Abortion and the reasons for having one...........
Posted:

Those images are shocking, Pantsonfire. They do make the case for abortions though and I agree with your comment.
Before anyone uses the argument that 'people shouldn't use drugs while pregnant', keep in mind, many drugs that caused severe birth defects were prescription drugs prescribed by a physician and not illegal drugs.
So when can a life really be described as 'living'? Terminally ill individuals want to exit early when the quality of life deteriorates, so why would any baby want to live such a terrible life (as seen in the videos)? Just because some people feel it's 'murder' to terminate a pregnancy doesn't make it so. It's up to the potential parents and not outsiders.

Isn't this what everyone's been waiting for? I'm surprised this thread isn't buzzing.
Caylee's mom named in murder indictment
* Story Highlights
* NEW: Mother arrested in traffic stop after swapping cars on highway
* Casey Anthony faces seven-count indictment that includes capital murder charge
* Grand jury heard from police, dog handler, FBI agent, missing child's grandfather
* Caylee Anthony reported missing in July, about a month after last known sighting

Nancy Grace Producer
ORLANDO, Florida (CNN) -- The mother of missing Florida toddler Caylee Anthony was arrested Tuesday in a traffic stop, shortly after a grand jury indicted her on seven counts, including capital murder, for the disappearance of her 3-year-old daughter.
Casey Anthony was taken to jail after officers observed her switch cars on a highway and pulled her over, an Orange County Sheriff's Department spokesman said.
Earlier Tuesday, Anthony's lawyer said his client would turn herself in if the grand jury returned an indictment against her.
"She's not running from this," attorney Jose Baez said as his 22-year-old client wiped tears from her eyes during an impromptu media briefing before the charges against her were announced. "She's doing her best to stand strong, to stand up to the powers that are working against her. And they threw the kitchen sink at her a long time ago."
After the indictment, undercover officers followed Anthony as she traveled in her mother's SUV. The officers saw the SUV stop under a highway overpass, at which point Anthony got into another vehicle and drove off. Officers made the traffic stop after she entered the second vehicle, the spokesman said.
Prosecutors are asking Anthony be held without bond.
Anthony is charged with first-degree murder, aggravated child abuse, aggravated manslaughter of a child and four counts of providing false information to police. VideoWatch Nancy Grace: Did mom try to flee arrest? »
Lawson Lamar, the state attorney for Orange County, Florida, said the first count is a capital charge -- which could carry a penalty of life in prison or death.
The 19 grand jurors -- 10 women and nine men -- deliberated for about half an hour after hearing from police, a cadaver dog handler, an FBI agent and the missing child's grandfather.
Authorities were quick to remind the public that, despite the indictment, Caylee's whereabouts remain a mystery.
"Despite the charges against Ms. Anthony we have not achieved our objective," he said. "We have not found little Caylee Anthony."
Before her arrest, Anthony's lawyer continued to maintain her innocence.
"She has been living a nightmare," the attorney added. "She has a missing child. She's also a child." VideoWatch Anthony's lawyer address the media »
Earlier in the day, Casey Anthony's father -- Caylee's grandfather -- testified before the grand jury. The panel was convened to look into the suspicious circumstances surrounding the child's disappearance.
George Anthony was prepared to do the "unthinkable" -- testify against his own daughter, lawyer Mark Nejame told a clutch of reporters gathered on the courthouse steps Tuesday morning.
Struggling with his emotions, George Anthony clutched a "find Caylee" binder in his folded arms.
"This is going to be very hard for me to do. The focus has always been on my granddaughter and always will be. I love my daughter, I love my wife, I love my son," Anthony said.
He asked for the public to keep his family, especially Caylee, in their prayers. "If someone could take a moment out at 11 o'clock this morning and 11 o'clock tonight and just pray for her. That's all I'm asking for. That's all I can say."
Anthony and his lawyer left the courthouse about an hour later without commenting.
Caylee Anthony disappeared in mid-June, but Casey Anthony waited about a month before telling her family the child was gone. Cindy Anthony -- Caylee's grandmother -- called the Orange County sheriff July 15 after her daughter wouldn't tell her where Caylee was. VideoWatch the latest twist: a child's dress is found »
Casey's brother, Lee Anthony, also pleaded with his sister to tell him where Caylee was. According to police documents, she replied that she hadn't seen Caylee in "31 days."
Investigators say that since that first 911 call, evidence has mounted that leads police to believe that Caylee is dead. They first labeled Casey Anthony a person of interest, and later, a suspect.
The story of Anthony and her missing daughter garnered national headlines, provided nightly fodder for cable TV crime shows and brought a stampede of reporters to stake out the home of Anthony's parents. See a timeline of key events »
Tempers have flared and fists have flown outside the house tucked away in a subdivision in Orlando, Florida. One protester had George Anthony arrested, alleging that he had pushed her.
Police and prosecutors have said little, instead letting hundreds of pages of documents and investigative reports do the talking for them.
Casey Anthony behaved like a carefree party girl, going to nightclubs, entering "hot-body" contests and incessantly sending text messages to her friends while her daughter was missing, according to cell phone and text transcripts and investigative reports released by police.
Copies of her phone and text records obtained by police and released to the public show she hardly ever mentioned her missing daughter during the time just before and after the child was reported missing. The young mother referred to Caylee as "the little snot head" in May, about a month before the child disappeared.
Anthony gave conflicting statements during the investigation and provided police with information that later was disproved. For example, she said she had dropped the child off with a baby sitter. Yet when police checked out her story, they learned that the address that Anthony supplied belonged to an apartment that had been vacant for weeks. The woman Anthony named as the baby sitter said she did not know Anthony.
As Anthony was arrested on child neglect charges, bonded out of jail, was rearrested on bad check and theft charges and bonded out again, investigators disclosed some of the forensic evidence they uncovered.
Cadaver dogs picked up the scent of death in the trunk of a car Anthony drove and in her parents' backyard. A neighbor told police Anthony had asked to borrow a shovel.
Authorities said that in the car Anthony drove, they found traces of chloroform, which can cause loss of consciousness. And they said that on her computer, they found Internet searches of missing children and chloroform Web sites.
Investigators said air quality tests conducted by the FBI found evidence of human decomposition in the trunk of Anthony's car. Law enforcement sources also suggested that a strand of hair found in the trunk of the car was probably Caylee's.

