Surely there's an underwriter out there that would cover this type of situation for not alot, if any, extra cost to the vendor. Why should his lack of insurance cover be passed on, if he could have just passed on the premium in the first place? This can't be the first time it's happened. What do other car rental companies do?

is not being a sports fanatic a drawback
Posted: 1/9/2009 1:28:10 AM
Well I couldn't tell you who won the premiership...of any code. Used to play..used to watch it some to...but that was in another life. I've moved on. There is so much more to life than footy in winter and cricket in summer. I find lots of ladies aren't that interested in either of those sports either. Maybe some are into netball and my all time favourite..beach volleyball . Now THAT is a sport that would be played in heaven.

The granite is a marvellous idea. Couldn't think of anything better. However, if the cost is a little daunting you can get very nice "granite look" bathroom laminate for probably a fraction of the price. It's also quite durable. Have some myself, since I couldn't afford the real thing and after 6 years it's still like brand new! Just vist any cabinet making joinery and they should be able to set you up. Cheers.

We,the little people...
Posted: 1/6/2009 1:07:25 AM
Hey TD. This subject matter has crossed my mind more than once. But when celebrities are involved, I guess it's all just too surreal for the ordinary person to contemplate. Myself included, because I can't say I know any celebrities personally.

One other recent, less disturbing incident comes to my mind. Nicole Kidman's €2.5m yacht moored at the Walsh Bay development in Sydney a year after she moved out. I guess she has been busy with Sunday Rose and being un/pregnant in Nashville. If you or I left a car behind in that estate, it would probably be towed within 3 days. Especially my ute, it would be lucky to last one and the scap metal dealer would get the job.

Then you hear of celebrities getting pulled for speeding and "told to slow down" ?? Sorry I can't give any names at the moment, but I know I've read it more than a few times..WTF is up with that?! A speeding fine will effect their multi million dollar career? I don't think so. Yet the little guy gets stung for half the mortgage if he's lucky, or even has to change jobs or residence because he loses his licence. They can also enter an establishment to buy a meal.. "oh your Mathew McConaughey, or Russel Crow".. the meal is on the house! Well that's great. I'm sure they were really hungry and that business will be booming for years after they're gone. Just the way it is I guess, when your reputation is held in high esteem. Like royalty I suppose. But is it their fault? Not really. It's all the pathetic boot lickers that fall over themselves to do them favours they hardly need or deserve.

The Ron Barrassi case is unfortunate in many ways. Here's an elderly guy, sticking up for a woman being assaulted. Then subsequently gets severly assaulted himself. It's a high profile case, so the police do the correct amount of boot licking ( at least verbally) and they look great as usual in the media. They will pull out all stops, because when the perps are caught, it will be splashed all over the national news and they will have done an excellent job and our tax dollars will once again well spent...for a celebrity.

On another note , for an AFL celebrity, as much as Warwick Capper might be known as a narcissistic ponce or whatever, I'll always admire him for going broke and getting a job as a stop and go man. He wasn't taking handouts from anyone..well til word got out anyway.

Summer secrets.

I drive down the end of my street and up the hill there's a really steep sealed road that leads to a phone tower, from there there's about a 2.5 km track that meanders along a spur out from the range here. It's an amazing view , really secluded and I go for a run along there a couple times a week. Should go every day, but if you've been on your feet all day who needs it? Anyway, I usually walk down the steep sections and run up them on the way back. I'm a bit of a mountain goat like that and used go cross country a bit when I was living (further) out in the sticks. I'd take the dogs with me (Wiggy and Wok.. Shitzus..yeah weird farm dogs I know) and they'd take care of any snakes, or at least alert me. Anyway, the real reason I do that, is so I don't have to be seen in public huffing and puffing like I'm about to go into cardiac arrest and if I do, well I wont be imposing on any strangers to give me CPR. Just the type of guy I am. I'm sure the neighbors think I've got a crop growing up there or something. But there are a few grass trees I've got my eye on.

