Strong opinions on pot smoking here and abouts; why?
Posted:

One of the major problems is that people in general have little self control and self discipline. So if one pound of friend chicken is good, ten pounds is even better. For that reason they assume everyone else is the same deficiencies. That assumption, like the vast majority of assumptions are a mistake. To look at pot (good vs. bad) from that perspective can only lead to a skewed view.

Generally speaking, any time you legalize, you tax and control.
stance on legalizing substances such as cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin
I'm not in favor of legalizing any of those. Those are much much more harmful than pot ever was or will be. Comparing them is simply foolish. As far as pot, there is no rational reason not to legalize it. Period. If you don't like pot, simple; don't smoke it. If you don't like being around people that smoke pot (and that's pretty tough considering they've estimated at lease 50m users in the U.S., the, by all means, don't. Who really cares. End of story.

Never used it. I've only used Dreamweaver to put pages together. There are other programs that interface with Dreamweaver to add link sets and such but you can do it all with Dreamweaver.

Hard to take these righties seriously any more. They're still simply pissed that they lost and they've freaked out over it, rationale be damned. Let Glen Beck steer the ship. The day Glen Beck is made to go away, I MIGHT gain some respect for the right. Not until them.

Yes. They're templates...various styles that you can modify.
Also, there are tons of HTML tutorials out there. Here's one:

who would you list as some of your favorite keyboardists?
Funny you should ask. Last summer I went to party in the back of some guys house. It was a jazz getogether. (My drummer sat in with an upright bass player, guitar player, keyboardist and horn player). The horn player was awesome but the second I saw the keyboard player, my jaw dropped and never came back up. This kid was 17 years old and had chops I've NEVER seen before. This is a link to a concert performance he did in Japan (jazz tri0) that absolutely knocked their socks off. His name is Austin Peralta. He's played with some heavyweights starting at age 13 (I think this kid came out of the womb playing keyboards). He has sat in with the greats. If he's this good now (he's 18) I can't even imagine how good he'll be in another 5-10 years. But watch him on youtube and you'll see what I mean. I've never seen anything like it. Not only talented but a really nice, humble young man. What a pleasure. The horn player was Dane Musa - an amazing jazz player.

You'd have to beat out my drummer. That might be tough. He's pretty amazing. Toured with Janis Joplin back in the day. Can absolutely play anything. He reads, writes, scores, even sits in with two different Philharmonic orchestras. He's really amazing. High caliber stuff. I'm a musical illiterate in comparison. I have only my ear. Can't read or write a note. I wouldn't know a dimished 5th from 5th gear. Thank god for the ear and the fact that I can pay attention.

Quit being a moron and think.
I was the minority where it kept getting infected no matter how much they cleaned it. In cases such as this, it is justifiable to remove it.
No you're the moron. You should have left it on. God gave it to you didn't he?
Since you know all there is to know about circumcisions, tell me why you only use deodorant under your arms? Riddle me that (oh and you can keep your bs insults to yourself. Nobody cares).
I take two showers and one bath a day.
Am I the only one that finds that odd?
just think of all the gross things growing under that foreskin
Think about all the gross things that can be growing in a vagina.
Bullshit. We're talking about foreskins not vaginas. Don't change the subject.
and displays a severe lack of intelligence and education.
Coming from a 25 year old wet behind the ears student, I can tell you that most of us here have forgotten more than you know. Your know-it-all arrogance won't win any debate points here.
Case closed.
You got that right.
This occurs with the MINORITY though.

New Swine Flu vaccine is dangerous business
Posted:

There is a movement to stop people from asking any questions about vaccines -- they're a miracle, that's it, debate over. I don't think its that simple, and neither do millions of other people. The British Medical Journal from August 25 says half the doctors and medical workers in the U.K. are not taking the flu shot -- are they all crazy too? Sixty-five percent of French people don't want it. Maybe its not as simple as the medical establishment wants to paint it.

