My best sex was with my former wife--for over two decades. What made her impossibe was her compulsive-obsessive disorder. And, yes, that did play into our lovemaking. OC was hell on me. I have had a friend who might be bi-polar. We were never intimate, but her condition made it difficult to maintain friendship. My most recent friend is probably a boderline personality (in burnout) and that acessement was from my physician. Her condition made it impossible to consider going forward though I adore her. The OC of my former wife was the worst simply because she was my lover.

My former wife and I had large libraries on romantic love. She had her library and I had mine, which, I suppose, was an indication of some differences. She had books with titles such Steven Carter and Julia Sokol’s "Men Who "Can't Love" and I had books such as those by Ethel Person’s “Dreams of Love and Fateful Encounters: The Power of Romantic Passion” and Stephanie Covington’s “Leaving the Enchanted Forest”. I read Irving Singer’s volumes in “The Nature of Love”. Linda read Thomas Patrick Malone and Patrick Thomas Malone’s “The Art of Intimacy” along with books on Wilhelm Reich and books by therapists influenced by his work. The topics overlapped, but I suppose tones differed. If reading could have saved us, we would have made it, but reading did not save our relationship. Being good lovers is not necessarily a foundation for a successful marriage. I never intended to be celibate after divorce. I am not certain why that happened. I think casual sexual relations was not what I wanted. However, I just never found a relationship to replace the one lost and that probably has, in part, do do with my realization that I might not be a good companion for someone. It has to do with honesty--maybe. Sex is easy to understand. Romantic love remains a mystery to me.

I dated a woman from another state for several years--we used to fly to see each other. We never had intercourse, but we did make out. She is a conservative Christian who would not have intercourse outside marriage. I very much enjoyed her. There are many aspects of life to enjoy with someone other than making love. What is still odd to me is that women used to come on to me during my marriage but no one really has since my divorce. Of course, I physically changed during the interval of separation and divorce. Sexualty is a mystery to me in old age as it was during the rest of life. Not a bad mystery but a mystery--just like the rest of life.

I don't miss sex so much as intimacy. I had a good sexual life with my former wife--in fact, I think it was splendid. That part of our relationship worked--at least until I took medication. As I said, I miss physical initmacy, touching, aromas, and just being with a lover. I am 66 now and I think that I could live the rest of my life celibate though I hope not--at least, sometimes. However, I did have a great sex life for a long time. I treasured it. Thanks for the posts.

I had a beard (wore a beard) from sometime in 1978 until after 2000. The beard was fine when I was young. It was not fine when I grew old. It was red when I was young. I shaded my features. I kept it fairly short. As I aged, it turned white. I made my then full face look even fuller. Just did not work.

I have dated and enjoyed the relationships that came from that but, with maybe one or two exceptions, no one has invited me to form a deeper bond. Oddly, that happened too often when I was married. I was not about to do anything that would have hurt my wife. I suppose I need to learn more about myself. Who knows?

This is the worst time in my life--mainly because of financial woes. I have been alone since I was 49-years-old. I think that I no longer have much about me that women find attractive. Sounds like Louisiana after hurricanes. Time just stops without electric power (not only because I have an electric clock). Food does not last. Bath water is cold even in the hot weather. I did but accidentally. I called about my friend and ended up having dinner with her sister--the one I called. We hugged and shared a good night kiss. I had never touched the friend but she was one of my best friends for decades. After that date, my friend stopped contacting me. I miss my friend. But we had grown apart. She is doing well and I admire her.
