. I have seen and heard Mr. Vick express his remorse at his actions. He is also working on behalf of the Humane Society. I am still not completely convinced, but I'm such a darned softy, I always hope a person has seen the error of their ways, and are genuinely trying to make amends. He can't do anything for the poor animals already dead, but he can do much for animals still in horrendous situations, and he can educate children that there is no justification to torture and kill animals.
He only found the error in his ways because he was caught! He wouldn't have stopped fighting dogs if no one found out about it! How can someone NOT know that dog fighting is not right? He KNEW what he was doing was wrong! And the Humane Society will take whatever POS they can get for publicity, I think it's pathetic that they asked for his help, it's just "good PR" for him which he doesn't deserve. He knew what he was doing was wrong, he just never thought he would get caught.
You know they had a champion female who had all of her teeth ripped out so they could tie her to a rape rack to be bred because she was so aggressive. Without teeth she couldn't harm the male, and she certainly couldn't harm the male being tied down. They had a bait dog who was absolutely terrified of people, to the point he would totally shut down and whenever he walked he walked crouched. Michael Vick screwed up these dogs lives. He also made the Pit Bull breed look even worse and more blood thirsty.
He shouldn't be allowed to play football. Hell, someone should rip his teeth out and beat the crap out of him! He has never had to fight for his life. All of his dogs had to fight just to stay alive. It's pathetic.

I am OK with not hearing I love you

I don't know, I think 9mos could be too soon for "I love you".
However, someday I would want to hear it. I think it's unhealthy to not say it at some point. You can show your love and you don't always have to say it, but it should be said once in a while.

Dog Grooming - How to trim his nails
Posted:
6/28/2009 5:40:19 PM
How bad is the dog?
Is he trying to bite you, or the people doing the trimming?
Is it a phobia, as in, does he pee and express his anal glands and poop all over? Or is he just being a tool and trying to eat you.
If the dog is actually phobic of the nails being touched this requires a TON of work on your part. Start by touching his paws, do NOT let him bite you or lick your hands, make him lay down on his side and MAKE him let you touch his feet. Google NILIF policy, and work on your basic obedience commands, sit, lay down, stay, heel etc.
Once he allows you to touch his paws you work with the trimmers. I could go into more detail but I don't know if this is the case.
If he is trying to bite you and is just being a tool then I would do some serious obedience work and maybe a couple of come to jesus discussions. He needs to learn that he isn't in charge of his feet and that what will happen if he tries to eat you is way worse than the nails being trimmed.
Also worst case scenario have the vet clinic sedate him and hack the nails back past the quick once a year.

Is it ok for a overweight person to reject another overweight person, solely based on them being ove
Posted:

Uh, NO--I don't think that is "OK". BE what you seek. And seek what you ARE.
Would you date yourself?
I don't mind bigger guys but I have no interest in dating someone who outweighs me by several hundred pounds.
It all comes down to preferences. Some skinny guys like fat girls. Some fat girls like skinny guys. I don't think it's a question of "is this okay". There should be no question about a person's physical preferences.

Raw Feeding your pets
Posted:
5/9/2009 9:23:53 PM
Unless your dog is in contact with many other sick dogs .... no need to vaccinate against kennel cough
Some dogs can be carriers of the virus and show no outward symptoms.
Our vaccine protocol is if you don't board your pets, you don't take them to the dog park, then you don't need to vaccinate. If you wish to take your dogs to dog parks, or board them then you should. I'm mostly just saying kennel cough should not be taken lightly at all. We've seen several cases within the past month or two, some dogs have gotten it from boarding facilities and day care places where others have just randomly gotten it. Yes it can be "just a cold" but it can also turn into something way worse.

