The Rays picked up the $10 million option on CC and Longo got his first gold glove!

The intensity that they had last year against the Rays just wasn't there.

Sorry, I disagree with this, the intensity was there I just think for this particular series they were the ones out-matched, where last year it was the Rays. The Yankees did exactly what they needed to do, shut down Ryan Howard….though it did help Utley!

This thread is dead until march when spring training comes to full swing (except for the bos/yank crowd).

Nah, there will be awards, free agents, trades and signings to talk about, though it might dwindle down to just Marshfield and I. (Well, and maybe sum and Wiz still pissing in each other's direction.)

Rays traded Aki to the Pirates, saving his option to hopefully sign CC and that should mean keeping Zorilla…wee!

Kudos to the Yanks.

Hug for yeswho.

the NFL has produced mediocrity through the illusion of parity.....i don't wanna see that in MLB!

Heavens, me either. It's the very reason I don't watch football much anymore.

How many of you out there still screaming for caps and "a level playing field" ( that one still does make me laugh) honestly think someone like Teixeira would automatically brain fart at 1B if he were getting only $1 million this year instead of $5??? Matsui, Posada, Mo, Arod, hell even Jeter would these guys be crap just because they were getting millions less? Somehow, I don't think so, there is spending a lot and people worth the money and there is "over- paying" and NO, it is not the same thing!

Get off of it already! Don't advocate that MLB should be like the NFL.....it's is garbage now and you know it you are just so addicted you can't see the forest for the trees.

The Yankees won with the payroll....about damn time if you ask me....they deserve to enjoy it and we all have to chance to knock them off next year!

Now why was A-rod hit three times by the Philly pitchers in the last two games?

I was thinking the same thing, least it didn’t turn into a major incident. As down as I have been on Alex’s antics off the field the last couple of years I thought he handled it well.

Yankees are 27 outs from getting their 27th championship, kind of cool.

Yea, now the fan will have 27 to ram down our throats….WEE!

Hooray. Another store bought championship for the Yankees. This is unexpected. They only bought up the entire free agent market last off season.

Ah, here we go, didn’t we just cover this last page??

Well, just want to say if this ends up being the last game of the season. I have thoroughly enjoyed another year. I am torn between already missing baseball and thinking of how much more sleep I will be getting in the next couple of months! Ah, there is always ST to plan…..some schedules are out already!

^^^^^ Perhaps if the play at first wasn't so veeeeery close in actual time. I wouldn’t rule that specifically a bad call, even in the replay the ball is at the tip of Teixeira’s glove when Ut's foot is on the bag….purely a split second judgment call. Besides the real bad call was from the dugout not to have the runners going. I personally think the worst calls have been the balls clearly off the plate putting batters on both teams down by 2 strikes.

The “caught” ball by Howard was a big break but only if it were any other pitcher going to the hill but Mo. Sure, you might catch him off guard once in a blue moon (even the Devil Rays have done it) but in the immortal words of sumone the chances of that happening are “squat-diddly”.

Still some lousy calls but at least so far they haven’t had a major affect on the outcomes.

believe it or not , yank fans do not INITIATE sports conversations/discussions with past victories.....the history lesson is brought up in situations when others attempt to bust (or denigrate) what the yanks have accomplished.

Yea, right. I don’t know which is worst the BS you spread or the possibility that you actually think others might believe your BS.

Ahhh...it went over your head again.

.last year, we could care less about who won the WS!!!!
.i merely said that most of us (yank fans) could care less about who the winner would be

Hmm, seems to me and I am sure to everyone else that both of the above statements speak for themselves.

its that "reading thing" i suppose!

Yep, you should pick up a copy of “Hooked On Phonics“, would do you a world of good. Actually, you should get two copies in case the first one wears out.

But they won't beautiful blondblueyes, they will not repeat like the Blue Jays did in 1992 and 1993

Well, they are certainly off to a good start.

