What do you listen to?
For me, Star 98.7 in the morning. I advertise there, so i kinda have to, but Jamie is getting on my nerves lately.
Tom Lykis on the way home from work. Provides lots of laughs in traffic.
KROQ/KTWV in between, depends on my mood.

BTW it was flash friday today, did you keep your headlights on? I love Fridays on the way home form the office. I must admit, being a star listener in the am, and what has happened to that show lately (Jamie has taken over) I have actually been enjoying Tom a little more in the afternoon as of late. But I really do think some of his stuff is "out there", but what the heck, it's radio.

An Atheism Thread For the Rest of US
Posted:

@ Sotex,
Intersting path you found to Atheism, you are not alone, I have heard this same story from many that grew up in similiar situations as you, where a "system" was force fed and when those people grew, they bitterly moved away and into their own path, many found their way into Paganism of some form or another.
It sounds as if you have found a peaceful place in life.
While I do not know or understand alot about Atheism, what I think I understand is that they just don't believe in a higher source/being, God or diety at all. Is this a accurate assessment?
Also, I have heard/read some where that many Atheists follow the science/evolution theory, is this also the case?
And what is the difference between Atheism and Agnostic?
Sorry for the dumb questions, its just not a system I have studied or learned much about as I have not had close contact with a Atheist.

Alcohol
Posted:

the only major religion that requires its followers to completely abstain from alcohol is Islam!
Is this true? My step-father is Muslim and been known to have a occassional warm beer or glass of whiskey, I asked him about tonight after reading this post and he told me it was not encouraged, but nor was it forbidden by his father, who I also remember enjoying a glass of wine with dinner.
I was however under the impression that Mormons forbid the use of caffiene, alcohol and other mind altering subjects as the mody is a temple.
As for me, moderation is key. I cannot remember the last time I drank to the point of drunkeness, I don't like the feeling of beig intoxicated and hate hang-overs, but have been known to enjoy a beer with the Angel game.

Oh Father Anpu, continue to teach me patience and tolerance of all.

Find what works for you, if it be standing at the tops of the mountains and shouting the praise of Jesus, or if you find solstice in the woods near a stream watching the beavers play, just make usre it works and is comfortable for you.

What religion do you have the hardest time understanding and why.
Posted:

Yes, all the money spent building churches has always amazed me and never made sense.
I have never read to build multi-million dollar buildings to spread Gods word, yet it is done in many, if not most organized religions.
I can worship in the mountains, at the beach or even in my bedroom and have no need for these grandiose buildings and churches. They should all take the money and feed the homeless, or find a cure for disease, or give to battered women's shelters. I can think of many things to do with all that cash.

I am hoping I can get the thirst for the game again. Being in LA, we are not really a big hockey town, unless one of our teams are in the playoffs, then it is not about hockey, its about being seen at the playoffs.
Most of my friends here have found themselves at the same place I am, the strike seemed to have killed the thirst for the game in LA. I hope it changes. I try to watch the Kings game the other night and wound up turning it off. Strikes suck imo, nobody wins.

BTW, reincarnation is a lie from Hinduism and Buddhism, and is condemned by the Bible.
This is the exact behaviour that kills Chritianity for me, calliing other faiths lies, that were around long before Chritianty.
The Bible is a novel and until proven otherwise, in my opinion should be treated as such, poorly written and contradictory throughout, but still a novel.

they take off their kind-faced masks and their faces look like something out of a horror movie
This from someone that obviously has something to hide in his comic book mask.
Unitarian is the most unbelieving church denomination there is
They are not a denomination here in Cali, they are a open faced church that allows people to develop a understanding with a God of their understanding, and not any specific demnomination.
While you speak of the "conservative" churches, this may work very well for you in your years of gathering wisdom, however, for someone new, lookng to find a faith, most of these types of churches makes the new person run in fear. Particularily when they tell their congregation that they will burn in hell for being gay, having a abortion after a rape, or you fall behind in your monthly tithe (hard to buy the ministers misstress a new fur coat if the collection plate is empty).
As I said, I think all "churches" are bs and won't attend any of them, developing a relationship with a God of your understanding takes time, not a building. I have however found that the Unitarian church will at least give people a glimpse, without masks, wher you can read someones eyes and make your own determination.
To the OP, take everything here with a grain of salt and use your own m ind and heart to find what work for you. There are many ways to God and Spirituality. None of which are right or wrong, if they work for you. Be scepitical of anyone telling you there is one way to God, that tactic is included in the defination of Cults.

