What's the difference between the Toronto Maple Leafs and a triangle?

The triangle has 3 points!

Now THAT's the best line in the NHL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Tragedy of Phoenix Sinclair .......

I see you navigated off the Autobahn long enough to send another response from your Blackberry!

Why is it the reaction is to rant instead of first actually finding out *why* it is relevant.

Two things come to mind. One: that's human nature. Two: Are you new to internet message boards?

This city ESPECIALLY prone to ranting about things without ever trying to understand it.

nah........I really don't think Winnipeg's any different than any other locale where the general populace is getting more and more scared, angry, and frustrated every day by the increasingly vile actions that we see other "humans" commit.

CGG.......yes, it may be stupid.....but for some reason, everytime I see you post as a Captain/potential stalker from Germany who is looking to hook up with a "young, slim, attractive and lovely girl" and claims to "have a big surprise ready for you at standby".......I find myself laughing so hard I almost lose bladder control.

On topic, though.......you clearly have a much better understanding of the law than the vast majority of us (as you should, it being your profession and all)........I just think that a lot of the comments posted, while they may represent a lack of understanding of the legal system's various ins and outs....... do represent a general distaste for the way the system works, and the perceived focus on the rights of the accused, versus the rights of the victim and the average member of the population. I really think that there's a tremendous amount of people out there who are so frustrated with the perceived lack of justice in cases such as this (note that I say "perceived"), that there is no faith whatsoever left in the legal system within which you work. Hence, comments such as Susan's ongoing comparison between a "justice" system and a "legal" system. I guess what I'm trying to say is, you can try to explain the legalities as much as you want, but the simple truth is, there is a segment of the population who simply won't care whether you're right or wrong. In internet forums, that segment is likely an even larger percentage than it would be outside of the resident geniuses on the internet.

As for Peek..........I realized some time ago that I could either spend an inordinate amount of time trying to decipher her writing style, or just accept that her style ain't gonna change anytime soon and not bother trying to find the Rosetta Stone that would translate what she says into a language I can understand.

if the fire was caused by illegal smoking, the smoker may have covered the smoke detector to keep it from operating correctly.

Have they determined that illegal smoking was the cause? I heard a rumour it was started by two sticks being rubbed together.

Ok, here's all you need to know about why the CBC should be allowed to go the way of the dodo bird.............

If you go to any situation where reporters are covering a news story, you will invariably find some dramatic differences between the CBC and their competitors.

The reporter from the CBC will be accompanied by a camera operator, a sound guy, and usually another stooge or two.

The reporters from the other networks may have one camera guy assisting, but more often than not the reporter is accompanied by no one other than a tripod and a camera.....they set up their own shots, write their own stories, and operate the camera on their own.

In other words, the CBC pays 3-5 people to do what the private broadcasters do with 1-2 people. Same story, same 30 seconds to 1 minute on the evening news. And, in my opinion, no discernible difference in the quality of the presentation.

The private broadcasters have had to learn to make do with what they can, and operate within budgets, in order to make a profit.

Their competitors, the CBC (Commies Broadcasting in Canada), operate under vague and nebulous "budgets" with no real accountability, other than ensuring that they continue to suck at the taxpayer teet and hold onto their overpaid, underperforming jobs.

For another example, eheck out how many people used to work a CFL game for the CBC, vs. how many would work one for TSN. It would take almost twice as many CBC employees to broadcast a football game.

CBC has gotten fat and lazy (I'd argue they've always been this way), while the private broadcasters have learned how to do the job better and more efficiently. So why are we still propping up an archaic institution that is inefficient, outdated, served its purpose in 1955 but is no longer relevant, and really adds nothing to the overall landscape of Canadiana other than the ability to use their apparently unending source of wide angle lenses to keep producing Rita McNeil specials? I mean, really..........does anyone need to see Rita in high definition?

timeless...........come over to the dark side........we have cookies.

