Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don't forget your husbands.

The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has been canceled due to a conflict.

Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community.

Smile at someone who is hard to love. Say Hell to someone who doesn't care much about you.

Don't let worry kill you off - let the Church help.

Miss Charlene Mason sang I will not pass this way again, giving obvious pleasure to the congregation.

For those of you who have children and don't know it, we have a nursery downstairs.

Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

Barbara remains in the hospital and needs blood donors for more transfusions. She is also having trouble sleeping and requests tapes of Pastor Jack's sermons.

My vehicle is an extension of WHAT?

If women think that your 'ride' reflects your personality, they are sorely mistaken. I live in a very popular area with the 'celebs' in BC. I can tell you from experience that even they have examples that wouldn't fit the normal perception of what they 'SHOULD' be driving:

Bill Gates: Seen driving Blue Dodge Caravan
Chad Kroeger: Usually drives his Harley
Smoking Man (not sure real name): Honda Civic
Gordon Campbell (BC Premier): Seen many times VW Jetta
Dwayne Johnson(The Rock): Honda crotch rocket.

So you can see...the car DOESN'T exemplify what makes the man. I am like Jay Leno, I love cars for the heart and soul and the blood sweat and tears it takes for people to design or restore classic cars. It's truly an art form of love. Does it mean that these type of people love the 'human' people in their lives any less? No. I love to cruise with my nephews with the windows rolled down and music blasting. One of them asks, "Cruise for chicks uncle?" (he's 7, what you expect L.O.L)

So if a woman thinks that by adding a few things to my Jeep or any car I own for that matter is a reflection of who I am. IMO they are in all honesty 'Judging a Book by it's Cover'.

A duck walks into a pharmacy and asks the clerk for a box of condoms.
The clerk turns to the duck and says,"Would you like me to put that on your bill?"
The now insulted duck turns to the clerk and responds,"I'm sorry sir. I am not that kind of duck!"

A young man walks into a brothel and says to the madame, "I only have $20, what can I get for that?"
The madame looks at him without so much as batting an eye and replies," Go up the stairs and the first door to your left. There is a dead hooker, do what ever you like."

The young man goes upstairs and comes down 20 min later. The madame asked how it was and the young man replied, " It was alright except for one thing, her nose kept running." The madame turned and grabbed a rubber hose and bucket and said," Must be full, time to empty her out."

I must apologize. I blew a gasket because watching those 4 Canadian Soldiers being repatriated brought back memories of having to live through that experience when my grandfather was taken in such manner.

I know that 'MOST' Americans are good honest people just trying to get by like we are in Canada, I know the U.S.A education system is very narrow in its knowledge of the rest of the world, but their track record as of lately hasn't made them popular in any category or country.

BUT I will not, ever, back down on my opinion of American Media and its total disregard and disrespect of those that fight for our freedoms. I don't care if it be FOX, CNN or Joe Blow's Evening Report.

Call me ***hole, call me a bigot, call me a ingrate. But never insult those that CHOOSE to serve and protect us Canadians in any form (Police, Military, Firepersons) in my presence. I'll drop you were you stand I can assure you.

My original opinion posted at the beginning still stands. American Arrogance/Ignorance.

OTTAWA — The host of a Fox News program that mocked the Canadian military and sparked outrage across the country has apologized.

In a statement issued to Sun Media by the U.S. network today, Greg Gutfeld, who led the panelists in the tirade making fun of Canadian soldiers and the RCMP, said sorry for the offending remarks.

“The March 17th episode of Red Eye included a segment discussing Canada's plan for a ‘synchronized break,’ which was in no way an attempt to make light of troop efforts. However, I realize that my words may have been misunderstood,” Gutfeld said in the statement. “It was not my intent to disrespect the brave men, women and families of the Canadian military, and for that I apologize. Red Eye is a satirical take on the news, in which all topics are addressed in a lighthearted, humorous and ridiculous manner.”

