Silver haired dancing machines your thoughts.

The hard part about dancing to me...in a group setting, if you have no regular partner, you change every few minutes. The men are trying to learn a new step and lead you all at the same time. The ladies are trying to learn a new step and each man is communicating something different but expecting the same result. It allows you to learn different styles but ladies need to communicate in a kind way--feedback to the man. Today in Argentine Tango --you lead with your fingers and chest rather than your arms. The fingers on the back are to pull back and then stop you and lift. If it feels like playdough--you won't get the correct result. I explained the man needed a firmer hand. He was not very appreciative until he achieved the desired result from his lead. It was the first time a lady had offered any feedback to him. That is how we all learn. We have to offer feedback. That all belongs in the classroom, not on the social dancefloor unless it is asked for.

The BEST crockpot recipes...please post yours~
Posted:

My favorite crockpot cake is the Harvey Wallbanger cake. It also bakes well in the oven in a angelfood or bundt (my prefered) or a sheetcakepan. If you chose to bake it in the oven--use the temp and time from the box of the mix you purchased:
The Galliano liqueur and orange juice give this Harvey Wallbanger Crockpot Cake a wonderful flavor.
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cook Time: 3 hours, 00 minute
Ingredients:
•1 package pound cake mix
•3-1/2 ounce package instant vanilla or French vanilla pudding mix
•1/2 cup salad oil
•4 eggs
•1/4 cup Galliano liqueur
•3/4 cup orange juice
Preparation:
Beat all ingredients for 2 minutes in mixing bowl. Pour batter into greased coffee can or manufacturer's insert and cover. Bake in covered crockpot on high for 2 to 3 hours. Remove cake and dust with powdered sugar. I have also made a glaze with powdered sugar and orange juice or 2 parts oj to 1 part Galliano . I find to use the Galliano alone makes the glaze a bit strong. If you remember the rum cake that was all the rage for a while, the glaze could take your head off.
And for those not familiar with Galliano:Liquore Galliano L'Autentico, known more commonly as Galliano, is a sweet herbal liqueur created in 1896 by Italian distiller and brandy producer Arturo Vaccari of Livorno, Tuscany. Vaccari named the spirit after Giuseppe Galliano, an Italian hero of the First Italo–Ethiopian War at the end of the 19th century. Its vivid yellow color, currently derived from tartrazine (a lemon-yellow azo dye), symbolized the Gold Rushes of the 1890s.
Galliano has been formulated at both 60 proof (30% by volume) and 84.6 proof (42.3% by volume). The latter strength is the original recipe, as well as the recipe currently in use. The sweeter 60 proof version is being phased out[1]. Among its approximately 30 herbal ingredients are star anise, Mediterranean anise, ginger, and citrus and vanilla.
Galliano has a similar appearance to Strega, another Italian herbal liqueur. Galliano is sweet and has a complex, vanilla-anise flavor with subtle citrus and woodsy herbal under notes. It is used both as a digestif (meant for drinking after heavy meals), and as an ingredient for****ails, most notably the Harvey Wallbanger.
The vanilla top note differentiates Galliano from other anise-flavored liqueurs such as Sambuca, Pernod, or Anisette. Galliano is produced by first infusing grain-neutral alcohol with the herbal flavoring agents, distilling the liquid, and then infusing with pressed vanilla. In the final production stage, the vanilla-herb base infusion is blended with distilled water, refined sugar and pure neutral alcohol.
The Galliano brand is currently owned by Dutch distiller Lucas Bols, and marketed through its worldwide distribution joint venture, Maxxium. Galliano is packaged in a distinctively-shaped bottle, which is reminiscent of a classical Roman column.[2] Several other liqueurs are also produced under the Galliano brand name, including a black Sambuca, a white Sambuca and an amaretto, which are predominantly distributed in Australasia,[3] where the products are popular as shooters. Galliano also makes Galliano Ristretto coffee flavored liqueur and Galliano Balsamico, presumably a balsamic vinegar infused liqueur.
Galliano is the key ingredient of the Harvey Wallbanger. Because of this, popular drinks made with a float of Galliano often include the words "wall" and/or "bang" in their names. An example of this is the Hillary Wallbanger, a white wine–based version of the Harvey Wallbanger.
Galliano is also a key ingredient in mixed****ails such as the Yellow Bird, Golden Cadillac, Golden Dream, Bon Voyage, Sailor Venus, and Flaming Lamborghini.
I would think you could make this cake using any other flavors you liked.

