OK, how about people who use someone else's picture on their profile? Or worse a famous actor/actress' picture as their profile. Today I logged on to find that Kate Beckinsale has apparently also logged onto POF and is single, looking to meet men and who's children are all over 18!

Dudley, are you talking about the diamond willow stacked in the rafters? I have been cutting it for something to do in my spare time. Or do you mean the ratchet bar from when I was a truck driver?

Well if anyone wants to buy their electricity elsewhere I'm sure we won't miss them!

How can you compare manufacturing industries to utilities? We don't need cars, they are a privilege, not a right. Everyone needs electricity. Well I guess we don't need it but it sure helps in the winters of our province.

From The Winnipeg Sun;

Manitoba lost 1,900 jobs in January, although there are still nearly 5,000 more jobs in the province than there were a year ago.

The latest Stats Canada labour market statistics were released this morning by the Manitoba Bureau of Statistics, and the numbers show 607,200 active jobs in Manitoba, down from 609,100 jobs in December 2008.

Manitoba lost 1,300 part-time jobs in January, down to 114,700 from 116,000, and also lost 600 full-time jobs, down to 492,500 from 493,100.

However, the numbers are still much higher than they were in January 2008, when there were 111,900 part-time jobs and 490,700 full-time positions.

Nevertheless, the province's unemployment rate has crept up from 3.8% in January 2008 to 4.3% in December to 4.6% in January 2009.

That's partly because the labour force has grown as well, with 8,800 more workers in Manitoba than there were a year ago.

Winnipeg's unemployment rate jumped from 3.9% a year ago to 4.9% in January 2009, but that's still fifth-best among Canada's major cities, trailing only Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary and Edmonton, and better than anywhere outside the Prairies.

The same goes for Manitoba's unemployment rate, which is better than every province except Saskatchewan and Alberta.

Prince Edward Island's unemployment rate is more than double Manitoba's, while the unemployment rate in Newfoundland and Labrador is more than triple what it is here.

Nationally, 129,000 workers joined the ranks of the unemployed to raise the average to 7.2%. Nationally, it was the worst monthly employment drop in at least three decades, topping figures seen in either of the two previous recessions in the 1980s and 1990s.

Doesn't sound like recession to me! In fact they seem to make our economy sound pretty good right about now!

I personally don't support the MB Hydro strike as pay increases on salaries which are above the industry norm is not fair.

That's the thing, we are not paid above industry norms. We are in fact paid less than people doing the same trades in the public sector. This is why so many of our people leave the company to get work in the west.

So you think we should just accept an offer of nothing for a four year contract? I can't believe you would expect anyone to agree to that.

Has anyone heard that the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW Local 2034) is on a legal strike? We went on strike yesterday at 6:00 p.m. and the news doesn't seem to be reporting much or giving out much information on what is going on. Its frustrating to me that so few people seem to know about what is going on in these negotiations.

For example;
the corporation wants us to sign a 4 year contract with raises of 2% in the first year, 0% in the second, 0% in the third and 0% in the fourth. They have made increases in some health benefits but also want to make cutbacks on others. IBEW asked for a 2 year contract with 8% raise each year. Hydro is standing firm in these negotiations. None of what I am telling you can't be found online if you search for it so I am not giving away any secrets. What CBC told us on the news is that there will be some inconvenience to the public and they interviewed our CEO who made a statement about it.

Just wondering if any of you out there support us?

How long does it take to get over a past love?

I have been wondering this for some time now. How long does it take to get over a past love, past interest, past someone special??? I can't stop thinking of how special that last someone was and how special she was! I can't forget how well her hand fit into mine. I can't forget how big her ring finger was on mine(for instance her ring finger was as big as the first knuckle of my pinky)! Or the size of her foot in my hand when I gave her a foot rub. Or how her shoulders fit between my thumb and forefinger . How long does it take to forget how her shoulder felt when it rubbed against mine. How long does it take to forget the small things???

How Long Does It take???

