Body for Life
Posted: 11/18/2009 6:59:14 PM
I actually am thinking of doing this myself. If anything, the information they give you is quite good. But it might be nice to put another challenge in front of me. I've lost over 50 lbs in the last 6-7 months, and while I am happy with that, I do want to challenge myself to lose another 50lbs within the next year. Of course I face the conundrum of losing weight and building muscle. I do want to build more muscle, and maybe I am biting off a bit more than I can chew. But I'm confident I can do 6 small meals a day, and go to the gym religiously (since I already do).

Biggest test will be next Thursday, when food is going to be everywhere and there is not going to be much to do. Better get a pigskin to toss around.

Heavier Americans Push Back on Health Debate
Posted: 11/8/2009 9:26:22 PM
For the most part, it is a choice. A very difficult choice, but a choice nonetheless. Theoretically, any one can lose weight, provided they have a reasonable diet and get some kind of activity every day. It's not easy though, and I think that is the difference among bad drivers per se. Smoking is difficult too, I just don't think it's as difficult as trying to lose weight.

I don't know, kind of hard where everything is in your face. It's not the media's fault, and yet at the same time, some of the blame can go on them. There are millions of Mc Donald's everywhere, but not as many Subways. Or whatever. There are more choices for people go get healthy.

I think people should get lower health insurance if they have healthy options. Some insurances do this. Like, joining a gym, for instance. I don't agree with charging people more though. Mostly because the government will just use it as an excuse to charge everyone more money for everything "Well, you let us charge fat people more insurance, so therefore we can charge skinny people more money...etc."

You can choose to like it or not like it, being fat that is. Some people are cool with it, and as long as they are, I have no issue with it. Afterall, even after all the weight I've lost, I am still fat, though I've made the decision not to be.

PERSONAL TRAINERS Are you nuts
Posted: 11/7/2009 6:35:55 AM
I've personally never felt that I needed one, given the fact that I've lifted all my life and have a basic idea of what I'm doing. Maybe it's a personal pride kind of thing, I almost feel that people who have a personal trainer are mainly people who don't know what they are doing OR they are people who need someone to push them. Probably not true in most cases though.

I lost a lot of weight, just by doing things on my own and I had a small idea of what I was doing. Nowadays, I work out with a friend, who is jacked, and probably knows more than a lot of personal trainers, in essence, I kind of have a personal trainer, except it's free. For example, I never would have done power cleans until I started working out with my friend and I see the benefits of doing this movement now.

Although, I should give props to Mystie for encouraging me to work out the legs, :)

Confidence - the double edged sword
Posted: 10/28/2009 7:50:59 PM
You just know. If the feeling is good and you really feel you are getting somewhere, that is the time to ask.

If the feeling isn't good, you can still ask but she may never return the call. For instance, if she looks away a lot, doesn't seem real interested, listens to other people and doesn't mind cutting you off, etc.

There is no one time, you just know. Especially on here, if I get one word replies or people don't give me anything to go on or if they don't really respond to anything I've asked them, then I know I'm wasting my time.

Is different taste in music enough for you to kill the second date?
Posted: 10/26/2009 7:50:17 PM
I can get into anything, so type of music never bothers me. Actually, whenever I am on a date (one where I pick a girl up), I always have it on some station that is relatively neutral. Oldies even. I love metal, but I realize 99% of females don't. (Unless it's Bon Jovi).

One girl I went out with emphatically stated that she hated metal. Not dislike, or I don't care for, but hated. You have to really put a lot of feeling into hating something, and while there was a second date (and a third where we slept together), it ate at me so much that I ended things. I couldn't imagine being like "Hey, Cradle of Filth is coming..." and being met with an angry stare.

Hence why us metalheads tend to keep small company...

Help me make my meal plan
Posted: 10/12/2009 3:07:56 PM
I've struggled with my weight my whole life. Before summer I was about 335lbs. Now I am around 285lbs. The food issue was the most difficult one for me. Anyway, this is what I do, it's pretty simple actually.