POF has become.....

Insincere people are everywhere; it's not just this site. I don't think it's fair to blame the place for the lack of sense/morals/scruples of the people populating it (just my opinion).
Being intimidated or influenced by the favorites thing is pretty silly. The 'owner' of the favorites doesn't have to do a thing to be chosen (which shoots the number up) and many times they don't even know someone has selected them! I had 50 favorites before I ever went back to view my profile and I didn't know they were even there. I still don't know the meaning of it all, but I truly don't care. Only a handful of people on that list have ever contacted me. It's just a silly feature in my opinion and one not to be taken seriously. In fact, I think I'll do what pluger60 said he did and delete the ones for people I don't know.

She stole from her grandparents. She lied to her family. If she killed her daughter, why wouldn't she dispose of the poor little thing in such a manner. I don't think she has any conscience or love of family or loyalty to family....at all.

If there is no connection, do you need to tell them so?

I don't think it is always the case. I had an interesting date on Friday. I emailed and said thank you to the man because I felt like I should, I don't always feel a need to, but in this case I said thank you. Short and sweet, but got an email back that seems he really wants to do it again. I now have to nicely tell him no thank you. Perhaps I shouldn't have said thank you and that is my error, I don't know, he still may have emailed.
I think it was nice of you to say thanks. I usually do the same even if there's no interest. To me, it's just an acknowledgment of the person's time and energy and for making the effort. Why can't we show appreciation for such things? Honestly, I think it sets you apart from all the takers in this world and shows a human side. So it may make things a little uncomfortable when you have to decline, but still it was the right thing to do. I would want to be treated like that.

As a professional masochist I require either a verbal or typewritten dismissal.
I'm waiiiitiiiing.....
That's surprising since you 'could really give a flying fart in a rolling rainstorm whether or not' you make it onto the favorites list of any member? Who would have known that you cared that much about a formal dismissal.

So basically Casey was acting like she lost, what? a shoe or an earring instead of her only child? That's very disturbing. It suggests she's guilty of killing that poor unloved baby or if she didn't do it (which hardly anyone believes) this woman truly has no heart or natural maternal feelings.

