Pssst! Wanna have a card shower??
Posted: 11/29/2007 7:20:35 PM
Thanks so much to those who are willing to send a card... I know he will be thrilled when he gets them...

...and please, so there is no misunderstanding...DO NOT SEND MONEY! He has enough, he had no money ON HIM when he went missing because he didn't take his wallet, that was also where his ID was...

Asperger's Syndrome impairs social skills, and in his case, it is pretty signifigant. He could be friendly if he met someone through me, but to make friends and stuff... it isn't possible for him to just start talking. It seems hard to understand when one does not have that impairment themselves; I didn't understnad it either at first.

The card shower helps to cheer him up, and also re-inforces the bigger idea --- the world is a bigger place than it seems right now, and there is good in the world.

I don't know how many of you saw the news this week...

about the 17 year old young man who was missing from the Beausejour area...no money, no mitts or toque, no identification on him...the windchill that day was around -24 to -26, and it was like a mini blizzard around Beausejour/Hazelridge?Lac Du Bonnet...

It was a HORRIBLE heartbreaking time - the whole 28 or so hours he was missing... for all who know him...

That was my son who was missing.
The "autistic, depressed, 17-year-old boy" descibed on the news.

He was located, thankfully, and is now in hospital in Winnipeg. He IS depressed. And as a parent, when you have a child who is suffering or in pain, you will do anything you can to help them...so I am starting this thread. He has Asperger's Syndrome, actually, an Autism Spectrum Disorder, to go along with his depression, because some of us wil have two crosses to bear in this lifetime.

My son, Danny, loves to get greeting cards. Any kind of cards, actually...and he loves the funky, weird blank ones... like the one that had a happy face on it, without a smile...and it said "Have a _________ day!"

If anyone would be so kind as to oblige my request, please email me for the addy.

Thanks!!

Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP)

The average MEP worker has 600 files at any given time. I think they do thier best to enforce payments when they can.

Maintenance Enforcement Program (MEP)
Posted: 10/7/2007 9:29:04 AM

I was late on one payment... by a day. I was rewarded with divorce papers, and threats of MEP action.

After ONE payment was late??

I have been to hell and back with an ex who once told me:
"It will be a cold day in hell before I give you one red cent."

I told him to put on a scarf because it was starting to snow.

The same ex also owed money to another ex (who I didn't know about) and quit jobs to get out of paying, went to jail instead of paying me, lost his licence and was in Master's court several times. There was no action after one missed payment.

When he was doing ^^^^ all that, he was working a 40 grand a year job, and ordered to pay 306 a month for one kid. The judge dropped it to a hundred bucks a month after 2 and a half years.

He didn't pay that either.

MEP can help you in either situation...I pay and receive, so I have seen it from both sides. If some parent does not want to pay for thier kids, MEP can't force them if they can't find them. However, the skip tracer is very good!!!

YMMV

Puppy Mills and how to spot them ~ Help!
Posted: 8/12/2007 4:39:41 AM
... Well... sad news to report. My little "puppy girl" Baillie Grace, passed away on Wednesday night at 5:20 pm. She was curled up against my big Basset ~ no relation~ and went to sleep after playing with me and the kids, and the hubby. She snuggled up against "Mamma" ~ my adult hound~ and went to sleep. She passed shortly thereafter. She was 11 weeks old.

I got some great tips off here...and I will bear them in mind, if I ever decide to try again.
My heart is just broken right now...first my 8 month old purebred Basset pup Roscoe was stolen from my yard in June,($2,500 dollar reward...email me for details...) and now this...

I had taken her to the vet straight away when I got her, and she had a clean bill of health, mostly...she had ear mites, and needed a vaccination. No biggie...all was well. I took her (well my husband did) to the vet after she passed, and the vet said she doesn't know why she died because she appeared healthy on exam.

I never understood the attachment ppl had to thier pets untill I had my "babies"...NOW, I so totally get it...some nights during rainstorms, I can't sleep because I am worried Roscoe is in a ditch somewhere cold and hungry, scared and wet.

To everyone who gave me advice and emails, thanks.

I wish I had a better ending to tell y'all.

