Women only seeking Christian men
Posted:
9/20/2009 12:44:04 AM
You better believe that it happens, OP.
Derailing thread now...
I pretty much met my *dream* girl in university, but her prerequisites for a boyfriend are that he be of Asian descent and Roman Catholic. I could only ever meet one of those two prerequisites. Even if I found a way to make it work with her, I'd go crazy dealing with her family looking down at me for "tainting their bloodline".
...k done.
Keep in mind that the world is a very big place. For every amazing girl you meet there are realistically many more with similar qualities.
Prejudice is a fact of life. It's something you'll have to deal with. We'll always be judged by the colour of our skin and our beliefs. Wars are fought over these things. As for myself I have a wavering interest in religion as a whole. God is God as far as I'm concerned, so I don't buy into the notion that one religion is the "one true path to enlightenment".
I'm perfectly happy with Christians who wish to educate others upon their own free will. Evangelical Christians (or evangelists for any other religion) drive me insane.

Microsoft Expects 10 Years Lifecycle for Xbox 360.
Posted:
8/9/2009 6:06:41 PM
I think....
...nay, I sincerely hope that the Xbox360 will live on for ten years in the same capacity that the Playstation 2 did.
When Microsoft and Nintendo released their next-gen consoles (the 360 and Wii) they immediately abandoned their old platforms, and stopped giving out new licenses to permit development on the platform (existing titles were OK, which is why there were a trickle of titles for both post-360/wii).
Sony did not do this. They rebranded their PS2 as the "budget" console when they released their PS3. Up until recently, there were still quite a few games being released on the PS2. Simply put... they lowered the price, changed the target market, and continued to sell the same system. They had planned to push the EyeToy once again, but this never came to fruition.
If Microsoft goes this route, then Project Natal will extend the 360's life in the same way. It'll become a budget console targeted for families and children.

AGP still lives on?
Posted:
8/9/2009 6:02:08 PM
They're just trying to make an extra buck. An AGP card is an unnecessary upgrade. The bandwidth of AGP8x can still suffice in many situations, but any card running in a machine with an AGP slot will be bottlenecked by the CPU.
It's like buying a car that can go 220km/h and only driving it at 100km/h.... wait, what?

Does anyone think that Windows 7 = another Vista upgrade?
Posted:
8/9/2009 5:59:22 PM
Windows 7 is essentially what Windows Vista should have been in the first place.
If you have an older computer then I can understand why you'd want to stick with XP, but if your machine can run Vista then it will undoubtedly run Windows 7 much faster than it does Windows Vista or even Windows XP.
Give linux a shot though. You'll love it... especially if you're the type that does all of their computing through their web browser.
Fedora Core is my Linux distro of choice, but Ubuntu is by far the best version for the linux newbie. They even have a Windows-based installer that will allow you to install the OS from within Windows (note that there are some limitations and performance issues using Wubi)

Should you lie....?
Posted:
8/9/2009 5:53:40 PM
YES. Believe it or not... *gasp* people lie. It's one of those sad realizations you'll come to over time.
The best thing you can do is try to be honest where it counts. In this case, it might have made sense to lie. There's really no need for you to divulge into your past. What happened has happened, and you can't undo it. He really has no need to know that you were a cutter... if you felt the need to tell him at some point in your life then hey that's fine.
The other option, not lying, will result in him coming to several conclusions about you and pegging you as an emotionally unstable person... and while that might have been true in the past, it may not necessarily be the case today. It would be wrong to give up a chance of love because of a false pre-judgement.

How do you take rejection?
Posted:
6/2/2009 9:33:29 PM
1) It hurts, because you're being rejected before the person even has a chance to get to know you. I get mad for a while, but eventually I get over it.
2) It's not nearly as bad. I know that she's taken the chance to get to know me and she just doesn't feel anything. I can accept that, and it's not nearly as hard to shake off.

Nothing.
I played a few random games of message tag over four months before moving back to my old city (work term ended) and no longer really needing the site.

I've been told that, as you get older, the roles sort of reverse.
I'm in uni now so the guys usually chase the girls... most of the older single people I talk to insist that it's the other way around for them now.

You need to make exercising a fun hobby.
The only real difference between me now and me four years ago is my mentality. Back then, exercising was something I felt that I had to do. Now, it's something that I legitimately want to do.

... a sexy girl does it for my eyes only. Sorry, but that's the best I can do to describe it.
IMO casual sex is a bit of a joke... when you connect with someone on more than just a physical level there's so much more going on.

What about the personal ads on Craigslist?
Posted:
9/17/2008 7:41:43 PM
Your typical female on Craigslist:
Hi,
So I don't normally do this kind of thing at all, but here goes. I'm 4'11, sexy and short but also BBW. By BBW I don't mean that I'm curvy... I mean that I'm about 300 pounds because I eat chips all day and write my emo poetry. OH BY THE WAY... I'm into art, tattoos, piercings, and poetry. All this really means is that I probably don't have a job and like to sit at home a lot. Most of our dates will really be us sitting in my apartment with my 15 cats and writing emo poetry, but for the sake of this post I'm going to say that I'm fun, outgoing, and friendly - despite my total social awkwardness.
I say I'm not shallow, but in reality I'm expecting you to look like Brad Pitt.
Your pic gets mine.

