Mike - thanks for the awesome review; it was well worth the wait, and I'm glad you enjoyed my profile! Keep up the good work, but only as long as it continues to be fun for you. Or find some way to charge us big bucks!

Joe, I'm sorry, but your profile reads just like hundreds and hundreds of other profiles. There's just nothing at all that stands out about it:
... know what i want in life. I love the outdoors, music, dancing, traveling and good friends. I am looking for someone who shares my interests and has goals in life.
You claim a sarcastic sense of humor, yet nowhere in your profile or even in your posts do you display any evidence of that humor.
Sense of humor is very important since i have a sarcastic sense of humor myself and i love to laugh.
More of the same ol, same ol.
I am looking for someone attractive, intelligent and honest. Im drama free and you should be the same. Im very open minded. I can be very spontaneous.
This approaches humor:
By the way if you just want me for my body i wont be interested. lol
But it's still not all that funny.
Hmm, good luck with this one, because I think it's going to be too crowded.
Every other man and woman on this site is already there!
First Date
coffee just some place where we can talk
I really don't mean to come off sounding harsh, and I know a lot of men really are looking for these things, but if you want to stand out, you need to find an original way to put that across. A few more pictures wouldn't hurt either.
Good luck!

I agree with Ophelia. For someone who professes to be a social drinker, you devote an awful lot of space to
and
. I know that's what a lot of young guys do, but I really think you'd do better to dump this part:
The only alcohol I really enjoy are rye & coke or coolers ( Mmm, Smirnoff Ice...Beer just tastes like concentrated piss, but I'll endure it if I have to ).
I think it's okay to leave in the part about getting drunk and going to Burger King; it was kind of funny.
And I wasn't offended by the butt buddy picture, either; it also was amusing.
Good luck, and do consider compromising on the alcoholic details in your profile.
Happy
!

Hi Kris - returning the favor here, also. I
like
your profile. It's interesting, well written, and flows smoothly; definitely not a cookie-cutter profile. I think the second photo, of you wearing glasses against the dark blue background, is the most flattering; you kind of blend in with the background in the first pic. So maybe switch the pictures, but other than the separated status, I can't see anything wrong with it.
Good Luck!

I realize this thread was started four and a half months ago, but I'll go ahead and post my curried chicken recipe here anyway:
Fragrant Chicken Curry
serves 6
2 Tbs. curry powder (I used mild yellow curry powder)
1 tsp ground ginger
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
2 Tbs vegetable oil
1 large onion halved and thinly sliced (I used chopped frozen Ore Ida onions, about 1-2 cups)
3 garlic cloves, minced (I used the chopped garlic in a jar, about 1 tablespoon)
1 rotisserie chicken, skinned and boned (or 6 boneless skinless chicken breasts, cooked), meat pulled into chunks, 3 1/2 to 4 cups
1 bag frozen chopped cauliflower
1 13.5 oz can coconut milk
1 14.5 oz can diced tomatoes
1 14.5 oz can chicken broth
1 tablespoon dried basil flakes
Mix spices in small bowl and set aside. Heat oil in Dutch oven or small soup kettle over medium-high heat; add onion and sauté until golden, 8 - 10 minutes. Add garlic; sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Add spices; toast until fragrant, 30 secs to 1 minute. Add chicken and cauliflower; stir until coated with spices. Add coconut milk, tomatoes, broth, and basil. Bring to simmer; cook until flavors blend and stew is thick, about 20 minutes. Remove from heat and serve over rice.

Favourite Pies

Anyone happen to have a recipe that is close to the French Silk Pie that Bakers Square has?
My Grandma used to make this; the recipe came from a Baker's chocolate recipe brochure from the thirties or forties:
BAKER'S GERMAN'S SWEET CHOCOLATE ANGEL PIE
PIE SHELL:
2 egg whites
1/8 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Combine egg whites, salt, and cream of tartar in mixing bowl. Beat until foamy. Add sugar, 2 tablespoons at a time, beating after each until sugar is blended. Continue beating until mixture stands in very stiff peaks. Fold in nuts and vanilla. Spoon into lightly greased 8 inch pie pan; make a next-like shell, building sides up 1/2 inch above edge of pan. Bake at 300 degrees for 50-55 minutes. Cool to room temperature. Meringue Shell or entire pie may be made the day before using.
CHOCOLATE ANGEL FILLING:
1 (1/4 lb.) pkg. Baker's German's sweet chocolate
3 tbsp. water
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup whipping cream, whipped until stiff peaks form
Place chocolate and water in saucepan over low heat. Stir until chocolate is melted. Cool until thickened. Add vanilla. Fold chocolate mixture into whipped cream. Pile into meringue shell. Chill 2 hours before serving. Makes 6-8 servings.

dessert recipes for 60 people
Posted:

in the bottom af a hotel pan layer fruit topping and then dry cake mix top with sliced butter probable about three sticks bake in oven at 350 until golden and sides start to pull from edges.
Well, the dump cake is quick, cheap, and easy, and you can find dozens of variations on the recipe websites.
Is it a requirement that you use your herbs in cooking the dessert? Because if you just need a way to promote them, try this: pick up a half dozen or so cheap potpourri pots (bet you could find some at your local Dollar Store) and simmer some of the more aromatic herbs in place of potpourri.