I just went out last night and got some Ptarmigan! It is definitely in season and it is not only delicious but healthier than anything you could ever buy to eat. Today I am having for lunch a ptarmigan salad sandwich with orange pepper, tomato and cheddar on home made ciabatta(seasoned bannock) with white wine.

Try Everything Once...
Posted: 9/29/2009 6:23:50 AM
Ok so my cousin and I were talking about "The Try Everything Once List" and the things that you know you and everyone else should never try again. So what do you have on your list?

Personally I know not to ever stick anything into an outlet again. It was a high school thing where a teacher said that if you stick something into one slot of an outlet nothing will happen because you don't create a circuit. I told him "No, if you stick something into one slot sparks shoot out of the wall!" I then proceeded to demonstrate this which caused sparks to shoot out the wall about 10'. I will never try that again.

My list of things to NEVER DO AGAIN is quite lengthy though so I won't list them all but some would be;

Don't roll a car for money!
Don't take the bet that you can jump over a car on a four-wheeler!
I remember quite a few times one or more of my brothers saying "Don't light that!" (referring to a lighter or matches)

Is Winnipeg, Manitoba really that friendly?
Posted: 9/27/2009 3:15:41 PM
As far as those camps go, I'm sure we could find lots of space farther north for them to set up camp.

As someone who has moved away from Winnipeg, it is getting difficult to go back, even for visits. Every day on the news up here we hear about the latest stabbing, car thefts, home invasions, shootings. Winnipeg sounds like a miserable place to live full of violence and crime. What we should do is get the powers that be to report on some of the nice, feel good stories in that city. I know they are out there, they just need to be exposed and brought to light. Otherwise we are going to continuously have this negative image of our provincial capital.

I personally can see what the other provinces are talking about just from the stories on the news. It is very depressing, and it doesn't help my image of that fair city. Especially considering the last time I was there, my truck got broken into... twice!!!

please share your blueberry recipes!
Posted: 9/25/2009 9:32:22 AM
Do you know what bannock is? It is a North American Native traditional bread. The funny thing is that pretty much every culture all around the world has some form of baking powder biscuits. Well one day I was making bannock for a potluck church dinner thing and having no raisins in the house, I added 1.5 c of frozen blueberries to my recipe and it was LOVED!!!

4c flour
2tbsp baking powder
1tsp sugar(I use Splenda)
1.25c water
.5 c oil(usually I mix half oil, half lard. Lard is traditional and holds together better but cutting with oil makes a bit lighter.)

Mix dry ingredients together. This is where I would add raisins, but this time it was blueberries. Make crater in dry ingredients, pour water then oil into crater and mix. When dough starts to form pour onto floured countertop and knead until loaf is formed.

Bake in warm oven at 350 approximately 17 minutes turn over and cook for another 3.5 minutes until golden crust. With blueberries its a bit more difficult to see the brown crust as the bread takes on that beautiful blue/purple color of the berries. A bit of butter and it tasted like there was jam on it.

What confuses me is why women say they want a nice guy but when guys like me come along they either don't want the nice guy or they seem to want something else? I know its a bit off topic but it just makes no sense. The last ex told me she needed space from me because "... you're just too nice and I can't figure that out in my head." She said it made no sense to her how I could be such a nice guy and want to be there for her and do stuff for and with her. I realize it had something to do with a bad marriage to a guy who wanted little to do with what she was in to. I still don't get it though, wouldn't someone want a nice guy after being with a bad one?

I don't care what any of them say! I've gotten flowers from women in the past and I loved it both times. One was with a basket of goodies for my birthday and the other was accompanied by a picnic basket. I figure there has gotta be something seriously wrong with a guy if he can't accept flower(s) from a woman he is with.

And as far as the whole "gay" thing goes, its BS, there is nothing wrong with a man getting flowers. I can't believe that is even suggested. Well I guess I can, a couple guys at work made gay comments about me because I hand flowers out to strangers.

I don't go "eyeballing" women, but if I am going to contact someone I would like to see a picture of them. I have had a few experiences in the past where the woman I met was NOT the woman I was chatting with. Either the picture was not of them or it was them in the past.

