What to do in Hollywood, Beverly Hills & Malibu California?
Posted: 6/22/2009 4:17:28 AM
My favorite day when I visited California was my day trip to Catalina Island. Such a beautiful place! I went by helicopter but you can go by boat too. We ate a lovely meal on a deck by the water while watching the fish swimming below! And the 'sub' was great too. You sit under water level amongst the kelp forest and get to feed the fish. And you can hire a golf buggy and explore the island too. There's lots more to do but that was all we had time for.

ahh the memories

anything that reduces global warming sounds good to me.
but as with most things, i think the people who will take any notice of it will be the sort of people who are already cutting back on the energy they use.
the one's who say it wont make any difference will carry on as normal.
thats my veiw anyway.

4x4 bashing
Posted: 3/14/2008 7:46:31 AM

It's not the 4x4 that is dangerous for other motorists and pedestrians it's the person driving and their mistakes that is dangerous, regardless of the vehicle

isnt that the same arguement that guns dont kill people? sigh

i was going to say that 4x4s are more dangerous for others motorists and pedestrians but am losing the will to live. you'd probably say it was thier own fault for getting in the way.

i need a lie down

you can buy a 5 year old 4x4 (or large car) for less than a new smart car......so that blows that theory out of the water.

Er not exactly, 18 mpg? £600.00 for a set of tyres?, £1000.00 for a major service? it's about affording to run the thing not just buy it.

you choose to waste....sorry, spend....all this money on your car. so why moan about a few more pounds?

and if its a free country, surely we can knock 4x4s if we want to?

a tip for anyone visiting barcelona
Posted: 3/14/2008 3:50:32 AM
I just thought i'd mention this on here. a friend of mine has just come home from a few days in Barcelona and had the worst time ever. she went as part of group of females and 3 attempts were made at snatching their bags, the 1st time was as they had only just got off the bus . there's a major problem with people praying on tourists in this city (as in others i'm sure).
I just thought i'd post this in case anyone was thinking of visiting barcelona in the future

Some people goes for a small midget car because they could not afford the big car..

You can fit your average family of four in a citroen 2cv or a mini !

I get me and 3 teenagers and shopping in my corsa without any problems. I've had minis in the past too....because i like them, not because i cant afford anything else. bang goes that theory too.

but anyhowwwwww, each to their own. if people want to keep up with their american cousins (and we know how sensible thay are ) then why not?

Those muppetts in shorts and sandals/flip flops in winter
Posted: 3/11/2008 4:51:01 AM
i still dont get it OP ???
your debate seems to come down to wearing summer clothes in the winter when its cold.
but you blow your theory saying its ok for girls to dress scantily because they are 'on the pull'.
there's nothing wrong with wearing shorts and sandals in the winter if thats what you're comfortable in. ok, not everyone suits this look, especially if their legs dont look good, but that applies to girls in short skirts too!

Travelling - Is is fair to expect one person to do it all?
Posted: 3/11/2008 1:58:35 AM
depends on the couple and the circumstances really.
i had a relationship with a guy in california (i'm in wales) and we saw each other about 8 times in just over a year. he came here mostly but i went there twice. i would have gone over more if i could afford it but he was happy to come here.
he finished it in the end, mostly blaming the distance (even though he'd talked about us making it more perminent) but i didnt have a problem with the distance.
loved him, loved california and love travelling! so where's the problem?! yah me!

why shouldnt a 4x4 stall on a speed bump? are you serious. 4x4 is designed to drive up steep mountains without problems. don't you watch the ads?

and no i don't stall on speed bumps coz i drive correctly i.e. in the right gear!

i think a lot of people miss the point. i think the government puts high taxes on bigger cars because they want to encourage people to buy smaller cars. ok its a way of taxing the poor because anyone with enough money wont give a damn about the increase. at the end of the day everyone can choose what car they drive. i mean, why do you really need a 4x4 to get around london? to get over the speed bumps maybe? I actually saw a woman stall her 4x4 on a speedbump recently. omg i laughed!
at least i can sleep at night knowing some ' long haired hippyish looking character' wont be sticking any notes on my 75mpg corsa in a hurry

oh, and if they got rid of mcdonalds that would probably half the amount of cows on the planet, therefore cutting down on CO2 so if u want to keep your car stop eating burgers

i was very sad to hear this news.

just to say, i think the national enquirer said patrick swayze has weeks to live and other papers picked up on it. although he's sick he's still working and has a bit longer than that to go, although the long term prognosis with this type of cancer isnt good.

i dont know if i believe myself because i've never had any proof of anything and would be scared out of my skin anyway. but i keep open minded.

something a bit odd happened at work the other day. i work in a hotel and am very fussy with making beds. you could bounce a coin off them. lol but when i came out of the bathroom there was what looked like a bum print on the bed. how cheeky!
didnt mention it to anyone because they would tell me i was daft!

Should deaf people be able to choose deaf IVF embryos instead of hearing?
Posted: 3/10/2008 7:04:51 AM
i agree with willow. i'm sure they have coped very well with their deafness but why would you want to inflict that on a child? i mean it's one thing for people to pick out embryos that DONT have anything wrong with them. delibratly chosing ones which will lead to something as not being able to hear seems like the hieght of selfishness.

and yes, being called tomato seems a bit odd

Does Real Customer Services/Care Still Exist?
Posted: 3/8/2008 11:51:35 PM
is there a list anywhere of companies that are run from the UK?
i want to change my ISP but everyone seems to have a bad experience with all of them so i'm confused who to go with.

talking of the earlier post about hotels giving away money.... i work in a hotel where a couple of weeks ago a woman was very upset because she found ciggerette butts (?) in her kettle.
without any investigation she was given a full refund. only afterwards housekeeping checked the report from the day before that said that room had been checked by a supervisor after cleaning and everything was ok. the old woman had only done it herself and they immediatly put it down to poor cleaning!

oh, and while i'm on the subject....thanks to the person who threw up on their bed and carpet yesterday (obviously a lot of red wine involved, yuck) you could have left a tip, or even a note saying sorry would have been enough!

ok, rant over

Marrying your first.
Posted: 3/8/2008 10:59:16 PM
i met my first when i was 16. married him at 19. left him at 33.
the 1st 12 years ago were great. we had 3 great kids and i have some very happy memories of that. but 1 day i woke up and realised he was still the same 18 year old i had met and i had grown up.
i left with nothing (didnt fight for the house, my biggest mistake ever) and have bought up the kids by myself since. haven't had a penny from him since.

Should heavily pregnant women go out boogying or stay at home where they are 'safe'?
Posted: 3/5/2008 10:47:04 PM
I agree with tose 2 last answers. i wouldnt personally want to go to a club is i was heavily pregnant but i dont like clubs anyway
yes there are risks, like getting knocked over by some drunken idiot, but you could get knocked over by someone in the street running for a bus.
i think as long as you are being sensible and know your limits then its fine.

Police catch your child drinking
Posted: 3/5/2008 10:41:27 PM
just to clarify what someone said about giving under 18s alcohol being illegal..
the law says it is illegal to give a child under 5 alcohol. Children under 16 cannot drink in pubs, which suggests its not against the law to give them a drink at home. 16 and 17 year olds can be given a drink with a meal in a pub as long as its not spirits.
hope that clears it up!

i'm not condoning kids getting drunk in public. my 15 yo daughter did it recently and hope she learned her lesson. but countries in Europe have given children wine with meals for generations and it hasnt done them any harm (although i'm sure there are exceptions)

do you know france has just bought the word 'binge' into their language because they didnt have their own word to discribe heavy drinking?

doesnt it make u proud to be British? :frustrated:
