just need the recipe to make the base fondant....... i like to experiment with the flavors and colorings on my own lol ( kids love it cause they get to taste test all my experiments lol)

Dinner in under 30 minutes
Posted: 1/15/2009 8:59:11 PM
oops forgot to mention this is almost like a alfredo sauce you are putting into the pasta

so i guess it's a chicken fettecini alfredo with baby peas lol
and it's easy enough my 16 yr old son has been making it since he was 12 (at that age i would cut the chicken tho) and he thought himself a gormet cook making it lol

Dinner in under 30 minutes
Posted: 1/15/2009 8:56:12 PM
I sometimes just cut up a little chicken breast and put into fry pan or wok after heating a little oil and fresh or minced(jarred) garlic fry it up and as it is frying in a medium pot i boil either fettecini , shells or vegetable rotini.... after it's finished i drain it and add cream or can milk, butter and parmesan cheese (i find only kraft works well not the no name stuff) and mix till it is creamy adding more cream or parmesan as you like..... then i toss in a few frozen peas, heat for a few more minutes stirring constantly.... then top with the garlic fried chicken ..... and yes all this takes about 30 min maybe a little more depeding on how many ppl you are feeding ..... mine is usually for 4 ppl
and with something like this a side of ceasar salad goes well :)

Anyone alone today for Christmas Dinner?
Posted: 12/19/2008 7:23:27 PM
This is second year away from my home town... i'm used to hosting the big xmas dinners from turkey down to pie. The first year I moved to kingston my brother came down to spend xmas with me and i had 3 kids at home as well.
This year it just doesn't feel like christmas even more than last year as it will be just me and my 7 yr old and 16 yr old boys. They don't care whether i cook a turkey or not as long as i make the pumpkin pie.... so i just bought a tiny ham for dinner for xmas.
Christmas just doesn't seem like Christmas without family and friends. Same for new years i'll prolly be doing the same thing new years as i am for xmas NOTHING lol
next year things will change...... gotta keep hoping for the best :)
Merry christmas everyone and happy new year :)

how to help children deal with death of a parent
Posted: 6/12/2008 7:46:07 PM
Thank you for your post supermom :)
and sorry for your childrens loss as well .
I'm hoping that this summer that they will be spending with thier fathers family may help them a bit... they may believe what his family says about their dads feelings for the kids more than if it came from me ....
I'm also going to make a memory book of all the pictures i have of them and thier dad ... kind of a reminder of how happy they all were together and that he loved them. I'll also be including any stories (the good ones of course) to go with any of the pictures that have stories with them .....
It will also be something they can show thier children when they get older and they can share the stories of thier grandpa with thier kids.
the scrapbook (which will be also in cd format) was kind of the grandmothers idea. the cd format i'm also going to include home videos of them.
again thank you for the post :)

Healthy Daycare Lunch Ideas
Posted: 6/11/2008 1:39:56 PM
my kids like packing lots of stuff other than sandwhiches... makes thier lunch look big but gives them choices of what to eat etc..

crackers and cheese (wheat thins or something and just chunk up some cheese)

pita bread instead of sandwich bread and make rolled up sandwhichs with ham and cheese, or turkey and lettuce etc...

or those stuffable pitas where you just stuff the inside of them ...

make toasted pizzas in morning (sliced bread spread with sauce, i buy the kind in the squeeze bottle, and ham/pepperoni/bologna pieces then put either shredded cheese or sliced processed cheese then toast in oven or toaster oven till cheese melts then pack in sandwhich container. most kids don't care if thier pizza is cold lol

if you send any kind of mayo type stuff (tuna salad etc...) good idea to freeze their juice boxes or water bottles will help keep the food cool and prevent spoiling

raisins mixed with cereals (like shreddies, puffed wheat, puffed rice) sometimes would also add a bit of shredded coconut

rice cakes with cheese whiz

You didn't say how old your children are so the next idea may not work if they are real young.... my 7yr old has no problem handling these next suggestions..... but they need to be taught that the water will still be hot and give them a plastic fork so they fish the hotdogs out without burning themselves.

you can make hotdogs too..... if you have a thermos pre heat it with hot water ... then dump and add boiling water and the wieners... by lunch time they are nice and puffy then put buns on the side....
this also works with the mr. noodles

stupid question .... but why no carrots? does that include things like celery sticks etc?

these are just what i can think of right now but my kids love these things...