Breakfast
- Multigrain Cheerios w/fat free milk and Kelloggs/Nutrigrain Waffles

Lunch
-3 slices of turkey/ham, American Cheese on the Arnold Flatbread rolls, low fat mayo
-fruit
-Dannon Yogurt
-Wheat thins/Reduced Fat Ritz (serving size)

Dinner
-Vegetables
-Steak or Chicken

For meats that I buy, I take it home, cut them in half, re-wrap them and that's what I have for dinner, just one. Also, I load my plate with veggies.

Dessert
-Skinny Cow Ice Cream sandwich (140 calories)

My diet is pretty basic and routine. It's what works for me, I like routine, so take it for what it's worth.

Big and Beautiful
Posted: 10/12/2009 7:19:20 AM
I would agree that BBW and Athletic don't go together only in the sense of how the phrase BBW conjures up yet another different image of what a woman looks like. However, this has little to nothing to do with the idea that a girl could be big and strong and athletic. Maybe it would be BABW, Big Athletic Beautiful Woman, or something else. They are all just labels anyways, be it what you want.

Personally, I prefer the big girls who can jack up more weight than I thought they could lift over the ones who struggle with the 5 lb weights or are just at the gym to "tone." Unfortunately for me, they all seem to live in another state. Oh, the irony.

goals?
Posted: 9/28/2009 6:23:11 AM
I've dropped two pant sizes since I started this journey, though lately I've drifted off the wagon a bit. Perhaps it is because during the summer I had nothing else to do but go to the gym and work out. Now, I have work, which makes me feel like a trainwreck at the end of each day. Plus, I hurt my shoulder a few weeks ago so I haven't been able to bench much or do any major workouts except for legs at all.

So, really, I'd like to do more cardio because I figure if I can't do many movements with my shoulder, I can at least drop some more weight. I've love to get down to around 250lbs, as I haven't seen that number since 10th grade. Right now I am at about 285lbs. I was 330lbs when I started.

Shoulder
Posted: 9/28/2009 6:19:55 AM
I injured my shoulder in a rugby match a few weeks ago. As a result, I haven't done much in the working out dept (add that with being exhausted at work). I've let it rest a bit, and it feels a lot better. Maybe that's what you need is rest, or if you are going to work it, use very light weight.

Sucks, because the shoulder factors into a lot of exercises.

A weight problem...
Posted: 9/23/2009 8:48:49 PM
Whatever you really love eating, stop eating it. Or at least, don't stock it in your house.

For instance, I LOVE peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. And while every fitness person on the planet will say how a spoonful of peanut butter can be good for you, I know that I will never stop with one spoonful. So, I stopped buying it. If it isn't in your house, you can't eat it.

Allow yourself a day to have what you want, but be moderate. If you normally get two slices of pizza, get one. Seriously, you will feel satisfied after the first piece.

Try packing a lunch. Mix it up. Morningstar makes some great fake burgers. They are good for sandwiches. Skinny Cow makes low fat ice cream sandwiches.

Picture yourself being skinnier and then go out and do it. It's hard, and it's mostly self discipline. It won't happen over night, but it will happen if you stick to it.

Would you date a women bigger and more muscular then you?
Posted: 9/18/2009 8:49:50 PM
I actually dated a girl who I wouldn't say was more muscular than me, but was pretty strong, sometimes even stronger than myself. Since this is what turns me on like nothing else, I was in heaven for a month or so.

Sadly, it didn't work out. I wonder if maybe my whole interest in her strength was a turn off for her. Guess I'll never know.

Lost 115 pounds so far

My biggest advice to people looking to lose weight is to change the way your mind thinks. Make weight loss a happy side effect of healthy living. Don't get down if you have an unhealthy day or moment because one unhealthy day or moment isn't going to effect you the way you think it does. Most people give up on diets because they view it as a diet and not a life style.