And your friend is liberal? And this guy is Limbaugh conservative? Good luck. Hey there's no accounting for taste.
My question is after all of these years...why do we do stupid things, get involved with the wrong people because they are hot and just set ourselves up for failure? over and over again.
Because, as that hillbilly comic once said, "there's no cure for stupid". Some people just don't get it and never will.

If you're into Cajun BBQ, I've got the perfect place for your location. The bonus is they've also got some of the best bands in town. It's on Ventura Blvd. Stevie's Creole Cafe & Bar. 16911 Ventura Blvd. Encino, CA 91316 818-528-3500. Price range: $$$ ($16-$25). Was there a couple of weeks ago. Fabulous. Great music. Great food and great music.

Bummer. I'd have thought there would be more musicians here. Who knew LOL. Yes. I am one. Besides a full time day career/day gig, I also put together a 5 pce. R'n B, Funk, Blues band. It's the most fun I can have with my clothes on. Been playing keyboards since age 5. Right now, I'm auditioning lead singers and soon I find the one that works, we'll be playing out again.

You image does look fairly clear but it's also fairly pixilated. I don't know the size of the image you uploaded but if it was taken in a studio I'm certain it's far bigger than allowed on this site. (Should probably be something under 100k in size). If the site squished it down so it fits within the size guidelines, they're the ones who made it look that way. It's still a pretty good picture. I wouldn't worry about it.

If you've never put up a website and don't understand HTML, you've got your work cut out for you and if you have to learn PHP (or similar) you're going to be tearing your hair out. Plenty of hosts out there have cookie cutter web site "templates" that you can modify for your own purposes but starting from scratch without fully understanding HTML and PHP, you're at least 6 months away.

Now don't get me wrong. If it's for medical reasons, i'm fine and dandy with that.
Of course it's for medical reasons. Do you think OBGyns are have penis fetishes? Good grief. No wonder your family is pissed.
But if it's simply because of tradition
Of course it's a tradition - FOR HEALTH REASONS.
It is child abuse. It's genital mutilation.
Rubbish. Absolute rubbish.
Every been to a bris?
I was at my own. They said I was the star attraction.
Do you know how you just called God incompitent? You just told him that he does not know how to create humans correctly and humans must intervene to correct what God did very poorly.
Next time you speak to god, ask him/her about the appendix or tonsils. Basically, what your friend does with his son is none of your business.

Without knowing exactly what "papers" were filed it's hard to answer your question. If you filed for dissolution of the marriage and those are the papers he was served with, it doesn't matter if he's cooperating or if he's burning the papers. The court will schedule a hearing date and, if he won't agree to sell the home on his terms, the court will force a sale. There's nothing you have to do. Just get your own life in order and try not to let him continue to push your buttons. But you WILL have to get to legal aid to find out exactly the status of your case. Information is power. I'm a lawyer here in California but know nothing about Canadian divorce law but if there any general questions I can help you with, please feel free to email me.

I do not have a law degree, and I am blond, but even so I can see the point Matchlight was making. The guy was methodically PLANNING ahead. He bought armor piercing ammo in case anyone he shot HAD body armor on. DUH! And I also own several guns, but I have not committed any crimes with them, so how many guns you own is a moot point.
THAT was exactly my point. You got it. He didn't but the rest is all speculation. You're not inside his head. You don't know what he was thinking. So the fact that you own several guns but haven't committed any crimes with them but since he also did, that means he was planning it? Excuse me?

