Guess who's back...
Posted: 1/27/2006 1:15:11 AM
I was thinking about it...

But first... I hear Myron Thompson in Wild Rose has run his last election... I wonder...?!

Naw... I'm not political enough to challenge the seriously determined wannabe politicians who'll line up to take Myron's very safe Conservative riding over. I just think about MP Brian Storseth (Westlock-St Paul), who I grew up with, and KNOW I'm not as politically minded as him... we used to play Shogun against eachother as kids and my superior military and tactical strategy was all too often trumped by his ability to get other players to ally with him!

But then, Anders and Kenney both seem to get re-elected... LOL - Anders is a real mystery to me...

Running as a separatist... hrmmm - it's a few years to the next provincial election so I best get on that post haste to make a good showing!

Matty:
1. I never swore allegiance to Canada's sovereign, the Queen.
2. Look up the word treason ;)

Referendum could come in 2 years in Quebec, depending how the provincial Liberals fare in the next provincial election... seeing as the PQ Liberals seemed to make the appearance of supporting Harper, the actions of the feds over the coming months will play a big role in how the provincial election turns out.

Reading some recent Duceppe quotes, one can see that he's backing down from his typically more aggressive stance in order that the BQ maintains it's appeal with the moderate seperatists.

tcpl:
An astute assesment of the situation which I agree with. :)

arnoldlayne:
Free trade cost a lot of overpaid, unionized jobs when products that could be made more efficiently became available to the market - anyone who doesn't like free trade SHOULD be wholly supportive of ideas like seperatist movements and firewalls. Why? The legislated retention of wealth.

You don't like free trade because it cost jobs.
I don't like Alberta being part of Canada because it costs jobs.

But really, was free trade so bad? The mean cost to purchase many, many items went down - adding some substantial value to our dollar - in effect, giving everyone in Canada a veritable raise! Alberta recovered from NEP so it's a somewhat sad that over a decade of free trade Ontario hasn't been able to adapt (too heavy reliance on the manufacturing industry?)

10 cents is CERTAINLY $0.10, not $0.01

As for 10^2 cents does not equal ($0.10)^2
Let's make it more palatable

Thm: 10^2 cents = ($0.10)^2

We set
x^2 * y = (z * x/100)^2
And
100 cents = $

If x = 10 & y = cents, z = $

So, taking x = 10, y = cents we solve for z

10^2 * cents = (z * x/100)^2
=> 100 * cents = z^2 * x^2 (1/100)^2
=> 100 * 100^2 *cents = z^2 * x^2
=> 1,000,000 * cents = z^2 * x^2
=> 10,000 * cents = z^2
=> z = (10,000 * cents)^(1/2)
=> z = 100 * (cents)^(1/2)
=> z = $ / (cents)^(1/2)

z does not equal $ so
10^2 cents does not equal ($0.10)^2

10^2 cents
= (z * x/100)^2
= ($0.10 / (cents)^(1/2))^2
= ($0.10)^2 * ((1/($/100))^(1/2))^2
= ($0.10)^2 * (10(($)^(-1/2)))^2
= ($0.10)^2 * 100($^(-1/2))^2
= ($0.10)^2 * 100($^(-1))
= ($0.10)^2 * 100/$
= ($0.10)^2 * (1/cents)

something like that

It's also very late

Hell, I used entymology when I should've used etymology... I hope no-one saw

Hrm - let a + b = c

=> 4a - 3a + 4b - 3b = 4c - 3c
=> 4a + 4b - 4c = 3a +3b - 3c
=> 4(a+b-c) = 3(a+b-c)
=> 4 = 3

Chunky? Think you could spare me 2 or 3 cent^2??

And d/dx e^x is certainly differentiable:

d/dx e^x = e^x

And if you want to integrate:

Int(e^x) = e^x + C

...

d/dy e^x ... that's a different story ;)

Disappearing money
Posted: 1/25/2006 11:03:33 PM
I've got a problem...

I've got $1... and, as everyone knows
$1.00 = 100 cents

But, this also means that
100 cents = 10 x 10 cents = 10^2 cents

Unfortunately,
10 cents = $0.10

So, my 10^2 cents becomes:
10^2 cents = ($0.10)^2

So you see, my $1 is really only 1 cent because
$1.00 = 10^2 cents = ($0.10)^2 = $0.01 = 1 cent

The Conservatives will actually form the government in Ottawa.
A Canadian city.
Conservatives with Jason Kenney.
In our capitol.
In Canada.
I did not make this up.