Defence Minister Peter MacKay called the segment “crass” and “disgusting” and demanded an unqualified apology.

“They should simply retract these remarks and apologize to the families, most particularly to the memory of these soldiers and to Canadians more broadly,” he told CTV News today.

The five-minute segment, which aired on the Fox News late-night program and was later posted on YouTube.com, features American panelists suggesting Canadian soldiers need time off for "manicures and pedicures." The item aired after Lt.-Gen. Andrew Leslie, the Canadian Forces Chief of Land Staff, told a Senate committee the military would need a one-year break from operations after the mission in Afghanistan winds down in 2011.

"The Canadian military wants to take a breather to do some yoga, paint landscapes, run on the beach in gorgeous white capri pants," Gutfeld said with a sneer.

Another panelist Doug Benson said he was unaware Canadian troops were on the ground in Afghanistan.

"I didn't even know they were in the war. I thought that's where you go if you don't want to fight -- you go chill in Canada," he said.

The segment has been posted online (www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcJn5XlbSFk) by an outraged Canadian who titled it "How to Lose Friends and Alienate Countries."

Ottawa-based Conservative commentator Geoff Norquay called the segment "insulting and beneath contempt."

"In a week when we lost four more brave soldiers, Canada deserves better from this so-called news network," he said. "I really wish I subscribed to Fox News so I could cancel it."

Steve Staples, director of the Ottawa-based Rideau Institute, called it a "shameful display" to laugh it up at the expense of families who have lost loved ones.

"The dismissal of Canadian efforts in Afghanistan simply rubs salt in the wounds of Canadian families whose sons and daughters have been injured or killed in the war."

Liberal MP and defence critic Denis Coderre urged Canadians to write to Fox News to protest the panel and said Canada should raise the issue with U.S. President Barack Obama.

"What's a disgrace is that a lot of people are watching this and it is promoting stereotypes," he said.

Calling Canada's military "the best little army in the world," retired Gen. Lewis MacKenzie lambasted the American panelists as "distasteful" and showing an "appalling ignorance."

The bodies of the four fallen Canadian soldiers are being brought home to Canada today, three days after their deaths in two separate bomb arracks in Afghanistan. Flag-draped caskets of Master Cpl. Scott Vernelli, 28, Cpl. Tyler Crooks, 24, Trooper Jack Bouthillier, 20, and Trooper Corey Joseph Hayes, 22, will arrive at CFB Trenton for a repatriation ceremony.

The military death toll in Afghanistan now stands at 116.

OK OK I get the point.

NOT ALL AMERICANS ARE ARROGANT OR IGNORANT. I WAS REFERRING TO THE U.S.A MEDIA AND THEIR LACK OF RESPECT FOR OUR SOLDIERS AND CULTURE.

BUT

I want all of you that have posted against this stating its a big joke or to ignore it and go on with your lives to do one thing. I want every single one of you to go up to the 4 family's today that had their son/brother/father repatriated and tell them you laughed or chuckled at the media when they called the Canadian Military and group of Capri wearing painters.

I want you to sit there and see the look in their eyes as they bury their loved ones forever. I want you to tell them the exact same things your saying here, that its all a big joke and to ignore it and it will go away. I want to you to sit there straight faced and tell them you agree with that video clip that the Canadian Military is a big joke.

Your all going to mock me for saying this, typical gang mentality, but it just goes to show your worth and belief in Canada and the Canadian culture, and I pity you for that.

Many Canadians...NOT ALL...have become too comfortable with their lives and too dependent on the USA to think and protect them. Many of you have forgotten what these people are giving up to fight for our protection and others freedoms.

This has become such a big issue in Canadian media and Canadians because according to the Canadian Military that we have given more soldiers lives to this cause than any other fighting along with us. The show was a slap in the face to those 4 families today.