^^^^absolutely. We had a discusion today regarding dancing. Many of us who dance ...a lot are often passed on by non-dancers. I have had them tell me that I don't do anything but dance. Dancing does not define me. It is not who I am, it is simply something I enjoy doing instead of fishing, hunting, running, riding motorcycles....for the right man, I would cut it back.
I could live without dancing...... I just prefer not to do so................

I lost count at 200. A couple of year ago, I went through them and the books that only had a few recipes that I really wanted to keep--I scanned and put them in see through pockets and placed them in a notebook. Then I gave the books to my sister to see if she want them and she put the rest in a yard sale.
I still have about 50 bound books that are my favs.

She once asked why I do not dance with her any more and I told her "You started taking it too seriously for me and it is not fun to dance with you." Like many things people start as fun and then get competitive or in some way so serious about something that the fun get sucked out of it. I like to kick up my heels and I have some great moves but I like dancing cheek to cheek best of all
I am with you. I have had some lessons simply to learn some new steps. I have no desire to be a showcaser. I want a man to dance with-just to enjoy ourselves, create some new steps, even get tickled with when we goof! I dance to have fun not to impress anyone else! My favorite dance--in the kitchen with someone I care about!

What do you think about cougars?
Posted:
11/18/2009 3:05:20 AM
A cougar is not always an older woman chasing a younger boy. I am 59 and if I dated a man in his early 40s, I would be considered a cougar. If I dated an 19 year old, I would consider myself stupid. My rule is that I refuse to date anyone I would have given birth to.........so my cutoff age would be in their 40s...providing they are mature, we have things to talk about and he doesn't have a houseful of pre-teens and toddlers.

I use almond milk rather than soy as I don't like the properties of soy. There are plain, vanilla and chocolate varieties of both and none of the issues of dairy milk. The milk products ---cheese, sour cream in small doses are not an issue. Ice cream is a killer and I do love it.

New Stove

I prefer gas but just bought a new stove and it is electric. Reason, the cost of installing gas to the house for the range was crazy. Like another poster, I love the control and the instant heat. I like the fact that you can roast peppers or cook torillas straight over the flames.
The stove I purchased is a ceramic stove top--I do like that as to not have to clean the eyes. They make self cleaning ovens but not self-cleaning tops. This one also has a warming oven on the bottom. The new electric ranges also have a sealed in coil so the bottom of the stove is smooth.
If you go with propane--you have to rent or purchase the tank. You will have to have the orfice changed on the range to accomodate the difference in propane from natural gas. Be sure to check that when pricing the stove. See if the techs will do it, not hard, but you need to know what you are doing. It is correct--if the power is out, turn on the eye and light with a match and you will still be eating.

Cooking Myths

From my humble experience: a lot of meat loses excess juice on the platter because the person who cooked it kept piercing with a fork. I learned from a chef to always use tongs to keep from unnecessarily losing the juices. Mashing ground meat burgers causes you to lose juices and dry out the burgers. With experience comes cooking times thereby no need to constantly poke with a fork or knife.

What do you think about cougars?
Posted:

I met a younger man (19 years younger). He and I have a great number of things in common but we chose not to start a relationship but to simply be friends. The reasons---he has 3-5-10 year old children and the relationship would be short lived. When he is 50, I would be 69. When his 3 year old is out of college, I will be 78 years old. Quite frankly, I could not imagine being with a 78 year old man right now.
It can happen. It does work, I can throw the numbers around but the bottom line is that I don't want to be responsible for a 3 year old at this stage of the game. If he didn't have the children (don't get me wrong--he is and should be responsible and I applaud him for that), I might rethink it, but I still think the longevity would ot be there.