Stella,
You need to read my comment again. I didn't say she should be put in jail.
Your comment that people shouldn't be jailed for manslaughter makes no sense to me at all. What do you suggest doing? Letting those killers run around free to kill again? Where is the justice for the victim and the family? Where is the protection for the innocent people who cross the paths of such people? If you honestly feel that it's wrong for killers to be put in jail, then maybe your town would like to accommodate them all. No? I wouldn't think so either.

So IF they could find a house arrest ankle (cankle?) bracelet large enough to fit this woman, who would have to feed her? Would her housing be paid for by her family? Maybe the family footing the bill for this disgusting killer isn't such a bad idea after all. Better than making the tax payers do it.

Thanks DestinyRose. I appreciate your condensed version.
What an ugly, tragic mess. I hope it all gets sorted out soon. It's very disturbing that people are so callous and can be so cold about the welfare of their own child, but on the other hand (the grandmother) , can be so stupidly willing to bury their heads in the sand when faced with what surely is the truth of the matter.

Sorry, Pretty Moon, hard as it is to imagine, this has NOT been "all over the news" in my area, so I, like others who have posted, have no clue what's been going on. GotaPulse made a reasonable request...and it really should be standard when starting a thread on any news topic...how about some links to the story to help those of us who don't have constant coverage. That would be nice.
Thanks folks. I know I'd appreciate it.

Scary - Sex Offender and POF
Posted:
8/18/2008 5:40:22 AM
There are sex offenders in abundance who have never been arrested or caught. These kind offend again and again and no one is the wiser. This must be considered, especially for women who have children and grandchildren in their lives. The only thing that can be done to protect kids in this regard, is to regularly communicate with your children in an in depth manner about good touch/bad touch, etc. and to ask them regularly what they feel and think about the person you are seeing. One should never automatically trust people around your children. NEVER.
You can also protect the children in your life by NOT posting photos of them on dating web sites. You can never tell why a person is contacting you initially...is it because they liked your profile, your photo....or is it because they liked the kids in your photos and you're just the way to get to them? I've seen many profiles with the dater posing with their children or using the kids' name in the profile. Talk about an open invitation to pedophiles! Folks (yes, men AND women), protect your kids. If someone wants to get to know you it shouldn't be because of the kids in your life.

Scary - Sex Offender and POF

Now the 36-year-old, who is too afraid to have her name published, says she is glad she listened to her instincts when Tippett urged her to get together for a face-to-face meeting.
"Thank God I didn't meet with him," the woman said yesterday.
Tippett, 32, has a lengthy history of stalking and harassing young women.
She probably wasn't in too much danger, as it appears he likes his victims a whole lot younger. This is not to say she shouldn't have been concerned, she should have been...and she did the right thing...she listened to her gut feeling.
Also, it is illegal for a sex offender to be on online dating sites. Basically all of them (PoF included) require you agree to terms of use when registering. One of them is that you cannot be a convicted sex offender. It's a breach of contract if they do. Beyond that, of sex offenders who used the computer in their crime, generally are banned from any "dangerous" sites like dating sites. Some have, as a term of their release, restrictions as strict as no computers at all.
If a person is a sex offender, it doesn't seem that they are all that worried about breaking the law, so why would they even care about violating a contract? I don't think they would be.
Regarding Byrd's comments about Megan's law...good advice and you're right. It's a very good way to find out who is in your neighborhood, but it's limited. Only REGISTERED sex offenders are listed. If they have never been reported/convicted/etc., they won't be listed...and if they don't report their whereabouts, the information isn't up to date.
In some states (Massachusetts for example), a person can be listed as a registered sex offender just by simply stopping on the side of the road to take a leak and being seen and reported by a by passer. No offense against or with another human being has to take place.
Everyone should be careful when meeting strangers...no matter what sex or age you are.

If grandma entertained her granddaughter in this manner, you have to wonder what she did with her own kids when they were young.
Truly we have seen the death of common sense .
I couldn't agree more.
On the Stupidity Scale, this act is on about the same level (this is a bit more) as Britney Spears driving around with her son on her lap. Both acts endangered a child and showed the 'responsible' person to have less intelligence than the child in that person's care. I guess money does talk, however, because in BS's case...and even though it's illegal in California to drive with an child unrestrained in a proper car seat, the fine was less than $300. I didn't know you could replace a child so cheaply.