Raw Feeding your pets
Posted:

I declined it (for those of you non dog people vaccinating for kennel cough is like vaccinating for the common cold) and he said i was "risking my dogs life.
And whoever told you that was completely stupid. I work in a vet clinic and kennel cough can make your dog extremely ill and lead to bronchitis and pneumonia. It's not simply a cold and if your dog gets it because you didn't vaccinate your dog against it you are putting your dog's life at risk.
Don't even get me started on distemper and parvo, both very serious diseases.
As far as feeding raw, I don't. I feed my dogs a high quality kibble [Canidae] and feed my cat First Mate. My cat has severe food allergies, we've tried raw but it made him sick so now he will not eat raw meat. It sucks because I bought $100 worth of elk and he wouldn't touch it, raw or cooked. I don't have anything against raw feeding, but it's a crap shoot as far as health and food are concerned. I've met dogs that lived into their late teens on atta boy. It's really the vigor of the dog.
anyone out there feeding their pets veg?.... warmly Mona
Dogs can go vegetarian moreso than cats can, IE: you can find vegetarian kibble for them. However dogs are omnivores and should be fed meat as well. Cats CAN NOT be on vegetarian diets as they are carnivores. They eat some plants like grass, and digest whatever their prey was eating but cats are meant to eat meat.

Pets and their Health Care
Posted:
5/8/2009 9:07:58 PM
First of all... flea collars are archaic.
Secondly when you take an animal in it is your responsibility to take care of them properly. If you decide to get a small dog, like a Yorkie, Chihuahua, or Dachshund you should know they all get super nasty teeth because they are small dogs and will need lots of dental care throughout their lives. We're talking at least $200 per teeth cleaning if you do it at least once a year. It's the cost of owning a pet.
I'm sure you go to the doctor when you have a problem. How would you like it if your kids said "Oh she's got some arthritis, instead of treating it we'd like our mom euthanized!" I'm not saying you have to spend thousands of dollars on your pet but if the condition is treatable and the animal is in good health otherwise there is no reason not to treat the problem.
I DO agree that it is horrible when people drag their pets lives out. We see cats in kidney failure at 15-18 years of age and the owners are just squeaking them by. Cats that should weigh 12lbs that only weigh 4-6lbs. It's horrible. That I do disagree with. If the animal is in visible pain or the animal can no longer do the things it used to do to lead a normal life then I do think one should do the unselfish thing and put them out of their misery. As a pet owner it is also our responsibility to give a pet a dignified death.

Age range you are looking for. What's that say about you?
Posted:
5/7/2009 8:58:28 PM
Men seeking younger women is not as disturbing to me, because historically men have been the leaders in their homes. So a man that is 44 could easily be the leader with a 28 year old, though that is getting pretty young for a lot of things.
Oh god we aren't going to start talking about 'calm submissive behavior' now are we? This is starting to sound more like a Cesar Millan discussion.
I have put on my profile that I have no interest in dating anyone over 30. I chose this age because older guys are more mature, IE: guys 25+ at least they tend to be on some levels anyway. I however do not have a daddy complex and think anyone over 30 is simply too old. I don't care if they are my age or slightly younger. I had to put a "limit" because old people were hitting on me and it creeped me out.

Are health problems a total deal breaker?
Posted:

Yeah, it affects me every day. I have 3 chronic diseases. I think people don't understand for the most part. But I'm not sure I'm willing to give up just yet and be a bachelor all my life.
I have to keep a strict diet, control my diabetes, and I go for chemo every 8 weeks for my 3rd fun condition. It's a lot, but you wouldn't know I'm sick if you saw me. I am 6'2" of pure datable beefcake.
The way you've posted it in your profile makes me think I should feel bad for you. I wouldn't mention it until you are on a date with someone. I realize these are all things that have affected you strongly but that really isn't a potential date's problem. Are you looking for someone to take care of you, or someone to share your life with?

No one should loan ANYONE that they don't know super well large amounts of money. I hate to be a total nasty but he didn't take advantage of your good nature, just your stupidity.
Also I don't feel this is a POF issue, I hear about scams like this ALL the time, POF can't control a guy asking you for money, you give it to him and he doesn't pay you back. It should be your job to persue it and take him to small claims court or what have you. There are men out there like this all over, not just online. They can't control scam artists anymore than they can make "good natured" people like you stop giving people money.