Awesome pitching tonight by Cliff Lee! Kudos to Utley setting a ML record by reaching base safely in 26 consecutive post season games and 2 homers and Ibanez with 2 Rbi’s. It’s probably just me but I loooooooove the Ryan Howard scruff!

Yankee haters would still find a reason to blast them in their times of glory, or to pizz on them in their times of mediocrity!

Just exactly how is that any different than a Yankee fan coming in and pissing on everyone else in their times of glory or to blast the opposing teams fans with “we have 26, how many do you have???” Again, sore losers/pompous winners, it pretty much evens out around here.

i merely said that most of us (yank fans) could care less about who the winner would be,

You don’t insinuate, yet now you have said it TWICE!

by our ettiquette, we only "brag" when we have a successful season(as bragging rights are always earned),

I call BS! As I stated above Yankee fans don’t “brag” only when the Yanks are winning, they shove every title down everyone’s throats any chance they get no matter who has won. Hypocrisy takes many forms? Is that what you said?

so by your observations then i guess there is no such thing as fan loyalty anywhere (at a time when a team is outta the playoff picture)...or i guess that's just me seeing it that way!

Hmm, that reading thing again…….I said …
Don’t worry, a great majority of so called “sports fans” only bothers when their team is winning so those Yankee fans aren’t alone.

its otherwise called 'sports banter'..

Thought that was what we were doing.

Baseball Rule Interpretation please
Posted: 10/27/2009 2:02:43 PM
I don’t believe there is any thing that could happen to make a foul ball become a fair ball, a foul ball is only dead if it is not caught. A caught foul isn’t considered a foul ball, it is an out and any runners can advance at their own risk.

Ive seen sometimes when a player gets strike 3 swingin but the catcher misses it and it goes past him, the batter can run...... whats that all about

The idea is you have to “put out the batter”. If it’s the third strike and the ball is either dropped or as you described a “passed ball” (or it can be ruled a wild pitch) it is an error and the batter can try to “reach” first base.

not stretching it at all, it is a FACT.........the thing that upsets us, is when hypocrisy takes a front seat in the arena..

Hypocrisy? Where? What team (or their fans) spending in the range of $180-200 million are complaining? Oh, that’s right there is no other team that spends in that price range. The closest one is another NY team which was $138. In order to have hypocrisy you have to be pointing fingers at something that is at least close to be an equal situation. As I said, no matter how you slice it a difference of over 60 million is not the same situation.

.
.though other teams have not spent as much as the Yanks, When they win, you don't hear them (or their fans) whining about the yanks' payroll, do you!

I don’t know where you’ve been but I hear it all the time and it has continued throughout the past decade even though the Yanks haven’t won a WS with that huge payroll. “The Yanks trying to buy another Championship”, …“Yankees always win with all that money” (that one‘s my favorite)………“No other teams have a chance, can’t spend like the Yankees”….any of it ring a bell?? I must be crazy because I distinctly remember ranting about these cave people right here in this very thread. Those that obviously haven’t been watching all the WS since 2000 when the Backs, Sox, Angels and several others teams not in NY were crowned WS Champions. Still, Yankees spending has been blasted every year anyway in blogs, boards, even by the media and of course it’s front and center now. You act surprised to still be hearing it. I am sick of it but not surprised.

do hear the owners/fans complain when the yanks have to fork out $110 mil in penalties that gets distributed amongst the "lesser" (AKA.. "Cheap-azz") clubs...do you?

Sure the owners take the money and the fans don’t really care where it comes from, most of them don’t even understand the revenue sharing process. If they did those actually associated with MLB, many players and even fans would not still be screaming for salary caps. If you ever hear those still screaming that MLB needs a salary caps that is an indirect complaint about the Yanks even with the penalties, because people don’t care or don’t understand it.

Yank fans are the most loyal fans there are, you'll never see true yank fans jumping on other team's bandwagons.…last year, we could care less about who won the WS!!!!

Exactly! A true baseball fan would care even if it the only teams still playing were the Schenectady Spittoons and the Lansing Lipspiddles.

.
the stadium is nearly sold out every game.........even last year when we stunk!!!!