To tell a person to his/her face or send an email or make a phone call telling a person his/she is ugly is just rude, spiteful, and unnecessary. It would seem to me that you would have reached that conclusion BEFORE you even set up your first meeting! I hope no one on this thread has actually been so cruel.

No criticism as it sounds wonderful, but do you really think it's suitable for a first real date? Maybe it's just me, but the smell of shellfish/seafood on someone's breath is a huge turn off (retching when your date tries to kiss you may be misunderstood.
). I'm sure it would be heavenly with an established relationship where you could run off before the action starts to brush your teeth. What do you think?

Re Willowbunny's comment.
I'm not a fan of dropping bombs on people by phone or email, as I think it's a bit wimpy to do so and it's very impersonal and doesn't show a lot of respect for your fellow human, but in some cases, it's warranted. It definitely would not be wise to have that type of discussion with a person you felt might be a little...um...'intense', as your encounter seems to have been. You'd have to gauge the reaction during the course of your meeting and decide the best way to break the news to the individual. Hopefully, there would be enough signs that would make it easy to discern whether this person could handle negative news and if not, you probably should inform them by phone or email. Tact and/or etiquette takes a back seat to safety, that's for sure. I've met my share of crazies, as I'm sure others have and it changes the way you would 'like' to deal with people.

After meeting, the guy usually asks if we 'can do this again' and I let them know if I think there's any potential or not. I'm assuming (correctly or incorrectly) that they've felt some type of chemistry or they wouldn't even ask. If neither of us felt anything we both know it and don't even suggest getting together again. It doesn't have to be complicated.

So you are saying that mine and the majority of other ppls opinions are invalid unless we are experts?
Not at all. I'm saying unless the writer of the article is an expert, it's just his opinion and his opinion is about the same as any person commenting on this thread. Some people here may be qualified to state from a professional mental health care standpoint why the passengers of the bus didn't help out. I'm not a professional, therefore anything I've written is purely my opinion, which is based on many things, just as yours is.

I wish we had some easy answers. Maybe we need to take more responsibility for our own safety...carry our own pepper spray (check your local laws...in the US some states require a license to carry) and try to always be aware of our surroundings and keep ourselves safe. I don't know...
Printer...what exactly do you mean? Asking how to keep oneself safe is not even close to 'a little crazy' nor is asking what responsibility the transit system we pay for has in protecting passengers...I see nothing wrong with the question.

@ justalittlecrazy
This happened in Canada.
And FYI - Homeland Security is pretty much a joke. As for being 'caught red handed', that may or may not have happened at the airport. When you read accounts of women being harassed by TSA because they tried to bring baby bottles filled with breast milk for their child during a trip and then read about people bringing cigarette lighters, knitting needles, etc., onboard...you have to wonder who made up the list of acceptable items and who actually is training these minimum wage people to keep us 'safe'. One report a while back said the security scanning machine wasn't even turned on for an entire day and countless people had gone through it. Tight security there.

lets ponder this scenerio: Li is your son. He has had a history of mental illness that, since being recognized, you have had to fight the government to step in and help this man (your son) be institutionalized... however; because of rights and freedoms, and the fact that he has never harmed himself or anyone else, they will not lock him away. He ends up committing a hienous crime and the police kill him with the intent to only would him.... all along, they could have ultimately arrested him without harming him in any way. ... Your son is now dead. What would your thoughts be on shooting him and taking him out of your life forever be then?
Since I have no first hand knowledge of how a person would feel in such circumstances, I can only speculate on my own feelings. But to play along and answer your question: Based on articles I've read about the families of people who have committed despicable crimes; like Jeffery Dahmer and the BTK killer, I can only assume I would feel somewhat similar. Naturally, I'd be upset and destroyed by the death of my child, but also I'm sure I'd feel what those families have said they feel... I'd be horrified to know that my own offspring was capable of committing such a heinous crime. I'd feel a measure of guilt just for being related to him and I'd wonder what I did or didn't do as a parent to create such a person (or monster). I may also feel a sense of relief knowing he himself was no longer tortured and that he could no longer hurt anyone else. I'm sure there would be an entire world of emotions that such an event would dreg up....possibly some I've never yet come across.

