The term BBW
Posted: 11/25/2009 10:53:39 AM
I am not a fat chic, but I agree. An ace is an ace and a spade is a spade. In journalism class I was taught to write obituaries using the term "died". Not "passed", "shuffled off their mortal coil" "went to a better place" "kicked off", or any other euphamism. If you are fat, you are fat. Trying to dress the concept with gilt edged robes doesn't do a damn thing but make you appear like you are in denial or something.

Of course, but what I am saying is you can either take pride in your work, or not. The above statement leads me to believe that you only care whether you are tipped or not.

When I started, I indeed did take pride in my work. I never ran my piece through someone's burger either, lol. However, as I worked longer and longer in the service industry, I saw customers refusing to take pride in the work they were presented with. Since the customer is always right, I agreed with 'em in the end. No, I never ran my piece through a burger even then. I did other things, things that couldn't get me fired or sued, lol. Things that took LESS work rather than MORE work. I think I came out about even with the wayward customer, and I only jacked the wayward ones. Was not indescriminate at all. Those who took pride in what I did for them, I did my job with pride for. Those who did not, I did not.

Remember, it's the little things that make or break an experience. I controlled the little things.

I didn't always look for a tip either. A positive attitude was enough to make me feel like the customer was proud of what they purchased, and I made sure they had reason to be. Mainly, I messed with the jackasses who make a big show of not tipping, or rummage through the whole bag and take up 5 minutes at the counter while others wait, or run you back and forth for ramekins of various condiments, etc.

"You don't belive in paying for things? Then don't go out to eat. Problem solved. No annoying customer, no junk in food. Everyone is happy. "
_______________________________________________________
Technically, the amount of payment due is between diner and the restaurant, not the diner, the waiter and the restaurant. So, technically, if the guy pays the bill, he HAS paid for his food.

Well, since we are going off of technicalities, he can't technically prove someone ran their piece all over the inside of his hoagie.

I have rarely found bad service and always tip 15% for bad service and 20% for good. I have paid a 15% tip only a couple times.

Look how you tip. Apparently you understand the way things should be done and are doing them. Why do you do this? Do you like spending more money than you think you have to? No. You do it because you have an understanding of what is right and what is wrong. Good on you!

But the truth is ~ "most" people agree that some kind of reform is needed, but to it say most people don't approve of HR 3200, is an embellishment ~ I don't think anyone really knows these numbers, if they did ~ we wouldn't be discussing them so much.

I don't think you can show me one poll that shows people favoring it. I can show you plenty that show people not favoring it. The largest poll I have seen so far was around 100K respondants, via facebook (not the greatest I know, but it was the largest) and it was VERY unpopular. All the other polls I have seen also show HR3200 in an unfavorable light. I think it is quite fair to agree that a majority of this country does NOT want HR3200 at this time.

^^^^i agree. it takes a low class idiot to tamper with someone's food when they are MORALLY entrusted to be sanitary with it.

then there are morally bankrupt people. at least i tip something even though i don't believe in the system.

Saying "I tip something" when we know from your previous post that it's 5-10% is pretty weak. You are MORALLY entrusted with paying for servie you receive, yet you flaunt that you rip the waiter off on multiple visits to a resturant. You don't think they laugh about the stuff they do to your food? In all likelyhood, you probably aren't always the only one with a smug look on your face as you walk out of the joint.

Not true. When I was in undergrad, I worked my way through college working waitstaff at country clubs and resturants on high end golf courses. We used to screw with peoples' food all the time. We were spoiled and came from weathy families so we didn't care if we got fired. Also, the gratutity was already included in the check, so you had to tip whether you wanted too or not.

You worked at an area that was on the opposite end of the spectrum. I never worked with rich douche bags, but I do know the type. I can see what you describe occuring.

Maybe the world has changed a lot? From the time I was 17 until about 24, I worked in restaurants on and off quite a lot. I never saw or heard of anyone doing anything to a patron's food. Some of these posts suggest it is the norm to do disgusting things to a restaurant patron's food. I am very sceptical. But, maybe things have just changed that much. Sad.

