A math question: Is there any way to increase your odds when buying lottery tickets?
Posted:
11/20/2009 9:47:33 AM
first off ... lottery tickets are not an investment.
strictly gambling
if your any good at psychic ability ... then use it if you think its okay to profit by it.
as for the odds.... every ticket has the same odds
more tickets mean the same odds with more tickets.
one group did buy all the ticket combinations on a big lottery and ended up losing big.
if its in your cards to win
you only need 1 ticket

1=1 Is it a fact a theory or both?
Posted:

1=1 as long as they are not different one's
and the idea is strictly by convention
we agreed that life would be easier to arrange if we did this one simple thing of allowing equality.
then we even went so far as to make a whole set of symbols that evolved into mathematics.
as Bill Cosby said ... "what's a 2?"

How can you prove soul exists after death?

^^ its a personal thing and proves it to yourself ...
taking us back to ... you must die ... if only for a moment
until we find a way to actually measure these things with our science
others will say these experiences are not proof
[no matter ... for it just shows their lack of faith in the human experience being passed on verbally from one to another]

semantics
depends on your definition of god
depends on what you mean by always
and what you think existance is
and if there really is a past outside of thought to even use the word has
so its a bit of a trick question with no set answer

a little moving forward blindly borders on epiphany
this life and time seems to always change
so we take a step backward contemplating sympathy
with dreams and rhymes to rearrange
for a moment we think we've found that peace
time stands still inside this bliss
like that lone black sheep who lost his fleece
when he's gone he won't be missed

be prepared.

ah but then with deconstruction / reconstruction theory of movement through time ... the tape could be altered.

well shape shifter ... I mean name shifter.
if you change "bible" to
"life"
and take out "his' completely ... [ god is not a he ... that is a child's concept ]
I wll agree with the statement.

nothing else is needed if you follow those two things.
Noah is a myth ... there was no world scale flood

the story of Moses is a embelished history story
It is all there for a reason... to extort you into following some power mongers pretending to speak for god.

just a moment down the road
dodging all the frogs and toads

My question would be .... why?
when in society its already been done
people make their own vows ... even in church weddings.
they also get divorces from church weddings.
the bible as a way of life is bordering on extinction
if it wants to recover it need to be reformatted completely.
the history stories need to be separated from the societal moral examples and clearly explained as such to stop the morons from preaching that dramatizations are real.
the poetry and song need to be stated presented as art and not factual word of god.
they need to admit that there is very little example in the whole book that claims to have conversed with god and that all the rest is dreams and wishful thinking.
[to stop all the morons from preaching that all these redundant passages are the word of god when they are just redundant attempts at explaining how society would get along together better]
I too have read and reread the bible with various life experiences changing my view.
with education and age I can see it much better for what it is and was.
[early campfire children’s stories and an attempt by the educated at curtailing some of the uneducated and inbred from debasing society]
I still say there are only two verses in the NT that we need and all the rest is redundant and to most people confusing the issues.
Love thy Neighbour
Do unto others as you would have done unto you.
No other message is necessary and the rest of the book and all church buildings could be scrapped for any purpose other than being a community center.

show some resilliance

That thar statement requires some elaboration, of the particle or quantum physics kind. Do you have it?
well smarty ... yes and I'm sure anyone at Los Almos with half a brain already knows them.
the simple one is ... there is more space than matter in every atom in your body and in the wall ... way more.
just forces keeping them seperated and seemingly solid.
therefor theoretically you could walk though walls
the second theory is the construction deconstruction theory of movement through time that could also possibly allow this to happen.
as for your other wasted space ramble. ... your constant ... socialism\communism link still makes you look like you equate the two in all your talks on this forum so ... hence you look like you just don't comprehend others statements and that you believe that socialism can only be communism, despite your huge argument that you do understand these things.
and your little colloquialism looks more like bad sarcasm and mocking someone else.
action speaks louder than words ... and your actions betray you.
looks like your just digging a deeper hole
and that idea that Jesus was a democrat is definately out there with socalist.
I'm stickin with humanitarian.

its a shame much like always keeping score
the boards sometimes warp with all that sun and rain

although constant expansion fits our picture of the universe
remember sometimes your vehicle need to go in reverse

can't really take being alone
standing without you
trying now to connect by phone
though that won't really do

together we're plenty

holding hands in the forest
walking along the trails

for all will stay behind as we leave this sheltered plane
the name too will be lost to deeds of the past

and for the tenth time proved your lack of comprehension of socialistic ideas.
much like your country is not a pure democracy
there is no pure socialism
no pure communism
not work with degrees of implementation ... then maybe you will get a degree ... but I have my doubts.
saying something over and over does not make it correct ...