...but what's everyone's take on a missing front tooth?
The root canal I had done on my front tooth was pretty badly fractured in a little hockey incident the other night, and I'm going to have to get the tooth extracted.
Implants are frikkin expensive, and as a college student I don't really have the $$$ for it, but if it's really such a big deal I'll fork out and do it. It's one of my top teeth... the first one on the left side from the middle.

Your parents can whine and complain about it when you do, but they can't exactly take a razor to your head when you're asleep. As long as you don't have a job it's fine.... neon blue hair is something you could probably get fired over.

Yoga does have some minor strength-building benefits.
It was probably easier for you because your muscles were moving much more freely than in the past. Looser muscles aren't as stressed during exercise, and thus can last longer.

I'd point to a bloated Windows registry, a bad/poorly connected harddrive, or possibly even some RAM issues.
Other possibilities include a heavily fragmented harddrive, or some problems with your media player.
Try downloading and running the VLC media player. It's a lightweight player that supports virtually any format.

I would do it for a day... but the primary purpose would be for self-discipline, or some kind of "cause".
You want to do 60 days for the sole purpose of losing weight.
Either get off your lazy butt and start exercising, or go see a doctor.

Which exercises are fun and burn most calories?
Posted:
9/3/2008 9:00:19 AM
Most runner's love to run. Many start up, realize they hate it, and quit it. For me, I'd rather run than lift weights or do anything else of the sort, with the exceptions of ice skating or playing hockey =)
Swimming is pretty fun for me, as is cycling. I like the outdoors and I like water, so any of the above three are good. If you're a good ice skater or rollerblader, I'd have to recommend that as well. Just try not to do too much gliding.
If not, jump rope is pretty fun. Yoga is extremely relaxing, and helps you improve your flexibility. I hear that Pilates is great for toning. If not, you can try aerobics classes... you have an instructor guiding the class, and some dance music to keep your spirits up.
Of course, there's also dancing.
Sex is also great too, but it's kind of a paradox. You need to be in good shape in the first place to be able to go long/hard enough to get any energy burning benefit out of it... but I suppose that practice makes perfect.

My parents sent me to those natural, preventative medicine doctors.
You know, the ones that believe in herbal products and such. They're great for "detoxifying" your body, and it was one of them that discovered my Celiac's disease (for which I'm eternally grateful, cutting gluten changed my life)... but they will push a ton of supplements on you.

Reduce the amount of sodium and salt in your diet. We grow up eating foods that are far too salty, and wind up adapting our tastes to having high amounts of salt.
Try to cook your meals without salt, and try to avoid foods that are high in sodium content.

Interesting point.
I've never played golf before in my life. So will the first people that I play a round of golf with feel special that I lost my golf-virginity to them?
You can substitute any number of words into that and it still makes an interesting analogy.
Here's to everyone that's had their Facebook Wall-virginity stolen
To the OP:
That's your choice. Congratulations. I'm more of a "go with the flow" type... I could live without it if the girl wasn't interested, but if she was open to it and I was in the right mood I wouldn't say "No I can't I want to wait until I'm married".

The comb-over...
Posted:

Back when I was an annoying teenager I used to spike my hair. I used this stuff called "Stiff *&$#" . My spikes withstood everything except my football and hockey helmet (which is why I quickly ditched the style, despite it's awesomeness).
http://www.stiffhair.com/extreme7.html
I used this particular product. That might be a little strong for a simple comb-over, but it's more or less guaranteed to withstand the wind. Wow, seeing that bottle sure brings back memories.

Just want to know!

OP:
Have you seen a dog's reaction to a baby crying? Most of the time it drives the dog insane. It's pretty much the same thing here. I personally don't know what to do when I see a girl crying. Is making a joke a good way to change the mood, or do you just come off as insensitive? Should you sit down and console her, or will that just annoy her? Do you give her space, or does she interpret that as you ignoring her?
It's really a sticky situation that many (myself included) really don't like to deal with. I'm usually a little annoyed when a girl starts crying, but I won't get extremely angry. Now if she's the type of girl that cries about EVERY LITTLE THING, then I might start to get irritated.

Could You Go Without A Computer?
Posted:
9/2/2008 6:31:26 PM
Well it all depends. A lot of the stuff you've said can't be done on a computer without a decent Internet connection.
I pretty much need my computer + the Internet to survive. Most of my communication is done via E-mail, IM, or voice chat (cheaper than a phone lol). I spend most of my dead time on the Internet. Most of the books I read are e-books. I watch most of my TV shows on the computer. I watch movies on the computer. I play some videogames on the computer, but mostly on that shiny white Xbox360 beside it. I do most of my assignments on my laptop, though I still take notes the old-fashioned way. I'm also studying IT and hope to become a software engineer, so my career revolves around the PC.
Now that being said... I could definitely live without it, as long as I didn't have to go to school or work.