Is Liking cars, video games, and gory films a turn off to guys?
Posted: 12/22/2008 9:41:16 PM
I've actually never known a girl who was into video games. I've known chicks that would complete a huge jigsaw puzzle before playing video games. Which leads me to the question as to why they would buy a jigsaw puzzle.. Maybe it was because I was playing video games. It is fun and it's a great way to relax, but personaly I wouldn't advertise it. It's a fairly non constructive way to spend your time. Which reminds me, I need to get off this computer now. Good luck.

People do this all the time in bad relationships. It doesn't necessarily mean the relationship will turn bad because of it, rather it is already on the rocks and they're looking for a safe exit. On the other hand, some people just like the extra attention to justify their high opinion of themselves. ie; They suck!

Was he kissing you, or were you kissing him? Your a back-burner for sure. Don't dwell on it. Sometimes obviously, it takes more than a makeout session to fall for a woman. It doesn't necessarily have alot to do with you either. Could be a myriad of reasons why your not a high scorer. Think about the last time you were making out with a guy that you probably weren't that into, but you did it anyway.

Can't help but be suspicious about anyone with their hand in your pocket Naahmah. I recentley went for a medical and the Doc refered me to the pathology clinic next door for tests, even though I'd only recently had some done and cleared, saying everything else everything was "perfect". She never used to say that when I was cleaning her humungous swimming pool. Bah..charged her for a vacuum anyway.

The threat of fundamentalist Islam
Posted: 11/27/2008 8:29:50 PM
Well your room mate wasn't kidding about India was he? 125 dead and counting in Mumbai, hundreds injured as more details come available about the perpetrators allegedly being from Pakistan.

All aimed at people like you and me, again being in an area that they won't tolerate us being. But what's new about this, They've chosen an area that's not traditionally an islamist state to drive westerners from. They 're obviously moving to gain some ground with this lot.

It's again putting the focus on what is going on and being accepted in our own backyard. You have to say, with goings on of these proportions, in the name of one religion, having even a"peaceful" Islamic community in our midst, has put most non muslims just a little on edge. If you aren't, then I congratulate you on your tolerance and hope to gain more understanding as to why we shouldn't be concerned. There's potential for some serious social disruption here, to put it lightly, right under our noses. My guess is that 's what they (the fundamentalists) would want eventually. So what do we do about it now?

Like msg#4 said, she has touble developing new relationships, like most of us here..hehe ..and has given into the temptation and convenience of what's on offer. what is with petrol prices?
Posted: 11/19/2008 7:47:26 PM
What's with shopper dockets? The supermarkets that give them out have more expensive groceries and the fuel suppliers aren't exactly the cheapest to begin with.. I don't get it..

I paid 102.9 on tuesday at an independant..and would you believe I left my wallet at home? Don't worry, I went back for more later.

Not sure what's going on. Prices are plummeting and everyone is putting for sale signs on their Landcruisers. Think maybe there's something happening so auto makers can clear some stock?

What is with the photo-shopping mentality???????
Posted: 11/18/2008 9:19:26 PM
Oh boy do I agree with you more than you know! The first thing I do when a guy asks if I have a picture is hit the delete button. Would much rather have a guy interested in my mind than my body. Honestly if a guy is concerned about what I look like and needs to see a picture first then he is definitely not the guy I want to be with. Shallowness is not a good quality and that is all that you are showing when you ask for pictures. And seriously if that is a requirement then don't bother sending the email in the first place and wasting your time!

I'm guessing you're no beauty queen then? lol Are you serious? People go to the trouble of actually putting themselves "out there" on a public free dating site and you are too lousy to oblige a private picture of your person? You can't escape who you are you know. Just because someone wants to see you does not make them shallow.

From what I understand, all arabic and other muslim countries want what was known as the old Ottoman Empire reinstated. A reunification that would make them a world power by sheer numbers to rival China, with control of most of the world's oil. A "Pan Islamic Super State". PISS. Can't wait.

Water - so precious - what choice do we have?
Posted: 11/17/2008 5:10:17 AM
Originally I was all for the recycled water thing. Living in Poowoomba myself, I knew towns west of here were actually getting water that had been treated at our effluent plant anyway. Having stayed in those towns for work, I was drinking the water. But I couldn't wait to get to work the next day where I knew the drinking water was carted in and a whole lot better. Working around powerstations with super heated steam boilers, you get an idea of the quality water can be purified to. Basically so "clean", that it's not really drinkable believe it or not. But that isn't really a process that would apply to what our councils would be willing to do.

In one of my other failed careers, I was working a job that required the occassional lifting of sewer main lids. I can tell you, from that first day on, I had a whole new appreciation of where recycled water came from. Even though I knew that it was practiced all over the world in many major cities, I would have prefered one of those "Still suits" from the movie Dune. You know the ones where they process the wearer's perspiration and body waste back into drinking water?

Anyway, I'm pretty happy with my tankwater and have only had to buy in once in the last 6 years, thanks to the extra tank I put on the shed. It's great. You can filter it, you know where it comes from and if it rains, like it is here right now, you can even have a bath.

AMERICAN ECONOMIC MELTDOWN
Posted: 11/17/2008 2:19:19 AM
Who would have thought the US fed reserve even had 700 billion up their sleeve?.. They must be counting on a bumper crop of something somewhere. It's a pity more banks weren't government run instead of screwing us at every turn...Well that's assuming the government isn't screwing us at every turn and is about actually providing "service" for the taxpayer, like the good old days. You know when Telecom was running at a loss like it was supposed to, instead of paying Sol Trujillo the GDP of Botswanna to spend on his amigos back home.

Anyhow the sub prime mortgage thing is a good lesson to be learnt. If you buy something at an inflated price, you aint necessarily gonna sell it at an inflated price. May as well sit it out for a decade or so.
And they said real estate would never go down...lol

A sense of style scores pretty highly with me. It's a shame more women don't watch that show "What Not To Wear". Wouldn't it be nice to just be able to tell somone, "You need some colour in your hair, those shoes are foul and your makeup makes you look like a clown...who moonlights as a witch..a scary one"..lol The trick is finding someone with a sense of style that reckon's mine is up to scratch.

Can we accept those flaws in ourselves that can be seen as just not cricket??
Posted: 11/14/2008 9:20:32 PM
We can't stop people making assumptions about us and try as we might to explain our situation, there are so many underlying variables that sometimes I don't even understand my own. If you feel misunderstood, I'd say you are. Really, who can make a valued judgement of anybody's situation in life on face value? Noone! But people do aaaaall the time and even make a hobby of it. Sometimes you really feel the need to explain yourself better, with all the little incidents and occurances that have led up to just one point in your life. But why? The assumptions will still be made and explainations can be taken on board as "just making excuses". Just do what you know is right for you and yours and you'll silence the peanut gallery and earn their respect. People will always judge you regardless. However life goes on.

People who jump from one relationship to another
Posted: 11/14/2008 7:05:17 PM
Yup. It's usually the one with the wandering eye, that constantly needs to feel validated by being lusted after by the opposite sex. A little bit narcissistic..or a lot. Usually not a very enjoyable date in public, for the fact they are either being ogled by most passing strangers, which I guess must be addictive, or they are making eyes over your shoulder at someone at the bar. They will usually have any amount of potential suitors at any one time, so whoever cracks it, feels like all their christmases have come at once. Til of course, the once ripe fruits of love are either all gone, or were just so plentiful, that they kind of got boring. Time to go and find some new and flavoursome fruit then...there is an abundance of them just around the corner..tra lala

It's from my experience with these types, that I find there's alot to be said for good old Plain Jane. God bless her cotton socks! They're usually secretly hot anyhow and can actually go out of the house without two layers of foundation and half a stick of eyeliner. When she does lay it on, you get the feeling it's all for you. Even if it's not.

You could try calling Wageline and do a bit of whistle blowing. Though your missus might be put between the hard place and the other hard place, seeing she sounds like the only one on salary at the store copping all the crap.