Sure, that’s why the seats were so sparse in September of last year because they go support the team no matter where they are in the standings. Those tickets might have been bought but once the Yanks were out of it no one bothered to go see them just to see them. My issue isn’t so much with fans not showing up the majority won’t if the team is truly bad or are pretty much out of the race, but if a fan is going to brag when I can see for myself it isn’t always true I’ll point it out. Sorry, but Yanks fans don’t hold a candle to Cubs or Cardinals fans, well no one does in my book but again maybe that’s just me.

if you had any real insight into how the yanks benefit the league, you wouldn't posting this kinda stupid schit that you do!

No where in that sentence you quoted did I say the Yankees team. Do you remember who you are ****ing talking to??? I am one of the main advocates for Yankees as far as what they mean to the league and other teams. Again, I didn’t say the team. Maybe you should learn to read.

..we are only fans of the Yankees and not the sport????...what the heck is that supposed to mean.

Yes, I said the fans, so I guess it’s just a selective reading problem. I already stated why, Yankee fans only care if the Yankees are winning and on top, just like the majority of other team fans, last years’ no shows in September are proof of it.

The Yanks pay more money into the "sport" than any other team in the league!!!!!

Yes, I know that, we all know that, are you trying to say that $201 million means their fans can’t be ***holes? Do the fans say to themselves, you know the Yanks spent a lot of money so even though they aren’t going to the WS this year we should go see them? NO! At least half of them found something else to do last September just like everybody else’s fans that were out of the running. If you are trying to say different then I beg to differ who is being delusional. Live cameras don’t lie. Perhaps is just that you don’t understand the difference between being a fan of the sport and a fan of a specific team or just a winning team. Don’t worry, a great majority of so called “sports fans” only bothers when their team is winning so those Yankee fans aren’t alone.

Yeah, and every other team who has won besides the yanks, has been:....meek, humble and gracious about it, right!.

Maybe it’s just me but I certainly don’t remember Yeswho and I coming in here and talking a lot of childish crap to each other last year. I don’t believe I have seen any of it this year from Yeswho either.

Maybe you should ask the Wiz to mail you some of his sour-grapes!!!

Don’t need any, I am still here watching no matter who is playing.

I will be the first one to step up and defend the Yankees organization as far as providing the best possible product even if it is with the highest payroll. They are not doing anything that any other ownership group couldn’t do themselves if they wanted. However, for their fans to then throw other payrolls out as an example of how they are not the only ones “over spending” is stretching it a bit.

I will be the first one to also defend the fact that even with that huge payroll it hasn’t guaranteed them anything, the last decade proves that without anyone defending it.

However, I don’t care how you slice it there is a HUGE, HUGE difference between $201 plus mil and $122 plus mil. The next highest team isn’t even within the same price range as the Yankees and it’s the “other” NY team, with most of it sitting on the DL all year! (no offense JAC).

Also, a bit of stretch for Yankees to be calling other teams‘ fans “bandwagoners” when they themselves only show their faces when they’ve got titles and hardware to show off. Giving further proof that they are fair weather “Yankee winning” fans.

Problem with the Yankees someone asked??? No, not at all, the team is great it’s just their ***hole fans. Fans that are simply only fans of the Yankees , not the sport or the game just the team.

Well, sorry to break the news but if Boston fans are sore losers then Yankees fans are sorry, ungracious, pompous winners.

GO PHILLIES!!!!

Not that it made an difference on the outcome, but both Posada and Cano were out.

It doesn't matter who had the right to the bag, if no one is touching a base and they get tagged while play is in effect they are OUT!!!

Been quite a few more blown calls this post season for both sides though.

Give the centerfielder credit for his hurdlr over Utley.

That was awesome!!

I was screaming when Victorino over ran third base and Utley was bookin’ around second…Shane had to touch and go home, Utley in his heels. Great play!

I was quite impressed with Gonzalez myself and I was even doing the Tulo chant. Love the guy behind home plate in the Rockies jacket with the red hat on upside down …….great stuff!