On topic.........I'm currently on day 9 of Champix, first time I've tried it...........smoking has cut down but my quit date will be next Tuesday, hopefully.........but gads, I can't seem to get to sleep until 2 or 3 in the morning since I've been taking the Champix, has anyone else had that experience? Does it go away after awhile of being on Champix? I'm a bit concerned about the sleeplessness, as the overall program is, I believe, 18 weeks.

ya, what a shame.

You know, I was giving Kelly the benefit of the doubt........I agreed with the whole Armstrong thing, and a lot of the other moves. And the ones I didn't agree with, I could at least rationalize as growing pains that are necessary for overall progress to be made.

However, when I hear a guy like Barrin Simpson, who is a class act and a team leader who's extremely respected in and out of the locker room.......not to mention a great football player.......when I hear that he wants out, and the Bombers seem to be playing games with him..........well, that more than anything has really got me re-thinking my support of Kelly and Bauer and the direction they are taking this team.

Random acts of Kindness....
Posted: 9/17/2009 6:44:03 AM

I think everyone does acts of kindness throughout life but doesn't talking about it detract from the kindness?

I'm in absolute agreement, Duds.

Somebody told me a long time ago.......try doing something nice for someone else........and then don't tell anyone else about what you did. I guess one could also say, don't post it on a message board and don't stand on the rooftops and yell to everyone about this great thing that you did.

Sometimes I find this difficult to do....I think I like to be acknowledged for this kind of stuff.......but I've come to understand that as my ego acting up......so I can just try to practice that kind of behavior without having any expectations. And on the occasions when I can do something nice without expecting something in return, it feels pretty good.

Once, Chuck Norris was stopped by a squeegee kid, who asked for a hand.

Chuck Norris said "how about a foot instead", and proceeded to roundhouse kick the guy through the side of the building across the street.

No problem, Tempt.........I had my 10 year old step-daughter go back and translate your post for me!

Who said Armstrong was a problem all along? Maybe it was one isolated incident, that was unfortunately so appalling that they had to cut him right away. Isn't that what you're looking for - as soon as they find a "bad attitude", Kelly cut him.

As for Roberts, actually, you're proving my point. Don't forget, Roberts' antics were in place before he was even a proven starter.........his first couple of years he saw spot duty and returned kicks. So he was given the chance to mature, which for the most part he did.........and turned into one of the best running backs this league ever saw. If Bauer et al were worried about marketing vs. fielding the best team, wouldn't you think they would have just cut him loose long before he took over as the number one running back? I would say, they saw the potential and believed in him, and lo and behold they were rewarded with his performance. In other words, they put fielding the best team possible ahead of marketing concerns.

Look, Tempt......you and I can go back and forth on this forever.........but at the end of the day, neither you nor I actually knows what goes on in the locker room, the coach's office, and the front office. All we can do is speculate.

In my opinion.....have the Bombers made some poor moves? Absolutely! But is it the result of not putting the on-field product as the priority as you suggest? That's where you and I really disagree.

Ya but people! Armstrong is gone ! Right?
Why? Because he is a "quiter"?
I hardly think so.

Well, don't take offense to what I'm about to say, Tempt..........but I think the words of someone who is actually in the locker room (Doug Brown in his column) has a lot more weight to it than your theories. He called Armstrong out in the paper.......he never called Westwood out in the paper when all the crap was flying......so for a team-mate to actually put something in print like that.....that tells me that the situation with Armstrong was pretty serious. And as for why it wasn't dealt with before the season.......maybe Armstrong wasn't a problem until he was asked to "not start"......once he became a problem, Kelly really didn't have any choice.......to keep Armstrong would have sent an awful message to his team, so I think Kelly was backed into a corner. I agree with Santek that Armstrong might help the offense......too bad he let his ego get in the way and threw his own career under the bus.

I hate to suggest this but some of you have very short memories and I don't think you fully appreciate how much sacrifice and effort some players have put in.