Where I worked, I never saw or heard of anything more than vizine in a drink. However, other places around town I have heard about from their employees, well, I won't eat there unless someone I know is waiting on my table, lol.

It also depends on where you live. I have eaten at various places in various locations and it seems that my area is pretty bad with regards to the class of people who live here. In places where the welfare crowd isn't so prevalent, there is probably less angst among the employees and a lot less likelyhood of food sabotage. Also, depends even on what resturant you work at. Some places attract welfare kinda people, and some dont.

Take back control of our taxes
Posted: 11/24/2009 1:42:03 PM
That point is debatable.

Safety devices give people a great feeling of safety thus cause unsafe driving behaviours.

Also who's lives are you saving, for the most part the ones that can not drive.

I understand what you are saying, but this doesn't make a lot of sense. Those idiots who can't drive hit people who can. You are saving both of them (hopefully).

I have been in 2 wrecks where I can say the seatbelt minimized my injury. (Both were the other person's fault and judged as unpreventable on my part, for anyone who cares).

As to the "safety devices encourage unsafe behavior" sentiment. Perhapse it is true to a point, but that doesn't mean they aren't good. That mentality would get rid of condoms, safetys on firearms, seatbelts, lots of good things.

The purpose of law is to protect individuals from another infringing on their human rights. Not to take away human rights

You do not have rights, you have privileges and your government can choose to take those away at any time.

Some things are rights, some privelidges. Depends on how it is worded in legal documentation, however, the goverment is empowered by the people, not the other way around--or it should be. Now after things like the patriot act and other legislature, that is becoming debatable as more and more power is being given to the government. The people are growing weaker, and the government stronger. This is a natural progression for a republic. Eventually, it becomes a democracy and then an autocracy. It is the political stages of a nation's death and can be observed over and over throughout history and in action currently.

cops are underpaid i think. they take alot of guff, especially when they have to arrest a minority in the ghetto. the ghetto dwellers invariably surround the cop and try to obstruct or help the perp.
i don't have that patience.

In NYC they make 6 figures very shortly after graduation from the academy and even in my small-ish metropolitan area the Sherrif's start at $25/hr and State Troopers start at $35/hr.

Why? Are these things team oriented or something? Enjoying company is nice, but this sounds almost like co-dependancy.

What you can tell by their eye color
Posted: 11/23/2009 9:59:21 AM

Blue Eyes
People with blue eyes last the longest in relationships. They are kind, pretty or handsome, very good kissers and are really hot. They always fall in love with their closest friends and never understand why. They are very funny, outgoing and don't care what people think or say. They love to party. They are very satisfying and love to please. Are straight up WARRIORS when they need to be. They are bad to the bone.

My longest relationship was about a year.
I am of average appearance.
Kissing, well, most girls say I am good at it, but sometimes I disagree with the assessment.
I only dated one person who was a friend first.
I hate parties and don't like to go out.
I do love to please.
I do have a warrior mentality and used to fight full contact, etc. etc.
I don't consider myself "bad" or try to portray a "badboy" image.

I think this eye-color personality predictor is full of fail.

I try to avoid nurses. I go to school with them and spend time at the hospital around them and dated one once. Never again. I would not date within my own profession again, not for professional reasons, but I just don't want the type of girl who sits at the nurses station bashing on men all day. Not my thing. I don't even want a girl who LISTENS to that all day. Every nurse's station I have been at, that seems to be a topic I overhear. To be honest, of the strippers I know, I look up to them more and would be more inclined to date one of them.

Haha, I can only IMAGINE the stuff you have put in your mouth while smirking about how you always rip the resturant off and yet they treat you so well. I am sure they are SERVING you some wonderful things.