Cat bladder infection?
Posted:

It might not just be a UTI male cats often have issues producing crystals he could be spraying out of discomfort. One of our clients cats was spraying around the house a couple of weeks before he became blocked and almost died.
I would take your cat in and have his urine checked. If the UA comes back clean then he's spraying and it's a behavioral problem.

This feeling sucks.....my cat is on her way out.........
Posted:
3/15/2009 5:37:26 PM
I hope she passes peacefully... you realize it can sometimes takes DAYS for an animal to die, and it can be a very agonizing process. She may not be in pain because mentally she might not be "there" to realize. Often times when an animal lives way beyond their time they go into auto pilot.
Ultimatley it is your decision, but as a pet owner is is our resonsiblity to not be selfish and keep our pets around for longer than need be.
I work in the veterinary field and I can't tell you how many sick, frail cats and dogs I see because the owners keep making them hold on. A client told me the other day her cat used to be a whopping 14lbs of muscle... but the cat who is in kidney failure is now a rack of bones at 6lbs. I will never let me cats or my dogs look like that just to make me happy. Animals are good at hiding their pain and will keep themselves going to make you happy even when they aren't.
The decision is super hard to make. My first dog ended up with lung cancer. We kept him comfortable but I ended up making the decision to euthanize him because I didn't want to see him get to the point where he felt uncomfortable or stopped eating. He fell asleep in my arms and it was very peaceful.
I know it's a hard decision, and it sucks seeing your friend waste away. I like to think our pets are here just the right amount of time, to teach us certain things and make good memories.

cat suddenly peeing where she shouldn't

this is exactly what is going on with my cat. He did improve for a couple of days after the first vet visit to treat the respiratory infection but it didn't last.
So far we are holding our own LOL...I think in our case it was probably a gradual dwindling of appetite...then I noticed he was less energetic( and cussed!), picked him up one day( not something I do often, because His Majesty regards that as an affront to his dignity LOL) and noticed he seemed to have lost weight.
In fact it's about time for another feeding...
Cindy O
They usually do recover, and I'm sure you caught it just in time :) But yeah... just going off of their food gradually can do it. I think some cats are more sensitive. We work with a cat/dog rescue and they had a 18lb cat that they put on r/d to diet it... the cat lost weight too quickly and went right into fatty liver disease. She unfortunatley didn't make it, but the rescue is known for letting stupid people foster the animals, so she may have been ill for a long time. Hang in there! Haha maybe with the constant handling he'll warm up a bit and deem you worthy of handling him more :p cats are just one of a kind!
It seems Niki Naki Nu has a big old thyroid tumor and a slightly enlarged heart.
That's not too bad! The tumor can be removed... they can take the whole thyroid out actually and then you just put them on thyroid meds for the rest of their life. Even with the enlarged heart there are meds to watch that too. On the upside at least it isn't a bladder problem because stuff like that sucks to deal with... especially if the cat has recurrent problems. Thyroid and heart are pretty easily taken care of, so I'm glad to hear you at least have some answers!

liver got out of whack and the only way to get him better is to force feed him( yes it can be done...larger hypo syringes/dose syringes)
This is an extremely important bit of info. Cats do NOT do well when they aren't eating. if your cat stops eating it should see a vet immediatley because they can develope hepatic lipidosis aka fatty liver disease. It turns your cat yellow and they end up needing to be force fed. Usually they can recover... but sometimes they don't.