Sorry, think you're off the mark here too. Ya, there were all sorts of things said about Roberts.....but those things were being said long before he was traded...........he was a superstar even with all his lifestyle choices, he would have likely had another 5 years of that level of performance if he paid more attention to his body. You seem to be the one who forgets all the missed flights, problems with coaches, etc. that was happening through the first five years or so of his career. Had Bauer and Taman not believed in him, he never would have made it through the first few years of his career with his attitude as it was.

We keep bringing up players who aren't here anymore..........maybe we should be focused on the ones who are here instead.

I've tried to stay away from this thread, because as others are now discovering, trying to debate anything with the Rainman is completely pointless.

However, I just had to comment on what Dano said.........

A couple of weeks ago, Doug Brown wrote in his weekly column in the Free Press about how Armstrong basically quit on his team.......his apparently fragile ego couldn't handle going in as a sub, and not starting......Brown basically called Armstrong a quitter and said that he lost the respect of his team mates after that stunt.....so if anyone thinks that Kelly ran him out of town for any reason other than the fact that Armstrong acted in a selfish, self absorbed way that was not conducive to him being part of a team........think again!

Well, as part of my job, I do a lot of hiring and interviewing of potential employees.

I absolutely do check references. However, I would never ask, and certainly not browbeat, someone for a reference from the current job. I understand that there are many difficulties that a potential employee would face from me contacting their current employer. If they don't get the job from me, and I had contacted their employer, now the fact that they are out looking for another job is public knowledge at their place of employment.

If a prospective employee does list someone from their current place of employment, I will contact that reference, but only after I've double checked with the employee during the interview to make sure it's alright.

The other aspect of references is that frequently they are vague........employers are bound to be careful with respect to what they disclose. Typically, when I get called for a reference on someone who used to work for me, all I will do is confirm their tenure of employment.

Printer, my take on your situation.......if a representative of the company that you were interviewing with was that aggressive about what was obviously a sensitive issue to you...........is that the type of company that you'd really want to work for anyways?

went to the Cuban pavilion last night, and actually found it kind of meh...........food was just ok, entertainment was good.

The Italian Pavilion had great food...........entertainment was ok, although there was one girl who sang an operatic number who was absolutely amazing.

Highlight of the night, though, was the African/Caribbean Pavilion.......food was great (jerk chicken and various rotis for those who like it hot, like me!).......the atmosphere was kinda laid back with a great band.........and the limbo dancer was terrific. The crowd seemed more into the performance than at any other pavilion I visited.

The problem is that we have an uneducated public that listens and retains government hype and has no desire to do the research and understand the truth. This is exactly what big government depends on to control a population of 350,000,000!

looking at this again..........I dunno, I'm no apologist for big government, but I just don't understand what a government would possibly have to gain by suggesting that inbreeding carries certain risks. A fewer number of hutterite colonies, perhaps?

What happens if they 'kinda' do it? Is that the same if they 'kinda not' did it?

See, I think that opens up far too much gray area, and I think the originator of the whole "they will or they won't" scenario is more of a black and white kinda guy.

Personally, though, I think this opens up an entirely new realm of possibilities. For instance...........

............if they do decide to do it, they will either do so in a place.......or in another place.

..........they may decide on a time for the dirty deed to occur, or they may in fact settle on a different time. Think about it.

..........they will either indulge in foreplay.......or they won't

.........they may still respect each other in the morning. Or not. One of the two.

Chuck Norris Facts

Chuck Norris can break all of the POF posting rules and not get sent to banned camp!

Well, maybe this is true for the real Chuck Norris. I have discovered through painful experience, however, that just taking the guy's name does not render me impervious to the banned camp experience.

On a related note:

Some people get lucky and kill two birds with one stone. Chuck Norris once killed four birds with half a stone. What's that? You say there's no such thing as half a stone? The four dead birds didn't think so either.