However, other than vizine in a drink, I never saw anything go down at my resturant. Other places around town are known for their various methods, from wanking it in the sauce, to other things. Normally when we got a freeloader like you we just gave crap service, they never came back, we were better off for it. We would do little stuff to piss your kind off. Make sure the glass set empty, eat a piece of food off ur plate before we brought it out, that kind of thing. Just undermine your whole visit. Of course, if it was your first time polluting our resturant, we werent wise to your ways yet, so you prolly get good service the first go around unless you express your attitude to the staff.

I'm curious about the notion of 'not all restaurants are created equal'.

Well, lots of trashy people eat at Chili's. Brinker also owns Macaroni Grill. Trashy people don't go there so much. The tips are better, the customers aren't trashy nearly as often or as bad, and the wait-staff is happier. Not all resturants are equal. Any resturant that attracts the welfare crowd (usually b/c that resturant has a reputation for comping stuff at the first sign of discontent) is a pain to work at.

By trashy I mean lower income people who don't like paying for things while exploiting waitstaff, running them, and trying to sabotage the dining experience in hopes of being comped.

I'd agree with a price increase to accomodate the wage for waiters/waitresses. Where did you get the 20-25% figure from. You are currently taxed on 15% of the total bill. You're being just as greedy as the person who doesn't leave you a tip.

Which is worse? I see no difference.

No, not really. I normally tip 20-30% when I go out if service is good. 15% is the MINIMUM that one should leave behind to make sure that the waiter is duly compensated. However, people would stop leaving tips at all a lot of the time even when the service was exceptional if gratuity is included in the menu pricing. Thus, I think 20-25% would give waiters/waitresses the amount of money they currently recieve. We don't want to cut the nose off to spite the face here.

ummm, the link you posted has nothing to say about the "$100 million bribe". care to document that? or did it just sound really cool?

My state, to influence our senator to vote, was given $100 million to help their govt. funded healthcare that is currently in the toilet. That pushed our senator over the edge and she voted for the bill. Now go look in the dictionary, where you can find that one of the definitions of a bribe is:

bribe /bra?b/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [brahyb] Show IPA noun, verb, bribed, bribĀ·ing.

2. anything given or serving to persuade or induce: The children were given candy as a bribe to be good.

I don't think I have to spell it out any further, Wudger.

One of my senators, State of LA got $100 million to help bail out our govt. funded healthcare system in this state. Imagine that. They bribed her to vote for something that a majority of our state doesn't want with money to fix something similar to what she voted for. It is the height of stupidity and I am disgusted by it.

As a recent public opinion poll indicates, voters in few states are more opposed than in Louisiana to what President Barack Obama and Democratic leaders propose. The Southern Media survey showed 58% of respondents oppose "the Obama administration healthcare reform position" to 36% who favor it. That should be no surprise to anyone who attended any of the town hall meetings on the subject held in Louisiana in August and September.

Question for ex-drug addicts/ex-alcoholics
Posted: 11/22/2009 1:02:29 AM
Most addicts I have worked with trade one addiction for another, they are going external to get satisfaction instead of going internal, because they have lost the self-confidence to change the way they feel without an external modifier (God/sex/drugs/alcohol/shopping/work/...). Being sober is not the same thing as not being an addict. If a large percentage of them were to pick the bottle/joint/blow/whatever back up, they would just trade their current substitute back for the substance and then they would be neither free from addiction NOR sober.

College- A Dream Deferred.. Once Again, Penalizing the Poor
Posted: 11/22/2009 12:48:00 AM

I wouldn't blame professors.. not at all.

Yes my school runs the heater, they powers the lights, the projectors, etc. etc. etc. But don't pass the bill to the student, keep it with the school. I'm not advocating for anyone to get pay-cuts (accept professional athletes and celebrities) but I do suggest increasing the student population. That might help! In fact, it helps in more ways than one- maintaining or reducing tuition & educating more young folks. On top of that, buy more efficient "green-friendly" light bulbs. Those are just a couple of suggestions. I'm pretty sure there are more.

Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. You need adequate personel/facilities to increase student population. The waiting list to get into the program I am in is rather long and there is never a defecit of bodies, it's the staffing that is the concern, and with budget cuts to education, more staff cannot be hired.

