religion in a relationship...deal breaker?

I am a Jew - and went to pray yesterday in a new Shul that I had never attended before. It is a small congregation that bought a house for worship.
Two things struck me. One - most people there were married with children. Two - I saw an old friend that married an Italian Catholic woman who converted by choice to Judaism. She seems to have embraced the religion more than he.
I found that very interesting. I became interested in Judaism as an adult after I was able to let go of a bag full of resentments and misconceptions. It seems that when people view religion in a positive way much of the angst is lost.

People tend to forget about the almost 2 million Muslims (Palestinians) - who live in poverty beyond anything we can conceive - living in Gaza and the West Bank who are not considered citizens. They have absoultely no rights....not even to vote . This doesn't include the 5 million Palestinian refugees who have been forced from their homes and are now living in other countries in the Middle East.
There is no such thing as a Palestinian. How about some history of who these people are?
BTW, what Muslim country has 25% Jews?

There are Christians and Muslims that are citzens in Israel. Where does one get the idea that Israelis hate Christians?
What is suspect about Emanuels pick is that he is not what Obama promised in any way shape or form.
He is not inclined to reach across any lines and is a DC insider. So far Obama has proved to be just another politician.
Hope?

Syria ready to cut ties to Iran for USA Aid - Peace in the making?

Hey darjeeling - Are you aware that 11 months ago Israel leveled Syria's nuke site. Anddddddddd? What happened? Nuttin!
Your imagination could use some grounding. Most of the Arab world is concerned about Irans Nuke plans for obvious reasons. They will surely stand by tacitly and act upset. WHen Israel levels Iran's nuke site likely the reaction will be the same as Syria's.
Their embarrassment will cause them to act like nothing happened.

Iraqis lead final purge of Al-Qaeda
Marie Colvin in Mosul
American and Iraqi forces are driving Al-Qaeda in Iraq out of its last redoubt in the north of the country in the culmination of one of the most spectacular victories of the war on terror.
After being forced from its strongholds in the west and centre of Iraq in the past two years, Al-Qaeda’s dwindling band of fighters has made a defiant “last stand” in the northern city of Mosul.
A huge operation to crush the 1,200 fighters who remained from a terrorist force once estimated at more than 12,000 began on May 10.
Operation Lion’s Roar, in which the Iraqi army combined forces with the Americans’ 3rd Armoured Cavalry Regiment, has already resulted in the death of Abu Khalaf, the Al-Qaeda leader, and the capture of more than 1,000 suspects.

The group has been reduced to hit-and-run attacks, including one that killed two off-duty policemen yesterday, and sporadic bombings aimed at killing large numbers of officials and civilians.
Last Friday I joined the 2nd Iraqi Division as it supported local police in a house-to-house search for one such bomb after intelligence pointed to a large explosion today.
Even in the district of Zanjali, previously a hotbed of the insurgency, it was possible to accompany an Iraqi colonel on foot through streets of breeze-block houses studded with bullet holes. Hundreds of houses were searched without resistance but no bomb was found, only 60kg of explosives.
American and Iraqi leaders believe that while it would be premature to write off Al-Qaeda in Iraq, the Sunni group has lost control of its last urban base in Mosul and its remnants have been largely driven into the countryside to the south.
Nouri al-Maliki, Iraq’s prime minister, who has also led a crackdown on the Shi’ite Mahdi Army in Basra and Baghdad in recent months, claimed yesterday that his government had “defeated” terrorism.

No, it isn't. Democracy requires stability. There is no stability in the region, hence Democracy can't last.
Of course it is. Iraq is more stable today than most Cities in the USA. There are fewer murders too! Citizens are flocking back and business is booming.
If you read the mil blogs you would know that one of the reasons so many are reenlisting is that they are investing in real estate and business in Iraq.
I understand that many are hoping we lose. SO sorry.
I guess when your Messiah Barry Obama goes there and then finishes hos back flip you will see the light.
Praise the Obama!

Syria ready to cut ties to Iran for USA Aid - Peace in the making?