Maybe the killing could not have been stopped but I feel certain that the indignity that was inflicted afterwards on McLean could have been prevented .In full public view and its on the net . That family has to live with the brutal murder of their son and brother and the agony of knowing the humiliation he was subjected to.
Let that sink in if you can
I absolutely agree with you, nicktomlinrhys.
As a mother, I can only imagine how devastated the parents are, as well as the rest of the family. To hear...not from the authorities...but from other sources that your child has been murdered, and then to hear the horrible way he was killed, and on top of that, to add insult to injury, to know that the authorities sat back and watched while further damage was done to your child...horrific. It makes no difference that he was 'already dead'...further mutilation or defiling of his body is just terrible. This type of treatment of the dead is across the board, in almost every society, taboo and considered shocking. To the people who have criticized me for saying the authorities could have shot the man and wounded him: Yes, they could have and should have. In my opinion, it's bullshit for them to sit back and watch the killer continue to mutilate and (if it's true) eat that poor boy...just horrendous that the authorities treated this as some sort of scientific experiment. What reasons have they given for that? What reasons could they possible have? To say (as some posters have) that the authorities 'aren't trained' to deal with such situations...pfffffttt! Exactly WHAT are they trained to do if not deal with the public in extreme and non-extreme situations? If they can't be looked to to handle 'situations' then who can? Why do they have 'authority'?? As a parent, I would want to know that SOMEone did something for my child.

can you imagine being incarcerated in the same cell block or even the same cell with the alledged attacker in this case?
Jeffrey Dahmer I think was in the general population of prison.
And the prisoners didn't tolerate him. He died after being beaten to death by another prisoner. I guess they have their own way of meting out justice.

Thanks Mike Chinkowski. That was sad to read. He was a really cute guy and you're right, he did seem like a nice guy. Very sad.

the victim was already dead at this point and the other passengers were now not in any danger. If you were the family of this victim.. would you not want to find out why this man did what he did... Certainly if the attacker was dead.. you would never get any closure as to the why of it all.
Good point, but still the guy could have been wounded and taken off the bus quickly.
The authorities did not "just watch while he hacked away at his victim" They were negotiating an unviolent surrender.. He will be punished accordingly.. and Mark's parents and family will at least have some comfort of knowing the whys and how comes of this tragedy.
Perhaps in Canada he will be punished accordingly. Unfortunately, for some of us in the US (I'm speaking only for myself here), the judicial system is a joke and many cases will never see justice served.
I'm surprised why some of you can't understand this.
You're assuming a lot. I suspect they can understand...people here (for the most part) aren't stupid. Opinionated, yes
, but stupid...never! (Not that you said stupid)

To find this out from the media and not the authorities puts the suffering of the poor man's family beyond my comprehension.
I'm horrified by that - what the HELL were the authorities playing at? Haven't the relatives got enough pain to endure at hearing news that bad without having to "check" and "chase" the authorities themselves? Seriously someone, somewhere needs to be sacked and a public apology issued to the man's family from the highest level possible for such a crass error of judgement.
I agree.
I'm also unimpressed by the fact there was a stand off between the authorities and the man defiling his victim. If a dog is mad and dangerous you put it down! Watching while he hacked away at his victim was just stoopid.
This is truly disturbing. The killer was the only one on the bus...why not take him out or wound him? One bullet...he only had a knife and the authorities most surely had guns.

