I actually live in one of the proper small villages (at the end of the V10), we come under the MK Unitary Authority but are outside the designated New Town area.

And yup Hull's a dump, went there once.

well if you will insist on buttering me up, latest reports also suggest that the population explosion was caused by an outbreak of horniness.

in relation to the OP I have no further suggestions to add but as Mr Cowboy puts it so eloquently this place is waaaaaaaaaaaay different to anywhere else, partly because of 'The Rules' and partly in many cases because of the equally rigid mindset of many of the regulars.

One thing I will say about the road system, its fun blatting around it on a motorbike, It's like a racetrack ;o)

being mainly for the benefit of those either

a) living in MK
b) have lived in MK
c) have passed through MK
d) have considered visiting MK

(hope that doesn't count as Polarisation)

Extract from http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/wiki/Milton_Keynes

Milton Keynes is commonly believed to be a New Town in the South East of England. It is reputed to be located roughly mid-way between Oxford and Cambridge and to have a population of around 215,000,000. However, the truth is somewhat different. Milton Keynes is, in fact, a mass hallucination caused by mind-control experiments by the Ministry of Defence in 1967.

auto delete all threads more than 30 days old so that there's always fresh input and stop the old timers moaning about subjects being 'Done to Death' and chastising newer posters for not using the search function.

Why international profiles always in English?
Posted: 7/8/2009 5:11:39 AM
Cowboy

I can understand an accept the need for the forum areas especially to be in English (& this is in the rules) however it seems nonsensical for a native French speaker (for example) looking for a French Date to be made to write in English.

As far as I can tell there's nothing in place to prevent you writing your main Dating profile in any language you like (please feel free to point me to where it says otherwise) and indeed I have seen the odd profile with paragraphs wrritten in a language other than English

I think the OPs original point is quite good, search for People in any part of the EU for example and they're all in English( & usually very good English) which does seem a tadge odd.

What the OP *wasn't* asking was for the Site to be provided in multiple languages from an interface point of view.

Ok Lets presume that you're French, living in Besacon and want to date another French Person living within 100km of you.

Why would you (apart from the small print in POFs T&Cs or does that just apply to the forums??) want to describe yourself in English?

Questions you would ask of a potential new lodger?
Posted: 7/3/2009 11:32:02 PM
OP

I was in lodgings up until 3 months ago (slovakian girl around 15 yrs younger than me).

When I went around to see the place it was very informal (which lets be honest if you dont feel relaxed with the person then thats not a good start!) and we just chatted over a cup of coffee and some biscuits.

Hmm what sort of things came up that would be pertinent to slip in somewhere, lets see.

What sort of time they're likely to be up using the bathroom in the mornings (esp if there's only the 1),Allergies, are they likely to be wanting to bring someone back, food preferences , music preferences, how much stuff they have.

Bit like a first date really ;o)

A medic at Lister Hospital in Stevenage, Hertfordshire, has advised men against attempting DIY circumcision with nail clippers, after a young man who'd decided this was the best way to go roundhead was admitted for emergency treatment.

Staff disinfected the unnamed victim's wound, and he was dispatched to an observation ward bed. According to the Telegraph, the medic stressed: "This is something we would advise men never to attempt. The results can be quite horrific and long-lasting and have quite an effect on a man's sexual performance."

Hinting at what had provoked the patient to treat his foreskin in such a cavalier fashion, the medic concluded: "Using a pair of nail clippers must have caused excruciating pain, even if he had had a few drinks beforehand."

Making Suggestions: Is it worth it?
Posted: 6/28/2009 7:41:48 PM
I'm going to guess not

Frind is aware of his site's flaws but isn't eager to fix them. "There's no point in making trivial adjustments," he says. Frind's approach -- and the reason he spends so little time actually working -- is to do no harm. This has two virtues: First, you can't waste money if you are not doing anything. And second, on a site this big and this complex, it is impossible to predict how even the smallest changes might affect the bottom line. Fixing the wonky images, for instance, might actually hurt Plenty of Fish. Right now, users are compelled to click on people's profiles in order to get to the next screen and view proper headshots. That causes people to view more profiles and allows Frind, who gets paid by the page view, to serve more ads. "The site works," he says. "Why should I change what works?"

Frind has resisted adding other commonly requested features, such as chatrooms and video profiles, on the same grounds. "I don't listen to the users," he says. "The people who suggest things are the vocal minority who have stupid ideas that only apply to their little niches." Instead, Frind has focused his energy on making the site better at matching people. When a member starts browsing through profiles, the site records his or her preferences and then narrows down its 10 million users to a more manageable group of potential mates. "Users never see the whole database," Frind says. "It gets smaller and more focused on what you're actually looking for." In other words, if you tell Plenty of Fish you want to date blond nonsmokers but spend all your time gawking at nicotine-addled brunettes, the program will adjust. "People think they know who the perfect person is, but that's not always who they really want," he says. Frind estimates, based on exit surveys, that the site creates 800,000 successful relationships a year.

Forget everything you thought you knew about forums as the title is misleading.

If you applied the rules to the letter there probably wouldn't be a single post on here worth reading, whether a post or a thread stays is primarily down to a voting system so try not to upset anyone too much ;o)

Oh and English only apparently (even though the site is Canadian and French has an equal status there I believe) so dim siarad Cymraeg OP

Lori wrote earlier in response to my comment

I honesty don't understand why so many people are confused when it used to be in BIG BOLD PRINT right on the same page you upload your pics and it's still the number one rule under RULES on the same page. All images MUST contain you, with a visible head shot. In ALL due respect, I don't know what's so hard to understand about the word ALL? That means EVERY single pic you upload, private or otherwise.

And therein lies the problem.

The image upload page contains one set of instructions/rules.

That links to another guideline page.

Then there are the instructions on the image vetting system pages (these only insist on a clear face pic on the main picture and IMHO are the most sensible 'rules' on POF).

And finally there are a set of rules/guidleines within a forum post that people keep getting referred back too.

So that's 4 locations rather than 1 and the information on those 4 pages is contradictory.

The information needs to be harmonised and ideally located in one place.

This would (in all likelyhood) greatly reduce the number of these threads that pop up here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. The whole situation regarding pics on POF is a mess. There's around 3 or 4 sets of contradictory instructions, differing standards and no privacy on 'private' images.