Definitely big news - Seems to be something in it for everybody. The US gets a less powerful Iran, Israel gets increased security and Palestinians will be funneled into a smaller support base necessitating increased alternatives to violence
link - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/2253080/Syria-'would-break-links-with-Iran'-if-America-steps-in-to-help-it.html
From the UK Telegraph -
Syria is ready to break off its close links with Iran if America gives it financial and military backing, a former Israeli diplomat involved in unofficial peace talks has revealed to The Sunday Telegraph.
According to the official, who has been engaged in low-key "second track" discussions with Syrian representatives for many months, Syria's President Bashar Assad is increasingly open to a deal which would greatly weaken Iranian influence in the region.
Alon Liel, a former director of Israel's foreign ministry, said the prospect of a peace agreement with Syria was growing, though it might require a new American president before a deal could be agreed. Syria's support for radical groups including Palestinian Hamas and Lebanese Hizbollah, both also backed by Iran, has played a large part in fomenting trouble in the Middle East.
For any peace agreement to be struck between Israel and Syria, it would first be necessary to agree on the future of the Golan Heights - the lofty piece of territory claimed by Syria but occupied by Israel, which supplies much of that country's drinking water.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, Feb. 23 — The Cambie Surgery Center, Canada's most prominent private hospital, may be considered a rogue enterprise.
Accepting money from patients for operations they would otherwise receive free of charge in a public hospital is technically prohibited in this country, even in cases where patients would wait months or even years in discomfort before receiving treatment.
But no one is about to arrest Dr. Brian Day, who is president and medical director of the center, or any of the 120 doctors who work there. Public hospitals are sending him growing numbers of patients they are too busy to treat, and his center is advertising that patients do not have to wait to replace their aching knees.
The country's publicly financed health insurance system — frequently described as the third rail of its political system and a core value of its national identity — is gradually breaking down. Private clinics are opening around the country by an estimated one a week, and private insurance companies are about to find a gold mine.
Dr. Day, for instance, is planning to open more private hospitals, first in Toronto and Ottawa, then in Montreal, Calgary and Edmonton. Ontario provincial officials are already threatening stiff fines. Dr. Day says he is eager to see them in court.
"We've taken the position that the law is illegal," Dr. Day, 59, says. "This is a country in which dogs can get a hip replacement in under a week and in which humans can wait two to three years."
Dr. Day may be a rebel (he keeps a photograph of himself with Fidel Castro behind his desk), but he appears to be on top of a new wave in Canada's health care future. He is poised to become the president of the Canadian Medical Association next year, and his profitable Vancouver hospital is serving as a model for medical entrepreneurs in several provinces.
Canada remains the only industrialized country that outlaws privately financed purchases of core medical services. Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other politicians remain reluctant to openly propose sweeping changes even though costs for the national and provincial governments are exploding and some cancer patients are waiting months for diagnostic tests and treatment.
But a Supreme Court ruling last June — it found that a Quebec provincial ban on private health insurance was unconstitutional when patients were suffering and even dying on waiting lists — appears to have become a turning point for the entire country.
"The prohibition on obtaining private health insurance is not constitutional where the public system fails to deliver reasonable services," the court ruled.
In response, the Quebec premier, Jean Charest, proposed this month to allow private hospitals to subcontract hip, knee and cataract surgery to private clinics when patients are unable to be treated quickly enough under the public system. The premiers of British Columbia and Alberta have suggested they will go much further to encourage private health services and insurance in legislation they plan to propose in the next few months.
Private doctors across the country are not waiting for changes in the law, figuring provincial governments will not try to stop them only to face more test cases in the Supreme Court.
One Vancouver-based company launched a large for-profit family medical clinic specializing in screening and preventive medicine here last November. It is planning to set up three similar clinics — in Toronto, Ottawa and London, Ontario — next summer and nine more in several other cities by the end of 2007. Private diagnostic clinics offering MRI tests are opening around the country.
Canadian leaders continue to reject the largely market-driven American system, with its powerful private insurance companies and 40 million people left uninsured, as they look to European mixed public-private health insurance and delivery systems