I find it interesting that the very vast majority of people judging the actions of the passengers are Americans. Interesting indeed.
It’s interesting that you’re trying to turn this into an anti-American/anti-Canadian thing when the fact is this sort of thing could have happened anywhere in the civilized world and it would still be shocking and tragic…and people still would have looked out for themselves and would not have tried to help. Did I ever say in any of my comments that those people were cowards? No.
It seems to me from your comments, that you see things as either black or white; help/or look like you’re helping = hero, run away/do nothing = coward. That may be your definition, but don’t assume everyone shares your view. Should a person be labeled a coward if they sit idly by (or walk away, or look away, or run the other way….whatever) and choose not to help a fellow human in need? Perhaps, but not necessarily (perhaps the person doesn’t feel by definition, ‘fearful or timid’). Maybe apathetic, disengaged, selfish, or without compassion would fit better. The people who ran off the bus may not have been cowards, but they still did nothing. From the news accounts that I’ve seen, the three men you seem to feel are ‘heroes’ came back onto the bus and just watched:
"We heard this bloodcurdling scream and turned around, and the guy was standing up, stabbing this guy repeatedly, like 40 or 50 times," Caton said from a hotel in Brandon, Manitoba, where he and other horrified passengers were taken.
Caton said the driver stopped the bus when he became aware of the attack and passengers raced off. A short while later, Caton said he re-boarded along with the bus driver and a trucker who had stopped to see what was happening.
He said the suspect had the victim on the floor of the bus and "was cutting his head off" with a large hunting knife.
I don’t see anything ‘heroic’ in re-boarding the bus and watching from afar as the killer mutilates his victim. That looks more like morbid curiosity to me. Putting the crowbar in and keeping the guy on the bus may fall into the brave category, but still not so heroic in my book.
There are many ordinary people in this world who have committed themselves to helping others in extraordinary circumstances and now fit the hero label. Maybe some of the people from the bus do as well, but at this point in the investigation...I don’t see it.
******
To clarify my previous comments citing the woman who faced the meat cleaver attacker and the passengers on Flight 93 – my references are from the US, because I live there, however, there are many instances of people who have jumped into a situation without fearing for their own safety from every country and I recognize that. Don’t misconstrue my comments as being only pro-American while excluding truly heroic acts in any other country. My comments are pro ‘humans acting compassionately and helping others when the need arises’.

I read here 8 of 10 would not assist. That's bad. Knife man did not go to the front of the bus holding everybody hostage. No, that did not happen. If it did it's understandable to be comfortable in doing nothing. The case on the bus was an assault and brutal murder on one person and no one attempted to assist. All the "it's sad" or " it was a horrible tragedy" does not help the butchered victim who could have been you or a loved one. There may had been a chance after several stabbing's of saving his life.
It must be very easy to sit there behind the comfort and safety of your computer and critique the actions (or alleged lack thereof) of others, particularly when you weren't even there and you don't even know all of the details (none of us really do - we only know what we do based on what the media discloses). The killer wasn't using a plastic butter knife; he was using a large hunting knife. Some of the passengers said they heard the commotion, saw arms flailing and thought they were fighting (no weapons)....by the time those closeby realized a knife was involved and that this SOB was repeatedly stabbing this poor young guy, logic would dictate that it would have been far too late to do ANYTHING to save him. He'd have been bleeding to death instantly and nothing short of it happening in an operating room with a team of trauma / vascular surgeons standing by would have saved him (and even then it would have likely been far too late -- once an artery is severed, it takes seconds to exsanguinate and once you lose all that blood, even in a hospital setting where blood is available for transfusion, it's almost always too late).
It's appalling to me that someone would sit in judgement like this. I'm sure it was utter chaos.......people waking suddenly from their sleep, being dazed, hearing a commotion, the bus moving at 60 miles/hr down the highway -- the driver trying to bring the bus to as quick of a stop as possible......there were several elderly folks and children on that bus, along with a group of tourists from France. Someone shouted for them to get off the bus...........so they went barrelling down the narrow aisle and off the bus............most probably not even knowing what was going on, just that it was something bad............
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH…pontificate to the extreme…
And so in your rant, you pass judgment on a person who expresses an opinion that doesn’t mirror your own. That’s beautiful.
Earlier (msg. 33) I posted the story of a woman who jumped in to help a 6 year old boy and his mother as they were being attacked by a man wielding a MEAT CLEAVER…not a butter knife, not a big knife, but a freaking meat cleaver….a weapon that could and did inflict a lot of damage…the little boy died, the mother nearly lost her arm, the woman was slashed across her face. The fact is she DID jump in to help. She had to try and gave no thought to her own safety.
During the attack on the World Trade Center, passengers on Flight 93 decided to fight back (big, big controversy regarding that flight and I don’t intend to get into it here). The fact that all passengers died does not negate their actions and that they chose to fight back instead of allowing themselves to be taken out without a whimper.
There ARE people in this world that will NOT run away from a dangerous situation, but will stand and fight selflessly. Like it or not, the people on the bus didn’t do that. Right or wrong, justifiable or not, that is a fact. Standing from afar and watching a man hack up his victim is NOT heroism. Maybe people need to redefine that word in their own minds as it seems to be subject to interpretation.

