Suggestions and opinions welcome

Thank you, Jeff, for pointing out my redundancy. Seriously. That type of thing bugs me, too, and I'm surprised that I missed it when proofreading.

Hi all. I've recently revised my profile, and would appreciate your input on it. All positive suggestions welcome. I would especially like to hear from gentlemen out there what you see as positive and negative in my profile.

Thanks in advance for your help

Plenty of Fish Theme Song : Add a Verse
Posted: 9/2/2005 4:50:32 PM
They passed many an hour
Sharing thoughts and views
Sharing life in general
While life collected its dues.

Slowly, day by day
As time marched along
They came to be a ‘couple’
That thought about lifelong.

A house they bought together
In which to share their time
He invested everything he had
Every penny, nickel and dime.

His life seemed to be bliss
Pure delight arrived with each dawn
But suddenly one day
He awoke to find her gone.

Undressed

Underneath the camouflage
Not a soul discerns me
Doling out what you expect
Refuse to let you see
Evidence of who I am
Safely under lock and key
Secreted so none will know
Expose myself to no degree
Drat, I have myself revealed

Next topic...transformation

Hey h3r4ty

Great poem h3r4ty

like shadows they walk around us,
places of green now turned steel and stone,
wraiths of their former selves,
like echoes they reverb around suburbia...

What a poignant description! Your words reflect my own disquiet when forced to be long away from the countryside. Too much concrete and asphalt between The Mother and her child is not a good thing...

Philosophy

Religion is based mostly on faith,...philosophy mostly on examination.

While I try to not judge others, nor to assume that I know what they think or feel, I believe that the above statement is true for many people. Personally, I do not believe in 'institutional' religion. I was raised Catholic (including 12 years of Parochial schooling and active participation for 20 years or so) and have studied other religions.

Subjectively, the very idea of 'godliness', spirituality, religiousness, whatever one might choose to name it, requires not only faith (belief in things you can not prove), but also the application of philosophy, both internally and externally. I find that my faith has much more meaningfulness and intensity in my life when applied this way.

For me, living my life by doctrines imposed upon me by others was much easier than taking the time to determine standards for myself, and then to live each day, authentically, knowing whether I have met my own standards. Realizing that we are all in this together, that what I do may affect someone I have never even met, causes me to set standards that increase love and compassion, and decrease fear.

What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us.
--Ralph Waldo Emerson

I love Emerson...

Always do what you are afraid to do.

I wish to say what I think and feel today, with the proviso that tomorrow perhaps I shall contradict it all.

I really enjoyed your poem. Finding the courage to express my feelings to certain people has been a challenge in my life a lot...so I can completely identify with your poem.

Just a dream

Edward,

I enjoyed your poem.

You know, so many aspects of our lives are like this, because we see things as we want them to be, or as we think they should be...and then something happens to 'wake us up'.

I hope you'll share more of your writing...

Subjective Confrontation
Posted: 8/21/2005 1:10:03 PM
Dare I aspire
To match the fire
Of someone like you?

A waste of dreams?
My silence screams
Dare I the trial to beguile one such as you?

Desire envelops me
Doubt engulfs me

My brain has become a battlefield
Simultaneous rivaling thoughts stampede
Subjective confrontation
Arrogance? or insecurity

Risk, hazard, jeopardy…is it worth it
Can I live without it
Is denial possible,
Without insanity

The notion has been renounced
Again, again, day after day
Reason returns, life proceeds
Then silently the contest resumes

I cannot see the outcome
Nor even state the cause
The victor shall be decided
By your actions

Mom's passing
Posted: 8/21/2005 1:04:05 PM
Her final days here
I sat softly beside her
Missing her comfort

At her journey’s end
I quietly abided
Recalling her strength

As she passed away
Unseen, I sat there
Treasuring her love

Jesus took her hand
As I lingered, lost,
Desolate, bereft
