Texting while driving is now a crime in my state of Rhode Island. The fines aren't very large but they increase with more offences. It has been shown in more than one study that anything other than paying full attention to the road is distracted driving and handsfree phones are as bad as hand held. As a full time cyclist I am scared by the lack of concern exhibited by drivers for anything more than three feet from their bumpers. I also have a hard time seeing every other cop yapping away on a cell phone while driving.

Again why would someone advocate for removing something that works and was in place for almost thirty years? It was not in the document as were many other things were not in it like food and drug safety. If you look at the translation I posted which was the official translation from the Nuremberg Trials. Point 14. states heavy industries. I trust the War Crimes Tribunal translation more than the loose one quoted by Halftimedad.

I'll try again to 'splain it to you. In Germany there was and had been for many years a national single payer insurance. There was no nationalised health industry, this system has worked in germany for over a hundred years. It wasn't advocated by Hitler or the NSDAP because it was already in place and no one would think of gettting rid of it, ask anyone who has national health insurance if they want american style for profit health care. I wouldn't call that a failure. And maternity centers ohh nooo wouldn't want that no siree, no pre-natal care for you. And heaven forbid you make a kid get outside and have gym class. As far as the sharing of profits from HEAVY industry this is taken to mean taxes on the steel, chemical, aircraft and ship building type companies. Point 25 is actually about giving the federal government more say in matters of state over the individual states of Germany which like the US has both big and small states but without the balance provided by having the senate and house of reps. The only lemming here seems to be you adventurelyin' as I do not ascribe to any political party or belief system. All I read from you is the usual talk radio drivel, oops! I guess you would prefer ditto head over lemming. As far as free care in hospital goes, if one doesn't have insurance and goes to the emergency room as I have to due to a preexisting condition of cancer. You don't get good care and it's not free, the hospital takes a loss and charges everyone else more to pay for it. And unfortunatly many of those illegal's children happen to be american citizens by right of birth. Which I oppose completely and I would like to see all the illegals gone from our shores. But as long as republicans hire 'em and democrats count on their childrens votes it'll never happen. And the American conservatives don't care enough for their country to be likened to the NSDAP, american conservatives are far too greedy to be nationalists.

It was organised by a conservative "tea bagger" libertarian and featured the usual holistic"alternative medicine" and austism nuts. The only MD to speak is an "alternatve medicine" doctor. Like I said Adventurelyin' there is nothing in the original document about nationalizing health care because Germany had this from Bismark more than twenty years before the NSDAP issued their document. I guess you can't read, Halftimedad has put it up again as I as did on the last page. What is it like to be so uninformed and uninterested in the truth. It never ceases to amaze how many people walk through life with their head up their a$$. You did not post what was written in 1920 just some BS some other dumba$$ put up on a website.

Adventurelyin probably never saw the original document and just paraphrased something he read somewhere. It didn't take long to find the real translation and see the twisting and simplification of the ideas to make them seem reasonable (remove the anti-semitism).

So I take it that no one has read the real document that I posted. Typical. OK I'll do it your way. "Nationalization of healthcare" -Already done by Otto Von Bismark after the unification of Germany well before WW1 and not on the original document. -"Expanded all age insurance"- It says old age pensions. -"Guaranteed jobs for everyone"- It says people have a responsibility to work, nothing about guaranteed jobs -"Prohibition of child labor"- This is to encourage children to spend with their mothers and family. -"The abolition of incomes unearned by work (making money off of finance)" - Not in original document in the original it is about rent gouging called rent salvery and was aimed at jews who owned apartment buildings and other rental property. -"Government takeover of department stores"- Not in original document in the original it refers to war profits and military industries also large warehouses not department stores. -"Nationalization of all corporations and trusts"- This also refers to war industies and is tied to the above section. -"Profit sharing in all major industries"- The original states a share in HEAVY industrial profits for the state AKA taxes. At the end Hitler clarifies that he is talking about the Jews and that the NSDAP is for private ownership as long as you're not a Jew or foreigner.