So let me repeat this...NOT ALL AMERICANS ARE ARROGANT OR IGNORANT. I WAS REFERRING TO THE U.S.A MEDIA AND THEIR LACK OF RESPECT FOR OUR SOLDIERS AND CULTURE.

And for your info..FOX and DOUG BENSON have made feeble attempts to apologize. But I think they opened Pandora's box.

Watch this video and then post your comment here

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tcJn5XlbSFk

This was broadcast at 3am..then during the 11pm news the following night. Just as we are watching the new of 4 brave fallen soldiers coming home to be with their families and earn their place at god's side.

I am thoroughly disgusted with the US media now. This just proves how bad the US media and education systems have become in the USA. When Rick Mercer did the skit of "talking with Americans" I laughed at how uninformed Americans are about Canada...but now we see on the media that their own people can't even point out their home state on a map of THEIR COUNTRY.

Isn't BC talking about the Upgrade to Serious Member?
Posted: 3/16/2009 9:20:44 AM
Paying for a service is great.

But when the site goes around handing out 'Serious Members' stars to random females for free what does that say about the screening process if there is one?

And as far as I know. No men were included in the gratuitous star giving event. Not that I'd want one now and pay for one, now that I've read some of the profiles saying "I got the star for free" Now I find myself suspect of females profiles because of this. Did they do the honorable thing and pay like everyone else...or did they jump on the 'Its FREE' band wagon while the rest have to pay?

It's like being told you got accepted to a very exclusive golf club, then finding out they are letting the public play the course as well.

I'm think they are pulling off the same things other sites do. Give a whole whack of free memberships to females hoping it will draw more men to the site. We did that same scheme in the bars. Let all the ladies in free and the men will come.

If no men got it...can we sue for sexism?? LOL

Google Money Scam

So what exactly was the point of your rant besides insulting someone's intelligence and being envious of rich people you don't know?

Well goody for you for making money off of adwords. If you had actually taken the time to read over some of the scam ads you would notice they make no mention of either of the programs Google currently offers to re-direct clicks to yours or other sites. They only make an association with Google through name dropping. I can use the word google as many times as I want and the company GOOGLE cannot do anything about it, therein lies the difference my friend. But you probably wouldn't have noticed that from Mount Olympus there Zeus.

Word of advice. Engage brain before speaking.

T.F.S.As Tax Free Saving Accounts
Posted: 3/6/2009 8:49:06 PM
That's how it was explained to me. I didn't fully understand it so thats why I figured I'd do a posting here. This way we could get all the info we need to make a informed decision.

From what I've pieced together about it. If I say set up a account with TD, deposit $5000 into a TFSA and then in turn use the TFSA with TD WATERHOUSE to buy stocks. Any gains I get from the stocks would go back into the account from the broker and be tax free.

I know it's more in depth, but I'm still reading up on it. All the bank and legal jargon is a little hard to get your head wrapped around.

T.F.S.As Tax Free Saving Accounts
Posted: 3/6/2009 6:58:10 PM
I was doing some reading and talking to some investors I know and they began discussing the new T.F.S.A that the Canadian Government hsa started.

From my understanding
- You need to be over 18 and citizen of Canada
- You are allowed to deposit $5000 per year into a T.F.S.A
- If you do not use the entire deposit amount this year. The remaining will/can be carried over to next year.
I.E Jack can only afford to deposit $3000 into his T.F.S.A. Next year Jack will be able to deposit $2000 from the previous year and $5000 to this year making it $7000 he can deposit in a T.F.S.A
- Contributions to an RRSP are deductible and reduce your income for tax purposes. In contrast, your T.F.S.A savings will not be deductible.
- Withdrawals from an RRSP are added to your income and taxed at current rates. Your TFSA withdrawals and growth within your account will not—they will be tax-free.
-T.F.S.A are like a normal saving account. You can withdraw money as needed or use for other investments such as stocks. You can withdraw and put back the money at a later time with no penalties up to the maximum amount.