don't listen to any advice you get on these religion forums, for most people will try to steer you away from God onto some pagan religion, metaphysics, spiritualism, Buddhism, or other falsities.
Excellent advice, don't look for your answers here, the answers you seek will be found from within and also from checking out a few churches. Most Christians will try to convert or save you as it is their base system for their cults/denominations to recruit. Once most of them discover you are gay, you will be told that you are going to burn in some make believe place they call hell.
The one word of advice I could offer you, try to find a Unitarian church in your area. I do not attend church personally as I have found peace, but have been to quite a few services at these churches and have steered many people to them in their search for spirituality. They are open to all denominations and sexual preferrences and do not discriminate, or require that you turn over 5 - 30% of your annual income to make it to the pearly gates and fund their next Rolls Royce or TV program. Yet they do teach the fundamental concept of loving a God of YOUR understanding. That is what is important, you cannot relate to what you cannot understand.
As for proof of Gods existence, there is none, it is a belief system, like any other religion, it requires faith, not proof.
Find what works for you, you will know it in your heart as you will find yourself in a place of comfort.
Good luck in your search!

Lol, I have often wondered the same thing about a few of our coastal communities such as Malibu, but what the heck, I will take our Earthquakes and mud slides over cold, snowy, icy...................."don't want to leave the house weather" that I see in other parts of the Country.
Heck, for not having a pro football team to cheer for anymore, I still love it here!
As for snobs/judgemental people, I think they are everywhere, for the most part I think California natives are pretty open minded. Remember, we have alot of transplants here from EVERYWHERE!

My personal desires in this situation are already documented, no brain function = pull the plug. I will not live on machines.
I would have to agree when a person is suffering in pain that can never be recovered from or has no brain function, it is a very viable option. Even if I were not on life support but had a un-curable illness that was causing pain and suffering (as well as a financial drain on my family), I would most likely find a way to pay my final check so to speak. My spirituality condones my belief in this topic.

On that note, how do people here who work with the Divine in the plural sense (Gods and/or Goddesses) view those Deities who you work with? Do you believe they are their own separate beings?
Personally, I see them as seperate energy forces (I work with different Pantheons for different needs, but never mix Pantheons together during my work), if for no other reason than when I am preparing a adoration, I go into the appropriate mindset to reach my goals.

DO YOU BELIEVE IN GUARDIAN ANGELS?

@Meekrob/Stealth2 whatever your name is
See message #42, it appears you forgot which account/profile you were signed in under and you signed a Stealth2 post with Meekrob. That is why you are being seen as having 2 profiles and admin appears to have seen through it and deleted one of them or you deleted the one that indicated you were bi-sexual when it was pointed out to you and your veil was pulled. Hence the discussion on "selective spiritualism".
@Dr. Bihn, you may be a learned doctor, phd, or whatever, but if you are a homosexual that explains it, you can't be a Christian and be a homosexual
I'm neither, homosexual or Christian, so this really has no impact other than the vile stench you are yet again spewing forth from that hole in the middle of your face to engage in a argument and "save" us all from our sins /GAG! Please, as I have said before, do ot mix your energy with mine by praying for me, I am beyond saving.
If you are in-fact not Stealth2, you may want to shed some light on the poor boy who is falsely beleiving that he can make it to heaven with his behavior, according to YOUR belief system.
While I was happily raised by my Wiccan Mother and Muslim Father (and they are still married 40+ years later) to choose whatever path I choose, I spent 16 years in Catholic schools because California's school system was the pits from a educational standpoint, including the public Universities here. I saw Organizazed religion at it's best and worst and choose my own path of "Selective Spiritualism. Yes, I mix a few systems together to practice a method that works for me. The bottom line for me was a simple realization, there is a God and I am not it.
Within this method. Guardian Angels and Spirit Guides exist, they are not to be worshiped, but used as guides/teachers and to listen to that "gut instinct" of when to do something and when to be silent.
One other thing that I did notice in a few of your posts, you refer to Jesus as God? But I thought Jesus was Gods "only begotten son" and that no other God shall be worshipped, yet you seem to be violating that by your own admissions, according to that book you demand everyone live their life by? Is this your own interpretation of the fairy tale/story that the bible tells? Or are you actually putting Jesus as a God on purpose to piss the Gods off? According to your own standards, its not a very good impression to leave with the Gods and surely not the way to heaven to meet your maker. I guess it is just another example of "selective spiritualism". You are quite the unique individual Imust say and I wish you the best in your path. May you find peace and solstice in your life.
Boy Christianity is confusing.

