against an offhand act, which might
disfigure or deform
a budding shoot of purest form,
passed by for it's image differs from our own

Pillow Talk

She bows
her face a mask of porcelain
and beckons
no trace of emotion lies beneath
that face of sublime composure

discreet laughter
rises softly as the courtesan's
secrets
are shared in whispered grace
erotic memories of last night's encounters

one word spoken
all it took was a slip of the tongue
a paradigm shift
worlds altered, all is made new again
by a cry whispered almost unknowingly

for now
when I walk, heads turn
pheromones swirl
a silly grin upon my face
oops my dear, my Freudian slip is showing

when magic happens
all is forever changed, metamorphosed
a slip of the tongue
a life re-infused with rampant passion
glowing radiantly in the light of love

The Pocket Watch
Posted: 2/14/2009 5:37:41 AM
He waits,
nervously checking and rechecking his watch.
Will she be there?
Oh,this was such a vast mistake.

He thought I am not ready for this age of instant commication.
What has the computer age done to us.
foolishly hitting a button, send and then nothing
There is no more mystery, we are all defined and accessible.

They brought the computers to the library,
It took him two years to find the courage, to search time and space.
With no expectations, he found her,
another year before he messaged.

She had been his first great love.
A shining memory from a mostly forgotten youth.
They emailed for a bit, too shy to send pictures.
He found that he wanted more, to hear her voice.

And so it began, a nightly journey retracing the past.
It was her idea that they should meet, shyly he agreed.
And so it was, upon this gray day in March he waited.
Checking his watch, calibrating the minutes till she arrived.

Would that love, the longing
rekindled by remote control survive
the passage of the years.
checking his watch yet again he heard the train.

She was coming?
Perhaps, the years melted into seconds
A great screech and the train arrived.
The door opened, and he looked into her eyes.

Smiling now,
he took her hand as she alighted from the train.
no words were needed,
For in their eyes all time had stopped.

And laughingly they strolled away.

I am called to follow,
the night wrapped around me
like a cloak of fine velvet.
Each star a sequin sown by a careful hand.

The Moon reflected in your eyes.
I am called to follow.
Your words echo, these are our memories
look to the stars, I will be there ,

My love shining down on you.

enfolding you ,
covering you with my mantle of love.
You are never alone.
I am with you always.
I am called to follow.

the cello sang
driving my mind deep
into the melody
our bodies rising and falling
in complete unison

our voices echo
a myriad of emotion
yet joined
as the bellezze del canto
sweeps us away in ecstasy

the thunderous applause
is naught but the beating of our hearts
contented in full
joyously spent enfolded in your arms
timeless, eternal and yours

I find you star gazing
in the garden of the Rigden Kings
you are my teacher
and yet you are so much more
I hunger for you in palpable ecstasy

In the hidden city
the lotus blooms at midnight
a myriad of stars
reflected in the water gardens
the universe captured the inky water

the lotus opens
filling the night with its heavy scent
all is magical
my step softly traces the ancient path
faint traces of incense scent the air

I am famine
your embrace only arouses
my ravenous appetite
softly we lie under the waning moon
oblivious to all but our cresting desire

If music is the melody
passion is our counterpointed souls
eternally entwined
the constant interplay of transcendental chords
the divine spark of kundalini fire

Lochinvar

She rests no more upon the hill,
castle walls submerged in brackish green.
The loch has swallowed her whole .

The Faithful Gordon mourns,
Queen Marys most unjust demise,
No longer free to roam her verdant shores.

Lochinvar fair castle rises not
above the shining loch in Galloway's hills,
So sing the bards with angelic voice.

Of echos past laughter rustling through,
the gray green trees and heathery hills
whisper restlessly, yet no one hears.

