well, I think I savaged him pretty effectively in my various posts - just opening a window at further liveliness.

and, I dissed him by comparing him with myself.

Surprisingly, no one called me a narcissist for that, which was kinda disappointing....us megalos love attention.

Chuck - thanks

Dance - re: Renaissance man, it more accurately refers to someone like Benvenuto Cellini, a master sculptor, artist, scholar, and reputed demonoligist. But even more accurately Leonardo - Inventor, painter - a true genius who excelled at several disciplines. It's become corrupted in the modern world to mean someone with many interests.

It's my personal feeling that if you have not attained a Craftsman's/scholar level in many disciplines, and a Master in several, that you really should not be calling yourself a Renaissance Man.

OP - congratulations. You've sparked quite the conversation here, across many fields of thought and endeavor. Perhaps we, and the ladies, have you given you short shrift.

That tears it, it's official...

I'm changing my screen name from the over-used and under-understood "Renaissance Man" to "Shibumi."

Those who know, know.

It's always amazing to me that this keeps coming up on this site....I have not seen one woman that was here other than for an LTR or friends. This is not the place I would spend my time if getting laid was my primary goal.

That being said, I am a human being of reproductive age, and like most us, pretty damn horny. I absolutely want sex as part of any long-term intimate relationship with a woman. If a woman has a problem with that, than she has a problem with real intimacy.

My guess is, that besides the randy **stards who have not yet discovered Fling, Adult Friend Finder, or Alt.com, or are just too dang cheap, is that lot of this just must be classic man/woman miscommunication.

I did have a woman of your age read me the riot act for a mention of sex in my profile. Told me that it debased women.

Well, since when did sex debase women? Context is everything. In the proper context, it is the most loving, connective act of intimacy that two humans can engage in.

What's better, or for that matter, more important, than that?

Freud was revolutionary in his day.

Many psycho-analytic schools of thought have come since, both adding to and detracting from/taking exception to, his work.

It's interesting that of the three, Id, Ego, and Super-Ego, the one that stuck was Ego, and that as a dirty word.

Called a golddigger because I expect a man to buy me a drink?
Posted: 6/20/2009 7:29:08 PM
I prefer to pay on the first date - call me old fashioned. But if a woman offers to split the check, or pay, then I will defer to her need to do so.

I'm not a deferring kind a guy, but I understand the context for many women.

I don't think expecting a drink makes you a gold-digger. Expecting a new car makes you a gold-digger.

But, there were also some interesting responses I had not considered...

You are not a prude. Golden showers are pretty kinky.....and I am qualified to tell you.

I'm a shy pee-err myself. Gotta have my privacy. My last three girlfriends, for some strange reason, wanted that action, and I just could not provide it.

Almost anything else in the world yes, but no-go on the Go-flow.

SHALL WE TELL THE TRUTH?
Posted: 6/20/2009 7:15:57 PM
Well there is the actual truth, and then there is the perception of the truth.

I tell more and more truth on my profile, because screw it, might as well know it upfront. It also helps that I'm looking for friends, but even with that, I still scare many away.

I know that part of it is that my profile pic seems misleading - it's me 20 yrs. ago. It was on my profile originally just to advertise my excellent genetic potential :) But, someone complained to POF about my original pic, which showed my face just fine thank you, and POF yanked it, chose that one to stick there, and told me that if I posted something questionable again, I'd be banned from the site.

So, screw it, I left it up, and just called it youngster. I refuse to explain it in my profile If someone wants to construe that it is deliberately misleading without speaking to me, well, so be it. I don't think it's possible to come to a conclusion that I am somehow less than truthful after reading my entire profile. Insane perhaps yes, but a liar, no.

dancecard - a good cowboy/taste of dirt - I loved that. Consider that stolen...

OP..I think, in general, that folks have been very kind to you. I think folks are suggesting ADD because it is kinder than suggesting some type of neurological or personality disorder.

Associative intelligence is the highest form of intelligence. But understanding the relationships of all things, is useless without understanding their significance, context, and meaning. It's not rattling off on some conversational tangent because "oh yeah, you jut reminded me."

And here is the humbling part - in general, women's brains associate better and faster than men's brains - they are not "divided" as ours tend to be. (Notice all, I used the terms "in general" and "tend") That's why women often have those wicked leaps of intuition. Sometimes the associations are happening so fast, they can't tell you why they believe a certain thing, they just "know". Of course the magic is that we, in our plodding linear way, insist on following a thought progression from A to Z, and why they often need us to help sort out those lightning revelations.

But women get that kind of conversation from their girlfriends, they don't need it or want it from you. And, they don't want to be beat over the head with how smart or accomplished you are, even if that's true.