Actually, I think it came unglued in the Rollins at bat, when Street had him 0-2 then threw 3 balls in a row and not being able to turn the DP which...... then led to the Utley at bat and .....then of course kerflooey!

Kind of a cross between Street struggling but Rollins and Utley battling.I personally think it was one of the best games of the entire first round. Rockies fans (maybe Yankees and Angels fans also) may disagree.

I don't know which one was more sorrowful looking though Street or Torrealba.

I am thinking the Phils aren't going to have as easy go of it with the Dodgers this time, but funny things happen in the post season and of course I will be rooting for the Angels.

^^^^^ I am your friend yes who , but all’s fair in love, war and the postseason.

Actually, those of us with “no team” have the luxury of rooting for both teams or just baseball in and of itself and for each series to play all the way out. Like with MM and his Tigers the play-off team fans are on edge, the rest is split between those us real fans want as much baseball as possible and those that aren't even watching anymore. I personally tend to start rooting for who ever is behind in on the scoreboard or in each series.

Men & woman of a certain size???
Posted: 10/8/2009 10:29:10 PM

Every time one of these threads comes up I am amazed at the judgment strewn around by the Homelies.

That is exactly the thing I find so hilarious about the bulk of these threads, it would be somewhat understandable if it were the “beautiful” people looking down on weight.

I don't care if somebody has their preferences, it's the attitude that typically comes with it that irks me.

In my younger days I actually had the experience of getting the “attitude” from the opposite end of the situation. I was very thin and had a preference for bigger guys, in fact my high school sweetheart looked like he could have been John Candy’s younger brother. I took a lot of teasing and grief about him from the “cliques“, many of them were thin, but homely, others were goof offs about to be flunked and some had less personality then a shrub. Yet, I was insane for going steady with a big guy, very romantic, getting straight A’s, funny as hell and such an incredible personality that when he (and a few friends) were killed by a drunk driver he had 700 people at his funeral.

C,mon now, you can't be a "skullist" or a "thinaphobe" why that would make you the same as those your talking about !!

I think there are a lot of very attractive people that are extremely thin, difference is at least they are pretty or nice looking in their faces. Most of the ones here in the forums complaining about others being unattractive due to weight look like they got hit hundreds of times with an ugly stick.

People can lose weight but it doesn't matter how many carrot sticks one eats, push ups one does or miles one walks it isn't going to make them look any better.

It was an awesome game, an extra game, extra innings. I really thought the Twins were going to lose it when Young threw to third instead of second to keep the DP alive, I think Gardenhire thought the same thing.

Is it just me, or does anyone else who's not the least bit gay think the Twins have to be the best looking bunch of really hunky guys ever to make the playoffs?

I am not the least bit gay so I think I am qualified to comment on hunks. I don’t know about “best looking bunch to ever make the play-offs”, but I’d say they are up there. Funny this gets mentioned because I saw the Twins in spring and got to see and talk to a few up close and I was just thinking last night how I thought the camera doesn’t do Kubel and Cuddyer justice.

Go Twins!

Why are women over 40 so desperate to get married?
Posted: 10/7/2009 6:21:04 AM

A guy has to commit himself to all the obligations but should not expect any of the benefits?

I haven’t heard but a handful of men view being married as a benefit, in well over a decade, especially if they are divorced. This is one of the main issues, for the most part as young women it was viewed as a wonderful thing to fall in love, marry and possibly start a family. We used to hear terms such as “better half”, “little woman”, “love of my life”, now all we hear is “tied down”, “Femi-Nazi” and “gold digger”, sure that makes us all want to rush out and pick out a china pattern. Much of this has turned women off from even dating let alone getting married.

Posted: 10/6/2009 8:05:31 AM

Blonde,
I don’t quite understand the logic behind your comments.

Which part don’t you understand?

If someone is asking another person for a recent photo are you stating their ugly as well?!

No, what I said was, it appears to me that those that seem obsessed or fixated the most on photos and the appearance of others or someone they may be interested in dating quite often aren’t all that themselves.