College- A Dream Deferred.. Once Again, Penalizing the Poor
Posted: 11/21/2009 10:21:43 PM

Like I stated before, there isn't another available solution. Conscientious people will change their light bulbs.. they'll turn off their lights IF they don't want to pay a higher electricity bill. Some people don't break laws because they come with fines, right? So what's wrong with using money as a punitive consequence of not helping the world as a whole? How is that the same or even correlative to Colleges raising tuition?

You live in NY. You know how cold it gets. That school you attend has to run the heater. They have to power the lights, the projectors, etc. etc. etc. When Obama made energy more expensive, do you think they cut the professor's pay to compensate? Nope, they just passed on the energy bill to the students. This obviously isn't the only reason for tuition increasing, but it is one of them. Cost of operating a school is going up. So is cost to attend. Professors aren't suddenly making 2x what they were, I can promise you that.

It is not the customer's responsibility to make up for your piss poor system.

Actually, yes it is. Otherwise we say screw this and they can prepair their own meals. It's a service, just like anything else, and if you want it to remain such, you pay for it. If not, don't go out to eat. If you do, you risk your health and wellbeing at some places, lol

Quietly place your tip into a glass of water. Place a menu over the top of the glass. Turn the glass upside down, while pressing the menu against it's top (now bottom), and set the menu, and glass on the table. Hold the glass down, while pulling the menu out from under it. The money will be in the glass of water. Get up, and leave, without saying a thing. To get the money-or even just remove the glass to set the table for the next diner-the waitress will have to pick up the glass...which will spill the water all over the table, seat, and floor; causing the need for cleanup. You both pay the tip, and show how much you really thought of the food/service. By the time anyone can call a cop, you will be long gone.

More often than not this will go wrong and the genius doing it will leave the establishment looking like he can't control his bladder much to the amusement of everyone else.

think about it......other than food service or barbershops/beauty parlors.....have you ever been tipped?.....in 25 yrs of bricklaying.....i've gotten tipped twice.....

Again, think about it. Does your boss pay you $2.15 an hour to lay bricks? No. This is some seriously flawed logic.

I will agree with the aussie guy. Lets increase the price of everything on the menu in America by 20-25%, pay the increase to the waiter/waitress, and call it good. See how you cheapskates like it then. I would love the look on everyone's faces when they waddled into their favorite resturants and saw that one!

Why is violence for self defence acceptable by law since you can just run away instead?
Posted: 11/21/2009 8:40:49 PM

Keep in mind there is a difference between PHYSICAL force and LETHAL force.
Generally, you can use physical force to defend yourself from offensive physical force.
Generally, You can ONLY use lethal force if you're feel you yourself are threatened with lethal force and there is no escape.
Generally, there is no requirement to escape in your own home. (this is called the Castle Doctrine).
Obviously these requirements could vary from state to state.

P.S. Generally, there is never a right to use lethal force to defend property.

See, legal questions answered and I didn't even charge you. I'm so nice.

You live in TX. Perfect. What are your thoughts about Mr. Horn (*SP) a couple of years ago or so and his shooting of 2 people on the lawn? Just curious.

Also, yes, I am quite happy that we have a Castle Doctrine in my state and that I can defend myself without legal worry as well.

The 11 year old kid will then argue that this "liberty=freedom=right to be gay." In all honesty, I think gay couples should get tax-breaks too. The whole point of the tax-break is because people are co-habitating and this cuts down on resource and energy usage. Hell, I think anyone who co-habitates for a year or longer should get the same tax-breaks married people do. Just my .02

I still feel that a dog should not be kept for self-defense unless it is the only option. Sure they can double as such, but they should not be a primary system imho. Yes, all the dogs I have had were very good at judging situations. My last dog kept the pit-bull we adopted off of me, and in truth kept that thing alive a little longer as had it bitten me I would have put it down sooner than I did (Dog was abused all it's life by the family we rescued it from. It had issues, sad.) The dog I had before that was very good at assessing a situation and keeping people off the property that needed to be kept off.