What they want you to, is listen. Listen, listen, listen. In other words, be interested in them instead of your self. Very few women want to hero worship anymore.

If you turn your "amazing" intellect and focus on them, you will come out the winner.

oh, and PS, if you want to see an actual Renaissance man, you can see my profile - musician, writer, athlete, entrepreneur, inventor, designer, kinkster, scholar, warrior

Any other grammar nazis around these parts?
Posted: 6/20/2009 8:23:19 AM
I guess poets, artists, and other creative types really should stay out of forum arguments regarding grammar, since we really don't give a fig anyway. While educators (those who can't do, teach), and their ilk are busy worrying about proper usage, we are busy inventing new ways to use the language.

Language is a living, breathing thing, not some ossified specimen coded in concrete.

The language serves us, not the other way round.

either a: you're depressed
or b : you're full of shinola

The best cure for ennui is to dedicate your time, effort, and seemingly vast fortune to helping those in need. The majority of the world lives on a dollar a day, if you can call that living. Take the focus off yourself, and become passionate about doing good in the world. The color will return to your life.

Best ways to increase your bench press?
Posted: 6/15/2009 12:57:54 PM
jwg86..

dude, I use 120 lbs in each hand on my flys. Is that powerful enough for you? I don't focus on bench for heavy gains because it is ultimately a counter-productive exercise, and almost certain to cause long-term damage at heavy weights over time. Hold out your hands in front of you - do they naturally line up straight, or do they curve inward and slightly upward? I've injured myself, and seen countless others injure themselves, with improper form.

Isolation is the first, and basic principle of strength gain and proper form, and yet almost everyone I've seen working their bench brings their back and legs into what should be a chest only exercise.

We've all heard the stories of the little old lady who lifted the car off of her husband in a time of extreme stress. How is that possible? It's possible because our muscles are already amazingly strong. There is an organ in your connective tissue called the Gogol organ, which causes pain when the muscle is exerting too much force, preventing you from tearing the connective tissue from the bone.

I have torn the muscle from my bone. It's no friggin picknick.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. Doesn't matter how powerful your muscles are, if your connective tissue is weak or damaged, then the whole chain is weak and damaged. So, logically, it follows, that you train to your weakness, rather than your strength. The benefit is that your muscles get incredible gains.

I've had 100% strength gains in 90 days with some of my clients, and some of those were senior citizens.

There is a lot more science involved, but if you want to know, you will have to buy my book.

When should you use swearing in your writing?
Posted: 6/11/2009 8:43:12 PM
A Wall St, guy (before the crash) is walking by a homeless guy, asking for change.

"Neither a borrower, or a lender be" - Shakespeare

The bum pointed a finger in his face - "F@#k you, you F*(%*ing F(*k!" - Mamet

People swear in real life because they are some of most useful shorthand words to express high emotion in certain, usually stressful, situations. It would untrue to many characters, if they did not swear.

For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is the most useful word in the English language and hands down my absolute favorite. In life, and on the page. And oh yes, in my poetry even.

guys why do u continually do that same dumb thing with hot womens?
Posted: 6/11/2009 8:23:15 PM
heh...this post made me chuckle - up-chuckle.....heh..

dude, english is a strange language without a doubt, and there is no particular reason why the plural of woman is women, as opposed to "womens" when Ebonics would claim it so, and so many other plurals end in S. English breaks it's own rules all the time.

And yes, here is the bad news - women like to be chatted up - they are verbal creatures. They enjoy compliments, humorous observations, sparkling wit.....

If you find yourself less than equipped in the language dept., perhaps you should increase your education - read, write, spell...

and don't be dissin' the hot chick. She's just psycho enough to be interesting..

Best ways to increase your bench press?
Posted: 6/11/2009 8:11:00 PM
lots of good advice here... I have three very simple things that will radicalize all your workouts, and bench is the perfect example point...

Start your workout with as light as weight as possible - preferably just the bar or even lighter if nec. Bring the bar down to your weakest position in your first rep - maximum stretch. Stay there until you feel your pecs twitch and arms start to burn with lactic acid build up. Make sure that you are close to complete muscular exhaustion/failure, then pump out a few quick reps. Take a breather, get a drink of water. You will feel an incredible pump. Now, you are ready for your workout.

This is the exact opposite of how most folks train, especially those juicing. They blow past the weak spot. A chain is only strong as it's weakest link.

I won't go into the science of this or the rational behind it, because I'm writing a book about it, but try it, it works. I discovered it, recovering from various shoulder injuries.

Change all your workouts to once a week - chest once a week, etc. This allows maximum stress, maximum rest/recovery. When it's workout time again, the muscle is "shocked' and fresh. I usually do one upper/one leg every day.

