good Luck.

Thanks for restoring my faith in mankind with this post.
It takes all kinds to float the human boat. Kindness, courtesy
and empathy paddle it forward. We all get handed out our portion from the
general human skill set - looks like you, OP, missed out on your portion of the basic
social interaction segment. Next time, try screening for what you are really looking
for and avoid the holding people up for public ridicule gig.

I feel that any genuine, articulate message that I receive is a compliment of
sorts (and can I stress ARTICULATE). Du u wnt to f@@k or any variation
thereof from any age group is instant trash. Would I do anything other than
send back a quick thanks, but no thanks, to the under 40's? Nope. I have two

Discouraged

"...dont get discouraged...get reinventive!" - best piece of advice on this entire thread!

I read the OP's profile text (pics are gone now), and I think I can see why a number of men may just "glance" and then decide she's not compatible with them. She describes herself as "a few extra pounds" - at which point a certain % of her audience will stop reading. (It is what it is.) Those interested enough to continue will, if they think like me, read the list of her interests and make these mental notes:
music (SIT)
movies (SIT)
computer games (SIT)
dining (SIT)
reading (SIT)
concerts (SIT)
(No outdoor sports or recreational activities are listed.) Notice a pattern here? Some readers, who knows how many, will make the equation "a few extra pounds + mostly sitting interests = couch potato." However unfair to the OP that may be, I think this train of thought may have been going through many minds. Most men her age who are in decent health are looking to date someone who is more active than this profile indicates. Dancing is good exercise; however, it is well known that dancing is of much less interest to most men than a day of fun (and at least a modicum of sweat) in the sun. In the spirit of getting reinventive, I suggest that the OP - and the other women posting here saying they have difficulty attracting interest - reexamine their stated interests and make their lists more guy-friendly. It couldn't hurt to try it.

interesting outlook. I have the opposite problem as I seem to scare most men
away because I am too active. I have to be true to myself though, as does the OP.
New activities can't hurt though. Perhaps, OP you might want to consider joining
a entry level fitness class. It could do wonders for your self-esteem and you would
not believe the number of newly single men in our age group who are out there
trying to get back in shape, ready for the dating market.

At 46, too active for the many and too old for the few?
Posted: 3/14/2009 5:42:13 AM
I have a similar problem. It appears most of the men on this site my age
are getting ready to settle down to evenings on the couch. There is
nothing wrong with a cuddly evening on the couch from time to time, but
I am looking for more. I actually haven't heard from too many men on this
site and when I put my profile up for review the common concensus was - "You're training for a marathon, you can't possible have time to invest". Not true; it's all about
balance. Anyway long answer short, it seems that at this age, for either sex,
activity might be a curse.

(yes have changed my status so, of course, not expecting to hear from anyone
at this point)

MANDRAKE'S house by the fire....for all to share
Posted: 2/27/2009 4:57:10 PM
Beautiful write. I mourn a dear departed tree. I can't focus for a poem, but I hope that Manny will indulge my small story.

I am sure the water in our small town was making us all breed boys. Between four
close families we produced a pack of ten. A happy Sunday ritual for many years was the Sunday walk with the dogs, with the boys and in my case with the cat, through a beautiful patch of meadow and woodland. At the end of the first meadow you would cross, stood a majestic old tree with branches that cried out for climbing. The bark was worn and rough and full of crevices.

The ritual was always the same. The group stuck together on the path through the first band of woods, until the opening to the meadow. The boys would then burst out across the field of grass running pell-mell, hell-bent to see who would reach the top of the tree first. One magical day they found coins strewn throughout the branches, throughout every nook, cranny and crevice (some enterprising tree climber lost their pocket full of change). The money tree was born.

Every week thereafter one "elf" would manage to get ahead of the pack to salt the money tree. Our boy-pack would burst out across the field and swarm up the tree,
searching every branch, in firm belief that this particular tree grew money in it's
branches.

All loot found was then spent at the little depanneur at the end of route that had an old-fashioned candy collection - jars upon jars of goodies to choose from. Much fun to be had over the deliberation of which jelly worm or bear was best. It was magic, both for the boys and for the parents.

Sadly, they razed these acres about five years ago to make way for an exclusive
"gated" community. Progress, sigh..... Maybe I can squeeze out a poem.

Released from the leash
The boy-pack streams outwards, upwards
Limbs flung upon limbs
Joyous upward climb
Treasure sought and found
I believe in magic