-----

In truth, these Conservatives aren't the Conservatives of old... I think I'd have to undergo a complete frontal lobatomy before I'd vote for any party that Joe Clark supports. Though, I have to give kudos to the Mulrooney Conservatives for taking the neccesary steps (ie. GST, free trade) to eliminate our deficit and even give a nod to Kim Campbell for cutting the Trudeau-esque cabinet composing nearly a full 1/3 of all the MPs in parliament down to a couple dozen - too bad for them that public opinion of those PCs dropped like a rock and our inane electoral system only magnified the situation (remember? the seperatists became the official opposition)

So, Harper was first a liberal; left them because of NEP. Then was an aide to a Mulrooney cabinet minister... bailed on that because of unsound economic policies... lobbied for mroe transparency in political donations... wrote much of the Reform party platform, won a seat for them... left THEM because he disagreed with their leader... then comes on as leader of the second incarnation of Reform after Stockwell Day paraded around too much in wetsuits one summer... convinces the remaining members of the 'other' right-wing party to join up (except for the Liberals masquerading as PCs)... defends his leadership against an eventual Benedict Arnold and her unfornate boyfriend... loses an election... takes down a government... takes down a government a second time because the first time didn't count on a technicality and our governor general was hurridly spending our taxdollars before being traded out with another patronage/francophone appointtee... finally, he gets himself a minority government.

Hmmm.... a good question is whether this new government can get anything done?

And...

- did Matty lose his job yet?

- where are the soldiers with guns in my city? The Liberals promised me soldiers. With guns...

- new Liberal leader: McKenna or Stronach? Wow...

Frank - patronage appointment before the election Paul Martin won to keep the political hotshot from usurping Martin's influence in the party (ie. McKenna CAN be bought) - McKenna went to the States AIMING to piss them off. Expect more anti-Americanism.

Belinda - Daddy built a company... and she managed to not run it into the ground! What an amazing accomplishment! I'd rather Frank than this opportunistic politico! At least he managed to do some useful things with NB's transfer payments before going back to practicing law.

Hmmm.... very political post.... but, my ban was untimely... I'm off a trolling!

WOAH!!! LOL

Here is the full quote

LOL... having a kid is awesome - I can see that it will ferret out some real ignoramuses.

I'm looking, but I don't see anywhere where I say that Camie Creative is an ignoramus.

Hell, I don't even say that there was an insinuation that "people with kids are somehow less than people" (which is a contradictary statement I'm pretty sure I wouldn't make)

If you're not sure what I'm alluding to, just ask. It's easy:

What do you mean by 'ignoramuses'?

My response would be:

Those who would group people with children in the same category as people who are alcoholics or 'players'. To some (such as myself) this is equivalent to me saying:

"It is so hard to find someone who isn't from Edmonton or a holocaust denier or has a handicap"

This is not an appropriate grouping, for what should be obvious reasons - being from Edmonton has nothing to do with the choice made for the second 'unsavory' characteristic or the inability to make the choice for the third characteristic.

edit: People are more than welcome to their preferences... the POFer ability to extrapolate without logical connectives never ceases to astound me, I should say.

It should involve alot of cooking and cleaning; slaving away in the kitchen doing dishes because a dishwasher costs money - nothing wrong with using your hands... and dinner should be on the table on time, damnit! Beds made, house clean... etc etc.

LOL!

I'd really rather a mod edit out the 'self-promoting' parts of my posts, but it's really quite humorous to see how some people deal with posts...

Check out: http://forums.plentyoffish.com/898384datingPostpage16.aspx

I guess the self promotion part came when I defended the flaming I was getting from tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum with a little insight into my life... was it my talking about all the wonderful things I did with my son that prompted the complaint? Is it OFFENSIVE that I dare talk about my son? Anyways, nothing like censorship in a debate, LOL - way to show me!

Note to moderator:I can understand if you want to delete this post too; really, I do... if it's going to stop some anal-retentive ignoramus from sending you complaints - DELETE THIS POST; hell, give me a little forum ban too so I won't be tempted to write down some more juicy tidbits that fly over their heads... I can use the heaps of spare time I'll have to watch CSI or something (you'd know what I'm talking about if you read the thread... but don't - it's a waste of your time... just delete this and move on)... and have yourself a Merry Christmas.

PS - Sorry about the use of markup... had to make sure they'd have something good to complain about; at least I didn't break the layout... well, not really!

I don't believe in karma one bit - you make your own future, and whatever perceived wrongs that you've incurred have nothing to do with how things will turn out. The 'failed union' is what I had to do to convince my ex to not have an abortion - so, the union was actually quite successful. The only aspect of the past that we need worry about is whether we're able to learn from it.

I'm somewhat surprised we haven't seen some real griefers sweep through here... seeing as how easy it is to break the layout (which is pointed out in the follow-ups to the second article).

One thing is certain, though, being free certainly helps out this site... but the simplicity of use likely gives it an edge. If you take a look at the profiles at myspace.com (which, as far as I can tell, is free also), the amount of time that people seem to be putting into their profiles seems a bit much.
