IM was a big plus
Posted: 4/26/2009 12:48:46 AM
Looking through the 13 pages that have arisen on this topic since my last post...I would say that we have a somewhat fair sampling of users, both young and old, male and female, and all that, that we can form a general opinion of the feelings on this site. Am I saying this is 100% accurate? Not in the least. However, since Admin and the so called "Mods" who seem to be completely in his ass about defending his stance, won't do a poll on the site main page or something to see how users feel about this, etc., I am just going to go go with what I have noticed.

In approximately 450+ posts, more people have been requesting the IM feature back than not. Of those people, most that were naysayers of the IM's return were women, and apparently women who were too lazy to either turn their IM feature off completely, or were too dumb to click NO when the IM request comes up. When you click YES, you run the risk of getting a Phallus in your face, yes, but you also get the chance, however slight, of meeting someone special, and not having to spend all night emailing back and forth to get to know one another, but rather spending a couple of minutes, or hours for that matter, chatting about everything in real time, and having fun.

If you were incapable of learning how to turn IMs off, or were just in general too lazy to click NO or shut it off, then you have no right to complain. If I am just not in the mood to chat with someone on my Y!Messenger, or MSN, I go invisible. the same can be done with an extra 45+ seconds on the site for the evening, or whatever, and yet you still complain, while not taking that extra step.

As for those that say we should be thankful, I agree. For a fairly long period of time, POF has been offering a great service to lonely people in the world, and as a "FREE" site, was able to get much more traffic. My caviat on that is this: Should Markus not be thankful to us as users for making him the millions upon millions of dollars for our "eyes on page"? Users make or break a website, and by turning your back on the users, and calling them "idiots"(his words, not ours) and not letting them know whats going on, false advertising(100% free site my a$$) etc., you show that you are not only ungrateful to those that made you your money, but that you consider yourself better than them. Granted, you may be able to code a webpage better than myself or some others, but I guarantee there are men and women on here who could frame a house better, or wire an office building, or shoot an enemy at a farther distance(god bless the armed services), etc. So acting like you are a god among men is total BS, and off putting.

If anyone that is reading this forum would like to know of a great site that has an integrated IM that used to use UserPlane, and is 100% free, PM me and I will be most happy to oblige. Thanks for your time, and those of you who "hated" the IM services, I look forward to reading all your flames on my post.

Why does everyone have their IM turned off?
Posted: 4/16/2009 4:40:05 PM

why dont POF tell us why the IM dont work--they just discontinue it and never say why

If you read the posts on the pages prior to this, you will see that the Admin, Markus, is trying to tell everyone that the issue is with the company who owns the IM program. However, we that have done a little research, or in Utah's case have intimate knowledge with the program, know that this isn't the case. Take that as you will.

My Thoughts

Ok...so...let me get this straight. First off...it was disabled because Markus said it was being "discontinued", which has been proven false if you just walk your little mouse over to www.userplane.com and check it out

Clearly you can't read he said he was told it would be discontined around june 15. Is english you 2nd language?

Clearly you can't read the other posts I based my proof off of, since A) another poster who uses UserPlane on their website was concerned and contacted the company to make sure they weren't losing their service, and B)I also wrote an email to userplane asking why they were discontinuing. It's an ad-space thing people. if Markus removes those retarded 3rd grade Track & Field participation buttons from people's profiles, and allows AOL and userplane to have their ad-space back, instead of change mongering his users, his bottom line may suffer slightly, but in the end, he would still be making money. If you must have the little "Gold Star" by your name, for achievement, then maybe it could go elsewhere, like in the bottom corner of your picture next to the POF caption that gets placed on each photo.

As far as the woman who is making comments about "FREEDOM IM'S, FREEDOM TOAST, FREEDOM FRIES, etc..." I am a member of the Armed Forces, and honestly I find that post somewhat insulting. Now all of a sudden you take this from an issue of this site becoming less appealing because of false advertising, and turn it into something about Patriotism? Who the **** are you to speak of things like that? If you are from America, have you served your country? Because if not, you have no right to speak about Patriotism like that...Oh wait, yeah, you do, because I fight for your right to have those freedoms. Please use discretion and don't insult myself or my brothers & sisters in arms anymore. Thanks. OH...yea....and...YOU'RE WELCOME.

Ok...so...let me get this straight. First off...it was disabled because Markus said it was being "discontinued", which has been proven false if you just walk your little mouse over to www.userplane.com and check it out. A previous post said that AOL probably discontinued it's work with POF because of the Serious Member Icon, which results in less revenue, because the ads that used to be there were removed. Most likely, this is exactly the case. However, I am not going to jump to conclusions. I most definitely miss the IM feature, as it uses far less of my time to speak to the same person and see if we hit it off, etc. However, if the IM does remain off, I don't think that I will be actually leaving, just not using my profile anywhere near as much, and will be utilizing other tools.

Oh, and COWBOY, you are completely wrong. there is definitely another site I can name by name that utilizes a VERY good IM service, however there are different people on every site. the site reminds me of a my,space-esque type design, and has the same abbreviation as Oklahoma City, so just google OKC + dating if you wanna see what I am talking about. OH, and yes, it is completely free as well.

Markus, as for your 10% more activity...of course you are going to have more activity when people have to keep emailing back and forth rather than IM'ing quickly. That's just math. People are going to be online more and etc. if they can't do things quickly. By removing that key feature of IM'ing, you have doomed your site to become another fly by night dating website. You may have increased traffic now, but soon that traffic will go down because people won't want to use your services as much, because you took away one fairly UNIQUE feature to the website. I for one won't be using it as often. Hope you make the right choice, do away with the giant SERIOUS MEMBER logo, and allow AOL to have their ad-space again so that they can renew their contract with you.

Thanks for reading everyone! Good Hunting!