Paul
why do you even bother with the comments showing your lack of comprehension
Krebbi ...
there ya go again linking socialism and communism like a person with so many degrees that still lacks comprehension of degrees of implementation.
You don't seem to understand I'm not equating the US with socialism only pointing out minor aspects of socialism in your country...
you guys sure look shallow in your level of understanding. or
just biggoted enough to never admit being wrong.
sorry state of affairs there.
and your freedom of expression is not in question ... just the maturity of its use.
and the use of that lowest form of humour ... sarcasm. or even worse if it was meant to mock someone than its just rude and hence ... going to your own devices of ...the spankings. [attempt at light endearment ... but wasted i see ... so no more]
if you think socialism is equated with communism then your degrees didn't do a thing for your understanding of politics or reality.
maybe you should skedaddle back to the library

Well, about them utilities, police force, army and whether they are a reflection of socialism. They are "public goods" and were the reason that the guvmint was allowed to have any involvement in the state's affairs in the first place -- that and the other stuff strictly outlined in the Constitution. STRICTLY speaking, pure capitalism could survive without public goods, but common sense would tell you otherwise, especially when it comes to defense, and them fellers who wrote the constitution were practical as well as smart. Police, fire, protection, one could theoretically privatize it, but that would mean that some folks would be defenseless. Infrastructure -- there again, one could theoretically have a privatized series of roads, bridges, etc., but it just doesn't practically turn out to be realistic.
so ... theoretically we could walk through walls
so what?
"public goods" in the constitution
therefor your constitution allows for "socalistic ideas".
live with it.
you have not provided any argument against them being socialistic ideas
saying they are good common sense ...
only supports the idea that some socialism is good common sense.
live with it.
there is not evil in it.
spank spank. [goes for your sarcastic childish misspelling of words too]

this gravity pool idea though would still leave the problem of all those meteors and asteroids needed to raise the mass of the earth to double its size pummeling the surface so much in the last 200 million years that everything would be shattered on the surface ... this would definately show geologically.

Scorpio .... I agree with you on his probability flaw ... but feel probability has little to do with the I.D. argument having any strength anyway. ... since pre existance is infinite the idea that it will occur is easy to grasp and also in the fact that its here ... so it beat the odds .. also not really sure how Penrose came up with his probabilty with out being almost pure speculation or at least a huge presumption.
His argument of other life and mentioning 50% is a bit silly as I see it and does only hurt his overall argument's credibility by mentioning it.
it was his entropy argument that caught me ...
and yes a mental patient saying it would not make a difference if the facts looked right.
Although there is this feeling as I read and reread his entropy argument that he twists it into being backwards ... although it still looks better than similar arguments on here for the same idea.
Might be slight of hand though as you say ... but disection would show that better than just saying its wrong.
.................................................. I always appreciate you and Stargazer bantering back and forth since your both able put into words thoughts others of us find hard to express at times.<img src=http://www.plentyoffish.com/smiles/icon_201.gif border=0>
=============== my analysis =============
point 1... first law ... looks good ... matter antimatter = Zero
point 2 ... second law ... entropy .. same or increases
............................... if same then doesn't matter as you go back to origin ... chaos rules ... no design
............................... if increasing ... then yes more order at get go ... still does not prove design ... only more order than now and things are blowing up all the time so ... we happened to start with a big one
I don't see where he goes back with to maximum entropy when if its increasing going forward ... going back would decrease it ... that's where I see him messing up.
I also don't see this need for constant volume to complete the previous arguments.
I also don't see substantiation of a black hole being maximum entropy when in actuality it may be maximum order ... we don't know.
I sort of think he should have shut up and not kept rambling.
basicly it neither proves or disproves but does show an attempt at explaining a belief in something from nothing without a creator
p.s. the article was mainly to try and show why I.D. did not belong in science class ... though this debate should probably be put into school in a religions of the world class.

The western was run by crazies in the end period ...
inbreeding and poisoned by too much lead
they put lead in their wine to sweeten it ... and drank it out of lead goblits ...
the amount of lead in the bones of the ruling class was 3 to 5 times higher than we thought even possible before studying the little remains we have found.

do you have a common army
do you have a community fire department
do you have a police department.
do you have a public school system
do you have public works departments
do you have state owned roads and parks
[participation in supporting them not being voluntary]
you support socialism to a degree ...
even if you cannot wrap your brain around it.
... socialist governments are voted in and vote too ...
so what they do is not totally involuntary
also ... Mao China ....
and Stalin Russia ... was Communism
yet both different in their interpretations of Communism
they also vote inside the party so are not totally undemocratic
Sweeden is Socialism but far from Marxist Socialism ...
equating the two is absurd, naive, and shallowly biggoted.
geeze ... are you guys lost in your own biggoted ideas that mix up socialism with communism and marxism ... you might as well add fascism to the list of its all the same evil.
Others want to put Capitolism on that list of evils.
no pure system works in reality ... we need to mix and match
but I see so many around here don't want to deal with reality and just love to try and bully their misconceptions on others
I realize this posting will not fix false concepts of socialism in some but it may help others ignore the bully tactics.