That's an excellent point and is one of the hardest things to get over. I lost about 45 lbs over the summer, just by changing how I "think" about food and being more active. You have to work out, but you have to love what you are doing because of the end goal in mind. Losing weight is a great feeling, I've dropped two pants sizes. Awesome, because shopping at the big guy store got expensive. I would have loved to drop 115lbs, I'm sure I could do it if I really want to, though now I am aiming for 30lbs more. I figure at that level, I will be happier.

Keep up the good work! The fact is, being thinner is a lifestyle change. It doesn't mean you have to eat salads every day, just be smart about what you are putting into your body.

How I lost over 40lbs just over 2 months
Posted: 9/13/2009 2:50:28 PM
I had to take some time off from the gym because I injured my shoulder. Nothing serious, but I don't want to strain it too much.

I lost roughly 45 lbs over the summer, but I realized when I started lifting again that I was pretty weak. Like, school girl weak, lol. Right now I am back to where I was lifting wise, minus 45 lbs. Feels great to have your pants falling off you.

Great work bro, by the way. Keep it up!

What gym behavior annoys you the most?
Posted: 8/31/2009 11:22:45 PM
One thing that bugged me today was how someone moved the Smith Machine all the way to the wall. Making it impossible to go around in order to re-stack the weights. This I noticed in the beginning of my back workout, basically meaning that I had to hop over the bar everytime to re-rack. It was so annoying.

People who don't wipe down the machines disgusts me. There's plenty of paper towels, use them. Especially the cardio machines, I myself sweat like a pig, and I always wipe down the machine at least twice before getting off.

How do you get that shiney smooth bald shaven look?
Posted: 8/31/2009 2:56:58 PM
Not really sure what you mean. My head is always quite smooth after shaving it. I use a basic shaving cream, like Gillette Foamy, with a Gillette Fusion Razor. Sometimes, especially in summer, if I am going out, I put a lotion on it, like Aveeno, or something of that nature. But, my head is always smooth. Not necessarily shiny, though it kind of comes out that way anyways.

I didn't expect this at all
Posted: 8/31/2009 10:42:58 AM
Post above is probably the best advice ever. I've fallen for girls, found some who I thought were amazing, but the fact is, if they think they can play you and keep you around, while they are hitting another guy, then what does that say about you? There's tons of women out there, sure, the one you are with might seem more special than the others, but really, she isn't, it's all about how you perceive things.

Heartbreak sucks. Get over it, then get up and back in the game. Because that's all it is, one big game.

Best health decision I've made

Most hardcore gamers I met are kind of creepy. I casually play the PS3, though there are days when you are locked into a game, look at the clock and realize "Wow, I've been playing this that long?"]

If anything, at least when I am playing the PS3 I am not eating, but it's better to go to the gym. Same could be said for the pc.

What gym behavior annoys you the most?
Posted: 8/31/2009 9:43:12 AM
This has been done a million times, but I will post anyways, because I am bored.

Honestly, most of these things I shut out, since when I am at the gym I am focused on my own workout. However, what bugs me the most is when someone is using three different pieces of equipment at once. I get people are into circuit training and what not, and maybe people have a valid argument or something, but you can't just hog three pieces of equipment at once.

I only drop weights when doing deadlifts. And only because, well, you don't really have much choice, but I do it slowly.

The temperature in the room annoys me more than anything. Sometimes I get there and it is like an icebox. I get that it's summer, but we are all there to sweat anyway, it doesn't need to be sub zero temperatures.

I need to get in shape.. need help.
Posted: 8/18/2009 4:54:14 AM
You don't necessarily have to give up "bad" foods, just look for "healthier alternatives" of those foods.

For instance, I LOVE ice cream. Who doesn't right? I'm not going to give up ice cream just to lose weight. So, I found these ice cream sandwiches called Skinny Cow which are like 140 calories. Again, I have ONE occasionally, but that satisfies my fix. Some foods I did have to cut out entirely, like Peanut Butter. I am absolutely addicted to it, and will eat a whole jar in five minutes if given the chance. So, I decided never to buy it.