What made you happy today?
Posted: 6/10/2007 1:12:14 PM
Was in church bright and early this morning (845 AM!!) and my beautiful daughter who is 7, was between me and my hubby to be. The choir started singing a hymn, and my daughter, (who has never been in a Catholic church as far as I know - we used to attend a Pentecostal one) leans over and whispers:
"Mom, I know this song. It sounds so familiar."
And it is an OLD Catholic hymn, like REALLLY old, so I smiled and said:
" Oh, really? Where did you hear it?", thinking my mom maybe had taken her to a Mass before...
and she gets the "thinking look" and says....
"Oh! I remember now! I heard it when I was still an angel in heaven. That's where I know it from. We sang it all the time."
Then she smiled that big, teethy smile up at me, and squeezed my hand a little tighter....and it just made my day!!! Got all teary eyed in church....

How much stock do you put the in website called RateMDs.com
Posted: 5/28/2007 5:30:39 PM
I am familiar with Dr. Harris, and yes, I do believe she is an oncologist. SHe is probably being very cautious, while low iron and low white blood cell counts are part of being anemic, they can also indicate (with other factors) hodgkins lymphoma and leukemia,a mong other things. If no one told you you needed to be tested for cancer, I wouldn't get too excited yet. I think most doctors tell you if they are concerned about that. LAst winter, I had a doctor tell me he was afraid I had a brain tumor, so he wanted to do tests to rule it out...to each thier own, I guess. No brain tumor, thankfully.

Personally, I enjoy RateMD's. com. I have rated everyone from my GP to my dentist to my kids orthodontist -- Dr. Rykiss rocks!!! I find it to be pretty accurate, but I like to form my own opinions anyway--my hubby to be had to see a specialist at Manitoba Clinic, and half the opinions were QUITE negative, and some were positive. I was leery of him going. He went and said she was fabulous to him, but we both like different things in a doctor, and can disagree about "firm and business like" and "downright rude and crabby."

I am sorry about the aspiration - I know they hurt!! Take care, rest up and keep surfing!

Candace Derksen's Killer Caught Today - 23 Years Later ...
Posted: 5/16/2007 3:12:50 PM
OMG!!!!
I was the same age when she went missing, and my parents started following me around and coming with me EVERYWHERE when I went to Roxy lanes for bowling after that...I got shivers and chills reading that... pRaise be to God!!! Thank God someone is going to be held accountable for this, also for the efforts of the police who have tirelessly worked on this, to everyone who had a hand in making this come to fruition...Peace be with Candace, Wilma and Cliff Derksen today....

What a sick freak who did this! He left her frozen in a shack owned by Alsip's under the Nairn bridge...

Is great to see justice coming up...

What is the dumbest thing that someone stole from you?
Posted: 5/11/2007 11:14:19 PM
Years ago I lived in a complex. I had a load of clothes --like regular, single-mom-of-two-who-spit-and-shit all day clothes, in the dryer. It was a locked laundry room, and I went to get the load of clothes. They were gone, and all that was left was a VERY dirty pair of mismatched socks. I left a note and stuck it to the wall that said "if you need to steal my used underwear and ratty clothes, you need them more than I do." LOL

I thought that was bad enough. My mom was living in a rough area and in an apartment block several years ago. One day, she went to get her clothes out of the laundry room, and the whole DRYER was missing!!!

Your screen name
Posted: 5/6/2007 11:49:37 AM
^^^ awww... I love my freckles. Especially in the summer I am a pale freckled big kid!!

My screen name is the abbreviated form of mine (Velvet_Dreamer) and my hunneys (Smileing_Eyes) I thought I would want to leave the site when:

a) I had a serious relationship
b) I got engaged
c) I got married

Damn site is addictive!!! The wedding is in 8 weeks and I still can't leave!!

I used the name Velvet_Dreamer because I like velvet, and I thought it it sounded nice...velvet dreams to me mean nice and pleasnt dreams with a hint of wealth and opulence..lol! Hunny used his because smiling eyes was already taken...so he added an 'e' to smiling and viola!

The history of some of the nicks is amusing and not something I thought of for sure...

