I'm sorry you had such an ordeal of it, but it sounds like you made the mistake of feeding a troll. That's unspoken rule #1 on web forums, IRC, etc: Don't Feed the Trolls!
If you everyone ignores them, a lot of times they'll go away. Sometimes it irritates them enough that they become more aggressive, but that is usually the point when they do something stupid and get themselves banned.
By feeding them you give them the attention they want, so you can be sure they'll hang around to cause more grief.

juniper, that wouldn't have been about the documentary about the Human Calculator (English autistic guy), was it?
He claimed he was able to do all sorts of complex numerical calculations by "seeing" his way through a landscape of numbers.

The fire alarms at the dorms in college always made me very unsteady & gave me a splitting headache to boot...so yes, I suppose that qualifies as sensory overload :)

Bad spelling annoys me mainly because most browsers have spell checking built into them anymore. How hard is it to right click the words that have the red/green/whatever underline and select the proper spelling?
Slang annoys me worse than honest mistypes, because it adds to the bloat of a language that already have way too many words that say the same thing. What it boils down to is someone was too lazy to look through the dictionary for the correct word, or thought they were being cute by intentionally changing the spelling while keeping it phonetically the same.
If you want to use shorthand, that's fine. There are already several established forms of short hand to choose from, no need to invent new ones.
I guess for me the whole thing boils down to what messages you're sending using bad spelling/slang/etc. Most people are expecting to see common letter patterns, and by deviating from the normal harmonious flow of words it makes the process of deciphering the message they represent quite a bit harder. It's just a guess, but I assume most people ridicule on these forums is because they don't like things that are otherwise easy (conversation) made difficult.
Then again, some people may just be compelled to get the last word regardless of the content as other people have said

How long does it take to know if a new relationship is going to last ?

Well, dang. I can't think of any other good ways to say "never"/"when one of you dies". I guess I should've gotten to this thread sooner
I *CAN* add that there was a time when I would have answered "When you first meet". Unfortunately, the girl I was in the relationship at that time is also the one that changed my perspective. I was fully in love, but apparently I wasn't showing it in all the ways she was hoping for and she fell out of love after a couple years. This was Hard Life Lesson #3 for me.
I guess you COULD pick up a good sociology text on the subject and compare elements of your relationship with those of stable/lasting relationships to get a general idea of the stability of it. That still doesn't change the final answer though: "when one of you dies"

Blue collar or white collar - does it make a difference?

DirtyBen, you kind of have me over a barrel with your argument, since I see the whole degenerating into a "does god exist" style of argument:
Scientist: Prove it exists.
Believer: Prove it DOESN'T exist.
Scientist: I don't have any data to disprove its existence, but the idea is illogical, so I don't believe it exists.
Believer: I can't prove it exists, but I'm going to have faith and believe it IS real because that's what it wants.
We lack the knowledge to arrive at a definitive (a.k.a. I'm-right-you're-wrong) answer. I guess in this case I believe "opposites attract" to be a myth because I've never observed this kind of pairing resulting in a stable relationship, and the icing on the cake is that the data (even being slightly less than accurate) supports the conclusion that they usually DON'T work.
I guess the notion of white collar versus blue collar seems silly to me also because, as they say, "You can't help who you fall in love with". If you're fishing for information like the kind of work someone does you've probably already moved from hopeful optimism to desperation -- searching for any scrap information you hope might MAKE you compatible with that person. If you there wasn't something there on first contact (which in many cases is reading the person's profile), you probably aren't compatible.

I can't believe people are still perpetuating the "opposites attract" myth. The data sociologists have been gathering for decades tells us that is simply not a good recipe for a lasting relationship. As a general rule, the more personality traits/interests/etc you have in common the better the prognosis for the relationship.
White/Blue collar are just superficial labels some of our monkey-brained ancestors came up with to neatly (though highly inaccurately) categorize people into. Best to let them die and focus on more valid, verifiable indicators for good relationships.

Why do women post pictures of their breasts in thier profile?

That's an interesting idea, but I don't think it'll work
They do that in parts of Africa, and yet most of Africa STILL wars with each other

Uniquewoman, that's a tad unfair generalization don't you think?
Maybe if you'd qualified that as 'men of lower education', etc, it would be more likely to be true.
I think in general, intelligent, LEARNED men prefer someone who can hold their own in a conversation. Sure, physical attractiveness might be extra icing on the cake, but even a lot of less learned men prioritize other attributes over beauty. After all, what good is a super model girlfriend if they're ultra high maintenance & treat you like scum?
As to the breasts in pictures thing -- I think people as a whole just need to get over breasts altogether. They AREN'T a primary part of the reproductive system so there isn't any need to obsess over them.

How old is too old?
Posted:

Well, regardless, a 21 year old is quite a bit more likely to be compatible than a 30-something for someone that young...not that the relationship is likely to last given the OP's age REGARDLESS of the other person's age.
People change quite a bit during those early adult years, so the person you fell in love with at 18 may well not be the same person you find yourself married to at 25.

Profile deleted?

It appears neither POF system (forums, main site) no longer has any record of my 'SimplyUnique' account OR the email address that was attached to it. In fact, it went POOF on me sometime around 11:30PM last night, but I thought it was just a temporary glitch.
I've checked the email address that was attached to it to check to make sure it was fine and that I hadn't gotten any deletion notice or anything (which I hadn't).
If my account was deleted for some reason, may I at least know why?
If it wasn't deleted, what happened to it and can it be recovered? The record shows someone who was 49 closing the account on "Apr 11 2008 6:11AM", if that helps. I wouldn't know anything about that though since it was free when I registered it ~1 month ago.