I try to fill my day up with something. I play the PS3 at times, and never eat when I am playing it. I know, I know, video games probably aren't #1 on people's lists of losing weight, but the idea is that I am doing something, not eating.

Motivation is easy, look in the mirror and decide if you are happy or is there something you want to change. Then think of some program that you can reasonably do and do it. Start small and work your way up. Maybe it's as simple as walking for 10 minutes a day. It's something right? I've lost 40 pounds this summer, and I started doing cardio for 10 minutes, then building up to 15, 20, all the way up to an hour. As your body gets stronger, you are able to push yourself more.

As for past injuries, ask maybe a trainer or a doctor for advice on what you can do. There are literally hundreds of exercises for every part of the body, I'm sure there is something you can do without re-injuring yourself.

What do you think would be the best way to get to a smoke free society?
Posted: 8/5/2009 6:26:42 AM
I see less smokers nowadays, and I think in due time, there will come a time when hardly anyone will smoke. The more you "force" people to move to secluded locations, the more they hate it and the more will want to smoke just because it pisses people like you off (not aimed at anyone directly).

There's more than enough ads and psa's about the dangers of smoking. Give it time. Eventually, it will fade away and smokers won't be a problem. Of course, then again, since smoking won't be an issue, all those people who bashed smokers will find another group they don't like to pick on.

Should I eat dinner before or after working out?
Posted: 8/5/2009 6:23:00 AM
I go with after. Especially for me, usually I'm not too hungry after a workout anyways. So, the idea that eating after 8pm is bad, yeah, I guess, if you're not doing anything. Considering you worked out though, I don't think it applies.

Before I workout, I like to have an apple or one of those slim fast snack bars. Something that will take care of the hunger but give me a pop of energy before I go into workout. Whenever I have eaten a dinner beforehand, I find that I am just so tired, and well, after my workout, I am still hungry, so I'd end up eating more than I should.

Hope this helps. I understand work schedules, some of us can't always workout at the perfect time.

People work more too, though. The days of mom staying at home and keeping the kids out of the house are long gone. I had video games back when I was a kid, and even I spent hours inside playing it, sure it isn't as advanced as today, but it was the cool thing at the time. Most families are two income, so, parents aren't always there.

Also, seems some parents shouldn't be parents. Easier to bring the kid to Mc Donalds than say, make sure they are eating healthy.

How do you add reps and weight?
Posted: 7/28/2009 10:42:49 PM
Any time I go overboard, I end up getting frustrated, and feel real sore, and then I don't want to go to the gym again.

Try different things, see what works for you. Take everything in moderation and understand this is a long term not a short term thing. Go with what your trainer says, and build upon that.

Any fitness experts want to weigh in with better advice? (excuse the pun, lol)

Too true. What is being done about it? I have no idea. But the litany of people on tv and the internet preaching weight loss certainly aren't helping. And what you said with the bashing. Negativity breeds negativity. I'll never forget when Rudy from Notre Dame came to our school and used negativity to try to psyche our football team up (we were facing a losing a season). Everyone in that locker room including myself wanted to punch that old guy square in the jaw. Now, I know negativity works for some people, but for most, it just pisses us the hell off and we want to direct our rage at the source.

Maybe some things need to be changed. Maybe the government should actually do its job and regulate industries instead of letting them off with a free pass. It isn't the government's fault people are overweight, it's the fault of people allowing themselves to get this way. But if obesity is a severe problem, and it seems to be in America today, why does it feel like no one is doing anything about it?

That's very true. As if overweight people are the last bastion of people that it's ok to make fun of. Irregardless of whether it is a "personal" choice or not, as many like to claim, it is still quite difficult. It's very easy for someone who has never been overweight to say things like "go to the gym" or "don't eat so much." But for those who have been overweight most of their lives, it's very difficult. Doesn't make them stupid. It's so wrapped up in their mentality, and with magazines and popular media presenting an image that is supposed to be beautiful (healthy is another matter entirely), some people feel that gives them carte blanche to say whatever is on their minds, even if they are hurtful to others.