I have three girlfriends with whom I get together each month for breakfast, brunch, etc. I suggested something the others have never done, but I have----we went to the local tea room and had high tea. Two hours of total bliss and of course Rooibos and all the extras--however.....my scones are better! They loved it. While we were there a group of little girls--complete with hats came in and had tea for a birthday party. Their moms are bringing them up right!!!

A pack of hot dogs cut into circles (about as thick as 3 quarters). Pour one bottle beer over and put the lid on, cooking on low all day, ready for the night game., Makes a sweet glaze and a great snack.
A pork loin smothered in sweet mustard wrapped in foil and placed in the crockpot on low all night. Lift the foil wrapped loin out and wrap more foil around. Wrap in towels and ready for a picnic lunch. Or transport in the crock pot.
Pork ribs covered in choice of bottled bar-b-que sauce. Cover and cook on low all day. Ready for dinner---fall off the bone.

Pork chops w/gravey

Beadchick, thanks for the 'mixture' recipe. I really have to watch salt content and at 715 for the entire recipe, if it serves 6, that is less than 120 per serving. That is wonderful as I try to keep below 450 per meal--even at 2 cups per recipe that is still 240 a serving added to your other ingredients and I use fresh or plain fresh frozen with herbs rather than canned! Will definitely have to make a batch to use.
I think you could substitute beef, tomato or veggie boullion, adjusting to your recipe needs.

2)that is a new step for me, will you lead me in that again so I can remember it?
3)this is a lot of fun
4)thank you for asking me to dance.

I would say that Florida is cheering loud and clear now that the freshman roped by Lane Kiffen is now in jail with two team mates for attempted armed robbery.
I don't get it, these players are handed an education and the possibility of being discovered for pro sports and they want to thug out? What gives? It is not like they are hungry. The training table at the university could feed 2 armys!
There are blown calls but being in the battle is harder to see what happens sometimes than if you sit in the stands.

I love to use soup in a lot of recipes, I just wish they would cut the sodium content. I make a chicken pot pie with the mushroom soup.
box of pie dough from the dairy crust, contains two
rotissere chicken from the deli area
1 can of cream of mushroom soup
2 cans veg-all or other brand mixed veggies, drained
1 can drained mushrooms
lay out the dough to reach room temp while you drain the veggies and mushrooms. Pick the chichen off the bones and hand shred or chop-sometimes I toss in the food processor and just pulse a bit. Mix the soup mix with the chicken, veggies and mushrooms. Put the bottom crust in a DEEP dish glass pie pan. Pour in the chicken mixture and cover with the other pie crust. Cut slits and place on a cookie sheet and bake at 350, I can't remember the time but I think about 45-60 minutes. I am usually doing this after work and do other things in the house, so I check on it. Remember also that ovens vary. Serve with a salad. This is great because the prep time is about 15 minutes because everything is prepped for you. I have also heated the ingredients in a pot before putting in the shell to cut cooking time. You can also serve over rice or pasta and skip the crust.
Thanks for the recipe.

I agree with the poster about OLD tea, however, instead of throwing it out, if it still has some odor, I remove it from the bags if bagged tea and boil it in an open pot on the stove. It may not taste good to drink but normally has enough essential oils to make the room smell good. I will blend several flavors to suit my moods.

Most religions have contributed some very positive things to our modern world as Cassa-go posted. While I believe in God and was raised RCC, I don't follow mainline of any religion.
Personally, I'd want to have all ten people describe what they saw...
If you have ever had witnesses describe what they saw in times of panic or emotion--those same witnesses may not describe the same thing. I witnessed a wreck once, right behind it and when it was done, I could not remember which car pulled out of where because it all happened so fast. PS I have seen men who had the head of a bull and bulls with beautiful smiles and eyes..........
To those who don't believe the same way someone else does: If my faith gives me comfort, why do you feel the need to taunt it? Does it make you feel better? It is what you are charged to do as a non-believer? One poster who indicated she is of a different belief, very intelligently and articulatly posted a very positive statement recognizing the positive and negative with out being