When doing any flat bench exercises - bench/flys, etc - lift your feet up in the air, or bring your knees toward your chest, like a stomach crunch. Besides helping you with your ab work, this completely isolates the chest, and prevents from cheating on your chest work by pressing your feet to the floor and involving the back in the movement.

Banning combat sports/The science behind 'fighting'
Posted: 6/11/2009 7:53:38 PM
Fighting rocks....

and if you really want to ban something, consider boxing - where people actually do die from being hit in the head. And consider Muhammad Ali..took some serious damage there. No one has died in an MMA match.

But yeah, go ahead and be consummately arrogant and try to ban something that humans have enjoyed for probably our entire history, and absolutely at least from Roman times. At least we are no longer strapping on spikes to hit each other with.

and:
"I've read articles, ive spoken to trainers, instructors, and the consensus is…martial arts, boxing, kickboxing are USELESS on the streets."

One word - bullshit. I've had lots of real world fights, and had plenty of training, and training has helped enormously. I'll never forget these two featherweight, short, skinny Golden Gloves boxers I went to Junior High School with - they could kick everybody's ass. That's why I started training. I fought every friggin day after school growing up. I wanted to win.

Stress can be a m-fer in the modern world, and have a serious impact on this part of a man's life.

Men change as they grow older - it is no longer just enough to have the wind blow...

I'm generalizing with the following, but : As women become more like men - less sensitive to mood, their feelings for the person, etc. as their sexuality peeks, men become more like women - what's going in the relationship, what's going on in his life...etc.

some bi-polars are quite rational....

two things:

1. Her illness is not your responsibility
2. A bi-polar person must be willing and able to do the things necessary to manage their illness. Meds being primary, but therapy if it helps, church, exercise, etc.

It's difficult, but if they are unable or unwilling to take their meds, then....I'm sorry

Why do Strong, Independant, and Outspoken MEN scare the hell out of the modern-day woman?
Posted: 3/22/2009 5:52:05 PM
Alpha Male here...

There are plenty of women who like strong men. Ironically, many of them are submissives/etc. playing in the fetish world.

Unfortunately, what a young man learns is that the more he mistreats women, the more women, and the more beautiful women he will have. Unfortunately, there are many women who do not understand or appreciate how to be well treated.

I think we have serious misconceptions about what strength is in our culture. for instance, courtesy and politeness is a sign of strength. I still enjoy being a gentleman.

My strength derives not just from character, integrity, or strength of spirit or mind, but because of the hardships I have endured and overcome. I have been tested and know myself.

Of course, there's the fact that I can hold women down with one hand, while taking my pleasure with the other. :) Oh, and the fact that I can beat up your boyfriend.

Yeah, that kind of power doesn't hurt.

Funny thing is, as a big guy, with really big energy, I have to tone it down all the time, or I scare people.

The worst part of being an alpha, is that those with control issues will see an alpha as a bull sees a red-flag. You can be completely peaceable, but they will go to war with you. And there is always some idiot volunteering for that position.

I think discourtesy, bluster, disrespect, and lack of empathy are not signs of an alpha, or a strong man. An alpha can be a deeply empathetic and emotive human being, yet still be able and ready to lead.

The very word husband comes from farmer - as one who cares for his plant with tender care, to maximize her beauty and potential. And that's not SNAG, that's profoundly masculine, and goes to the heart of the male desire and potential for love.

Fun Tall, I was shocked when I looked at your profile and discovered your age read 43. You must be one of those emotionally stunted "Peter Pans" that never grow up.

I still find young women physically attractive, though 20 yr olds are more often starting to look like girls rather than women to me.

But the last two women I had really compelling conversations with were both over 50. Emotionally and intellectually, they were more interesting.

Propensity Towards Violence in Relationships
Posted: 2/12/2009 5:32:48 AM
LOTS of good recommendations from the postings so far including:
1. thinking about/watching your blood sugar
2. getting checked out for bi-polar - in the manic phase many folks feel irritated, angry or agitated
3. get that heavy bag and whack the hell out of it. I own one, it's not only a great workout, but it's a great way to focus those energies when they come - cause everyone has those days.

Here is one more - if your injury permits, explore some martial art. Get out there and do some asskicking. More and more women are fighting. It's not something that our culture encourages, but women have testosterone also.

Do men enjoy foreplay or do they really just want to go to home plate?
Posted: 2/12/2009 4:26:36 AM
ps. The hottest - most erotically charged scene I have ever seen on film was in "The Last Samurai" when she is helping Tom Cruise put on his armor.

All that unspoken longing between them - delicious :)

Eroticism is the anticipation of what is to come.

I love kissing/caressing a woman everywhere but her most sensitive parts - until her body is rising off the bed to meet my mouth, hoping that I will at long last give her her desire.
