Come on fishies...
it is coming around to that time of year again and I was wondering if there were any brave souls here on POF!!
New Years day.. English Bay
If there is enough interest, I can look into having a section saved for us (again) at Checkers for both before and after the swim.

Traffic fines to be added to ICBC insurance
Posted:
12/28/2007 7:53:13 AM
I went into the ICBC site to gather some info from the 'horses mouth' so to speak.
It is called Driver Risk Premium (DRP) and they have a table with the full scale of fines available on it. It comes into effect January 1st, 2009
~The DRP is bases on convictions over a three-year period and will apply to offences that occur on or after January 1st 2008.
~Driver Penalty Points and Driver Risk Premium do not affect Autoplan insurance premiums, and are billed whether or not the customer owns or insures a vehicle.
~You may have offences on your record like an excessive speeding ticket, two or more roadside suspensions, or multiple convictions for other on-the-road violations. This can include offences like; **not wearing a seatbelt **changing lanes without signaling **turning without signaling **passing on the right of the highway and other violations.
You would have to have THREE or more of these seemingly simple offences within three years, for the fines to come into effect
It is well worth going to the ICBC site and checking it all out for yourself
**Just drive safe and within the law and there is nothing to worry about**

Role Reversal
Posted:
12/26/2007 7:51:49 AM
I have been a single mom since the day I told 'dad' I was pregnant. I'm not complaining, infact... I think that knowing it was all on my shoulders right from the start helped me make the choices I did. My daughter has just turned 12 this last week and she is a joy, plain and simple.
I have tried to do as all parents do, teach her, guide her, support her and wipe away the tears for her when needed. I don't know that I would call it being 'dad', but I have taken on some of the more 'male' oriented roles and have loved every moment of it; (eg) -we both have a huge interest in the great outdoors so I signed up in Scouts as a leader and away we went. She also has a good balance of male role models within my family that really help.
I am blessed
ps~cheerios in the toilet so the boys learn to aim... as all the guys run to try it out!

POF Polar Bear Swim 2008 ~ English Bay!!
Posted:
12/19/2007 12:33:27 PM
OK all you fishies,
It is coming up to that time of year again. Time to wash away the old year and start the new one off with a dip in the Ocean!! This will be the third year the POF'ers gets together for this event. ALL are welcome to either jump in with us, or be our cheering section!
We will be meeting:
!!~NEW YEARS DAY~!!
any time after 12 noon (head to the beach about 1:30)
at
Checkers Bar and Grill in the Best Western Sands Hotel
1755 Davie St., (right near Davie and Denman)
Vancouver, BC
The swim takes place at 2:30pm with registration opening up at 12:30. So get down to the beach and register first, then head over to the Sands Hotel, CHECKERS and meet up with us crazy fish! Our very own, BigPapaG is spinning the tunes starting at noon for the pre and post swim party and the kitchen will be open even earlier than that!
Last year we got there early, enjoyed a meal and a bit of the 'hair of the dog' before heading down to the beach (1/2 block away). After our 'dip', we headed back to the hotel where we had a place to change and back to CHECKERS for some dancing in the aisles.. literally!
For those driving down, if you get there early you can usually pay for parking in the back of the Sands Hotel..
*****************************************************************
Thanks healthconcious for the suggestion to have this info

CHICKEN SH*T BINGO
Posted:
5/23/2007 5:16:21 AM
ha.. chicken sh*t bingo.. I used to put it on at my campsite! What a blast it is... hehee
When I did it, it was not a big fundraiser so I scaled it down:
~ always use a
square
pen
(and no not the type to write with)
~ 49 squares and simply divided the board into 7 equal squares.
~ just $1- per square (again not for a huge fundraiser, just fun)
~ $25- went to the 'house' and $24- went to the winner, but if the chicken hit on the line then $12- per, if it hit 3 squares=$8-per, right on the cross=$6- per
so if you do 10 x 10 squares to make 100 of them,
$500- / $250- / and so on if they split..
make sure have the rules posted and explain that on them
(be VERY specific on how much poop has to be in the other square to count as a split ....)
and I always had three chickens because yes, they do get pooped...
most of all..
HAVE FUN!!
ahh.. the crazy info I have in this brain of mine!