Online Dating v Traditional Methods of Dating

Most of us become superficial online. Like one poster so correctly stated, it is like the grocery store--all the canned tomatoes are lined up and you look and decide which package you like but when you get those tomatoes out of the can (computer) and in public (first meet), it can be the best looking tomatoes you ever saw or it can be full of stems and cores. and look nothing like the label.
The same with photos...some man I don't know looks at my picture and profile and determines if I am right for him. A number of the men I have met have told me that I am much better looking in person as I don't photograph well. I chose not to do a glamor shopped photo. I know some of the women on here and while they are beautiful in real life--the photos are much better and other women like me look better in person. I have met a number of 'stars' and they look better after they have been professional made up and photoshopped.
For some men and women, it affords them the opportunity to keep several people on the string. Emailing with several while you decide which one to date....take that one out while still emailing the others. Eventually, the 'waiters' get tired or you lose interest. Some people don't type well or have trouble putting 'pen to paper' but they are very articulate and great conversationalists. But again, it not taken out of the can, how do you know?

Regarding the push/pull:
In West Coast Swing, it is called the sugar push or pull and a whip turn and it is a hard turn BUT the leader gives a firm lead, he does not strong arm you.
In the Schotische, there is a push pull and if you don't use/give resistance, the move is not properly executed and you will lose your core/balance.
In Lindy or Charleston, it may feel like a little stronger lead but the music is so fast as are the moves that you just finish one move and you have to go to another. The jive is the same way. Definitely not like the waltz. A lot of men who have danced their whole lives did the lindy and jive in their youth and try to execute the same moves now. East Coast swing is the same if the music is really fast, pushing, pulling and good hand connection is what keeps you from spinning out of control.
I have guys who love to dance with me because I can do multiple spins BUT I advise any lady that I teach to tell the gentleman BEFORE the dance begins if she is anti-spin or can only spin once. I have also advised the men to inquire before doing a multiple turn/spin to inquire of the lady if she has issue. I have not met a GENTLEMAN who refused to oblige the lady's wish to not spin.
If a man asks you to dance, he assumes you are open to any move on the floor. He may be the leader but he is offering you an INVIATION to dance, it is not a command. Ladies be in charge of the dance. In Argentine Tango, he may invite me to do a certain move, but I can break up that move with all kinds of 'decoration' and he as the gentleman is obliged to allow me to do that and to read the moves that I add to the dance. When I complete my decorations, I move back to the pattern and he will complete the move. It is not a dictorship, it is a partnership and BOTH parties must interact and be aware of the other.
I once danced with a gentleman who lead a double turn but had too strong of a pull down(the signal to stop turning). The next turn he lead, I stopped after one and he remarked that he lead a multiple. I smiled sweetly and said I know but that sudden stop after the last one was a bit much and laughed. The next time he lead the turn, I completed the double and his pull down was much softer. Sometimes the men don't realize the strength they use. After the dance, he apologized and thanked me for being so sweet about it and that he did not realize he was being rough. He became a regular dance partner until he found a girlfriend...she loved the way he did the gentle leads!
Just don't give me spaghetti arms!

I Don't Need A Man.., I very Independent..etc etc = RED Flags?

I personally am not against men and consider myself self-reliant. There are levels of independance. I think most men if they are comfortable with themselves would prefer a woman who is self-reliant. Another woman may use the term independant and mean she is self-reliant. I don't NEED a man in my life, I WANT a man in my life. I would need to be needed just as he would if we were in a relationship, but outside a relationship, I don't have to have a man.

Sounds like fun, Butterfly, but there is a singles dance the 1st Friday of ever month downtown Knoxville that I go to because I am on the committe that hosts. There are also other dances in Knoxville. They can be located at getdancenow dot com.
I was thinking the same thing about the swimming pool! But I always had figured blue tile rather than red mud.......even if red is one of my favorite colors!
happy birthday, Butterfly

No dustbowl at my house...........the water-heater decided to die..........My cellar had a swimming pool when I came home. I noticed a couple of days ago that my water was not as hot as normal. Figured it was dying and would deal with it next week when I was off. Started taking hammock to the basement and decided to check it out. Thankfully, there is a drain in the floor. I dread the water bill when it comes out next month. Wet red clay...........Went to Lowe's, purchased the waterheater for the plumber to pick up this AM. He did run by last night on his way home and turned off the water and electricity to the water heater. He will be here at 11 to install. So much for the budget. But I have a job and a credit card so I can't complain too much. I will just whine a little.