An embarrassing one was meeting for the first time and I did not recognize her. She said "Its me Carrie!" and my only response was "No its not!" because she had used a photo from when she was 17... Now I'm not shallow, but if I am meeting someone that I met online I would like to meet that woman!

The only person who is going to note and remember your kindness is the person you were kind to.

On a side note, if there is anyone looking to boost their self worth by giving without expecting anything in return, please feel free to contact me.

I don't do it to boast my self worth, I just do it for smiles and reactions. I won't contact you buy you should hang out at The Forks more often because if you see a guy walking around giving flowers away to strangers... well that would more than likely be me and I will give you one too! I haven't been able to get there as much as in the past as I don't live in the city anymore. But when I do go south I do tend to go overboard on the flower giving thing. I hope people pay it forward as well and have heard from a few people that they did just that. And that makes it cool. Another one I love doing is when in a checkout line saying "I have the penny(pennies)" when someone's bill comes to an odd number in change. Admittedly this one has to be premeditated as you need to have the pennies handy. Its one of those tiny RAK but sometimes appreciated more than gold. I'll never forget doing it at a Sobey's and the old guy waited outside for me to shake my hand and thank me for such "...gracious generosity!" the likes of which he hadn't seen since he was a young man.

On a side note, what gets me is how few people are looking for videos of RAK. I have two videos on youTube one of a RAK and the other of a cuckoo clock striking 11:00. The clock vid has gotten 462 hits and the RAK has gotten 159 hits. Does that not seem strange to anyone else?

Why are we single?
Posted: 9/13/2009 10:28:54 AM
I have been reading up on this a bit and have found a few different arguments. Which one is yours or do you have a different one? I have read that our parents are to blame for this situation we are in. We have all been told “You don’t need someone else in your life to be happy!” The independence speech tells us that we can do it on our own. Something I am sure most women have been hearing since the women’s lib days.

Another argument I read stated that we are in a sense of self-protection “Many singles are emotionally rudderless in relationships because they subconsciously retreat from truly loving and being loved, seeing the emotional risks involved as too great, says Robert Firestone, PhD, a Santa Barbara psychologist. They slip into a self-protective retreat mode for fear of getting emotionally wounded.”

And then there is an argument on how long we are living and that extended life expectancy has affected our relationship status and future status into this... “Some experts suggest that our longer life expectancy and society's growing acceptance of divorce mean that many singles (or once-again singles) feel no pressure to tie the knot sooner rather than later.”

I am sure there are a thousand other reasons out there as to why so many of us are single. For me its not for lack of trying. I have proposed to three women in my life and haven’t seen an altar yet. I don’t know why those three women couldn’t follow through or what it was that they needed more.

Like a lot of you out there, I’m just looking for answers.

Worst Blind Dates
Posted: 8/31/2009 6:56:11 AM
I have two very memorable dates that fit this category...

1) We were supposed to meet for coffee and maybe A&W(her idea) for lunch after spending the day at the Forks. She called up last minute and asked if I would mind just visiting her at her apartment. I wasn't up for that as it was supposed to be our first date. She kept pushing it and said she wasn't feeling up to going out and walking around. She asked if I could just pick up a couple bottled drinks. I did and the A&W for her(inside joke). She laughed and was grateful for the food and drink but after she finished eating is where the date went horribly wrong. She started ****ing and nagging me like crazy. Picked at everything I said or did. After eating she gave me a very quick tour of her place and I said "Wow, nice little apartment you have here!" And she replied "Oh, my apartment isn't big enough for you?" in a very unkind manner. She made fun of my glasses, how I dress my all over appearance. She nagged at me about everything and like the nice guy I am I put up with it. After about an hour she looked at me and said "I guess you are starting to hate me about now!" I tried to bite my lip but it slipped when I said "Starting???" I left and she tried giving me food from her cupboard and mumbling something about paying me back.