I agree - I wasn't posting it to get Mike to review the rest; it was to remind everyone how much he
has
done and to try to slow down the new requests from people that don't read the part where he said 'no new requests'.
And Mike - you have really done a fabulous job on these reviews. If you've had enough, we all understand.

New people – stop asking for reviews! The poor guy is far enough behind as it is. And besides, he said no more new ones until he's caught up. The names with the bouncies in front are still waiting for reviews, so give the dude a break. The names that also have a green bouncie are people waiting that have reposted at least once after their original post. So give the dude a break, lol.

these excuses like, no chemistry, no connection, nothing in common
translates to, "Not interested becauce you don't have enough money and or you don't want to pay enough".
What a cynical, bitter outlook. And how wrong you are. Boring and obnoxious has nothing to do with money. I'd love to date a funny, intelligent, poor guy who makes my knees weak than some pompous, brainless, rich dolt who just makes me feel creepy when he looks at me.

Why do guys say baby - honey - sweetie
Posted:
8/25/2006 12:52:20 PM
Y'know, some of the terms really don't bother me, even from a stranger. I guess it depends on the circumstances. Say I hold the door open for a guy carrying an armload of stuff, and he says, "Thanks, darlin'." That doesn't offend me in the least, I even kinda like it. Maybe I'd feel differently if I were on a first or second date with a guy and that's all he called me, and never used my name. Different circumstances, different reactions.

food quirks peculiar to you

An egg poached in undiluted condensed tomato soup, then sprinkled with finely shredded 6-cheese Italian blend.
When I was a kid I was just as quirky - ketchup on vanilla ice cream. And I had a thing about textures; my Grandma would run my oatmeal through a food mill so it would be smooth because I couldn't stand the lumps. And I used to squeeze the insides out of my peas and throw away the skins.

Making your stew thicker
Posted:
8/24/2006 9:56:20 PM
To avoid the raw taste of flour in a roux, I was always taught to cook it over low heat for at least one minute before adding liquid. And you should mix in some liquid from the stew into the roux before adding it back. I've also used the gravy mixes with good results.
On a side note, when using a roux to make a bechamel (or white) sauce, many cooks suggest heating the milk before adding it to the roux, in order to avoid lumps. However, I've found that adding the cold milk all at once and stirring constantly until the sauce thickens works just as well.

Your Worst Kissing Experience
Posted:

My worst kissing experience was also my fault. I was 14, it was my first "kiss", and it was a contest at a party. Three boys, three girls, each boy kissed each girl. All I knew was what I'd seen in the movies. I did the "washing machine". You know, tongue in mouth, and you move it around, and around, and around, and around, and... Yeah. I lost.

Heavy Dating - Dress Size
Posted:
8/23/2006 8:36:03 AM
I find this thread and the questions within to be bizarre. I've never been obese/heavy so maybe I'm not qualified to feel the way I do but you're making it sound like heavy women are some sort of sub-human group of individuals.
Well, the fact is, heavy people
are
treated that way. But frankly, anyone who would pass me up just on the basis of my weight is not someone I'd be interested in anyway. And I would be
just
as uninterested in someone who only wanted me because I
am
heavy. I want someone based on his personality, and would want him to feel the same about me.
It doesn't matter what size your body is. What matters is the size of your
personality

Should sex always be painful everytime?
Posted:
8/22/2006 1:08:21 PM
Sex has been uncomfortable for me, also. I have a tipped uterus, a narrow passage, vaginal dryness, and I get tense. But I was very lucky in that my S/O was very considerate. He was happy to indulge my need for foreplay for as long as I wanted it, we used plenty of lubrication, and he'd enter me slowly, a little at a time, giving me a chance to relax around him at each stage. Once he was all the way in, it went smoothly from there.

New Profile Covers All Bases.... thoughts????
Posted:

Just my $0.02 worth, but I thnk choosing as your main photo the arms-crossed, stern-faced, no-nonsense tough guy look completely negates any sense of levity you were trying to convey. The humorless tone is strengthened by the fact that in not one of your photos do you display a visible smile.
Dump the backyard picture. Nobody wants to date your backyard. Dump the "Respect" poster. That belongs on a bumper sticker, or your cubicle wall at work. Dump the picture of your daughter and your grandson. Save it for the second meeting, when you and your date are comparing pics of your families. And the photo quality of your last shot is poor. See if you can photoshop the red glow out of that, or take it somewhere and see if you can have it retouched.
Maybe your profile would have seemed funnier if you looked like you were fun to be around.
Good luck and good