He acquired not just one, but two, pistols. He also bought ammunition designed to pierce body armor.
I have several myself. That, in itself, is evidence of what exactly? And I don't recall reading in the news that he shot at anyone or anything donning armor plating.
Not long before he killed those thirteen people, he gave the woman next door his frozen food and some furniture, saying he was leaving and didn't need them.
He was being shipped out, remember? So what does all this prove exactly? You can hurl all the insults you like, but you still can't debate the facts.

you learned less about writing and thinking clearly than you did about using angry, sarcastic outbursts as a smokescreen to cover weak arguments.
Spare me the BS. You go and insult me and complain about MY insults? What crap. You don't respond to ANY points. You just insult. My writing is just fine thank you very much. You don't do law review and not write and think clearly. Try it some time. My arguments are weak? Is that why you're completely unable to respond to them?
You can complain all you want about how you think he's been wronged on some other thread--it's not the topic of this one.
You're so full of it it you can't even remember what you write. You've got cobwebs up there somewhere.
I haven't heard this President say anything yet about the fact this guy's a Islamic extremist. Considering the questions about his own affiliation with Islam growing up, and the fact he's got U.S. servicemen overseas fighting Islamic jihadists, I'd think he'd go out of his way to eliminate any doubt that first of all, he's an American. But he doesn't, and I doubt that I'm the only one who's noticed it.

According the this article, the insanity defense is only used in 1% of the cases. In those cases it is unsuccessful 75% of the time.
The insanity defense is a last ditch effort. It IS rarely successful but, in this case, it appears to be all he has although we still don't know all of the facts. And although it makes for interesting gossip, why spend one second speculating until all of the facts are out. It's a waste of time.

but are determined to make excuses for it,
And where exactly have I made excuses for anything?
But why should anyone think it's anything more than your uninformed opinion?
Having practiced law for over 35 years, I think my opinion is hardly uninformed.
I don't think you know what it would take to show in a court-martial that Hasan was legally insane, exactly when he would need to have been that way, what evidence would be relevant, how the burden of proof would work,
You're right. You don't think. I know exactly what has to happen in court. Do you?
If those things are really so obvious, why do you need to *tell* us they are?
What's obvious to me isn't obvious to you. That's why.
I notice you completely ignore the large amount of evidence of Hasan's extreme Islamist beliefs we already have, and how consistent those beliefs are with what he did.
Wrong again. I've ignored nothing. I said (if you read it)
I think what freaked him out was pretty clear - his recently intensified religious affiliation, his being ordered to Iraq (or Afghanistan) which must have really lit his fuse
. Note the words "recently intensified religious affiliation. But then you seem to insist on reading creatively (i.e. leaving out what I said).
He planned his attack in advance, calmly, and in detail.
How the hell do you know? Did you talk to him yourself? Or do you just make this stuff up as you go along?