You didn't say how he died?

I did a few posts after my original one
it was an accident .... totally unexpected... as far as i know he fell down the stairs... the how he fell i don't know .... they (his family/wife) doesn't want to talk about the how ... just that he is gone... they say it doesn't matter how
I guess maybe someday I may know but right now i don't ... so i can't even answer those questions .... even tho the kids have been speculating about what he may have been doing to cause the fall etc... but i can't confirm any of their speculations.

How is your (and your children's) relationship with his widow; after some time maybe she could help to shed a little light on the situation.

I haven't spoken to her in quite a few years.... and i wouldn't know what to say to her right now she is taking his death real hard and i fear that i may no longer be welcomed as i once was since i have no more connection to her.

I do talk to the kids grandmother (on fathers side) on a regular basis we have always had a great relationship ... in fact she has invited all 3 of my kids to the farm for the summer .... my oldest boy will be working so he will be gone the whole summer, and my daughter and even my youngest who doesn't share the same father will be going for a month.
I'm hoping that maybe if my older two spend time with his family then maybe it will help. and it may even help the grandparents with their feelings and healing etc..

thanks
I've asked for councelling however my oldest of the two says he doesn't want it and is refusing to go says he is fine with everything .... however what I'm seeing is that is a little more withdrawn than usual (used to play alot on puter or ps2 and hasn't touched it since the funeral), he also is pulling alot of rebelling stuff such at talking back, fighting with his siblings and just completely disrespecting me all of which is completely out of character for him...
my daughter is exactly the way she was before..... which is worrying me a bit.. she was a rock at his funeral....she won't talk about him, hasn't cried or anything she has shown no feelings about his death at all...... i'm really worried what's going to happen when and if it hits...

FYI people who voted this a pity...... it isn't for pity i'm trying to find people i can relate to for information not for pity ..... I don't want pity I want real information that comes from real people.....

how to help children deal with death of a parent
Posted: 6/10/2008 9:21:33 PM
Recently (May 17) two of my older children lost thier father, we haven't been together for 13 yrs and he was married to someone else for 11. The kids did spend one month almost every summer for last 10 yrs and also periodically during the year (holidays or if he was at this end of the country) we had a good relationship for most of those 13 yrs for the kids sake.... but the past 3 yrs were really not good at all.
Now my 15 yr old boy and 13 yr old girl have lost thier father and alot of things were left unmended emotionally for the kids. Over the past couple of years he said and did alot of hurtful things to both myself and kids or to me in front of the kids that the kids now have mixed feelings about .... they seem really confused about how to deal with his death. The problem is I'm not even sure how to deal with it myself... like I said we had a good talking relationship and up until a couple of years ago he was very helpful to me personally and to the kids (he paid my tuition for school back in 98 saying that my education was benificial to my kids so that is why he was helping) but then everything turned and he became hurtful and long story short there was a long custody battle that ended a year ago and even though i was being reasonable with access etc.... "reasonable access with reasonable notice and summers" he decided he didn't want any access at all ...... this also hurt the kids ALOT.
I think that is part of what is confusing the kids most is they don't know how he really felt about them..... i've tried to tell them he loved them but it's not the same if it's not coming from him and unfortunetly (sp? lol) he can't tell them now....
The best I've been able to do for them is just listen if and when they wanna talk and tell them that I believe he loved them and let them know that i'm still there for them and that I love them.

If anyone else has ever been in this situation please feel free to let me know how you managed to help your children....

Also if you can tell me signs to watch for , for things like depression etc... like how long till either the actual greiving starts or for how long it lasts when it does.....
thanks for listening :) may have sounded a bit like a rant but i'm not real good at writing my thoughts down clearly lol

How Old is Old Enough to Walk home from School Alone ??
Posted: 9/9/2006 1:23:40 PM
I don't know about the law where you live but here in Ontario a child cannot be left home alone under 10 yrs of age.... and at 10 they can be left home alone (not with other kids) for only a few hours.... at 12 they can start babysitting.