Is it just me, or are testimonials a turn off ?

When the favorites were on the profiles, I did not care how many favorites were there, I ignored friends who wrote about what a great catch they are. What I don't like.............and still don't, it to find a great profile and photo and at the bottom is a testimonial from some gal gushing about how wonderful he is, what a wonderful time they had when they went out and how she is looking forward to seeing him again.................and he is still looking?

I am not an independant woman............I am a self reliant woman.
I don't need a man.................................I want one who wants me.
My kids don't need a dad.......................because they are close to 30.
My red flags: I like to dance about once a week, don't care for NASCAR or motorcycles and I am allergic to tobacco smoke. Those things alone caused 90% of the men to hit next.............the rest don't like my looks.
What cracks me up............I have been called needy and too independant. People who don't want you will offer up any kind of a name to reject you to make themselves feel better. I agree with one poster--men don't want you to be independent but they don't want you in their wallet either...............and they say women can't make up their minds.

RE:We live in a world were everyone has a camera on their phone!
Believe it or not, not everyone has a cell phone but why does every beergutted guy who has one think he has to take off his shirt and stand in front of the mirror, take his photo and post it on POF?

Would you live with someone you want to marry?

Discussing blended families is important if you still have children at home but I guess for those of us whose chicks have flow the nest we don't think about it as much. BUT you still blend to some degree and hope everyone will like each other. Just not as important when the children no longer live at home. You are right to keep that in the thought process if you children are with you.
Mine just say....as long as he treats you well.

One of the places I go to dance has the perfect setup: tables and the snack bar are divided from the dance area which also has tables. If you don't want to dance--you go to the snack bar area to socialize. There is a large glassed wall between so the socializers can see the dancers and hear the music.
Life would be less complicated if people just used simple manners and learned not everyone marches to the same drummer. I dance to mine................

I lived with my ex prior to marriage. The piece of paper made a difference. Once we had that piece of paper that so many claim makes no difference...he changed. I have talked to men and women who both indicated they lived with someone and after marriage the other person no longer behaved the same. I am not saying that living together is a bad thing for others, I just don't think I would choose it for myself. I would rather keep my house and he keep his and tunnel under the road.

Dancing well does not impress me; if you want to really leave an impression, do volunteer work or find a cure for some illness.
Really? Seriously? Do you think twirling and twinkling about on a small wooden area is going to leave a mark in this world? Karma is calling....calling...calling.....
I dance well but I also do volunteer work and support worthy charitable causes. Dancing is no different than any other activity done as exercise....you just wear nicer clothes. Just because you dance does not mean you are not putting in your time and talent to make this a better world.
Dancing has been shown to improve memory and improve blood pressure readings as it is exercise. If you are dancing to a fast song, the cardio is as good as on a treadmill. It also tones muscles in the arms and legs and is good for posture as you have to find your core to correctly execute some moves, especially in Argentine Tango. Country western dances require lots of spins as does East Coast Swing, just because you may not dance--don't rule it out and maligne others who choose it.
Assumption is never a good thing....................

The sad fact is that I would like to have a significant other who dances, especially Tango. I have found that wanting a dancer for a partner disqualifies about 95% of the available age appropriate population of the opposite sex. Then one gets into all the other non dancing issues that colour any relationship. My area has a nice, but small dancing community, have many great lady friends, just not that one who clicks. I often meet wonderful women when I travel to the larger cities or festivals, but, then we go home and never see than again. It's a condundrum.
Here where I live, our tango group has 4 women to every man and those men are married but their wives share on the dance floor.......would love to have my own A-T dance partner or for any other type of dance.