Dogs are great, but I would prefer a firearm. So much more "controllable". I am a fan of variable reduction.

What's the deal with all the doctors???
Posted: 11/21/2009 8:25:42 PM
As a nursing student I have learned something: The more I stay away from Dr's, the better off I will be--as long as I am getting done what NEEDS to be done.

My Dr. is a no BS kinda guy. I have a problem, I go see him, he fixes it. The only lab tests I get done are bloodwork testing for various pathologies being as I am in a healthcare program.

The less meds you are on, the better. But if you need medication, TAKE IT! Especially bloodpressure and bloodsugar controlling meds. SO MUCH! end-organ damage can be avoided if people take these.

Watch your body composition. Notice I don't say weight. Body composition and waistline are where it's at.

Eat a balanced diet and try to steer clear of a lot of red meats.

If you DO need to see the doc, don't "hold out". Go see 'em!

I tend to get better treatment because I don't have insurance. That means all the BS that goes on with testing and whatnot to satisfy an insurance agency and ensure the Dr. makes money and all that doesn't happen with me. I do my healthcare a'la carte and think that is the best way, personally, until I hit an age at which I will be at greater risk for surgical issues. That gets expensive fast.

Quite smoking. I know you won't listen, and that's ok as you will keep me in a job, but seriously. Quite. That is the #1 thing you can do for yourself, healthwise, imho.

The Great Pyranis are massively effective animals with no training what so ever imho. Buy one, love it, and it will protect you. Besides that they are very nice looking and quite soft to the touch. I like them a lot, but it would be cruel to own one where I live due to the heat unless I shaved the poor thing.

Why is violence for self defence acceptable by law since you can just run away instead?

^^^^I agree, I am in the national gaurd (infantry, and from basic they teach controlled pairs and center mass. Dont worry about the head shot or a limb, put two rounds in the largest visible part of their body.

The way I see a lot of people shooting this is good advice from a practical standpoint as well! Also, the head is one of the hardest targets to hit. It is moving fast, it is small, and it has an "armor-plating" that can cause bullets to glance.

College- A Dream Deferred.. Once Again, Penalizing the Poor
Posted: 11/21/2009 5:01:13 PM
I look at our economic system as a force that perpetuates money over life. "Tools" are people who work for money because they believe it to be worth more than a human being. "A tool to the system". I assumed you had that mindset, I can be wrong. You could have just found a major that happened to be monetarily rewarding that you really enjoy doing (and don't place a dollar over a person's life). Once again, sorry for that. Question my profile if you want.

Obama's energy policy did not cause the recession. It is the best solution available that would ultimately save money. Just because it comes with a high price tag doesn't mean he is raising tuition or taxes indirectly- he is simply trying to do minimal damage to an already damaged economy- which are the cause & effects of the previous presidents.

See, I have been asked several times WHY I am doing what I am doing in the course of my education. My answer has always been the same.

1. When I am lying on a bed in a nursing home, I want to know I did something that someone else gave a damn about. Helped the human conditon, as it were.

2. I want a job that will ALWAYS want me. (I don't want to get layed off/downsized).

3. I want a job that I can travel with.

4. I want a job that will pay me enough money that I will never be like my parents, crying at night because I can't afford clothes/haircut/whatever for my kid this month.

5. I want a job that will give me options within my field so I don't "burn out" doing the same thing year after year.

6. I wanted a job that I could get educated for in 6 years or less without a mountain of debt.

For me, that meant healthcare. 4-year degree in nursing. My model for employment covers everything you listed plus the ability to provide comfortably for myself. I want to own superflous things like $100K cars and whatnot. Maybe you don't. That is just a personal choice.

As to Obama and energy, no. He is not trying to lower the cost of energy "ultimately/in the end". His plan for energy cost only shows it rising. What else can it do with the industry restrictions he has placed? He is more concerned with pleasing the environmental groups than with the cost to the citizens.