Pets

this may sound wierd ..... and i guess they wouldn't really be pets but.. i've always wanted to have a wild animal rescue .. that way i could get all kinds of animals.... porcupines, skunks, raccoons, bears, rabbits, foxes, moose, deer, all those wild critters :) i would get to love and raise and nurse them and then watch them go back to the wild :) unless they wanted to stay around and kept coming back then i guess they would be a pet lol

TMJ
Posted: 8/13/2006 6:09:53 PM
Yep alot of ppl may not know what tmj is tho (Trans Mandibular Joint Disfunction) I usually just say arthritis in the jaw joint LOL just so they have an idea what it is

It drives me nuts sometimes where i can't even eat cause the darn clicking is soooooo loud it gives me a headache ....... and sometimes my jaw locks and is quite painful and seems swollen so that my teeth come down crooked when i close my mouth.... I've had this problem since i had my 2 top wisdom teeth out in my early 20's also I think because around that same time i started clenching all the time .. so hard at times i've broken a few teeth in my sleep .... it's frustrating and painful....

tylenol or ibuprophen help and so does holding hot/warm liquid in your cheeks for a few minutes sometimes relieves the pain better than applying heat from the outside of your mouth....

Perogies
Posted: 8/13/2006 6:01:47 PM
I like to boil my frozen perogies usually.... and then while they are still hot i top them with shredded cheese and real bacon bits and then if you like you can dip in sour cream.

I also make them from scratch which is my favorite..... the are 1000 times better than frozen and if you want you can freeze them for a later date... and boil and fry or whatever....

Here is my recipe http://cooksncrafts.8m.com/Recipes/perogies.html
just copy and paste the whole addy or you end up bombarded with popup ads :( sorry to say I use the free sites till i finally decide on a paid one (coming soon I hope) If you have a popup blocker and are looking for other recipes feel free to explore.

Do they sell Jiffy Mix in Canada
Posted: 8/12/2006 9:06:43 PM
I've never seen it either up here...... I make cornbread (also called Johnny Cake here) or muffins from scratch using purity cornmeal and the recipe that comes on the bag/box.

guess it's like Jimmy Dean sausage..... can't find it here :( it's the best sausage I know of for making white gravy ... for busicuts and gravy :) Only sausage i can find here in the roll is Maple Leaf and it is sooooo yucky you have to salt and pepper the crap out of it to get any kind of flavour.

12 year old babysitter
Posted: 8/12/2006 3:36:12 PM
The law here in Ontario is ..... 10 yrs old they can be left alone not with other children tho and 12yrs old they can be left with other children(babysitting)

I started letting my son babysit my youngest boy but would never leave him with my daughter when my oldest boy was 12.... In a sence it was good cause then I could get some mother/daughter time....

I would never leave my daughter who is now 11 almost 12 with my 5 1/2 yr old boy because she is tempermental and freaks at the littlest of things and I don't think I could trust her just yet may not until she is 14-16

My oldest boy loves kids and is very responsible and follows the rules... he even volunteers with the younger classes at school and will play with all the neighborhood kids regardless of how old they are when they ask him to...... He loves to babysit my youngest boy and will "tell" me and my daughter to go shopping or something so they can have thier "Boy time" ...... they have things to do that they save for just the "boy time" nights ...... movies and popcorn, video games, or even just surprising me with cleaning....

How I tested my son was first i left him alone a few times to see how he was then it would be both sons for short little errands to the store or something so they were alone for maybe only 20 min max then after he proved himself then maybe 1 hr and now we are at the point when my daughter goes to cadets on friday nights from 6 till 9 I can finally have some "ME" time.... go for coffee, do some shopping, or visit a friends.... My oldest is sooo good with my youngest and my youngest listens sooo well to him .... heck he listens to my oldest boy better than he listens to me LOL
I have a cell phone and if he ever needs me i'm a call away and only minutes from home usually which i think eases my worries about them alone :)

My boy is going to make a great father someday (altho he says he's never going to have kids lol he's young his mind will change Just like he still isn't "into" girls yet .... tells me he's more interested in future right now ....... i'm sooo proud that he's got such a good head on his shoulders )