What I meant was that a 400,000,000 contract means that they have to have over 50,000 in advertising income for every single hour of his show, ever day every week of every year JUST to break even on HIS contract, not counting any other production costs such as sales, studio, legal defense, , , etc. However, I'm sure he saves a fortune on fact checking and research, but it is what is known is economics as a "Loss Leader."
LOSS LEADER ! That is the dumbest freakin thing I have read here to date? Do you think CLear is losing money on Rush? LMAO! Why can't you get your head around the numbers and realize that Clear is making a fortune on him and does not need a FOOKIN LOSS LEADER! Why on earth would they need a loss leader?

Contrast that to Air AntiAmerica - they were 100% subsidized and still landed in bankruptcy with several imprisoned leaders.

Are rising corn prices to blame?
Posted:

Romeo - You may be missing the point. Farmers are selling corn to the highest bidder. The ignorant subsidies that CONGRESS has extended to Oil Companies to produce Ethanol and Bio Diesel has driven prices up and created shortages for food suppliers. Some of the shortages result in reduced production and then higher prices to compensate. This includes "high fructose corn syrup" that sweetens many foods.
Then of course the price of oil to transport food compounds the price increases.
The best thing that will come of the rising gas prices will be the death of many of the biased newspapers in the USA. The cost of producing most printed matter is 60% transportation. Trees to the paper mills - Paper to printing plant - printed matter to consumer.
Many foods have the same transportation costs involved in production.
I blame the whole mess on Al Goreacle and his disciples.

You're in luck. Nobody's actually proposing that personal toilet paper use be legislated.
One celebrity made one remark without thinking, the "news" media jumped all over it, and now you act like it's real, just because it was repeated on television a dozen times.
I worry more about the dictatorship that relies on unreliable and incomplete news reporting.
More proof of the wingnuts and their insane thinking regarding the environment. Crow said it in all of her compassionate seriousness. This while she was on a gas guzzling tour of the USA that consisted of 10-12 tractor trailers. She only retracted when she came down from her trip and realized she was the laughing stock of YOU TUBE
Paper companies have been replenishing their forests at 100% for more than 25 years. I will use as much toilet paper as required.
I hope all of these whack jobs use one piece of toilet paper to wipe their hind ends - It will make it easier to identify them in public.

Designer Pets through engineering

I hate to burst any bubbles here - HOWEVAH - this has been going on for thousands of years.
All Dog Breeds were created by man. In the past they were created to help with functions such as herding, hunting and retrieving. Since we as a society rely on animals less for these functions breeders are trying to come up with breeds that make better pets. The use of Poodle Breeds with others - labradoodles, goldendoodles,****poos etc, create friendly Dogs that do not shed - important for people with Dog allergies.
Certainly better than all of the freakin PitBulls that are being adopted out.
What is the problem?

iam,
you are very poorly informed.
the FISA bill, although not everything the Democrats wanted, is nothing like what Bush wanted.
No sir - You are ill informed. I can see that you are from SF and surely have some need to defend Botox Nancy - HOWEVAH -
The major point in the FISA bill that the spineless Dem leaders like Barry Obama promised a filibuster on - remains! The telecoms will be immune from any retribution and the BS that Barry Obama espoused about a filibuster has morphed into more spineless flip flopping.
Pelosi also promised to end the War - yet Bush got his way on that too.
Last year she declared July 4 energy independence Day - WTF??
What did she do since last year to help our Country attain energy independence?
OH - she appropriated millions to have gourmet food served in the Congressional Eateries. NOT BAD -
Then she tried to appropriate a full size Jet that would not have to stop to refuel to transport HER across the COuntry - NOT BAD
Oh - I almost forgot - SHe went to Syria, betrayed the Israelis and told Terroist President Assad that the road to peace leads to Damascus!
SHe is a useless dimwit. No wonder that Congress has an approval rating that is 1/2 of President Bush.