As you can see here, he doesn't care about your wallet. He cares about your trees. So hey, go hug a tree, man. If that's not your thing, he's not your guy. The "when technology catches up" comment is most accurately interpreted as "when "clean" power is more available, I (Obama) won't tax the hell out of and regulate it to death, so it will cost you less". Yeah, eventually it will, but not in the next few years. Any way you slice it it will never be as cheap as it could be. Sure, costs will come down, but not to former levels. This video shows his outlook before he became president. Your electric bill shows the result of this outlook and his stimulus plan with regards to energy companies.

I have not noted that much of a hike in my tuition through the past 5 years I have attended college. It has remained virtually unchanged except that lab fee's etc. have gone up because state funding for our programs has been lessened. Still, this last semester is within a couple hundred bucks of the first semester I took almost 5 years ago. Of course now that I am in a BSN nursing program I have to pay lab fee's, etc. that were not incurred, hence it is a bit higher. I guess the colleges I go to didn't screw around with money so much.

^I understand what you are saying, but a gun does not have a mind of its own. YOU are 100% in control of what it does. With the dog, there is always the chance it won't hear you/got pissed/whatever. It is a variable. The less variables there are in potentially lethal situations, the better. JMHO

'It's all about the student, stop blaming the school. "

Sheez. Lame. It takes two to dance.

Or: It's all about the junkies, don't blame the pusher. It's all about the johns, don't blame the pimp!

The schools are pimps, opushing a product just like any other business. no morality involved.
That contract you signed is worthless. If they go out of business, or just can't aford you in a year? What then? Life is not certain.

So the school is who forces the student into a certain degree/field? Negative. The student chooses. If they choose a "dead" field, who's fault is that? Not the school...

You want to know who the pimp and pushers are? The authors of text-books who change the order of a few chapters and then the school requires that the new book--with it's whole 2 pages of added content difference--be mandated and you have to buy a new $185 book. THAT is something to complain about, not people picking poorly thought out degrees to persue that leave them in debt with no employment opportunities.

What if my local hospital system goes out of business? 4 of the hospitals in my metropolitan area? Well then me not having a job at one of those institutions will be the least of my concerns. Society will have seriously broken down if 80% of the hospitals in a city of near 1/2 million are shut down.

What if they don't want or have room for me? Well then since THEY broke contract, I keep the thousands of dollars they have already given me and move. Sounds great to me. Again, I could care less about my contract, I was using it as an example of how desperate they are for workers in certain fields that they will spend thousands upon thousands of dollars to court people years from their graduation date. It was a nice way to get "free" money. They pay me thousands of dollars to SAY I will work for them. I don't want to? I just hand it back and work for someone else. You are right, the contract is worthless, but the money in my bank account still has at least a little value, lol.

I think a trained attack dog is a liability. Do they have their place? Yes. However, I would rather just have a loyal companion and a firearm than an attack dog. An attack-dog is a gun that actually does have a mind of it's own, basically. Not that it will ever do anything "bad" of its own volition--but it very well could. A dog does not have the higher reasoning powers that a human being does.

If your highly trained dog sees your 12-year-old son wrestling on the lawn with the neighbor boy squeeling with laughter and having a good time--it may not interpret this the same way you would. What then?

Now, for a blind/disabled/elderly person who lives alone in a bad part of town because that is all they can do on social security, I think this dog has a lot of merit. That 80 year old man won't be wrestling on the parkinglot in front of his appartment complex, and he may not hear an intruder in time to grab a firearm, or he may be unsteady/not very proficient with that firearm. A well-trained dog makes a lot of sense here. Still a liability, but the cost/benefit is starting to lean hard in the direction of benefit.

Pharmacist defends store with gun. Charged with murder

Is the kid a loss to society? Well, he got what he got and it was because of what he did. However, the shop owner--if he indeed shot him while he was unconscious on the floor--was acting outside the bounds of self defense or defense of his property. While it may not have been the best or fastest way, the court should have decided what the kid's fate was, not an overzelous shooter. Court is slow and messy, but it's a pain in the ass that we need to keep in place.