In your eyes exists
no time or distance to be bridged
matters not the way
your wanderings twist through starlit skies
my hearts' compass marks the well worn day

In your laugh resides
no trace of loss or regrets unspoken
joy rekindles wistfulness
and times passage marks not the hours
that separates us on this earthy plain

In your voice
my world survives intact, alive
all that I do hold sublime
pours forth and echos throughout time
thus preserved circumstantiated in the stars

peace eludes
we look for it every where
playing hide and seek
in the closet, under the bed, where?
nothing there but clouds and lint

slow down listen
inhale, count, watch your breath
complete the circle
feel,the energy grow, rolling
pure light expanding upward

feel the energy flow
root,sacral solar plexus,heart
throat, brow and crown
each expanding effortlessly
balancing eternal joy within

for it is taught
that what we think, we become
the joy we seek
is the song of our inner self
there in the rhythm of our breath

Twelfth Nights' Eve, under the ice moon's stare.
In Badgers Bay the village streets did blaze.
Light the Lamp, uncork the stout,
the Mummer's troupe has staggered out.
Aye, at the Saracen's Head a pint was offered up,
and Just a dram of John Barley Corn gave vigor to the feet
St George did command the way, the others followed suit.
Ushering in the hope of spring on a cold, cold winters' night.
Winding through the village streets the battle pitched it's way.
Listen close, open yea doors. The Mummers be about!

Truth Rosie, wow great writes, and oh I miss Witch Hazel flowers in February in Ct, alas not here when all spring squeeze into two weeks daffodils, lilacs, forsythia, all at once in a great jumble of color, until the land is covered again in fog, only the lupines and foxfire thrive, until fall and the land creeps out again, the light like fresh cream, the marshes and maples vivid shades of red and brown, Rowan and fir, apples falling off trees and rose hips the size of oranges and the sea, oh shit I do love it here in my adopted land of fog and wind, hmm I think I have a poem working here and I love you two very much

Re Mystics comment,
Kilgo is not just season, but also place or time, Tanka predates Haiku by over 1000 years and Kilgo applies in both formats, tanka was often used to deliver love letters
so the kilgo would have held valibul hints to the lovers.

this wass an excersie, writing an answere to a old Tank/a. this poem was written around 912, I think years before the advent of Haiku an new form in the first poem the kilgo is the moon, not the mountain meaning at night, or when the moon rises so does he,

A secret it is, but
When I feel love rise,
From leg wearying
Mountains, the moon
Sets out, and so do I.

written by Ki no Tsurayuki

Our secret
Passion shared by two
A tryst
Under a canopy of stars
nothing is hidden from the moon

my response

as for syllables count, the count is not the most important part, if we were writing in Japanese, the syllables would make more sense , a contemporary or English Tanka and Haiku but even in the original language the count differs. the verse is judges more in a short/long/short/long/long verse pattern also in Haikuthe poem is supposes to be about two different things, joined by the central or pivot line Haiku is nature based a senryu is more about emotions, there are many versions pf eastern poetry form, this is supposed to be fun, I may not be here all that often, but I do read my thread every days, I answered questions asked, if you (anyone) have a problem with my definition try posting it with out sounding condescending, and be correct please

there are specific tanka formats both modern and traditional that you should be able to
read the upper verses and the lower verses as two separate poems, the 2nd short line is the pivot and you should also have a kilgo which tells the reader when or where the poem is set

Raven-like stood he
fingering his well worn rosary.
His usually immaculate cassock rumpled, stained mahogany red.
His cincture and Pectoral Cross, cast away embedded in the dust.
Looking down,
he saw his biretta and cape laying discarded.
No, not discarded.

It was mounded, softly cradeling the outline of a body visible beneath it's folds.
Who can it be? Brother Gabriel? Father Campion?
The cape once more covering anothercasualty in the battle for human dignity.

For what, this Latin American Liberation Theology?

Clawed back soul by soul, sctratched from this wasted land.

Shunned by the mother Church, still toileing to tend her flock.

Why, what good, a nother Jesuit dead,

And they, the butt of jokes by ignorant men,

still we fight for basic human rights.
How many of his brothers have been martyred on these bloody streets?
Now here lays yet another victim to chaos that is life in the heart of poverty.
Peru, Brazil, El Salvador. how many more, Lord, how many more?
Must die, for what? Clean water, decent food. a place to sleep.
Drawn now from contemplation, he looks up.
Multitudes swarm around him, each craning for a better view.
Jostling, crying, stunned and wounded,
clotted against the chapels doors.
Scanning the assembled faces,
stained with tears and horror.
he sees,
one serene vision.
To his astonished eyes, it was her,
The Madonna Della Strada, Our Lady of the Streets.

My Patroness, Here?
How can this be?