Seems like the people in America are a bunch of cowards when someone needs help eh? Oddly enough you do all carry guns!! What's your excuse?
Oh please. Now there's a stupid blanket statement if I've heard one. People in the US don't "all carry guns" any more than "people in Canada are a bunch of cowards". Not only is this murder senseless and sad to read about, but so are the comments from people on this thread who feel it necessary to insult one another based on where they live. This could have happened ANYWHERE and unless you're deaf and blind, you have to hear these types of accounts in the news practically every day.

To the ones that are saying that people are cowards for not stepping in and helping the poor victim, shame on you. As if you would approach someone that has a rambo knife and is stabbing someone to death, you would be as crazy as the psycho doing it if you did.
And yet, some people do get involved with no thought for their own safety. They just can't stand by and watch while someone is brutalized. Below is a partial news item from 2007 in my town in California. The woman who tried to stop this nightmare is exceptionally brave and has my respect (the 6 year old boy died. I haven't heard anything lately, but I think the mother survived):
Multiple witnesses at the scene this morning recounted a brutal attack that began in a first floor apartment at the complex. They outlined the attack as follows:
After an argument inside the apartment, the boy and mother ran out the door into an apartment courtyard followed by the attacker, who was wielding a foot-long meat cleaver.
The boy apparently tried to protect his mother, and the attacker began hacking at the child's head with the meat cleaver, hitting him multiple times.
Witnesses reported the attacker yelled at the child about video games while swinging the meat cleaver.
The attacker also began swinging the cleaver at the boy's mother, hitting her multiple times and nearly severing her hand and arm, witnesses said.
Another woman tried to stop the attack and she was hit in the face with the meat cleaver. Ultimately, witnesses said, she managed to get the meat cleaver out of the attackers hands. Her injury was not serious and she was treated at the hospital and released.
When police arrived, the attacker was still at the scene. Witnesses described the attacker as extremely agitated and "amped up" and was spitting at officers as they tried to arrest him.
Witnesses said the police had to use tasers multiple times to subdue him and taking him into custody.
Investigators were also trying to determine a motive for the attack, Hernandez said.

This is such a terrible story. It just makes me sick. Unfortunately, it won't be the last though, as the news is just chock full of them every single day.
It's truly sad and disappointing that no one on that bus was willing to step up and help that young man. There's something terribly wrong when people are unwilling to help another human being in need. This story could have been anywhere (Any Town, Canada, New York, Tokyo, London) with the same results and that's a very scary thought. What does this say about us as humans and as a society? And how does this type of story make you...as a person on an internet dating site feel about the people you may decide to meet? If an individual can get on public transportation and not arouse any suspicions, the same type of person can be anywhere...even an online dating service. How do you balance your fear of hooking up with the crazies and make the decision to meet and possibly date or marry a person from either a site like this or from a chance meeting in a club or restaurant? And how would you feel if you met a person who fled from such an incident? Could you feel any respect? Not trying to hijack the thread, it's just that these types of stories always bring up so many questions.

Thanks warrior.
I just spoke to her. She is not actually sleeping with anyone. ( i will get someone looking into this for me anyway)
She has been hanging around a new female friend, and yes is confused about things
and needs some time to work them out. (I have met her new friend and talked to her)
I will be hanging in there for a while as she may not actually go independant, and just wants freedom to see friends. We will be attending counselling in the next week. See what comes out of that.
We dont actually need a divorce lawyer, we are too people who still love each other and are capable of working things out or at the end of the day able to divide up assests.
She is still very much a loving women.
Dan
Sorry if this is otherwise, Dan, but things aren't adding up now. Do I smell a troll?

Yup, Dan. Cut your losses and move on. It's over. Sorry to be so blunt, but it seems you've already reached your own conclusions along these same lines and, deep inside, you know the truth.
Some may call it an open marriage, but it seems your wife is the only one who wants it opened, so let her file for divorce and let her pay for it. She's the one abandoning you. She most likely has already been having her one night stands, as you said she hasn't been staying home much and it appears it was pretty easy for her to tell you that she plans to have them.
I'm sorry you're having this difficulty, Dan. In time, you'll be able to move on and, hopefully, you'll be able to trust and love again.
Good luck!
Edit: I completely agree with Agrah on the legality...separate your accounts and don't allow her access to your assets. She may think you'll support her new lifestyle in all ways...mentally, emotionally, and financially. You sound smart enough not to allow yourself to be suckered into such a one-sided arrangement.