a person does not become a child of god until they become a christian first. prior to that they are just gods creation.
That is quite the high opinion you have of a religion that for the most part would consider you Satin for you sexual choices and would just assume see you burned (which I can personally care less about your choices, nor does the God of my understanding, until your opinion crosses the lines of judging others). There are even laws in the US baning you from what you do, most were established long ago by the fundie Christians that traditionally run this country. So let me ask you, is this another example of selective spiritualism on your behalf, part of the system is the only answer, but the rest is just trash for you to ignore? Very typical, I am not shocked.
So Christians have the magickal key to Heaven, cool, never wanted to go there anyways, way to stuffy for my taste from what I have been force fed about it. I'll take my own planet for enternity, Venus sounds fun.

i myself would never defend a jehovah witness's stance...beause they are the children of satan.
Wow, new one on me, but then again I heard the same statements made many times about homosexual behavior (yes I do click on profiles), but never believed either of these accusations.
I believe we are all Children of the Gods, and given free will, combined with a decent up bringing and strong spiritual relationship with the God of YOUR own understanding, will land excately where you are supposed to land.

Satan has power too,
Over who? Not me. I have zero faith in this entity and feed it zero energy.
I myself have been spoken to by an angel, only he looked like a man. An older man with one eye who was riding a rickety old black bicycle. He had suspenders on. He looked me right in the eye with his one eye and prophesied to me. This is not a joke, it really happened.
Sounds like possession to me. Might want to see a priest about this.

Yikes, and a large part of his fan club has developed this amazing knack for dictating to others as well.
I think I would rather be taught and learn my way into right living, than be "dictated" in the right way of living. Being "dictated" to eliminates options for modern day learning techniques.

Wicca, not sure what to think?
Posted:

@ RD
I started another thread to ask this question but it was deleted so I will ask it here. What does a person have to do to become a wiccan? Is there a ritual or speech the have to perform?
Study the concepts, adapt a lifestyle of being non-judgemental towards others and complete a year or so worth of formal training and they begin to ascend up the ladders of their own Organizations if they are in one.
If they are not in a group, study, adapt and dedicate yourself to constant learning and improvement of both internal and external issues.
It really depends on the path the individual is taking as to what the "requirements" to become are. For the most part, it is very simple, adapt a lifestyle that honors all living things. Pretty simple stuff. If the person is looking to advance, there are advanced groups/training programs out there in most of the major cities in the USA, I cannot speak for Canada.
All programs have a common, core value system, yet each is unique to the Tradition being taught.

but it's not good to be overly judgmental about an entire group of people, just because some are not being or acting the way they should act.
Please, this from the makers of "I'll pray for your salvation" and "the bible says". If I could count the amount of times I have heard "i'll pray for you bs............." My respsonse is always "please dont mix your energy with mine, I'll do my own work, thank you".

@ Cat
No problem, that is one of the things I have always found fascinating about the Pagan systems. They do not follow a doctrine or subscribe to the thought of only one way to the Divine. Because of this, they tend to live in peace with each ther most other faiths.
There are many ways to arrive at your desitination, find one that works for you is the underlying tone of the systems. What they do follow is the concept of the Universal Laws, "do the right thing, keep your karma clean" and you will get there.
Honesty = doing the right thing when people are watching........
Integrity = doing the right thing when nobody is watching........
I prefer integrity.