Maj. Nidal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist, murdered 13 people and wounded 28 more at Fort Hood, Texas a couple days ago. Was this just a "tragedy," as a Christian minister said yesterday in commemorating the dead? Or is Hassan a jihadist traitor who deserves to be executed for mass murder? Why are the news media and the administration so reluctant to talk about his religious beliefs, or the disloyal statements he'd been making for months?
Quite obviously they don't want to throw gas on a fire...like you're doing. The man was obviously mental and being a muslim on top of it sure didn't help.
which should be quite a challenge.
No challenge at all. The insanity plea fits.
Think what an aviation mechanic could do to sabotage a helicopter or plane carrying troops.
The military is stretched so incredibly thin that they've completely lowered the bar to the ground for enlistees. Now they take ex-cons, kids with known gang affiliations who will no doubt bring their new found skills back to "the hood" when they're released. You've got a hellova lot more to worry about than a muslim going berserk.
Cool. Another thread for the right to bash the president. Yup, eventually you folk will have him responsible for what happened at Fort Hood. Obama is to blame for not saying the right thing at the right time. Another sign that Republicans have to make something up to complain about.
Amen brother. You beat me to it. I'm so sick and tired of Obama being blamed for anything it's really getting old. He's handled, with grace I might add, the most bizarre attacks from the lunitic right, he must be a very strong person internally, incredibly centered, to take that crap from the likes of Limaugh, O'reilly, et all, how does he keep from giving them the finger in a press conference.
Funny that I don't remember the right bashing that moron ex president for creating all the crap we're going through now. Sure, blame it on the new guy. These people make me sick.
Until I know all the facts I want to be careful.
A wise position to take under the circumstances. What we call the "media" is a joke. Who was it again that fired the shots that brought Nidal down? The lady cop? NO! It was her partner. But people are so ignorant they take everything they hear as gospel. People are fed so many lies they have no clue.
The military clearly bears a great deal of responsibility for this trajedy but all you're going to hear about is the shooter. Now isn't that special (best SNL phone lady voice)
but dismissing a Muslim whose had problems and has been written up for poor job performance, they keep.
Sort of like affirmative action gone really bad. That's why military intelligence is an oxymoron Dontcha know.
But Mr. Obama and his adoring multitudes have sometimes acted as if they thought so.
When compared to that sh!t-for-brains george, Obama IS the messiah. Oh, by the way, was George Bush responsible for Timothy McVeigh? I'm just curious.
what caused him to snap will hopefully be revealed.
I think what freaked him out was pretty clear - his recently intensified religious affiliation, his being ordered to Iraq (or Afghanistan) which must have really lit his fuse and, coupled with whatever meds he was on (or supposed to be on) provided a pretty ready mix. They should have Section 8'd this guy out years ago but they clearly dropped the ball. I served at Ft. Hood many moons ago. This will be a stain on the military for a long long time. But the overall stress on our military is squarely on the shoulders of george w. How that man sleeps at night is beyond me.
on the wrong side of an issue, defend political correctness, show themselves to be the Suicidal Stolkholm syndrome sufferers i always accuse them of being.
Don't tell me. You're just angry they kicked you out of your neighborhood birthers getogether. Tough luck that.
I want to be able to laugh at these clowns with the rest of the world.
In case you hadn't looked out of your front door or watched TV since January, but it's US and the rest of the world laughing at right wing political ideologues. When Obama was elected, couldn't you hear and feel the whole world breating a sigh of relief? Can you imagine having palin as vice president? jesuschristonastick.
They even promise more rewards in heaven for killing themselves in the process.
Which, in this country is fairly silly because, if sufficiently motivated, one could find plenty of virgins right here on terra firma....oh, and they wouldn't even have to kill themselves to get them.

^^^^^Yes, she sure is. From what I read, she fired as she got out of the car and ran toward him. And that drew his fire away to her. Fortunately, she's all right, and he will live to face a court-martial. To the Devil with him.
Nice story but factually untrue. Her partner brought Nidal down.

A few crackpots, no matter what their color, race or religious persuasion, who use religion as their excuse to kill do not constitute MUCH killing in the name of Christ.
You're characterizing the crusades and the inquisition "a few crackpots"? Seriously?? How much is much? History tells us (those who've studied it at least on occasion) that there have been far more deaths during religious wars than all war of modern times COMBINED! Now how much is much again?
jt7 you sound like a Berkley grad?
Yes. Bright. Intelligent and informed. That's a good thing.
Definitely a bay area mentality
Yes, intellect. Refreshing isn't it. Why the attempted put-downs pal? Seriously. You're a fish out of water on this one.
The liberals already have plans for Hasan. I can see it now.....
jesuschristherewegoagin. Oh dem sneaky librils.
This is the smartest thing to do. Look at Charles Whitman. He killed 14 people and wounded 32 others by locking himself in a tower and sniping. Everyone said it was because of the drugs, because of this, because of that. But it turned out he had a tumor on his brain, which might have contributed to the incident.
Most people's sole exercise is jumping to conclusions.
The first time my son saw him salute a soldier as he came off the helicopter said, "What a whimpya$$ salute!"
Jesus man. Cut the guy some slack. He was never in the military. But then again, your son probably never graduated Harvard with honors either.
I would like to see more people take my position and discuss these issues with those that disagree. Seems like everyone is in agreement, Maj. Hasan is a crazy jihadist and deserves death by fire! My Souther Boy side agrees, my prudent law scholar side tells me to wait for all the facts.
An ideal I share but, back in reality, we're living in a world where people refuse to communicate. They prefer hurling epithets and barring their teeth. It's the Hatfields and McCoys on a grander more hateful scale and it's destroying this country. It's gotten far worse from my perspective in the last 20-30 years. It's like a growing cancer. It seems too easy to get people at each other's throats these days. We should all be very concerned but the big picture here and ask themselves what's going on. Very sad. Sad indeed.