Think of it this way. T.F.S.A is a big piggy bank that is held and insured by the banks of Canada. You can put all your money in it and use it as you see fit. NO TAXATION.

In the discussion I was involved with, someone made a good point. If say 300,000 people, average Canadians, just put $1000 into a T.F.S.A.
300,000 x $1000 = 300,000,000 MILLION

That's $300 MILLION that is put back into the financial system and you didn't even break a sweat!!!!

Now lets take this a step further. Canada population is around 35,000,000. Lets say 25,000,000 are over 18. Each deposits $500 into a T.F.S.A
25,000,000 x $500 = $12,500,000,000

THAT'S 12.5 BILLION DOLLARS!!!!! Can you say..NO ECONOMIC DEPRESSION FOR CANADA

If you people have more details about T.F.S.A, let me know. I think this is truly one situation where it is WIN/WIN for both the Government and Canadians.

Google Money Scam
Posted: 2/26/2009 10:22:48 PM
There is a HUGE scam going around right now about posting links on Google to make money. Here's the problem:

Google does NOT endorse this in anyway or form.
There is a testimonial website called http://www.billgetsmoney.com. The website is testimonial from some guy named Bill Ledford from Garabaldi Canada. Garabaldi is a small sub-division of Squamish BC, where I am located. There is NO listing for this persons name anywhere near here. The person describes some sob story about losing his job at a pipe factory. Squamish is a logging and tourism town. No pipes except for the ones being off loaded at the port near here.

I signed up with a phony alias and received their little package about this so called business. Then for the last 2 weeks they have been calling all hours of the day wanting to discuss 'A ONE TIME SPECIAL OFFER'. They want to send you more information for a incredible price of $39.99.

This is a SCAM..don't even bother. Googles LEGIT ad program is called ADSENSE and the website must be approved by Google.

P.O.F is not responsible for this posting nor do I accuse them of any wrong doing.

If you need any info about other scams out there right now. Send me a message or post some examples for others to look at. The more people know the better.

Live Auction of Custom and Hot Rods Sunday starting at 11am
Exit 83/ Abbotsford Airport

Meet Jimmy Shine and Marvel at the most amazing Wolfman Jack Tribute around on Saturday and Sunday and see Nearly Neil perform his amazing tribute on Sunday.

I know there is alot of P.O.F people out there that love classic cars. Here's a good chance to see some. It's all indoors and there is entertainment and food. The auction is great to see if you have never been to one before.

I will be at the car show Sunday March 1 to watch the auction and drool over the cars personally. I also want to hear this wolfman jack impersonator...apparently he almost like the real thing.

I'm inviting all you P.O.F people to the show. Maybe we will bump into each other and form some new friendships and maybe even find that other person that's into cars just as much as you. Yes ladies...sometimes classic cars are the fastest way to mans heart...besides his stomach.

2010 Winter Olympic Runners Uniform and Torch
Posted: 2/12/2009 8:57:54 AM
My first impression of the 2010 Winter Olympics Runners uniform and the Olympic torch is:

WTF?!?!?

The uniform... looks like they took an autobody man's painting overalls and splashed some green and blue paint on one shoulder. Where the CANADA aspect of it... the only red I've seen to date is the red gloves they were wearing to hold that 'thing'.

The torch... the thing looks like an underformed scoop ball catcher. Or it could be a futuristic tool they would use during a seal hunt.

Once again VANOC has taken something that could have made Canada proud and screwed it all up. Oh Canada *shakes head*

I've been on P.O.F for awhile now and I'm wondering when they are going to fix the issues with the postal codes. Right now if you post the some of the new postal codes for the Squamish area the server seems to think your a sub-division of some kind of Victoria. Not only that it puts Whistler no where near Squamish and its only a 45min drive away.

Victoria and Nanaimo are on an island almost 225KM/140 Miles away from Squamish and Whistler. If anything Squamish is considered to be part of West Vancouver and Lion's Bay.

Anybody know if this problem is being resolved?