2) A different person altogether but we go for coffee at Robin's on Provencher. She starts to ask questions that seemed random at first but started taking on a seeming pattern. I never told her any personal information like name or address but she hadn't gotten that far. I asked her some things about herself but she wouldn't answer. She finally after an hour of interrogation cause it sure wasn't a date, she finally admitted something. "I work for CSIS and am very into my work so when I meet someone new I ask a lot of questions. But I don't like answering questions about myself!" I got creeped out by this and made an excuse to leave. When she finally asked my name and I declined an answer she said she would just follow me out to the parking lot and get my license plate and trace it. I told her I took a bus and would be leaving by that. She went out to her car while I waited at the bus stop. When I was sure she was gone I went and got into my van and drove off!

Worst Blind Dates
Posted: 8/30/2009 8:25:43 PM
I just read this on the net and figured I would share with the rest of you!

FERNDALE, Michigan - Police say a first date went from bad to worse when a man skipped out on the restaurant bill, then stole his date's car.

Police say 23-year-old Terrance Dejuan McCoy had dinner with a woman April 24 at Buffalo Wild Wings in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale. The woman says the two met a week earlier at a Detroit casino and she knew McCoy only as "Chris."

The woman told police that McCoy said he left his wallet in her car and asked for keys. He then sped away in the 2000 Chevrolet Impala.

The Daily Tribune of Royal Oak reports that police identified McCoy by a photo he'd sent to the woman's cellphone, and his phone number.

McCoy is charged with unlawfully taking the car, a five-year felony. He waived a preliminary exam and was bound over for trial Thursday.

How's that for worst first date?

How much is a picture worth on the internet in these times? I'd like some input if you don't mind on why people put up the pictures they do of themselves? I have seen some pictures that are so tiny or blurry you can't see the person never mind their face. What the heck is up with going onto a dating site and posting a picture wearing a wedding dress? Or how do you know which woman it is that you are supposed to be looking at when there is more than one?

Just wondering why some many put up the pictures that they do? Is it that difficult in this day and age to post a decent picture of yourself on the net or are people just not putting any effort into it?

Canada's largest wind farm to be set up in southern Manitoba

See all that damage that can be caused by wind turbines and nuclear reactors. If there was ever a catastrophic event at a generating station all it would do is clean up the land...

Canada's largest wind farm to be set up in southern Manitoba
Posted: 4/9/2009 5:12:45 AM
Actually 10% downtime would be very generous. The wind turbines in Manitoba are actually down quite a bit more because of the temperatures. They do not run at extremely low temps, I have heard its somewhere around -15C. They have found that the grease isn't pliable at those temps and the steel expansion/contraction is causing problems as well. They use heaters in them to keep the nacelle warm during the cold months but when the heaters are on the turbine isn't spinning... think about it, they aren't producing any electricity but they are using it.

The real problem with wind turbines as a source of electricity is that for every megawatt of power they turn out you need a generating station to back them up for the time that they are not turning anything out. They are very unreliable as a source of power if you need the GS to turn that power out anyway.

All I have to say to those that don't like Manitoba Hydro's use of water turbines is a question in agreement with DTC... Would you rather have nuclear power plants in your back yard? With nuclear power comes a much higher rate at the end of the month.

What I am wondering is. Will the government figure out a way to charge for the wind? Right now, Manitoba Hydro is taxed heavily for the water. Yes, there is a tax on water flow and it is charged by the cubic meter whether there is power made on it or not. So when Hydro spills because of excessive waters in the spring then they are taxed heavily on power they are not making.

I can see the government trying to figure out a way to tax the air that is flowing past the windmills over a per annum calculation in relation to how many kites could have flown in that wind...

Police use Taser during arrest of 15-year-old outside Gordon Bell school

Its simple as far as I see it... don't pull a weapon on a police officer!

They have one of two choices when it comes to an armed suspect and I don't mean a stapler... shoot or taze! Which would you prefer?

I know its a long link, but these pictures are VERY graphic. They show what a knife did to this officer who tried to subdue an armed offender.

abstaining from self pleasure
Posted: 3/12/2009 4:29:21 AM
Is your friend doing this in a spiritual manner or as you said to compete with an illusionist?