Wedding songs ~ do they predict the outcome?
Posted:
5/2/2007 10:25:39 AM
I was talking to a friend of mine about what kinds of 'first dance' wedding songs we have heard and boy did we laugh!
~a family member, 2nd marriage for her.. 3rd for him..
their "song" was
I can get you back in the saddle baby!
and the age old..
'Every breath you take'
that was so popular until people realised it was about a stalker!
what 'first dance' songs have you had a giggle over??

The Bum pinch... so whats the rule?
Posted:
4/30/2007 9:03:15 AM
Unless I know you and have FLIRTED with you or I am your friend...
You are not to pinch, grab or otherwise touch me.
So I am allowed because?? hehe
I agree with fox and tiger and I am not even an animal...
*well, not in name anyway*
I hate when someone I don't know, or know very casually thinks it is ok to touch, pinch, grind without any kind of permission... well, you get the picture. As for me doing the same to others, only with full on eye contact / verbal permission where I know it will be taken in the fun flirty way it was intended

New Feature for Women.

As admin stated...
we (women) will be
able to see
who has sent us this advisory, so we can decide how much faith to put in the warning! I think it is a helpful tool and if it comes from someone who's judgement I trust, then I will take heed and proceed with caution. With this being a free site, it opens up the door for many .. unsavoury people and any warning system should be welcomed in my book!
I can see that this tool could also be used for the men too and hopefully that would quelch the sexist comments...

"Great dating material list"?
that would be the testimonial.. lol
I think the idea is great!...as long as I know who on my faves list sent it to me.
I have those females that are close friends and then some that are because of events that we have met at... so if I know WHO it is coming from, it will help me in my judgement (or not) of the fellow involved!
happy fishing.

Arrgh... we allowed to wear our replica weaponry into this event?
Hmm... now I know many of us will be having plastic weapons, but not very
'real'
looking, so there will be no confusion..
As for replica weaponry.. You are on your own with that decision. If there is any problems the hosts/POF are NOT responsible...

so far...
my experience has been good with dates. We seem to be on the same page..whether it is a possitive or a not so much! lol
I haven't been on many dates from here(take mt time with them), but there has always been some kind of mutual contact after the 'date' and some nice friendships made
as for who does the contact first after... just simply depends on timing...

can i ask a question?
Posted:
4/9/2007 10:36:04 AM
Here are some thoughts of mine since I have hosted 2 events: one small~Polar Bear Swim & one large ~Valentines party
As a host;
I think
our responsibility is mainly to have the venue 'ready' for the numbers we think are going to be there (please try to sign up when you are going as it does help with this!).
If
there is a way to have an area set aside,
if
there is a way to have signs,
if
we can have any drink/food specials, special covercharge issues, etc for larger venues, then to have that taken care of. Some choose to have nametags, some choose to do glow bracelets, some try for a reserved section so we can identify each other, but us
POF members
are trying! (not for glory, for making something fun ~ remember this is time, energy and sometimes our own money, that goes into this)
As a newbie;
I would suggest contacting the host (s) and seeing if they can either introduce you around themselves when you get there or set you up with someone that can. This is for intro's only, not to babysit you all night (yup, have seen that before..lol)
Get to a larger venue
earlier
, not later.. so you have some time to meet people before the crowds come. Once their 'friends' have shown up, it is naturally where their focus will go. And yes,
you
do need to get out and make yourself known that you are part of POF.. as many have stated, you will find some that are very outgoing, but you are also going to find others that are quiet and there is no reason you can't be the one to approach them..
so with my .02 cents worth.. I think the OP has enough for a cold one!!

It would be a great privilege to spend some time at Canuck place and honour Chelsea...

Well .. looks like some time became available and I was able to make it down after all! The POF fishies I saw were swimming among the fetfish and looking like they were having a really good time!