You mentioned the 24 year old.. Care to expound on that issue?

Well, what would you like to know? I mentioned him only from the aspect that he showed me a photo that obviously when I met him I saw the photo wasn’t of him. You seem anxious that somehow you will be face to face with someone that isn’t what they represent, so it stands to reason that you have one of two choices. If she doesn’t present a more recent photo or rather what you view as recent and it is that important then move on. If you are truly curious meet her briefly it won’t take long to find out. I waste an hour quite regularly watching reruns of “Law and Order”, I don’t think it would pain me too much to drive even 15-20 minutes (I do that just to go to Wal-Mart) and have some conversation and be sociable for an hour even if nothing more comes of it. Besides if she is “hiding” something it is possible she wouldn’t accept a meet anyway.

I also mentioned it from the standpoint that I have been on meets “blind” many in fact and never met someone “frightening” and that you don’t get a guarantee with photos. I think that sometimes people don’t take into consideration that not everyone has jumped on the complete new world of technology bandwagon. For instance I don’t own a digital camera, I think my cell has a camera but I don’t have a clue if I can upload photos or even send them through the phone to others or to my computer. It took me years to learn how to use some of the functions on my computer itself. I can only think of two times someone has snapped a picture of me in the past year, yet I have never had anyone not be able to recognize me right off at a meet. Not everyone is fascinated with mugging for cameras every few days or weeks.

.

If a person you`re interested in indicates they`re athletic and in reality is overweight who`s being truthful?

They may be delusional, but see in my opinion so is the fugly person worrying about someone that might have gained 5 or 10 pounds in the year or two since a picture was taken. There are ways to find out the “truth”.

How long do you honestly believe you would be on a date with someone who isn`t what they appeared to be?

That depends solely in what area the “appearance” didn’t match, by your logic someone that looked “plain” in their photo should be dismissed because they actually look better in person. After all the photo said “plain”, so it was ‘misleading“ and in fact that has happened to me, where the picture didn‘t do them justice. So, by that token I should have said gee, you’re better looking than your photo, bye!

Would you truly not be upset or feel this person hasn`t been respectful of you and your time?

Again it would depend on whether they were outrageously untruthful, but I don’t believe I would be fretting over someone deceiving me that I hadn’t even met yet to even know for sure if they were deceiving me.

The main point is that in my opinion people put too much emphasis on photos.

How does one define what is a recent photo?
Posted: 10/6/2009 6:21:09 AM
The thing is that in the majority of cases the ones that seem to obsess the most about photos or another person’s “appearance” (usually weight to be more exact) are pretty darn ugly in the face. I just find it extremely ironic. No amount of push-ups , squats or marathons will help if you have nothing in the “looks” department from the neck up. I don’t care how buff a person is they still aren’t all that attractive if they look as if their face has been down on the pavement their whole life. I just find it extremely hypocritical for an extremely plain and nothing looking person to be so hung up on appearances.

It is funny that after I read these kinds of threads I will go out into my area and take a good look around. I find that very rarely do I see many “stunning” people in an average day or week. A vast majority of people look very average no matter what their coloring, size or age. I think those that are obsessed with looks are destined to be disappointed because there are just not that many people that can truly turn an entire room of heads or stop people on the street with a “gasp” at their stunning looks.

I have been on a ton of “blind” dates where I knew nothing more of what a man looked like than maybe he had short brown hair and have never once come face to face with an ogre that made me shrink in horror. In fact one of those dates I went on when I had seen a photo of what I thought was an average looking 40ish year old man it turned out to be a gorgeous, intelligent and articulate 24 year old.

I already mentioned a Freeway series.

^^^^^ Cue the Twilight Zone music!

Yes, you got it and I agree the 30 gamer will never be again, 20 is likely to become a rare feat as well with the prominence of pitch counts and specialization.

^^^I think it has as much to do with laziness than anything else. Online people think it is not important to use correct English spelling, grammar or punctuation. Like so many other things, people are getting overly careless and casual about language.