Statewide Breed Ban
Posted:
3/6/2009 8:56:49 PM
So Plebayo, With your two bite rule, it sounds like you meant on two separate occasion. So the pit bull that tore a child up, should get another chance? Any animal that does damage to a human on a first bite should be killed immediately, no questions asked. If the dog is not one of the breeds known for crossing the line, say a lab or golden retriever instead, then maybe give it a second chance. But only if the first biting incident didn't require medical attention.
I SAID IT WAS AN EXAMPLE. It's not a law I would want! The entire thing would have to be situational. I'm sorry, but if YOU a stranger walk onto MY property and my dog [who is not a pit, or pit cross by the way] bites you and you decide to tell county I don't think my dog should be euthanized because you came on my property without me wanting you there, regardless of damage done.
Also Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers have always been known to be snappers/biters. Granted they don't have a high prey drive but they are not all known to be fluffy and nice. Labs and Goldens are just as popular as Pit Bulls and have had the same problem, minus the breed ban. They have been guilty for snapping at kids and people for AGES. I can name you at least 10 Labradors, PUREBRED not crossed with Pits etc. that are considered "caution" dogs at the clinic I work at. I could name you at least 5 "caution" Goldens as well. Any dog can be bad in the wrong hands, I see it all the time. Alternatley they can just come out of the womb that way.
Any dog can kill[people or other animals], any dog can bite. The bottom line is, ANY dog that shows human aggression, big or small, needs to take a dirt nap. I don't care about the breed, I don't care about the size of the dog. Human aggression without reason [IE: stranger on the lawn, someone attacking you, a bad situation etc] isn't acceptable to me.

This is exactly what I mean about owners being the problems nto the animals. Why should that owner be allowed to have a dog if they laugh when it attacks someone. who cares if it is just a little dog, still it viciously attacked someone. I ahve two German shepherds, both male. My smaller one is 80 lbs and the bigger is 130 lbs. If they bit someone I would have to put whichever one down. Completely unfair that just because they are big, yet a small dog is considered cute when they do the same thing.
I guess they are talking now about making it law that Pit Bulls have to be insured. I guess it's like $100 a year for like $100k worth of coverage or something ridiculous. I do think this would be a good idea. A guy's 3-year-old was mauled, and he was bitten. She needs several surgeries to correct her legs and the parent cannot afford it, and OF COURSE the guy with the pit bull can't afford it. But I feel like if Pit Bulls need to be insured, why not all dogs? ANY dog can bite someone. But I do feel like half of the population of people that own large dogs, are not responsible people.
Personally I think they need to require ALL dogs to have permanent ID, IE: a Microchip and place like a 2 bite law, record in the dog's history the 1st bite, how it happened etc. Record if the dog is found loose. Record whether or not the dog has been vaccinated and is recieving current vet care etc. 2nd bite, dog gets euthanasia, end of problem. This is just an example and I realize not fool proof, but they really should be tracking dogs more closely.

So what will they do next. Rotts? Chows? Or any other dog that was used as a guard dog or fighting dog?
how about chiuahuas, they are such nasty ankle biters.
Pretty much that is what will have to happen as these same irresponsible people move from Pit Bulls to bigger, truly badder dogs.
They wouldn't ban a chihuahua because a chihuahua is too small to kill a person. Basically no one cares if half of the chihuahua population is full of bad dogs [which it is!] it's really sad.

Spending too much time talking online.

It sounds like a "you" problem. You have your expectations held way too high.
Whenever I go to meet someone in person [if I have met them from the 'net] I meet them with no expectation of them being who I think they are online. People in person can be waaaay different. YOU put that person on that pedestal. They didn't get up there by themselves.
To answer your question, it's not a problem for me because I go into the meeting having no expectations other than to have a good time and meet a new person.