Israeli's masterminded Columibian hostage rescue

Who didn't know that ?? Who else??
Here is more from ynet news - http://www.ynetnews.com/articles/0,7340,L-3563850,00.html
Former Colombian presidential candidate Ingrid Betancourt, who was released after six years in captivity on Wednesday, compared her “impeccable” rescue operation to Israeli commando operations.
Perhaps she did not know it, but Israel indeed contributed to the elaborately-planned, daring rescue mission.
…Since word of the dramatic rescue spread, speculation in the world media has attributed the success to people trained by Israeli intelligence. But an Israeli figure familiar with the military aid to Colombia said there was “no need to exaggerate” Israel’s involvement in the operation.
The Israelis involved in the operation feel it is important to accord the credit to Colombia. The Israeli activity, involving dozens of Israeli security experts, was coordinated by Global CST, owned by former General Staff operations chief, Brigadier General (res.) Israel Ziv, and Brigadier (res.) Yossi Kuperwasser.
“It’s a Colombian Entebbe operation,” Ziv said Thursday when he returned from Bogota. “Both regarding its national and international importance. Betancourt has become a symbol of the struggle against international terror. This is an amazing operation that wouldn’t shame any army or special forces anywhere in the world.”
Asked about the Israeli involvement in it Ziv said there is “no need to exaggerate.”
“We don’t want to take credit for something we didn’t do,” a company source said. “We helped them prepare themselves to fight terror. We helped them to plan operations and strategies and develop intelligence sources. That’s quite a bit, but shouldn’t be taken too far.”

An Increase In Covert Ops Against Iran?
Posted:

And who says no one gets enraged when they see people beheaded by terrorists?? Did you question Hersch and find out that this does not bother him?? Obviously it's disgusting beyond words when that has happened and to top it off been videotaped and put on the Internet. But that should basically go without saying. Anyone who's not a total sociopath would get upset seeing that. America holds itself to a far higher standard (ideally) than Middle Eastern nations (again, Israel included) and of course holds itself to a far higher standard than terrorists ; so the level they all may descend to with their behaviours should not affect America nor should it somehow sanction America's likewise behaving in similar fashion.
Ahem Ahem - Hirsch is a so called journalist. All one has to do to test his sympathies is review what he writes about. So genius - can you show me anything this doped up liberal has written in defense of Americans being abused by Muslim terrorists. I have no reason to speak with a whack job like him -
And =- how about pointing out anything freakin thing that he has written about in recent times that is actually true and revealing.
The EYE DEAR that the USA would assassinate Ahmadenijihad is so far out that it is amusing listening to the bong breathers discuss it whiletrying to act intelligent. I just wonder if your Chairman Mao posters have yellowed yet.
I do not expect any anti semetic desktop jockeys that have never put anything more than their little finger nails at risk to understand what goes on in the trenches.
So type away - and PULEASE be careful not to mess up your manicure~!

maybe it has something to do with the Republicans record number of Filibusters or potential Filibusters to block any proposed legislation?
did you somehow forget that when the Democrats threatened a filibuster in the past, the Republican threatened the "Nuclear Option". Now the Republicans prevent cloture on bills on a regular basis.
So, to answer your question, the Republicans have shut down any action so they can point at how ineffective the Democratic Congress is.
Is this not obvious? It should be.
Kidding me!
WOW - then they should stop promising anything and just whine like the spineless babies that they are -
I mean they just passed the FISA Bill after whining for years - EXACTLY LIKE BUSH WANTED the Bill to be written.
If I were a Democrat I would be VERY upset with these whining useless politicians. Based on their approval ratings I many ARE~~!

An Increase In Covert Ops Against Iran?

With all respect - Hirsch did not break Abu Garib - He was recently arrested for DUI. He has published many supposed "exposee'" articles that have been 100% unadulterated BS.
He is still living off of his 1970's Mai Lai Massacre reporting, the last truth that he reported. His articles quote no sources directly and use the typical vague references to sources that can never be accountable.
If you choose to believe reporting like this fine. I stopped trusting non sense like this. I saw first hand how reporters like Hirsch concoct their lies.
BTW - what was so bad about Abu Garib anyway?
I served in the Middle East - what went on their is childs play. Why don't people like Hirsch become enraged when Americans are beheaded by Muslims?
I dont get it!