That is usually my first thought when I see it once maybe even twice, but when it is the same forum regulars doing it repeatedly, it makes me wonder.

In addition, Toronto's GM is not returning next year as well.

I was just reading that!! Also, it appears the players are a little “unhappy” with some of Cito’s “old school ways” and want a team meeting.

The first time was just a few years ago.

Yes, 2005. (1981, 94 and 95 excluded due to work stoppages) Can you name the last 30 game winner???

Wow! I've only been to 7 match-ups, 8 games, 3 stadiums in 40 years.

I believe the only team I have not seen live either in regular play or ST are the Nationals.
8 stadiums, Qualcomm is no longer home to the Padres and Busch was replaced. 21 ST/Minor league parks a few of those no longer used as well. Lots of good memories, met quite a few players over the years.

I read and post more frequently on sports forums so I run into a lot of “loose” instead of “lose” and “lossed” instead of “lost”, drives me insane.

WOULD YOU DATE AN ALIEN?
Posted: 10/3/2009 8:23:10 AM
Yes, I have dated a few as far away as Pluto, a couple maybe from Uranus, in fact one very recently.

I had a great time in my youth with a young man from Brazil, spoke little English (didn’t need to) but alas he had to go home, he was very cute.

Have dated men from the UK, Puerto Rico and Italy.

Yes, it’s easier to enjoy these “historical” displays when your team is either not involved or on the positive side of them.

Since we are on the theme of stats…with last night’s hit for the cycle, Upton’s became the quickest since 2000 when Mike Lansing did it in the 4th. His was the 8th in the Majors this season tying the MLB record set in 1933. It was the second in the Trop, Carlos Guillen has the other one. (there ya go MM) The only two teams left that have not completed it are the Padres and Marlins.

Some other tidbits, there will be no 20 game winner this year, we screwed it up ( or maybe just helped) taking CC out by the third and Wainwright who was sitting pretty in the 7th with a 6-1 lead was pulled and the Brewers came back to win 12-6. It is only the second time in (modern) history with no 20 game winner.

In other news…

The Dodgers will not have Kuroda for the NLDS, he has a disk herniation (yea, that’s the way it was spelled) in his spine.

The Angels are going with less pitching and more bench depth for the ALCS.

I am saddened that Baldelli will not have a chance at a spot on the play-off roster due to injuring his left hip on Friday and Gonzalez is questionable after being hit in the wrist will have x-rays.

Manager Dave Trembley will return to Orioles.
Pitching coach D ick Pole will not return to the Reds.
Manager Eric Wedge was fired by the Indians but will finish the season.

Garrett Anderson hit his 2.500th hit on Thursday.

Michael Weiner has been elected to replace Don Fehr as the new executive director of the Major League Baseball Players Association. (everyone is going to have fun with that name.)

Rumor has it that the Padres are about to can GM Kevin Towers.

Also on a side note for off the field feats……a life long baseball fan living in south Florida had a goal of seeing every possible match-up in each league, home and away and he completed the task with the Astros/Mets series this weekend at Citifield. It took 55 years and 442 games in all AL and NL cities, he has seen 182 combinations in the American League and 240 in the National League. Gee, I thought my goal of 30 stadiums was hard enough.

And……..Tony Malinosky who is now the oldest living player will be 100 on Monday and will be in attendance to watch his former team at Dodger Stadium today.

Baseball Question.
Posted: 10/3/2009 7:09:26 AM

(I posted this question before so many already know, the blond haired blue eyed girl got it last time.)

Does that mean I can't answer it again??

I always keep score of the game, don't always agree with the "official scorer" though I have seen them change their mind a few moments later. The game last night was a challenge the Yankees had seven substitutions and moved several to different positions, looked like a spring training game.

Rays getting a little pay back on the Yanks, ran off Sabathia in the third. BJ Upton just became the first Devil Ray to hit for the cycle and it only took 5 innings.

Tigers getting their stripes knocked off and the Twins are kicking butt.....going down to the wire.