Think, whenever you lose weight, what is the first thing people say "You look great, did you lose some weight?" As if you looked horrible before, lol. I realize that people think they are being nice and maybe I am overanalyzing that statement, but if you think about it, that's not that great of a thing to say. It would be like saying to a black person "Wow, I can't believe how well you speak and how articulate you are." Most people know that saying the latter, while on the face it is a compliment, is really a backhanded way of being racist, as if to assume black people are not smart. I'm not saying people shouldn't give compliments, but to think before they say things, and also, just because you might not like the way a person looks doesn't mean you have to tell them that to their face.

Thanks, to both of you for the tips. The form, yeah I get that. I was thinking of going with real low weight the first go around just to make sure I have the form down. The question, probably won't apply much in the beginning, but once I get a move on, then I can rock it like Bill Kazmeier or someone, I don't really follow Power Lifting, and I know that's reaching way back.

Opinions On Colon Cleanse and Acai Berry, Fat Burn Products
Posted: 7/27/2009 12:03:07 PM
I wish I knew of this before. I tried some of these things, and in a way, I felt one colon cleanse was working, but it was seriously messing up my internal system, to the point where my body relied on it. My honest assessment is that it doesn't work at all, and you would be stupid to buy into any of it (take it from someone who has felt stupid many times).

The sad fact of reality is that if you want to lose weight and be healthy, I've realized that you have to change your diet and eat the things that are good for you. It's taken me a long time to accept this fact, but it is reality, and it's not so bad. I hardly miss the 6 diet pepsis I drank everyday when I drink my water instead.

Here's a question I have. I don't powerlift, but I do realize now that I have severely been neglecting my legs. Do I need a belt? Sometimes I see people use wrist straps, is there a real benefit to all of this? I don't mean super freakin serious lifting, I just mean, I haven't done deadlifts in awhile and want to incorporate it into my program. Forgive me if I sound like an idiot or all over the place, but some of ya's seem like you actually know what you're talking about.

I walk all the time, even before getting into the gym, I had big powerful legs. Very low fat in them. However, since working out... I now even wear a smaller SHOE!! My legs is the one area on my body that holds almost no fat. I measure myself in inches as well as weight... and the inches of my thighs has gotten bigger... but the fat has gone down. Legs of steel I tell you!! I actually have gone so far as to not put a picture of my legs on POF for fear of someone saying it is a fake picture.

You should post one! That would be a compliment, I'd think, for someone to be like "oh that's morphed." Smaller shoe sizes, amazing, finding the proper shoe size is difficult for me. Maybe you're on to something.

Try not to think of it as paralysis.... think of it as a really awesome burn. It just means you worked them very hard and they are thanking you.

... be glad you don't have to sit down to pee.

I definitely get what you are saying. Whenever I have in the past felt like "I really should do my legs" I always end up doing more than I should. Maybe that's it. Like, I can't get on the squat with hardly any weight on, it's like, hey wait a minute, I could do like 10 plates total in high school, why the heck not? But you make a good point, guys don't have to sit as much, lol. I will do them soon, just after this tournament I am in next weekend, I am going to need my legs as fresh as possible.

Recovery Time - How long are you taking between workouts?
Posted: 7/27/2009 7:22:33 AM
This is certainly very interesting, though I would feel weird if I was working out once a month. I am guessing this workout is very long and high intensity. Kudos if it works for you.

I've mostly been doing cardio, I don't know, my theory is that I've worked out all my life, the muscle is there, and getting rid of that fat is more important. I am probably wrong, and if anyone wants to point that out you are free to do that.

Here is some kind of schedule I have:

Day 1
Chest
Day 2
Back
Day 3
Biceps
Day 4
Triceps
Day 5
Shoulders
Weekend
RUGBY

I do cardio all the time before I weight train, if anything because its a mental thing for me. I can't bring myself to do cardio afterwards for some reason. I will incorporate legs soon, just after this week as I have a rugby tournament coming up and don't want to be sore as hell.