Well this is interesting. I'll take a shot. I have been writing songs and learning covers for a long time. For me and I don't think I'm all that different from others, it is easier if I write the words down from listening to a record if I'm learning a cover tune as opposed to buying the sheet music. When I write a song I still have to learn it and sometimes it takes a while. I have to practice the song many times to make sure I can get through it every time. The music acts as a memory aid for me and I can sing along with hundreds of songs while they play but can't just sit there and and remember the lyrics off the top of my head. So I think for me the auditory stimulation is greater than the visual but the writing of the words makes tthe learning of them quicker. I'm sure Late may have some thoughts on this if he wants to comment.

We demand land and territory (colonies) for the sustenance of our people, and colonization for our surplus population. 4. Only a member of the race can be a citizen. Whoever has no citizenship is to be able to live in Germany only as a guest, and must be under the authority of legislation for foreigners. 6. Ok Rax why don't you add up all the FICA deductions from every check you got for working and I bet that within six years you will have gotten everything you ever paid back. I know what I paid in FICA witholding back when $5.00 an hour was a good wage and minimum wage was $2.65 we paid peanuts into the system. Every time I hear some old geezer whine " I paid all my life" I just have to laugh. You are on the dole, If you get SSI and the minimum I hear from people I know on it is $700 a month plus medicaid to the tune of thousands. A person burns through whatever they paid in rather quickly and now you are living on the tit of current workers. As for the outragious sum you quote your cousin's practice paid I have a block of salt with me the rates I am seeing today are in the ballpark of $50,000 a year for a general surgeon. Even multiplied by six that's only $300,000 a year. So I'd guess that $4 million is a wild exageration on your part. I found numerous articles and studies showing that there is no decrease in rates when there is tort reform. The best way to lower malpractice insurance rates would be for doctors not to kill 98,000 patients a year ( National Institute Of Medicine. And learn how to spell if you want me to not call you a dimwit.

Tort reform is a red herring offered up by the big business republicans. Medical malpractice settlements make up a small percentage of all jury awards. And like a conservative racist who's little girl is impregnated by an undesirable that runs to the abortion clinic, you would sue the pants off a doctor who botched your care. Medicare for all who do not have insurance is a good plan for the US then we can compete with the rest of the industrialised countries who have it. If you read my post I said retirement pay and the GI bill, I did not mention disability pensions that have been paid out since the continental congress authorized them in 1776 to promote enlistment. As for your claim of no GI bill I say bull$hit there has always been a GI bill since 1944 , it was revamped in the fifties and sixties and if I'm not mistaken by your age you fall under the Montgomery 1984, According to what I've found and I knew alot of this already as I said I've been surounded with the military all my life. If you didn't take advantage of the education benefits and VA guaranteed house loan that's not my problem I know plenty of guys who did. Maybe that hundred bucks a month buy in was too much for you. you might not have made E-4.

OK GI joke. I have spent my entire life within a few miles of the military and the the first ninteen years of my life being carted around as navy dependant. A great many of my friends are are retired military and I have worked on the base and had girlfriends whose fathers were ranked from Marine Corps general, Navy Captains, Commanders and Lt. Commanders. I sat at their tables and discussed many times what is what. I have had housemates who were active duty navy and been in music groups with them I know of which I speak. Just what part of my post did I get wrong?

No offence but any joker who served is going to have a knee jerk rightwing slant. I have never seen the Huffinton Post nor do I belong to any underground Democrat club. Hey GI joes why don't you look at who you owe for the GI bill and VA and retirement pay, you'll find out that it's the Democrats that voted you these things not the Republicans, they didn't want to pay no more stinking taxes.

In my city we actually have a gay cop that likes little boys but they have a "police officers bill of rights" that shields him and other bad cops from procecution. One of our cops left a bar $hitfaced drunk drove off and hit a bus and a navy police car, no charges at all. seems the old blue wall just covered it right up.

Then what part of the tanakh do you throw away? The crazy old testament stuff? I see that you have also fallen back on the old "without religion there is no morals" bit. I'm afraid there isn't any meat on that horse. Humans are just as capable of heinous behaviour whether they believe or moral behaviour if they don't. Getting along is animal nature and we are just another species, all the great apes and monkeys live in relatvely moral groups.