They're talking about banning Pit Bulls in the state of Oregon. What are your thoughts?
Personally I think it can be a good thing and a bad thing. I think it would be bad because people would take these dogs "underground" so to speak and we'd have even more unsocialized bad dogs because they wouldn't be allowed in public. I also think it would be bad because people would move from Pit Bulls to Cane Corsos or Presa Canarios which are dogs bred for guarding, they are bigger, and nastier if not trained properly.
I think it would be good because it might limit the people that own these dogs. If you look at the demographic of people that have owned Pit Bulls that have actually attacked people, they are people that probably shouldn't have ANY dog, no less an 80lb terrier. I work in a vet clinic and we have very few "caution" pit bulls. The ones that have been labeled as being "watch" dogs are dogs that come in every 3 years for a rabies vaccine, they aren't altered, and are clearly owned by the person as a status symbol and not a pet. However, I don't know that a ban would fix the problem.
It kind of bums me out... I adore the breed, I LOVE their gigantic heads. But they are way too popular right now and are being owned by the wrong people. People are breeding poor quality dogs that lack the personality the breed originally came with.

Animal experts are baffled by chimp attack
Posted:

The whole scenario is stupid. It's a WILD ANIMAL.
The thing that gets me is the 911 dispatcher was saying "Get in your car!" Firstly, the chimp has ridden in cars before, he knows how they work. Secondly he's a 200lb extremely strong animal and could rip into a car no problem!
I have a friend who went to Africa and volunteered for a chimp reserve, she was supposed to be there for a year but one day someone didn't lock a door and the chimps knew about it [thusly they got in a state of excitement]. She ended up getting locked in an enclosure with two of them and was almost killed. She was in there for 4 hours curled up in a ball while they waited for someone to dart them while being continously jumped on by the alpha male. There was a female in there that tried to comfort her but to no avail as the male continued to beat on her. They are wild animals, completely unpredictable even by the best animal behaviorists.
What is even more tragic is after being shot the chimp ran back into his cage in the house... the place he obviously felt safe in. They just don't make good pets.

Question about pseudo blowjobs
Posted:
2/28/2009 9:48:00 PM
I've been dating a woman for about 4 months. She's fairly good in bed, and enjoys oral. But her version of oral is the pseudo version that is about 1/2 inch of oral and the rest hand job. And while she's not bad at this technique, it's still not what I'm used to. And it's ok, and frankly if I want a blow job, I'd like a blow job. Either so it, or not. As I look back I've been spoiled but some women who really love oral, and were great at it. To give you the whole picture, I'll go down on here for an hour at a time
Congrats on being honest, at le4ast you're comunicating your problem.
You really need to watch the Sue Johanson episode when the chick calls in and says "My husband wants deep throat and I can't do it." Honestly guys, if you want deep throat get yourself a dildo and do it yourself! A lot of it is mental if you can't get pleasure from her mouth being on the most sensitive part of your**** which should be the head and not the shaft. Not that the shaft isn't sensitive, but it isn't the most sensitive part. The guys with girls who can deep throat should find themselves extremely lucky and blessed, you guys act like it's so easy for us to cram your junk down our throats and that we should be happy about it. I'm all about pleasing my partner, but in a way that I am comfortable with.

I think it's great you're being honest, but I don't think it matters either way whether you mention the fact ahead of time, or later. It might be better later because at least 50% of the guys you meet you won't see again and they probably won't make it in your pants anyway.
They're just breasts. Maybe you had an attachment to yours, but they're gone, and with them your life is saved and you're cancer free and able to continue living your life. I have a friend who had a double mastectomy and I've always thought if that happened to me... they're just boobs, and I could easily get rid of them to save myself. Not to mention freedom from bras! OMG how awesome. I have a scar down the middle of my chest from heart surgery... I mention it sometimes, but if someone is going to flip out over a freakin' scar they aren't worth my time or getting in my pants.

Til Death Do Us Part completely unreasonable?

I don't think it's unresonable at all. I wouldn't marry someone unless I knew it would work, and that we would work together to make it and see things through.
My parents are coming up on 44 years of Marriage. They've stuck together through some of the hardest times, my dad has and always will take care of my mom. He always says that he stood up there in front of all of those people for a reason. They don't always get along, and my mom has especially gotten weird due to being on massive amounts of pain medication, but my dad keeps doing his thing and taking care of her.

I think it should be a crime if you smash into someone/something while texting...