Does your Sweety's politics really matter?
Posted: 5/3/2007 5:33:12 PM
Sweety's politics don't matter to me as long as he VOTES for who I tell him to. LOL!
Seriously, my hubby to be doesn't follow politics, but I do. I am voraciously following politics and have for a long time. I don't let it get in the way of my friendships with anyone though. I think that this, and religion/theology/spirituality are best left undiscussed because it can get heated. I love the fact that I live in a time and place where I can have my beliefs, be diffrent than others, and not get put to death. I appreciate other's viewpoints, and I am open to hearing them and that, I just don't want it shoved down my throat.

Need some allergy advice
Posted: 5/2/2007 10:15:28 AM
I take a med called hydroxizine. It is a prescription med, but it is onlt about 11 or 12 bucks... it is a good little pill, makes the allergies better... I have high blood pressure so I can't take almost any of the over the counter meds, but this one works for me...If I don't have any, I have used Claritin with fairly good success. My son, who also has many allergies, swears by the wal-mart brand of allergy pills with acetaminophen. I didn't find them that great, but he says they work for him.

skin conditions and dating
Posted: 5/1/2007 1:17:39 PM
Okay, I'm not a guy, but I just wanted to let you know...

I think if a guy likes you, he will be into you for you, and the psoriasis won't matter. I had a friend who had bad excema, and she used to swelter in the summer because she didn't want to wear tanks or short sleeves.

If a guy can't get past the fact of a skin condition, he IS SO NOT worth your time!!!
A cool guy will appreciate that it can be painful, and will help you deal - maybe even rub lotions and creams all over your body... hmmm that reminds me..........

I hope you find what you are looking for...

Home Schooling pros & cons
Posted: 5/1/2007 10:51:06 AM
Wow, spunky, that's a huge commitment you will be making to your child. I think more short list of pros and cons is this:
Pros:
- very intensive one on one time with the child
- the child can learn at his own pace
- the negative aspects of bullying and like related things are eliminated
- fosters a stronger parent child bond

Cons:
- limited socialization with peers
- very time intensive for parent
- no exposure to character building activities like extra curricular
- scheduling can be difficult

I think it is a way awesome idea and kudos to you for considering it. I know that I am far too inconsistent as far as availability to home school my kids, although after my son got shot with a pellet gun in Winnipeg last week, I am considering a move for him from Winnipeg to rural.

Keep us posted spunky!

ps, what's a pector, anyway? lol

Whats the worst job you've had?
Posted: 4/26/2007 3:19:39 PM
Oh totally, midnights in a donut place on Nairn. Love doughnuts (ummm you can see that by looking at me!) and love working, just not together. I was losing doughnuts in the glaze, spilling sparklies all over the damn place, forgot to make soup half the time, had leacherous old men leering at me all the time... (I was 17) UGH! I still cringe!!

Who Remembers Saints Regent
Posted: 4/13/2007 12:40:15 PM
How about Ponderosa...across from the Bonanza...? All you can eat shrimp in the little plastic baskets...When I was a kid, I ate the whole shrimp, tail and all... and asked my dad when he came back from the washroom.. "Dad... Why are these so crunchy?"

I had my 10th bitrhday party at Saints.. and sprained both my wrists when me and my friend were doing the jumpy spin thing to "Mony Mony" or "Mickey" (Oh Mickey, you're so fine you blow my mind, hey Mickey...ya'll remeber that one? ;p) and she let go... I fell backwards and broke my fall by landing on my hands.. Sh*t I can still feel that today..lol
And the snowball dances ...Everytime I hear the word "snowball" , I think of that song "When I'm with you" and "Babe"... lord, It's nice to go back sometimes...*half smiles*

after Saints.. it became Flipside didn't it? That's when i did all the liquor sneakin in...lol

Anna Nicole Smith Dead
Posted: 4/10/2007 2:50:07 PM
I am very happy that Larry was found to be the father. Howard K Stern just creeps me out.
I think that he was, and is, interested in raising the little girl because he loves her, not because she may, or may not, inherit an inheritance from the Marshall family. I find it refreshing that he seeks NOT have anonymous supporters send hiom money in aid of his fight for his child.

www.larrybirkhead.net

Anna Nicole Smith did not have half a billion dollars in the bank. When she went to the Supreme Court, it was to get a decision whether or not she could continue to fight Marshall's son, Pierce, for what she thought was hers --the money alledgely promised to her by her husband when she was still married to him. That man (Marshall) was cloaked in lawyers and legal protection for his assets, I am sure if something was left ambiguous, he understood Anna would have a claim to it.