How can I put my video onto a disc?

A DVD holds roughly 4 1/2gb of data so there's plenty of room. I use Nero for most of my DVD burning. It's pretty much a no-brainer.

The kids situation from divorce
Posted:

IMO, it’s always up the adults to behave like adults. I think splitting parents should enact rules of “disengagement” such as, agreeing that they will never behave in an uncivil manner in front of their kids; that neither of them will ever bad mouth the other to their kids; and that they will never use their children as pawns. Kids suffer enough when their folks split up; parents should do anything and everything possible to help their offspring transition through this difficult time.
Exactly right. The only problem is there aren't nearly enough adults out here...lots of people, young and old but, yada yada yada...

Why are there 'no pyramids in Kansas
There is one in Las Vegas. I know. I was there for five days. The caves and caverns are full of blackjack tables and slot machines.

Even the pope is aware of this coming phenomena. That's why the church revised their thinking about ETs saying that if life does exist on other worlds, they too are gods creations. They're hedging their bets.

What's interesting is that the military denied having any equipment that could make tunnels that large....that is, until a photo surfaces of the "Dulce Digger"

My young friend, you really have to grow a pair and wake up and smell the coffee. This woman is mental and she is aggressive and she is manipulative and she is threatening. WHAT THE FVCK ELSE DO YOU NEED TO KNOW???? Wake the hell up and change the locks. DON'T anwer the phone. Let your answering machine pick it up. Don't return her calls. I can almost guarantee she will be on your doorstep banging on your door because your not responding to her will piss her off and she just can't accept "no" from a man. That's the way manipulators are. She is sick and delusional. She should not be allowed around small children or pets. Get it??

Apes... Do they have emotions and thought processes like our own?

I thought we had come a little further than "God gave us dominion over the animals" and "They don't feel pain like we do so it's OK."
I would have hope so, but no luck. Spiritually, we haven't really advanced all that much since we left the caves. We only dress better and have nicer caves, but beyond that, not much has really changed.
Anyone who thinks animals have no emotions has never related to an animal. Never. Otherwise they wouldn't say something so utterly foolish.
different does not equate to inferior.
Consider the bottle nose Dolphin. Very smart animals. But mankind doesn't limit it's descrimination to just the animal kindom. We as a human race have an inbred need to fear or seek to control that which is different. That constant conflict will be our downfall. Them vs. us is societal cancer and we're all dying of it. The "I'm better, smarter, richer, faster, (whatever) than you" so what I say is more important. /rant

Congratulations. Go for it. The cold feet is to be expected under the circumstances. Anyone would feel that way with the excitement on one side and fears from the past on the other. Ignore 'em. Go for it and, again, congratulations. That's the holy grail of peoplehood IMHO.

The dumbing down of society and its impact on children and public mindset towards intelligence

why the concept of "dumb celebs" should even be the norm at all
Obviously they're not hired for their intellect. One look at Pam Anderson and or Paris Hilton and/or 99% of celebrities you see out there. There are exceptions of course, but brains is NOT the primary criteria. But if that's where you (or anyone else for that matter) is looking for role models, boy are you in the wrong place.

Indeed the Mayans (and several other cultures) weren't predicting the end of the world in 2012, but rather the transition from the 4th to the 5th. Hang on 'cause it's gonna be a bumpy ride :)