Bernard Lake - Sunridge
Champlain tent and trailer park - North Bay

just thought i'd add a couple more to your list

Out of those two I liked the campground at Bernard Lake the best sooo much to do for the whole family.... kids are out of your hair 2 times a day everyday :) they have about 1 1/2 hr in afternoon of supervised activities for the kids to do without parents around and then after supper time they have a 1/2 -45 min tractor ride around this enormous park with or without parents.... then 7pm it's family time in the rec hall either dancing, games, karaoke, potluck dinners, bingo, golf in thier mini putt area .... etc.. etc.. and the price was real good too.... the beach is clean and lake is nice for swimming (only prob i had was that there was no docks to fish off anywhere around the lake :( you have to rent a boat and that's where the costs start coming in)

Champlain tent and trailer park here in north bay is also nice and priced nicely too and there is a beach and large park area right next door to the park and also you can fish right off the shores of the lavase river right there..... if you have seen my profile that northern pike was caught right there in the river aswell as bass, catfish, pickeral and perch.

Misunderstandings over 'Separated'
Posted: 8/12/2006 2:13:54 PM
I have stated seperated on my profile.... but there is no hope of reconciliation (sp?) as he took off back to the USA about 46 hr drive from me and he said "I"m never coming back to canada again your country sucks"
As for getting a divorce.... I can't afford it yet and he can't afford it and it's a little more complicated when you both live in seperate countries. My sister married an american and I've seen how long and complicated and costly it can get in order to get a divorce.
We have all the other legal things all worked out already (custody, support, property etc...)

In my heart I'm completely single the rest is just paperwork.... took me about a year to get to that point but I have arrived and have felt completely single for about a year now

I'm not sure yet if i have sitter ....... everyon i've asked so far has hmmmed and hawed but i haven't quit looking ...... it's my last weekend before I get my oldest two kids back from a month with thier dad..... just need a sitter for my 5yr old and some of the ppl I asked want to come with me to the POF party so they don't wanna babysit :( ....... my prob is most of my sitters i had before i got married in 99 have moved away and since i've been seperated I haven't needed one as i was too busy to go out ..... so i have very few choices :(
But i put name on list being Optimistic that i WILL find one some how some way LOL

Also the other reason is i prefer a babysitter that will keep him over night..... I haven't drank in quite a while and not sure if i will or not but just in case it's easier if the he sleeps over somewheres.... I'm actually quite picky when it comes to sitters for my kids I don't trust just anyone...

Here's hoping i get one...

yes I mean literally as you can see by one of my pics lol....... even before i got married (was single for 4 yrs before meeting my x) i would spend my friday nights on the dock fishing my friends told me i was crazy..... that i was single i should be out in the bars having fun.... sorry atleast fishing i was catching something i enjoyed LOL

You also said your creative, what types of stuff do you create? Art?

creative means alot of things.... i'm imaginative..... i can "McGuiver" alot of things out of nothing LOL also i knit, sew, crochet, wood working, invent things, write poetry and songs, photos and computer graphics and much much more....

But as i said the pic is what you are presenting so get a pic of you and your kids up so it is apparent and visable b/c we know that some guys cannot read to begin with...

I don't believe in posting pics of my kids sorry.... if i am talking to someone for a while then maybe i would privately send a pic but as for publicly placing my pic i won't do that.

I read each and every profile sometimes 2 or 3 times .... if they didn't write a profile .... well i go on to the next not worth it....

My profile may not be perfect but it's truthful and at least i have a profile up.

favourites... something different.
Posted: 8/9/2006 10:28:12 PM
With my kids...... I take them fishing and to the park (usually i fish they play lol) if it's nice out.... if it's rainy or winter we watch movies together or we party.... we crank up all our favorite tunes and chow down on chips and pop and icecream or we turn on the karaoke machine and go crazy .... (couldn't do that when i was married..... we were too noisy ... darn party poopers lol) and money permitting we may go camping for a week or so....

When I am kidless I catch up on house work.... go fishing.... read a book or fix the kids computer that keeps breaking down... and since the big storm here in north bay it's really in need of a good fixing.... lol

I don't get many evenings alone I usually am stuck with atleast one kid.... but daytimes are mine during school year when i'm not at the school library volunteering or driving friends and family around.