But she is there,
shining like a star amidst a murder of crows.
Turning her head she beckones him to follow.
Slowly, he begins to understand,
Is that me? No it can not be,
Ah, but my Lady's presence here must suffice.
Today, it was my turn.they came for me during Benediction.
Now remembering, the doors bursting open,
They came in with weapons locked and loaded,
The Monstrance, lying open cast upon the floor.
The Chapel, that should has resounded with strains of Adoration
rang with shouts and frightened cries
the few elderly parishioners rounded up
and herded out onto the dusty street.
He remembered walking out,
the pressure of cold steel against his back,
then nothing,
Looking around, he saw she was still there,
Nodding she beckoned him to follow.

Once more he looked at the lifeless form on the street.
Yes, it is for me they mourn.
Searching , he found her waiting.
I am coming my Lady, coming .
Their footfalls silently threading through the growing crowds.

She can hear them now.
The crowds,
stirring,
The smell of urine,
unwashed bodies and stale wine.

The animals are getting anxious.
Lion and leopard pace.
All is in motion,
her hand holds
the crumpled parchment.

Opening it,

her heart tears.
Oh,please my love.

Not tonight,

do not match

us tonight.

The ink has blurred.
Her tears blending and
loosing the line.
The message rings clear.
Imprinted

no, branded to her soul.

Olivia:

My shining star.
The Emperor

has promised our freedom
if victorious today.
Courage.

Do not fail me now.

I have begged Flavious
to call you not today.
It is my right,
I fear his word is false.
Caution , my love,
do not fight.

If we are paired,

take my life.
You will be freed.
Leave me not a cowards death .
Take my heart,

you own my soul.

Marcus

The executions have begun,
the screams of the criminals
rise higher choking,
the crowds clamor.
they haves little interest,
preferring not their tainted fear.

There is no time
for reply.
The Letter

She can hear them
approach.
Her Helmet
and sword ready.

She walks,
the corridor rank with death.
Heart racing , who is her opponent?
She can not see.
The sun blinding all,

after the dark within.

She steps into the arena,
Silently muttering.
Oh mighty Anubis,

Swift Mercury
come to my aide.
let it not be him..................

Autumn's song whispers
blessings floating on the wind
soft, my lover calls
kisses like breezes caress
I wear his passion like pearls

Colors of my love
Rose touched skin against silver
flesh and blood alive
Ice and stone touching heaven
Star-shine captured in his eyes

Off to find lost time
I no longer second guess
My wandering one
Where the stardust in his shoes
Lures him on to touch the sky

Content for now, I
Watch the skies where Mizer shines
Vincent’s Starry Night
Topsy-turvy shines as two

now remembering
the afternoon we first met
your eyes held me fast
I was afraid a little bit
your laugh set the room ablaze

I was lost then
we walked the pasture and wood
down on to the quay
the air heavy with salt spray
you danced me out upon the rocks

afternoon faded
returning from the sea laughingly
drinking fine red wine
the hours pass swiftly on
knowing that when next we met

my solitary years
were remnants of the past
awake now with a kiss
our meetings passing swift
each one brings a greater gifts

kelp crowns her head
swimming like Medusa's hair
tethered rock bound
winters furies fly unleashed
marooned unable to escape

Namaste Rewritten

If love never does any thing more,
then to get us to look, really look at who we are.
Then that is enough, I think, at least for today.
But I am a greedy soul,
prowling in the world of sentient beings.

For not having tasted passion for so long.
this short coarse is not enough.
Namaste,
I open my heart,
and for all my life
I can not batten it back together.

You told me not to be sad when you left,
but to be happy that it was.
I did not understand.
Summer had taken on that childhood glaze
of unnumbered days and star filled nights.

Now December winds howl their arias.
summer is a distant memory,
wrapped in wax paper and pressed like ancient spring violets
in my Mother's family bible.
Safely secreted, never to be forgotten, alive with each turning of the page.

I, listen for your voice,
echoed in the wind.
Happy that it was, still I dream...
when the loon's call rises from the lake
you will return to me.

You tell me listen, hear the wind.
Lungta. grounded windhorse
calls to me from the high mountains,
to my secluded shore and rockbound sea.
Listen! Can you hear, my love a precious jewel in flight...

Namaste,
how one word can change a life?
For in the act of opening my heart,
not only did I find love
I found life.

Namaste