Well Nappy, if the OP lives in a town like mine, it is hard to find single women who do not have kids. (go ahead, punch in 71115 zipcode and see what you get)

Also, they tend to use kids as an excuse, my friends and I joke about it all the time because when we worked togather all we heard was "I need to leave early/I was late/I this, I that, I this..." and who was to blame? Well the kid of course!

Many MANY times I have seen parents throw children under the blame bus and its almost to the point where I think they are happy that the pill didn't work or bobby didn't pull out in time or whatever. They have an instant-out now! Why did they fail at whatever in life? They have a kid! Of course! It explains everything and they should be given slack. The kid has become the golden ticket to excused failure.

Of course, this does not mean all parents are this way. Not at all. I don't think they are, but enough of them are that I can understand 100% the OP's irritation and outburst over it.

I am the tool? You are the one who has regressed from logical debate to personal insults. Lets keep in mind that you are trying to present yourself as a level-headed college student complaining about tuition increases.

Instead you appear to have grown irritated over the fact that yes, you are wrong about Obama's energy policy and that yes, Obama is increasing your tuition cost indirectly and that yes, I did call you on it when you tried to shift blame.

Please consider how at-odds this response of yours is with your profile information:

^They are hiring minors now? Or are you saying he isn't a kid?

This thread is about minors. From the gist of it, under 13. Yes I understand your son was once a little boy, but his current stage of life is not what is being discussed.

Mainly I get the idea that the OP is tired of all the single parents out there. So am I. It's rediculous. Either that or they are tired of the "Oh let me show you my brood on my iPhone, I took pictures of them all in their new..." type that tend to infect the work-place.

couple arrested for not tipping.,,

Agreed. They should have the sense to find a better job working for a better employer. A business that mistreats its employees will not survive if no one is willing to work for it. But as long as people are willing to put up with subpar treatment, you can't put it all on the company. The employees knew what they signed on for and their showing up for work everyday is implied consent.

Well, you take what you get sometimes, and cheaper resturants just treat you that way a lot of the time, and if the boss doesn't, the customers do. It's called "making it" until you get out of college. Life isn't a bed of roses.

Also, just because I showed up to work every day may have meant I would put up with management (I did, but I dished it right back and we had a good ol' time throwing water on each other and cursing at each other until we were blue in the face and one of my managers finally kicked me in the shin and smirked and trotted off, to which I laughed), but I still didn't put up with customers who just wanted to start things. I handled it decisively and effectively and never was put off by a customer. I never got written up by a manager either.

As soon as a customer launched into their "I want shit for free and will whine until I get it" speech, I just called a manager and let them deal with it. I couldn't care less about profit loss or whatever, not my problem. If management caters to the welfare crowd, it's not my concern as long as I didn't have to listen to them whine, and I didn't. I got a manager to instead.

I would also give the customer back the same attitude they gave me. Again, whatever, if you treat me like a dog, I will kick you right back and smile while doing it. Not worried about consequences as I ran my station very effectively and management loved me.

I guess I was that odd resturant employee that demanded as much from my customers as they demanded of me. Those who couldn't meet MY standards got stepped on just as hard as my tip-jar did when I screwed up and didn't meet someone else's standards. Yes, I did make a few mistakes, and lots in the beginning, and I never complained when I was not tipped when I messed up as I made $7.15/hr + tips.

Point being, I expected my customers to behave as well as me, and when they came in behaving worse, I met THEIR expectations as expressed by their behavior to the letter. Like I said, tips were secondary income for me. I could afford to dish it right back. Those with an attitude were of the type that didn't tip more than $1 or something anyways.

Anyways, watch "Waiting". While I never and never saw anyone do anything "gross"* to food while I worked at a resturant for 8 months, the rest of that movie is almost documentary quality in its accuracy.

*There are resturants around town I won't eat at because things like this do happen and I know people who work there that have told me to steer clear of the place on certain days during certain people's shifts.