Posted: 7/27/2009 7:14:38 AM
BTW, congrats on the girl who lost 80 pounds. That's quite an achievement and you should be proud of yourself. I would kill to lose that kind of weight.

My main problem is when I am working out and can't find a free weight, only to find that it is next to some dude's bench or just thrown on the floor. When you are done with the free weights, I get maybe it's hard to put them exactly where you got them, but maybe, IDK, put them together somewhere. If I go to grab a 45 and have to search the entire gym for the other one, it makes me feel like I am wasting time at the gym.

I don't have a problem with the grunters or the talkers, or the guys who flex in the mirror, hehe. If that's how they do it, that's how they do it, who am I to complain? The grunters are rare, but usually, they are doing some heavy duty stuff, the talkers always move when I ask them to and always say sorry if there are in the way. The flexers, well, who doesn't like to pop a flex once in awhile?

I always wipe down the treadmill, especially since I tend to sweat on it awhile. Like I said before, at my current gym, I have few pet peeves. In the past, I used to work out at a fancy gym, and in the morning, it was annoying for these old dudes walking around in the locker room with their junk hanging out, right next to you talking about news and politics. I'm like "uhhh, I just want to get changed man." It also used to bug me when people would take a cup of coffee on the stairclimber. I don't know why it did, it just did.

My only pet peeve is folks that like to do circuit training with various equipments but won't allow you to work in on any of those equipment until they finish their entire circuit.

I'm with you right there. I can't stand that. Generally, I usually don't have an issue, but sometimes it's a problem. People on the flat bench with a few 50s hanging by, doing their bench, then going up and doing shoulder raises or whatever. I work out at a YMCA, there isn't more than 1 set per weight, rarely anyways, we all are equal members. If you want to circuit train, go when no one is there.

I also feel pretty stupid for putting three posts together in a row. Sorry bout that, total newb mistake. Or maybe it's me getting to this thread late and having to read through a few pages, some of which was interesting, some of which was just people who have nothing better to do with their time than make fun of something that is very difficult to take care of.

I've lost 30lbs recently. Which, is noticeable, people say I look better, my pant size went down one, I feel better, I mean, life is a bit peachier. It is VERY difficult to lose any kind of weight. Look on the tv, there are SO many people who claim they have that one great "elixir" to weight loss. So called fitness experts are the same, talk to ten personal trainers you will get ten different answers. Lots of people say "eat five short meals a day" and I get the reasoning behind it, makes sense and all. Personally, I just can't really do it. It's a mental thing, for me. It's how I see things. Growing up the youngest of six kids, you had to be pretty aggressive if you wanted to eat. Of course, as my older siblings moved out, I still had this mentality, even though there were less of us, lol. What I am basically saying (and I am not blaming my parents for me being overweight, lol), is that a lot of it is mental, and how your environment shapes you mentally, has an effect on you as you grow up.

People say, well, just don't eat as much. Ok, but then you pretty much end up starving and lose muscle mass, and male or female, who likes some waifish stick figure? (sarcasm, since I know lots of guys like those kind of girls). But, it's difficult, and it's hard to explain the problem I have so I will try and be as clear as much as possible, it's difficult when your mind is used to a certain portion size and you are trying to tell your mind that the portion size you grew up with is too much, and you should actually cut it down. I've gotten a lot better with this whenever I get meats, I have to size it to the size of my fist, which seems like a relatively healthy portion. That seems to work for me, but I am not saying it will work for everyone. I also do cardio 5 times a week for 45 minutes, alternating between sprinting and walking, but again, that is what seems to work for me (I also play rugby in and among the personal fitness, lots of running there, lots!)