N00bie question about MP3 players and docking stations
Posted: 2/11/2009 10:37:27 PM
This is a very debatable subject.

Users that have the Bose or Altec docking station have them because the docking station makes use of the outputs on the Ipod or MP3 Player. The docks allow use of 100% of the songs freqs and you get the full range effect. The 1/8 jack on your Ipod/Mp3 Player is good for sound but not great. You lose a lot of upper end and low bass end in the songs because most retail headphones can't reproduce them. The human ear can hear 20khz - 20hz, not that you would actually hear anything at 20hz. It would be like someone blowing in your face and a low rumble. Yes...a fart is very similar. Someone was looking over my shoulder when I wrote this.

If you want good sound quality for the MP3's you 'purchased' then I recommend a dock type set-up. But if you just want to plug in and crank the tunes, the system you have is more than enough.

For your info...on the side of the control center for the 5500 should be a small headphone jack. That is where you would plug your Ipod/Mp3 player into. You'll also need a 1/8 male to 1/8 male cord to plug between the two.

If you can't sign in to MSN Messenger, the connection settings in MSN Messenger might be preventing you from connecting to the Microsoft® .NET Passport or Microsoft® .NET Messenger Service. The MSN Messenger Connection Troubleshooter can often find and fix these problems. The Connection Troubleshooter starts automatically if MSN Messenger encounters a connection problem. If you choose not to use the Connection Troubleshooter, or it does not solve your connection problem, try the following:
1.Click the Tools menu, and then click Options.
2.In the left pane, click Connection.
3.Under Connection Settings, click Test Connection. If you agree to allow the Connection Troubleshooter to examine your system, it will test for connection problems and report steps you can take to correct them.
4.Optional: Perform advanced troubleshooting To troubleshoot your specific type of connection, click Advanced Settings. On the Advanced Connection Options dialog box, check that the settings for your particular connection type are correct. To test your connection, click the Test button. Click OK, and then click OK.
5.Click OK. When you choose these settings, MSN Messenger will use the Microsoft® Internet Explorer connection settings if possible.
6.Try signing in to MSN Messenger again.

Also do a virus scan and check for spyware..often they are the culprit.

Searching for a new laptop...need suggestions from all
Posted: 2/11/2009 7:00:16 PM
The answer really depends what your planning to do with the laptop.

I have a Windows PC, Windows Laptop, Apple iMac and a Apple Macbook.

Apple in general is good for media type work like video and picture editing, music creation. Doesn't mean a Windows laptop won;t do the same, but make is a little more stable for this. The great thing I like about Apple at this point beside the video/music aspect. Apple is not prone to virus infections and adware like a Windows PC. So worries about that are eliminated. the Macbooks with the Intel processors are dual operating systems capable. I can actually run Windows XP as just another program instead of booting into it.

A Windows laptop will be good for general use and office type work. There are many new laptops now that are gaming capable with huge amounts of ram and a high end video card. Windows laptops are generally easier to repair if needed and alot more user friendly than a Mac. A Windows laptop will also allow you to install a second operating system if so inclined fairly easy. I recommend if your going to do this to play around with some linux. I am not aware of a program that allows you to run a O/S as just a application on a Windows based laptop.

This sounds complicated I know, but it all boils down to budget. Apples can be pricey..but well worth it. Windows laptops are just as good.

Is the PS3 worth it?
Posted: 2/8/2009 10:36:28 AM
Only buy a PS3 if your looking for a full media console and gaming machine and blu-ray player.

There is so much potential to the PS3 systems that alot of posters haven't even touched on. I have an external 250GB harddrive hooked up to the PS3. This is loaded with pics and mp3's and other things. With the PS3 hooked up to my network...the PS3 acts like a Media Server.

Any Ps3 you buy with the 80GB or higher hard drive is backwards compatible with PS2 games. The Blu-ray player plays regular and even certain burned DVD's you make on your computer.