Beliefs are superstitions, knowlege is fact based and atheism is not a belief system or dogma. That someone likes to think they have an imaginary friend does not make their's real or others false. What part of I think religion is a coping mechanism didn't you get? There is no hell to burn in, there is no river Styx, there is no Olympus or Valhalla. All religions serve the same two purposes a) a way of explaining the unknown and b) a profitable way of controlling people. It is not envy in my analogy but getting a fair share you know "pie in the sky when I die". Mass delusion and a desire to fit in make this possible. again I have to deal with someone taking a bit of my post out of context and trying to say I'm insecure when you are ready to beleive in something made up out of whole cloth. That is insecurity. All religions all the world over and all through time are for the same purpose to comfort the weak minded, sick and ignorant for profit and control of resources. They are all equal and deserving of the same treatment as any fables or allegories to renforce good behaviour and group bonding.

If I may so bold as to intrude on your party. A little history lesson is in order. First off the English colonists were not serfs and were in no danger of becoming such. All colonies had different charters that spelled out their form. Most were companies formed to make a profit, The original Plymouth colony was an accident they were trying to get to Virginia. They were looking to have free practice of their form of puritanism. They also had a fair relationship with the natives the later arrivals the Massachusetts bay colony didn't take their rights very seriously. It was Roger Williams founder of Providence Plantations who said that the natives should be compensated for the land and treated them with respect Rhode Island and Providence Plantations purchased their lands from the Narragansett indains and maintained good feelings untill King Phillips war even then the indians didn't kill any Rhode Islanders. So don't paint with such a broad brush. Secondly Paul Revere was a silversmith and ran a foundery, John Adams was a farmer and lawyer not all merchants but the elite of the colonies. Gagetdoc is right the French and Indian war is the American front of the Thirty Years War, and the parlament was taxing us for our share without a voice in the houses. The main reasons these freedoms are in thhe constitution is becaus they are inshrined in the Rhode Island charter of 1663 which was the first self governing colony in the new world we didn't have a royal governor and did not pay taxes to the crown until the 1760's. The freedom of religion and speech are guaranteed in this document and it is the basis for the US and more than a few of the orginal states constitutions. The fact is that RI wouldn't ratify the constitution without the first ten amendments and was last in 1790. And as a side note as far as I can tell Canada is still a colony of England isn't the Queen on your money, call your courts the crown eh?

That is almost the same as saying there is one guy. I do not believe in any gods at all, of all of the thousands of them over thousands of years of human evolution. I know that humans need to know and if they don't know someone will make something up until we do. There have always been religions put up by men for as long as we have been able to ask "why? how? when? and the inate desire to follow someone who says "this way". That is the sheep analogy and it is a good one we are not solitary animals we can't survive without a group we are weak in the face of nature. My thought is that people need something more because most of us aren't in the chief's or warlord's or king's family and we eat the leftovers so some guy says give me some food and I'll tell you a wonderful story of how everything will be different in the "afterlife" there the king will eat leftovers from you. That $hit is as old as the hills. It has nothing to do with one god in particular. Religion is a coping mechanism for superstitous followers, OOPS! I mean fools.

I am not writing that teachers have the ability to change the system just that they won't tell the truth to the parents. Seeing as how you have little experience in American public schools I don't hold this against you. It has everything to do with the state boards of regents and local school boards. It's just that teachers know better what kids are stupid or bullies that keep other students in fear and hurt their education.

If China surpasses us it is only because the wealthy and corps. helped them, without the collusion of industry the chinese wouldn't own us now. It is only the greed and short-sightednessof the upper class to think that we could give up making things and have the money to buy more things they got cheaply from our "enemies". The downside for the Chinese is that they are intertwined with us and can't pull the plug, like any parasite they can't live without us. We will become a banana republic with no middle class to speak of just a few rich and lots of poor.

I have heard this argument for increased hours for thirty years and think that six weeks of summer vacation is enough. We need at least two hundred days of school. Another way to get better results would be for teachers to tell the truth about how many pupils are not cut out for more than eighth grade educations and should be in trade shops, the service industry or farm laborers. The idiocy of trying to stuff ten pounds of education into a five pound bag has bothered me since the dumb kids beat me up for knowing the answers in class. The social promotion of underachievers is a major cause of lower test scores and should be stopped. Stupid and anti social kids should be segragated from smart ones so the best can advance without fear. We are one of the only industrialized nations to throw our smart poor kids away. American educators are just as good of teachers as any in the world some are dedicated some are lazy that is human nature. All this talk of vouchers and charter schools is just a way for tax crybabies and religious conservatives to gut the public education system and keep the less fortunate stupid and easily led.