Amazing that this idea of what is a BBW has turned into a fitness discussion, but it's cool, there's some wicked knowledgeable people in here, and I've figured out some new ideas to incorporate into my workout. Overall, it's a mental thing. There are very few people in the world who are 100% fit. Very rare actually. Even bodybuilders let themselves go a little bit in their offseason because it's somewhat detrimental I think to be that lean year round. If you identify as being Big & Beautiful, that's cool, if not, well, that's cool too. Whether it is fair or not, I don't know. There are lots of people who identify themselves as athletic but they don't seem very athletic and a host of people who identify as average (But really, if you want to stick out, why would you say you are "average?"). And this post is so long I doubt anyone will read it, ha!

because the legs are approximately 405+ of your total muscle mass and building them is the single most metabolic boosting thing you can do. The second choice is back training.

Swuatting heavy and big keeps muscle, muscle raises BMR, higher BMR more calories from fat burned at rest = leaner body with less effort.

Losing weight is vastly different to losing Bodyfat which in turn leads to a more positive body composition. If you had a pair of identical twins and one weighed 140lbs lean and one was 140 lbs fat, one would have lose BF and one would not. It also helps to fight possible loose skin as you have something there to prop it up when the fat goes away.

This is all pretty academic.

Now I feel like an idiot. All this time I figured, well, I have big strong legs from playing football, no point in training them. Dang. Now I better get back to training them. If only I can get over my fear of how paralyzed I will feel the next day.

I didn't know guys could feel like this......

I doubt there's a guy on this website who hasn't woken up the night after a drunken binge, looked at what he shacked up with, and silently vomitted in his mouth.

We all do it. Most people have done it. It is very common. As the saying goes "Alcohol was created so ugly people could get laid."

Time with the family
Posted: 6/30/2009 5:10:00 PM
Depends on how I viewed my wife. If my wife was always haggling me to spend time with the family and cutting into my personal time, then option B.

If she respected me, then there wouldn't be any options, since obviously I'd be holding a celebration for my child, where all my friends would be gathered with their wives and children.

What Ive discovered about the living at home issue
Posted: 6/7/2009 7:34:42 PM
Actually, I would think the living at home thing would be a problem. But more and more people live at home in this generation than in the past. It's a different way of doing things.

I'm talking to a girl who lives at home. I have no problems with it, I mean, hey I have my own place, so what do I care? As long as their folks don't get weird or anything. Especially with this recession, it is understandable.

couple of emails then poof.

Women get more responses than men. It's a proven fact. And let's be real here. If they have to choose between you and a guy with six pack abs, who are they going to keep emailing? THINK ABOUT IT! It doesn't matter how quirky your wit is.

I don't even message people anymore. If they like something about my profile, they can message me. There are so many women, I don't even know exactly what type I am looking for.

Besides, at least you made it a few emails and just didn't get the "Unread Deleted." Oooh, that one always stings.

Yeah, I don't know why anyone would pay for something you can get for free. I see a gold star, I think they are fools if they paid for it.

What about the personal ads on Craigslist?
Posted: 3/7/2009 1:32:34 AM
Truth. Tons of spam responses. Sometimes I put out an ad and just get spam. Other times i get responses.

One thing it has taught me is that this whole dating thing is more than just pictures. Physically, I was into this one chick I meet, but personality wise, we completely clashed and I couldn't keep the charade up.

I am about to go out on a date with a girl I met from craigslist. It's better than POF, that's for sure. It seems that the more I message someone here, the less we are able to meet.

I have an honest question
Posted: 1/31/2009 2:42:57 PM
Asking for a last name so easily is a bit premature. Though if people add you to Facebook, you already will know it anyways.

Just stick with first names. Because I don't really want people knowing my last name without me getting to know them. What if you turn out to be a psychopath. In a city like New York, it wouldn't be so bad, considering it is so huge, but if it were a po-dunk little town, well, that can be off putting.

when is young, too young?
Posted: 1/19/2009 12:52:24 PM
Personally, as long as you are not in high school, then I don't mind. Since I'm a teacher, that would be quite creepy.

Sometimes I think about what age someone would be if I was in high school. So...when I was 15, you'd be 3, eh...

I'm not against it, I just wonder what we would do. I guess in a sense, I could save money, since I couldn't bring an 18 yr old to a bar.