Sony has just released a 5.1 surround sound system that works in conjunction with the PS3. You take the HDMI output from the Ps3 and input into the receiver. A HDMI then goes to your Plasma/LCD and the audio signal is used for the speakers. I have seen the system in action..and its not bad for a out of the box $600 5.1 surround sound system. The model number is HTSF2300 in Canada.

It is possible to even load an O/S (operating system) onto the PS3. The only issue I can see finding all the proper drivers to ensure it runs right. I'd be worried about voiding the warrenty though doing something like this.

If your looking for just a blu-ray player. Buy a blu-ray player. If your looking for a fully function media system. Buy a Ps3

TURN IT DOWN!!
Posted: 2/8/2009 10:22:59 AM
Someone please tell me why in this day and age with all our 'advanced' technology, why are tv commercials so friggen loud!!!

There literally hundreds of programs online for computers that make all your songs the same volume so your not bashing your legs on the coffee table when running across the room when the song changes from Bach to Metallica. iTunes has the program built into it!

So someone please tell me why they cannot build this technology into today's tvs? Or force broadcasters to apply this technology to their signal??

It such a pain in the arse when your watching a nice movie and then the commercial break comes on and the thing is literally screaming at your because you had to turn it up to hear that movie.

Me, Myself, and I are entirely happy with our own company at the moment.
I don't feel the need to have a "partner" to complete me, and spending times with friends fulfills the need to be social.

Ditto Phuqd

When I find the right person...then maybe I'll move out of that phase..but for now I'm happy and that's all that matters in today's world.

Depends how you want to look at it.

Time wise. Its the end of the Mayan cyclical calendar system.

Christianity. The date is 4 days BEFORE the birth of Christ. You could interpret this as an advanced warning of the re-birth of Christ if you so choose. If I remember my bible studies right, Christ returns to take the innocence's to heaven to sit by fathers feet...or something like that. A lot can happen in 4 days.

It is very close to the winter solstice as well if I remember right. Maybe its a precursor to an Ice Age...the earth is going through a cooling stage. And don't give me the Global Warming bit...it's -40c or -40f depending how you look at it where I live, it snowed in Las Vegas and parts of California...whats so warm about that?? LOL

Maybe Atlantis will rise up and show the world the error of its ways and humanity will live once again in harmony with each other and the planet

Maybe the Mayans will come back looking for their calender and we will realize it was their daily organizer and they just missed a very important appointment with their dentist. Oh my..Mayan Halitosis...eww.

Maybe aliens will come down and suck all the intelligent life off the planet. No wait...that would be a wasted trip.

Maybe we should worry about the state of the world economy NOW...and leave the future where it belongs...in the future.

I make music with my armpits....I lack the talent others in this forum do have. I can say i'm jealous.

I have however been a club DJ for 14yrs and done many sound and light installations for clubs. Also done live sound for various rock bands.

For those of us DJ's that can't create the music you people are, thanks.

We'll keep spinning...you keep creating.

Anybody been canned yet?
Posted: 12/4/2008 9:42:18 PM
Yup...got canned. Forced out of a job because of dirty politics and backdoor deals.

I was working for a transportation company. But some dirty dealings went on and the company couldn't compete. So they laid off 200+ people and filed for bankruptcy protection. I feel sorry for those that had over 20 years in the company and are now getting nothing.

I wont name any names YVR AND VANOC.

These Olympics are killing off the small businesses. I hope those that voted for it are happy with themselves.

and no I ain't bitter...not in the least.

Anything by M.O.S (Ministry of Sound) is good for electronic music. If you want good bass kicking electronic, go buy the Daft Punk 'ALIVE' album. Saw the concert in the U.S and it kicked butt. Get the 'QLIMAX' dvds and watch a awesome concert and see various hardcore/rave DJ's do their thing.

There is all kinds of music out there.