I think she basically needs to "let them know" what her legal rights are. Don't ask for a day off..just tell the **stards you're taking it off and that they are required by law to let her!

I do wonder why she can't get some of the other staff to assist her, with a bit of OT or staggering their hours. If she's 2IC she should be at least be able to swing something like that if she wanted to. Maybe she's protecting her postion from competitors.

Posted: 11/11/2008 6:12:30 AM
^^Good point Pedro. I'm actually leaning toward a fully stock standard base model anything with a rev limiter on it for the youngins.

We all know today's youth have their priorities all out of whack. Just like the older crowd..lol Why would anyone want to slum it in a 12 year old ghetto mobile, when the bank will lend them money to buy an assett, that will instantly depreciate, while they pay a higher personal interest rate. Then when they finally pay it off, it's worth bugger all and they have to start all over again.
All to keep up with the Jones's. Who are doing the exact same thing by the way. Get an AP5 Valiant with a good paint job, a bench seat and white walls and you've got it made.

Young punks have got it made these days, the way things are shaping up. They can live at home with the folks to save for a house deposit, get the first home owners grant and go out and buy a $30K+ utility with twin overhead foxtails and a fluffy pinstriping. Pretty sure that's the way I'd swing it. Though probably wouldn't spend more than $18K max on a tilly. They're for trashing!

How do you deter (?) - there have been many many cases of stopping reoffending by the methods of restorative justice. There have even been those who have been found not responsible for the crimes they have pleaded guilty to by applying the investigative methods of restorative justice.

Oh so you deter people by finding them not responsible for crimes they have pleaded guilty to by applying the investigative methods of restorative justice? And I guess we mustn't forget that there have been many many cases of stopping reoffending by the methods of restorative justice...

Posted: 10/25/2008 4:25:08 AM

I didn't go after the ones who were involved, even though our combative justice system is set up that way. I looked at the big picture and concentrated on fixing the problems, or more correctly having the govt fix the problems that they had created.

That's how restorative justice works.

Ok...so where is the justice? I'm obviously not familiar with your personal case or plight, but am quite capable of applying your chosen philosophy to plenty of other cases...and for the life of me, cannot see how the term "justice" is even applicable to it's principle. It's addressing the cause of a problem that may cause a crime, but seems to devalue the seriousness of a crime already committed. Just what is the deterrent?

Restorative Justice used to work in a lot of societies.

Punitive Justice just doesn't seem to, no matter how harsh the punishment and can sometimes punish the innocent.

By fixing the problems, instead of seeking revenge and retribution, many positives come for individuals, their families, their communities and society at large.

So rehabilitation, reconciliation and "healing" is the answer "Restorative Justice" provides? Perpertrators paying some sort of restitution and being reintegrated into society? Excuse me..but that's some really funny shit.

^^Oh well perhaps they need to work on the definition of "beyond reasonable doubt". Good luck saving all those child killers.

Yes and the more a mess they make of it the better.

Capital punishment when proven beyond reasonable doubt just makes sense on so many levels.

It's not out of character for me. It's just who I am. I'm a vindictive r-sole. I'll never change as vengence and spite has consumed my very soul.

Yankee Doodle Dandy - Who will become President of the Land of the Free?

I never did understand McCain's description of Obama as a "celebrity". I mean if you're campaigning for the Presidency..it's kind of a redundant thing to say...and in so doing comparing him to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton? The Hilton's are ..sorry, were apparentley Republican supporters! Then McCain and his family appear on tabloid magazine covers, with himself and then Palin making appearances on Saturday Night Live. I mean people are laughing anyway, without them resorting to comedy. Just don't mention the war/s.

As for the skin "color" issue, I think the fact that people even view it as a topic for discussion, speaks volumes about them as individuals.

Pro Life or Pro choice?

If you don't want it, you probably shouldn't have it. Whether you're rich or poor. In a utopian world, children would be appreciated by everyone. But since this isn't a perfect world and people in general are driven primarily by money and their potential to make more, children don't always fit in. I'm sure most of these people do eventually have children and at some point look back and wonder what their older brother or sister would have been like.