well I sure can't go for the gravity thing....
the earth's mass would not have changed that much even if the size in diameter did.
there is no way we could have gained the extra mass without a lot of asteroid crashes of such proportion that there would be little evidence of anything left. ...
I always figured the diameter of the pacific plate and the moon were so close that that is where the collision ocured. [just a thought]

come on now Moana .... we have been studying human actions - reactions and history and recording what has been happening for longer than the bible has been in publication.
if you don't know from past mistakes your a moron and will just continue to make the same mistakes dispite what some book pretends is the word of god but was written by men...[ not even women]. ... I'm surprised a woman would be so blindly spouting misunderstanding of it.

i can see truth when high as a kite
flying over the fields of mice
watching sheep line up for fast food
no worry of farts being rude
smiling and waving at those I meet
sometime even using my feet
laughing at things that nobody can see
enjoying every minute I'm allowed to be me

i see no hatred in forum's posting.... it must be in your heart then
afraid of someone with a different concept of Jesus than you.
really its your problem and no wrath of god will fall on anyone that does not have the same ideas you do
if any wrath falls it probably would be on those promoting misunderstood teachings
those trying to put words in god's mouth when god does bother to talk to us at all.
that's part of free will ... you have to make your own moral decissions and not rely on a god to put those words in your mouth.

thats because you do not understand the issue. It does not take faith to reject an unfalsyfiable claim
and you think that because you don't understand the meaning of the word faith as pointed out previously to you.
then you ramble on about some crap about religion that you don't understand and has nothing to do with the point I made...
just proves my point more.
you ramble on thinking I am arguing religion when I'm just arguing how stupid the zeal of these athiest arguments look.

Souls ascending to God; lost and found
trolls depending on odds; tossed or bound
there used to be plenty of fish in the seas
now we are hard pressed to meet needs
is starvation the destiny of this sorry flock
waiting with anticipation on a wrotting dock

I do find it funny Scorp ... how athiests seem to have such strong faith in their disbelief.
and charge with such religious zeal for the anti religion stance.
it boggles my mind with what looks like hypocracy.

Rocket ... good point.
maybe the change in the core actually has increased the magnetic field by spinning faster... though I do believe geology has a pretty good handle on the earth's magnetic field fluxuations in the past including momentary collapses and polar shifts.
since recently the earth's magnetic field has been weakening in preparation for another polar shift . [averaging every 600,000 years] the Van Allen belts should be getting closer to the earth anyways ... [right? or not?]

The 'reckless disregard' is meant to say that those who attempt to politicize the Christ for their own agenda, be it socialist or otherwise
well most of that seems to come from the so called Christian camp
Neither HE nor the church he founded
he did not found a church ... Peter and Paul did.
he wasn't into churches.
As far as enlightenment is concerned, it is apparent that you do not believe it possible because you have already dismissed the source, either me or the church.
Either way, I am not interested in your personal welfare
enlightment only coming from ... you .... [ha ha]
or the church ..... ....
that is a bit delusional and definitely arrogant ....
its not name calling ...
its a simple observation.
and books to check out is nice but thinking they are necessary for a valid opinion in a discussion is totally elitist and actually shallow.
you have not impressed with your defensive argument of justification of your position.
and that final part of that quoted statement ....
I am not interested in your personal welfare
comes off as unchristian and not very humanitarian either ...
losing more credence [in my opinion anyway]
I still don't believe anyone by the name of "Jesus of Nazareth" really existed ...
its a pseudonym to protect his real family if that prophet existed at all outside of the fabrication of the Church in its compilation of books from hearsay.
Nice story of what I would call a humanitarian ... not a socialist.
do unto others as you would have done unto you
love thy neighbour
you can skip all other scripture [its just backfill]
now there is enlightenment for you
[ how's that for my arrogance ... I don't consider it name calling ]

well the gene argument is a good one ... but as Wilson said it does not negate group selection when in fact it may be what passes on the ability of group selection.
Dawkins ... as Wilson said in his essay ... is so blindly athiest that he cannot follow true reason in his arguments and is making himself look like a zealot and as uncredulous as any extreemist religious fool.
I'm not a Dawking fan because of it ... and Wilson makes much more sense.