I have personally taken a vow of celibacy to bless my future wife with faithfulness. By this I mean that when I meet that future wife I want to be able to look into that woman's eyes and say without a doubt that I am faithful to her. If I abstain from any sort of self pleasure then I will be there for her 100%. Self pleasure is something that I am struggling with a bit but have reduced down to maybe twice a month, but it is also a pain management behavior as I am still a new Christian.

This is the same reason that I have chosen not to view pornography or any form of nudity of women. Not just because it is a sin, but because of that wanting to bless a future wife.

Random Acts of Kindness
Posted: 2/28/2009 10:53:07 AM
I do random acts of kindness on a weekly basis. I call it my Flowers for Strangers campaign in which I buy flowers and give them to random strangers or people that are working to brighten up their workplace. The second part I have been told actually brightens up a lot more peoples day as the employees have been known to tell customers that " there is this guy that gives them to us to brighten up our day!" Its an awesome thing to see the reactions on people's faces when they get a flower. I have read that a woman did a study on the reactions to getting flowers and when people receive them they get a genuine smile a "Duchenne smile"

If you would like to see it in action, I did an interview that is on YouTube, search "Flowers for Strangers"

Random Acts of Kindness

I have a hobby that I have been doing for approximately 12 years and that hobby are random acts of kindness. I love doing it, it makes me smile and warms my heart. There are people whom I regularly share my hobby with and I have been told that they get excited when I walk through the doors of their establishments. I give flowers to strangers and/or to brighten up people's workplaces. In fact last summer someone that I gave a flower to started asking a whole lot of questions. She turned out to be a reporter and asked if I would mind doing an interview. I said yes and we did the interview.

If you are interested in seeing the interview it is on youTube, search "Flowers for Strangers".

I have been searching for random acts of kindness on the internet and its quite awesome to see that other people in the world enjoy doing the flower thing. I love it, I love the smiles and I love the way it makes me feel.

I don't know about that but I heard 40% of people asked said that Valentine's Day is the perfect day to propose. The other 60% were men!

Can't get this song out of my head
Posted: 2/14/2009 3:42:37 AM
We used to play this game at work.

You sing a song and try to get it stuck in everyone else's head.

All five guys declared me the winner one winter's day when I got everyone of them singing "You make me feel like a natural woman" by Aretha Franklin...

All I can tell you is "DON'T BUY DELL!!!"

I bought a Dell laptop two years ago and it was an awesome piece of equipment.

When it crashed last August that
awesome piece of equipment
became an incredible headache. Their customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. To the extent that they told me that if I was more polite then there wouldn't have been the problems that I experienced. The "senior phone answerer" said that he listened to the recordings of my calls and commented on my lack of politeness. He told me that I should have been more forthcoming with information about my system.
Dell is pretty simple, there is a user code on the bottom of your laptop and with that they should know everything about your system and every call you have ever made. I shouldn't have to tell them a single thing about my system because it should all be in front of them.

It took 80 days for them to get me the motherboard and proper software and the laptop has never been the same. This laptop I have now is definitely NOT the same one I bought two years ago.

Next time, I'm going to buy one locally so that I can walk into their store and see the person I am talking to...

1st Date on Valentine's Day??
Posted: 2/13/2009 6:14:11 PM
I did that by accident a few years ago. I didn't realize what day it was going to be when I asked her out and said "How about next Friday, I'll meet you at work and we can go out!"

Well next Friday came and it turned out to be V-day... I realized when I went to pick up roses and paid way more than I usually do.

The sad part was that when I went to meet her, I got stood up... she actually moved to Calgary that day, something she had in the plans but not for a few more months.

I took the roses and ended up at Hooligan's on Sherbrook, they were having a single ladies night for V-day so I gave the roses to the first dozen women that wanted them. Danced with a few of them and had a heck of a good time.

The strangest part of the evening was one young lady who came over and got a rose. She stuck something in my pocket, my cousin yanked it out, held it up and yelled... "It's a thong!" Yeah, she gave me her undies, to no avail as her boyfriend came in and dragged her out!