BUT if your like me...you want the classics like:
Kraftwerk
New Order
Joy Division

New government already?
Posted: 11/30/2008 3:49:26 PM
So after reading what was said by all of you and agreeing with some on some points but generally I disagree with most points. The government is out of control and this insane spending by the parties and the MP's has to stop. Have any of you seen the amount of gifts and special treats they get?

How is a paid massage to an MP conducive to the financial running of a country? How is first class airline tickets setting an example of responsible budgeting when we heading into a recession?

Now a tape has surfaced of the Bloc and N.D.P discussing a vote of Non-confidence even before the budget was planned. What do some of you think of that? I'm interested.:

Is there a song that describes you?
Posted: 11/30/2008 3:37:08 PM
It not my time - 3 doors down

After all Ive been through in life. This song best sums up my life and my resolve that I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.

Looking back at the beginning of this
And how life was
Just you and me and love and all of our friends
Living life like an ocean
Now the current's slowly pulling me down
It's getting harder to breathe
It won't be too long and I'll be going under
Can you save me from this?

'Cause it's not my time,
I'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Oh, I won't go

I look ahead to all the plans that we made
And the dreams that we had
I'm in a world that tries to take 'em away
Oh, but I'm taking them back
'Cause all this time I've just been to blind to understand
What should matter to me
My friend, this life we live
Is not what we have, it's what we believe

And it's not my time
I'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But It's not my time
I'm not going
There's a will in me
And now I know that
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Oh, but I won't go
I won't go

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see

But it's not my time
I'm not going
There's a fear in me
It's not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
But it's not my time
I'm not going
There's a will in me
Now it's gonna show
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Ohoho

There might be more than you believe
(There might be more than you believe)
There might be more than you can see

I won't go
I know I won't go down
Yeah, yeah

Sea to Sky Toll Booth
Posted: 11/30/2008 3:32:08 PM
"Mike (and they're making a great road boring to drive)"

I agree...I dove bus up and down the highway for the last 3 yrs. Now its like driving the N0.1 going east, before it was like driving a winding italian road in a ferrari...no matter what car you were in.

The VANOC plan hasnt mentioned anything about the Sea to Sky that I am aware of. All that I've heard is they are planning to add more buses to the Vancouver area and shutdown streets during certain times. Which i'm 100% sure is going to piss off ALOT of people.

This is from a news article.
"City hall says it needs to reduce vehicle traffic by up to 35 per cent during the Games so that streets and bridges can accommodate VANOC's fleet of 2,300 cars, vans and SUVs and 1,000 motorcoaches plus TransLink buses.

A city map shows a network of lanes restricted to Olympic traffic, expanded rush hour parking bans and pedestrian and cycling routes.

Vancouverites got a sneak peek in September when city council OK'd $650,000 for 6,000 banners on 10 major streets, including the entire length of Granville, Robson from Broughton to B.C. Place Stadium and Hastings from Boundary to Burrard.

The provincial government quietly amended the Motor Vehicle Act in April to allow Olympic lanes.

The draft Vancouver map stops at bridges to the North Shore and Richmond.

The comprehensive VANOC transportation plan was originally expected by the end of 2007, but is a work in progress that won't be done until March 2009."

http://thetyee.ca/Blogs/TheHook/Olympics2010/2008/11/26/2010-transportationplan-consulting/

This confirms that as of Dec 1 2008 there is NO PLAN to stop traffic on the Sea to Sky during the Olympics.

Theres a reason we dubbed the new hwy 99.....The Whistler 500.

God in a word
Posted: 11/28/2008 12:17:41 AM
God in a Word = 'US'

It takes 2 to tango
3's Company
4's a crowd.

All religions have stories of groups over coming great odds. They all teach us to live in harmony of some kind within groups. They all have rules how to deal with others in groups. Yet most of us think, 'I am, I do, I think, I live' You didnt come into world alone, people have always in some form or another have helped you throughout life. It's always been US..but some where we got lost.

Who would you be without those around you?