What foods do you hate?
Posted:
8/17/2006 11:15:30 AM
Hmm, most of it for me is a texture issue rather than taste. Anything stringy or fibrous - ick. Broccoli stalks, asparagus stalks, celery stalks, sweet potatoes. I like all those, once the toughness is cooked out of them. Anything with a skin that doesn't just dissolve in my mouth is gonna make the list. And all of these foods I like just fine once the skins have been removed. Bell peppers, tomatoes, apples, lima beans, grapes (I can usually handle the skin on grapes). It was even worse when I was a little girl - I'd skin my peas! I'd pick 'em up one at a time and squeeze the innards onto my plate, then I'd eat the tiny little pea guts and leave a pile of empty skins on my plate. I still can't believe my Mom and Grandma let me get away with that. Grandma was such a doll, she'd run my oatmeal through a food mill so it was nice and smooth. I absolutely couldn't have eaten it otherwise; it felt like I was chewing vomit.
The very worst skin? Fore. And the darned stalk just keeps getting harder. No matter how I try to keep it down, it just keeps coming back up...
Oh, I can't believe I even went there.

What's a good cure for the hiccoughs?
Posted:
8/15/2006 10:25:12 AM
My Grandma always used to use the sugar method on my sister and me. Sometimes I'd fake hiccups just to get the sugar, hee hee.
I usually use one of the breath-holding methods these days. Take as deep a breath as you can, and right at the end of the inhalation, suck in a little extra, so you get that same kind of catch at the end as when you yawn. Then, hold your breath for about ten seconds, while you relax your chest and diaphragm. This almost always works on the first attempt for me; I rarely have to do it twice. On a side note, that trick also helped stem the nicotine urge when I quit smoking, back in 1982.

So what's your alias/screename mean??

This is a great thread. I've always wondered myself what some of the more obscure ones mean (same goes for personalized license plates).
I made mine up about 15 years ago, playing with phonetic spellings of words and phrases. I always thought it would make a good bumper sticker, but never really considered using it as a screen name until the last year or two. Another one I've used is a combination of my son's and my nephew's names, Evan and Ian, along with my month and year of birth, hence, evian257. I also use bigbrowneyes or browneyedgirl, for fairly obvious reasons.
(kornfan - I read your profile, and I have to say that's the first time I've seen a logical reason for the dinner-and-a-movie date.  )

Cool name for your kid?

My son is Evan and my nephew is Ian. If my sister and I had girls, mine would have been Emma, hers Hannah.
My late S/O's granddaughter is Jayla.
My friend's daughter named her sons Noah Brook and Liam Talon; the one on the way is Logan Hawk.
I went to school with a boy named Gage.
I worked with a girl whose daughter is named Kayleigh.
I once worked with a man named Richard Burns, and yes, he went by D i c k instead of Rick or Rich. What's amusing is that I didn't realize there was anything funny about it until some years after I stopped working there.
I knew a guy whose last name is Brandt; he actually named his son Rem.
I encountered a girl who worked in a fast food restaurant; her name is LaTrina. Did her parents really not have a clue that they were setting her up for all those outhouse remarks?
She should marry a guy named Uranus. Their kids could be Phecal, Phlatus, and Phart.

A Profile Appraisal Please

If you smoke pot, then choose yes for drug use and qualify that answer in your narrative. And I'll echo kris1082 (love the new pic, btw
) here and say that I also dislike the third person perspective of your profile. It makes you seem detached from the rest of the group.

atheism vs. christianity

Dude......you gotta get your facts right if you wanna discuss this stuff. Man was made in God's image....not visa versa.
To an atheist that statement would be considered utter nonsense.

Does it rhyme with punt?
No, it rhymes with bunt.
(just a side note, to dispel confusion caused by not reading all posts - this remark was not directed at the OP)

Why is it that men refuse to delete their profiles?

I mean the second guy was just an average overweight male, divorced with 3 kids. What makes him so much better; he certainly acted like he was.
Wow. Controlling
and
judgmental.
Really, if you're nagging him to dump his profile after only two weeks of dating...
It sounds a little like you have very low self esteem, and that you're more worried about his proving that you're worth giving everything up for, and less worried about actually having a relationship with him. It looks like you don't care whom you have a relationship with, as long as he's willing to give everything else up for you. JMHO
And before you tell me I haven't been there, well I've been in a similar place, and it made me step back and take a good, long, hard look at MYSELF. And I learned something from it. I hope you can, too.

And once again, two guys as different as night and day. Frezno, I can see why so many women have you on their favorites list. I think any woman would be lucky to catch a young man like you. As for commenting on the boy's post below yours, well, my Grandma always told me if I couldn't think of anything nice to say, don't say anything at all...

Her reply included
"Not interested in a fat old man from a whole state away"
AND
"so why don't you f*ck off and die".
Classy lady, eh?
Wow. There's a word for people like her; it starts with a "C" but it isn't "classy". She does have class, though - lower class.

It's nice to be reminded that a 22 year old man can have more depth, maturity, insight, and common sense than some pompous old poot nearly three times his age. You rock, Bic! So do you, Erik.