Do you guys actually fully read the profiles????
Posted: 8/9/2006 10:16:45 PM
I am beginning to wonder whether or not alot of the guys on here actually read the womans profile before making contact ? or do they look at pic and decide hey looks good and that's that?

there are many hints in a person's profile that will tell you whether or not you should even try to contact......

at the bottom of a persons profile it says who can / can not contact a woman......

i have it listed
younger than 50
Live in Canada
Must not be looking for Short-Term
Must not be looking for Talk/E-mail
Must not be looking for Photo Exchange
Must not be looking for Other Relationship
Must not be looking for Intimate Encounter
Must not be married

BUT yet i get chat/emails from those guys who list as long term and when they contact me they want only intimate incounters or photo exchange or whatever else i have listed as "not be looking for"

I also state in my profile as live in canada and preferably Ontario.... yet i'm getting emails/chats from USA and across seas ....

and when i mention i have kids they are like oh didn't know...... well the first line on my profile is "I'm a mother of 3."
so that only proves they didn't even get past the first line of my profile ..... then they get mad and wonder why i shot them down right quick........ I ask them didn't ya read my profile and they are like "duh i guess not"

ok guys ...... please tell me do you read them or just go by the pics etc????

Mosquito Bites
Posted: 8/9/2006 7:38:15 PM
My son is allergic to mosquitos ...... I give him benidryl which takes down both the swelling and takes out the itching but until the meds kick in we throw on diaper cream such as Zincofax and all my kids swear it really helps with taking the itch out almost instantly..... it also works real good if you get a case of swimmers itch which is quite common here in North bay Lake Nipissing.

Carmel or Taffy Apples
Posted: 8/9/2006 7:22:33 PM
the easiest way to make caramel apples it to get either a bag of those camamel squares and heat in double boiler or on defrost in the micro at 20 second intervals stirring between each interval..... or you can goto a bulk store and buy a large chunk of carmel ( i use these to make my "turtles" chocolates) it's easier than unwrapping each little caramel LOL

if you want nuts then have a plate or pasta bowl filled with chopped nuts and roll the apple into it while the caramel is still warm.

to add chocolate after .... best to do it once the carmel apple is cooled and then warm the chocolate the same way you did the carmel and dip....... if you do it while the apples/caramel is still warm you may have a problem with the caramel/nuts falling off into the chocolate and not getting a good coating on the apple.

I dont much care for boiled eggs myself but I do like them deviled

oh man ....... now I have a craving for deviled eggs LOL

gone to boil eggs LOL

How do you all make them out of curiousity?

i whip the yokes with miracle whip and a touch of mustard then add finely chopped onion and salt and pepper to taste then after filling the eggs and they are on the tray I sprinkle all of them with paprika till it looks pretty then if I have fresh parsley i put a small sprig on the top of each egg....

can guys and girls just be close friends or do they all secretly want to fuck you?
Posted: 8/9/2006 6:44:12 PM
I don't think all male friends think about it...... when i was younger I had alot of male friends... mostly because I was a tomboy and still am to a point ( i do still like to dress up etc... and do alot of "female stereotypical things") I like woodworking, autobody, fishing, construction and have worked in those areas.... I was such good friends with the guys that alot of times they would forget i was a girl/woman ...... we'd be outside at work and one of them would nudge me after a girl rides by on a bike and say something like "man wouldn't you like to be the seat on that bike" or we'd be out at the bar and one would ask me to check out the "knockers " on some girl....... most times i would sit there thinking to myself " what am i chopped liver" LOL but I didn't really mind cause I seemed to have alot more in common with the guys than most girls because of my intrests/work/hobbies. When I would hang out with my female friends I found that we had very little to talk about .... other than Men and maybe shopping.

Why do men stare at womens boobs & think we don't notice ???
Posted: 8/9/2006 6:17:30 PM
I always thought of making a tee shirt with a pair of eyes on them...... that way i can say the guy i'm talking to would be looking into my eyes cause it prolly wouldn't happen any other way!!!!