Pelosi Declare July 4 - 2007 - Energy Independnece Day - OOPS!

Below is an article describing last years Big MOVE by the newly elected Democratic Congress declaring July 4 - 2007 Energy Independence Day.
I guess it did not work so well! Now these same politicians are blaming Bush - How does this happen?
The Democratic Congress promised many things - and has delivered nothing.
Who is responsible now?
Democrats Declare July 4 'Energy Independence Day'
By Susan Jones
CNSNews.com Senior Editor
April 26, 2007
(CNSNews.com) - "Global warming is "one of humanity's greatest challenges," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi declared on Wednesday. She said House Democrats are "working diligently" on legislation to address global warming challenges, and they expect to unveil their proposals by July 4, which she called "Energy Independence Day."
Speaking at a League of Conservation Voters' dinner in Washington Wednesday evening, Pelosi said future generations "must be first and foremost in our minds as we consider the conclusions of the scientific community: the planet is warming, human activity is responsible, and the effects are already evident around us."
She said the House will lead by example: "It is time for Congress to act on its own carbon footprint," she said, applauding Sen. Barbara Boxer for getting key offices to switch to energy efficient lighting and introducing legislation that will promote energy efficiency in federal buildings.
"Just last week, I was proud to join other House leaders in announcing a 'Green the Capitol Initiative,' which will result in us operating the House in a carbon neutral manner at the earliest possible date, but certainly by the end of the 110th Congress," Pelosi said.
"We will adopt innovative solutions, such as purchasing 100 percent renewable electric power, ensuring wood for our furniture is sustainably harvested, and conducting a comprehensive review of our recycling initiative," Pelosi said.
She said Democrats want to convert the Capitol Power Plant to a combined heat and power system and improve the House office building ventilation system. She did not give a cost estimate.
"It is so exciting to stand before you as Speaker of the House and know that because of all our hard work together, we have elected a Congress that takes real action on behalf of our beautiful planet," Pelosi said.
"The days of rejecting the science of global warming are over, as are the days of standing idly by."
Pelosi concluded with a reference to the Old Testament: "To minister to the needs of God's creation is an act of worship. To ignore those needs is to dishonor the God who made us."
Some critics have accused liberal Democrats of putting global warming on a par with religion, just as Pelosi did on Wednesday.
Rep. Ed Markey (D-Mass.), who chairs a new House Select Committee on Energy Independence and Global Warming, said last week that climate change is a national security issue.
At the inaugural hearing of the panel he chairs, Markey urged forceful action to "curb our dangerous dependence on imported oil and reduce our emissions of global warming pollution."
But Rep. James Sensenbrenner, the ranking Republican on the select committee, has urged a "common-sense" approach to "big questions" about mankind's contribution to recent climate fluctuations.
"I believe we should continue to foster a healthy economic climate, and at the same time, make responsible decisions and seek innovations to lessen our impact on the global climate," Sensenbrenner said in news release last month.
"'Let's Be Responsible' may not grab headlines like 'The Sky is Falling,' but it has the virtue of being correct. It also recognizes that there are two climates this panel, and Congress, have to be concerned with. One is environmental, and the other is economic."
Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), a leading skeptic of the nation that human activity is impacting the climate, has called global warming the most "media-hyped environmental issue of all time."

Animal rights group turns its fire on celebrity meat-eaters

First off - I am a Vegetarian and an Animal lover. PETA is the farthest thing from an "Animal Rights Group" They are a bunch of burned out folks that get their jollies off running around nekked carrying signs.
Their leaders have been indicted and convicted of Animal Cruelty several times - see link -
http://www.consumerfreedom.com/news_detail.cfm/headline/3227
When they launched their "fishing hurts" campaign - that is trying to ban all fishing - I knew that these nuts couldn't pass a drug test if they studied!
See link -

There are many legit animal rights groups - I suggest that donations should be made to any group other than PETA -

Why would anyone believe anything that Hersch writes? He is a liberal leftist that has his own doped up agenda.
The last time he was right was in 1972. The guy has a drinking problem and will print anything.
I wouldn't waste too much time on his drivel.