Just to get back into it let me say that I have never chased a much younger woman or plied one with cash, gifts ect. I live in the first "playground of the rich" there is a lot of money here and a lot of gold diggers always has been. If I am jaded by it, oh well. My point wasn't to put older women down but that the desires expressed in a lot of profiles are of money it seems to me. I am an older fit guy I ride my bicycles and roller-skate and surf, I don't dance much. Now I don't have any desire for a woman under ten years younger than me (42) and my profile gets viewed at least ten or twenty times a week but rarely does anything come of it because? I don't have money to burn, my interests aren't fine dining and exotic travel, theater and other expensive pursuits? These are women that frequently share interests like cycling or skating or classic films, so what is it if not the dough? So what if some guy sports young'un I see it too often to get mad about he's paying she's playing . It's all prostitution in the end, the one who wants the other one more pays. And any woman who thinks a much younger guy is into them for anything other than easy Pu$$y is crazy, I was young once too. I would love to have another PARTNER who is down to earth and I keep on waiting and I hope she is in my generation, because 25 year olds are a pain to train.

HaLapid Give me a break with the "they are intimidated" crap. I am not in the least bit afraid of any woman and what she has as far as looks or money or relative success in life. I scoff at anyone who thinks a college degree is some how any indication of superior intellect. Why do you gals think this stuff? It's lke the welfare mamas and their "you jus' jealous" on the Springer show. The real reason I had a 20 year old girlfriend when I was 45 is she chased me and she cost the same as a 45 year old to take out. The moral of the story is "why buy the cow when the calf costs the same?". I have no trouble going out with a woman my age but they seem to have unreal expectations and an inflated sense of self worth.

Yes my city is safe for bikes although there are no bike lanes and I will fight them if any are proposed, bike lanes are frequently put in the "door zone" next to parked cars. To all the people that don't understand it, I have a right to the road a whole lane not the gutter or the sidewalk in my state it is illegal to ride on it after 12 years old. I know about idiots riding the wrong way and without lights I also know about idiots who claim some devine right to the road because they have a car or truck. I'm sorry to tell you but bicycles have a right to the road and have had that right before cars were around. I'm glad I don't live in Florida it has the highest death rate for bikes. The problem is that everyone thinks they are the most important person in the world and the heavens must make way for their royal a$$ to speed by. I also have no love for the spandex super heros who run stop signs, red lights and generally pi$$ off the drivers. I use my bikes every day winter and summer rain or sun, snow and ice. All I want is what is due me. And before we hear the old "You don't pay for the road"BS I pay property taxes the same as everyone else and that is what pays for the roads.

I can see why you put quotes around "road tax" it is because it isn't a road tax at all just your registration fees for transfering your plates and what in my state are classified as property or exise taxes, like sales tax it is based on the value of your vehicle it's only 4% , in my state there is a fee as well as a tax to register a car. This tax has nothing to do with road use per se and the money goes to the DMV. The fact that fools are trying to say this is some sort of wealth redistibution boggles my mind. BTW I have the state of LA. motor vehicles info up on another screen right now, it seems you will have to pay a parish tax on your vehicle as well just like in my city in RI. The roads are paid for from state, parish and local city and town funds along with federal highway grants.

Never mention B. Dylan and Phil Ochs in the same sentence they'll start fighting. Phil wasn't a fan of Dylan and thought he was not direct enough. I know Canadians make up a good portion of this site but why Leonard Cohen? He wasn't very political, I found him rather boring still do. I thought I exposed that the counter culture lip service to real change in society as such. Please stop perpetuating a common mistake that these kids cared about anything except avoiding the draft and getting laid.

Thanks Rory for the props. Phil Ochs is my favorite unsung hero of the 60's. A man who influenced me more than I realized at the time. I wouldn't be the songwriter I am today without his unvarnished truth telling style. I prefer songs that get to the point without needing an english degree to decipher and I'm sure that he would point to Woody Guthrie and say the same thing I did. As I wrote in my second post "music flows from one musician to another" you can't just chop it up in easy to digest bits.

Sorry Diva, but the Digeridoo is an austrailian aboriginal wind instrument just to clarify. For a while there it seemed pretty popular with the college kids