But with all of US, we can achieve anything. We can change the world, we can feed the poor, we can cure disease, we can find peace.

It takes all of 'US' to do it.

Jaws and other behaviour-altering movies.
Posted: 11/28/2008 12:03:18 AM
Off the top of my head...

I've watched Jaws...no fear of water, Saw 1-4....I don't go around inventing devices to kill people, Clockwork Orange...I don't go around curb stomping people or raping women. Alice in Wonderland...I don't try and do drugs to go down a rabbit hole or bash things with flamingo's. This is NOT REALITY.

If KIDS are watching these movies, then the parent should be making attempts to explain the movie concepts and show the real reality of the story to the child. Knowledge takes away the fear after all. My favorite saying that my mother used to say to me, 'There isn't anything in the dark that wasn't already there in the light'

If you watch a movie and it alters your perceptions or creates fear. Maybe it might an underlying issue that the person themselves needs to deal with.

Or maybe you just shouldn't watch those kinds of movies. No one is tying you too a chair and duct taping your eyelids open.

Considering even now that with events transpiring with Vancouver City Counsel and the so-called private deal they were making for the 'on budget' Athletes Village, also let not forget the 'on-budget and 'on time' conference center down on the water front. We can only 'assume' the other projects pertaining to the Olympics are over budget as well.

The toll booth would assure that these project costs could be re-couped to some extent without raising the taxes for the locals in Vancouver and Squamish. I left Whistler out because most of us know its a very transient population.

If I have to pay a small fee to travel to either Whistler or Vancouver, I think I wouldn't mind too much. Especially when I know that a lot of more 'undesirable' drivers will steer clear of it. Plus many of our great visitors from the south travel the highway on a regular basis, they should be included in the cost recuperation as well. Nothing in life is free...no matter where your from.

So far from all the info I have from debates and little new blurbs I can catch. I think I might actually vote conservative.

It would be nice if all the parties has a properly laid out list of all things they are promising and plan to accomplish. Right now you have to spend 8 hours sifting through thier websites to gleam what they are offering.

I don't think the Liberals have what i takes this time. I was a true blue supporter..but I dont feel the party is coherent enough as it was before.

moving to BC!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted: 10/7/2008 1:10:26 PM
Well being from MB myself and moving here 8 yrs ago. I have a few words of advice.

1. Invest in gortex and umbrellas.
2. If you got a big SUV or TRUCK...ditch it. The price of gas out here is the highest in the country beside the NWT.
3. Be friendly. I know from living in MB you tend to walk around and do your own thing, BC is not like that. You treat each person as a neighbor or friend..yes even the strangers.
4. Learn to budget. The prices for thing in certain areas can be high.

As for looking for a cheap place. I can almost guarentee you will NOT find a house for $150,000. You might find trailers and such for that price but they are pretty rare. In the lower mainland...its almost unheard of.

The further north you live from Vancouver generally the cheaper it gets.

And lastly...get used to GREY. It does not rain all the time like people say...but it can be pretty grey for weeks on end.

Good luck on the move.

I understand that it is the only road out of Squamish... but isn't it their CHOICE to live their and work elsewhere?

I don't live in Vancouver, yet I have to pay taxes to build your bridges and fix your roads, It was YOUR choice to live in the city and work there. So why am I paying fo your roads? Your infastructure? Your schools?

Thats the mentality I find of SOME..not all. They get all happy and cozy in the city and forget there is the rest of the province that need roads and thier infastructure maintained or even upgraded.

And yes I CHOOSE to live in Squamish becuase it does not cost me a gazillion dollars to rent/buy a house. I CHOOSE to live here becuase I have access 24/7 to the outdoors without having to drive through city traffic to do the same. I CHOOSE to live here becuase I can get to know my neighbors and not worry about drive bys and drug grow ops next door.

Before you start pointing fingers and judging those of us living else where in the province. Better take a look at the problems at your own front door.