What are the Consequences of attacking Iran ?

It is also worth remembering that any war with Iran will not only be fought on the streets of the Middle East, it will be fought on the streets of America and whoever else supports them. The number of new 'terrorists' such an attack would create will mean that suicide bombers and 9/11 type attacks will become an everyday occurance on our streets.
Whilst many controls have been introduced in both the UK and America to prevent further acts of terror, the fact that the attacks here in the UK were carried out by British subjects born and bred, working in respectable jobs with families, should tell you that you will never have any defence against these attacks.
We are already losing the war in the Middle East and are doing absolutley nothing of any significance in the war on terror, attacking Iran will bring the front line of these wars right home to us in our cities and towns.
Do you have any evidence to support such drivel?
Have there been any other Muslim Terrorist attacks in the USA since 9-11?
What did Syria do last August when Israel leveled their Nuke Site?
Do you think that Syria is not connected to Muslim terrorist groups?
This is too freakin funny to waste time on!

US Sucked Into Israeli - Iran Conflict

explain how Israel would attack iran's nuclear program without America's help? Fly over Iraq airspace controlled by USA? Fire missile over Iraq without America's support and knowledge? How much of their technology is indigenous?
Did America help Israel attack Syria last August? NOPE
Did the USA provide intel to Israel last August? Nope
Sooooo - why would Israel suddenly need our help?
Why do you ask questions like this?
Total non sense........

You served in Israel ? You were born in Canada, yet you served in Israel ? How is this possible considering Canadian armed forces have no operations in Israel -- and never have ?
Who said I was born in Canada? More non sense?
I served in the IDF - Jews that do Alliyah to Yisroel become instant citizens and ALL Israelis are blessed with mandatory service.
I have no responsibility to prove that your untruths are wrong. It is your responsibility to back up your false accusations.

US Sucked Into Israeli - Iran Conflict

DO you all read the newspapers?
Israel needs no help from the USA. Last August Israel leveled Nuke facilities in Syria.
Did the USA help?
In 1981 Israel level Nuke facilities in Iraq. Did the USA help?
Au contaire - In 1981 the USA supported a UN resolution condemning Israel.
Last year Israel gave the USA and the UN intelligence photos and reports outlining Syria's Nuke plans and facility before and after the bombing. Israel was able to neutralize the multi billion dollar defense system that Syria had recently purchased from Russia.
BTW - Iran purchased the same System from Russia.
I do not understand where some folks get their EYE DEARS from???

But hank you for acknowledging, that Iran is a peaceful and isolationist country who haven't invaded another nation in 3 centuries (that's 300 years). Israel is only 60 years old -- or have you forgotten this ? During just 60 years, apart from the 1967 war, Israel has in every single war fired and invaded first -- this is a historical fact.
THIS IS FAR FROM THE TRUTH!
I served in Israel - -please support this non sense!

When Israel leveled the Syrian nuclear facility last year Syria did nothing and said nothing for a month. After they cleared the evidence they allowed they the press in. Six month later they allowed the IAEA in.
What they did not understand is that any civilian could go to Google Earth and see the before and after shot of the coordinates - perfect proof of their plans to develop Nuclear Weapons.
Thus the silence world wide.
You can expect the same scenario with Iran.

ISRAEL will soon attack Iran. They will level the nuclear installations just as they did in Syria last year and in Iraq in 1981. Reports have been surfacing in the news all week about a LARGE SCALE drill that Israel performed to practice this bombing. The commander was the same Air Force Commander that masterminded the leveling of Iraq's facility in 1981.
The discussions about an invasion and US attack are naive and ill informed.
I predict that Israel will execute the attack before the election.
