Profile Phrases or Key Words That Make You Cautious
Posted: 4/10/2009 10:35:23 PM
any of the usual dating profile buzz words or phrases:

- knows what i want in life (usually doesn't)
- fun-loving (because most people aren't)
- easy-going (as in high on valium all the time?)

etc. ad nauseum

Profile truths....

I generally look at bullshitters the same way I look at bullshit, with disgust. Seeing as I have mirrors in my house, I tend not to do any bullshitting. But a lot of people do, and that's what North American society is all about... putting on an act, because most people aren't going to fact check you anyway. Thus I can understand perfectly why someone would bullshit, and would forgive them for it; whether or not the relationship would be salvaged would depend on whether or not I care about what they were bullshitting about. I would also be more prone to scrutinize them more closely in the future.

So I just came home from Mexico
Posted: 4/7/2009 10:59:02 AM
I liked Vancouver 15 years ago, when it was less populated, the air was cleaner, the traffic was better, and the real estate prices weren't so... anally intrusive.

Vancouverites should have definitely kept their city a secret.

Big city? Vancouver? Laughter ensues! I lived for 6 years in Beijing, a city with about 18 million people, and they're not much unfriendlier than Vancouverites. I wasn't even a tourist either, just another one of the Agent Smiths hahahaha.

No we should not spend one more penny on the Afghan war. They want freedom and rights? They can fight for it themselves.

I live in a town known for... single moms... and most of them aren't refugees. Some of their baby daddies might be though! Yeah I once had a date (a=one) with a high-school girl who turned out to have been twice pregnant, and did a fair bit of drugs. She was hot though! I don't have a point, it's late, sue me.

This video has made me realize how douchey green shirts make guys look. I'm noticing a motif here... all the douchebags in the video are attributed with the color green. A subtle reference to homeopathic medicine or herb induced vision-quests perhaps?

Public Transit Romance?
Posted: 4/3/2009 9:53:35 PM
I think I've successfully met one or two people on the bus, but that was awhile ago. To be fair though, I usually don't try to "meet" people on the bus. For me it's a 50/50 between getting a positive response or a why-the-****--are-you-talking-to-me alternative when I try to talk up random strangers. Meh.

Dang super nad, are those some Oakely Wisdom gooooogles? Love those things; great field of vision.

Neg Hits ~ Heard of them? Opinions? Ever used them?
Posted: 4/2/2009 1:26:15 PM
You have to use the right tools for the job. There is no way anyone can accurately assess whether or not a person will be susceptible to a neghit, which means if you use one, chances are you're no better off than using some other pseudoscientific pick-up theory. Then the question comes down to, why use it over some other gimmick?

I seriously have terrible trouble APPROACHING women.
Posted: 4/2/2009 12:51:17 PM
Approaching women is a lot like taking off on a big kicker. You just have to do it, and the first 50 times will feel gut-wrenching especially if you believe you're going to faceplant and eat it. By the 50-100th time, the fear subsides, and by 100-200 you actually want to do it again and again. After that, you just keep going bigger and bigger. You should take up snowboarding.

Try a new approach here now that you're entering the adult world. Cut the greasy looking hair and shave off the mangy facial hair and try for a new look.

Dude you have no clue how many attractive girls here in their early 20's fall over a cliff going after guys with that look.

Why cant i find a nice girl? with no baggage, who doesnt smoke, no debts, who has no ex still there?
Posted: 4/2/2009 12:31:15 PM
Is OP familiar with the concept of probability? Like the fact that the probability of several events occuring simultaneously is a product of their individual probabilities. Here's the basic math, whereby P represents probably (and 1=100%, and anything less is a fraction of 1).

P(good looking) x P(takes care of herself) x P(exercises) x P(doesn't smoke) x P(doesn't have kids) x P(no baggage) x P(no money problems) x P(head screwed on right) x P(interested in your qualities) = P(finding perfect girl)

You'll find that even with generous values of P for each of the above criteria, your chances of finding the perfect girl is probably something like one in every several hundred thousand women you meet. So I guess you're justified in worrying, which you will do for a long time. Good day sir.

What Does A Long Term Relationship Mean To You??
Posted: 4/2/2009 11:08:13 AM
Long term for me = 6+ months
Relationship for me = exclusive encounters involving emotional attachment and physical intimacy
Marriage for me = cultural formality, costing ten's of thousands of dollars, the intended functions of which are ineffective

The possibility of marriage depends on how much disposable income I have I guess...

38 and never been married
Posted: 4/2/2009 10:28:43 AM
Marriage has become an antiquated concept. In modern times, certain notions that used to be related to eachother no longer are. Love is no longer attached to sex, and marriage is no longer attached to love, sex or procreation. Maybe it's not the ideals you were brought up with, but social trends are changing, and if you don't change with them, you'll face extinction.

Some people do find that "perfect" partner, stay happy for a long time in that relationship. But that's really like winning the lottery. And unfortunately, because we don't live forever; we don't have time to keep playing the game. At some point, we have to make compromises to fulfill our needs.

my best friend 'loves me'
Posted: 4/2/2009 10:10:33 AM
The decent thing to do would be to tell him the truth. The whole "I don't want to lose him as a friend" thing is getting pretty old, plus it's blatantly selfish. It really comes down to you wanting to keep a friend around for your own purposes, while he goes through emotional hell. Better make it clear that you're not interested, and accept the consequences.