ANOTHER POF WEDDING SOCIAL!! POF ROCKS
Posted: 2/26/2007 10:20:56 PM
It's almost here, it's almost here!

I must say... although I pulled back from the boards (posting anyway, oh and well, looking, too--obviously...lol) after my relationship began, I thought I had a few friends on here. And yes, as simply single pointed out, I am so far in the country, we only have dial up.. and even that doesn't always work... so that's why I wasn't coming around as much.

I am surprised by the lack of sign up...and it kinda does hurt my feelings, because I would have gladly attended a social for a fellow POF'er, even if they had pulled back for reasons I did. There is a whole whack of ppl on here I would have got in my car and gone to meet them for coffee if they called in the middle of the night...and I stayed in touch with a few people, but with moving, and life creepin' up on ya, sometimes it's harder to reach out than it should be. There are so many I was hoping to see at the social.

Please, don't misinterpret what I mean here. I would be thrilled to see POF'ers there, and to the ppl who have contacted me, GREAT! and I am looking forward to seeing you all...but I am totally confused as to why there was almost a neglible response...the only thing I think I did was find a mate and want my share my happiness...oh, and have a rockin' party!!!

All who want to come... more than welcome, bring any and everyone you want...our silent auction prizes are great... and you never know, you may meet some closet POF members...lol. Or you may meet your own Mr. right.

Be well~

Capita Punishment........Should it be brought back???
Posted: 2/12/2007 11:49:57 AM
Two words... Robert Picton. the pig farmer from BC.. he said he wanted to go for an even 75 women he killed, women who were "less than" because they were, or he thought they were, sex trade workers. They very well may have been, but they were still someone's mother, a daughter, a sister... and he thought nothing of turning a human being into pig feed.

Karla Homolka. This ....... ugh I can't even find a word in the english language bad enough for this liar, (for one--she was left alone with Kristen French with a rubber mallet---she stayed at the house, "guarding" kristen, and Kristen's body had impact wounds and bruises from... you guessed it.. a rubber mallet. If she was in fear of Paul the Lunatic, why didn't she take Kristen and run?? She beat her when she tried to escape.) Now this psychopathic monster has remarried and given birth to a son...what kind of monster will she raise, if this poor child lives to be an adult? She should have been put down like a rabid dog.

Clifford Olsen, the child killer.

I think these are all fine examples of why we should bring back the death penalty. There is no doubt of guilt, and the crimes were heinous.

How much drinking is to much?
Posted: 2/11/2007 8:00:54 PM
well, I would say..

"you know, you're kinda rude and obnoxious and stuff when you are drunk."

Just spell it out, so there are no misconceptions about what you meant. That's just me, though, and I don't have problem telling people they are obnoxious if they are drunk.

Chances are, unless we are talking about someone much younger, say 19 or 20, chances are they have heard it before.

What is drinking to much? What equals social drinking? How do you gage if someone you are dating drinks to much?

It is my belief that medically and socially, the opinions on the above questions vary; however, if someone's drinking is making you uncomfy, or you feel embarrassed when you go out somewhere, or you start thinking, "please don't get so drunk tonight like last time..." there's a problem. I think by virtue of the question there is something telling you something is not right here, if it's yourself you mean, or someone close to you.

I don't know if it makes a difference if the person is a happy drunk or a bad one...drunk ppl are unpredictable, and although fun and happy drunks are okay to be around at parties and the like, do you really want to become a caretaker for an alcoholic?

In the end, though, it is up to you to decide if this issue is a deal breaker. For me, I could not even consider dating a man who smoked weed. I understand it is a choice and I am fine with ppl smoking it, just not in my life in that way. Don't get wrong, a lot of my friends smoke it...It's just not something I want around me.. I'm messed up enough already when I am sober...lol!

Good luck and I wish you clarity and peace of mind.
