Ethnicity, Sex, Religion even income - all distinct on profiles - Should Politics be included?

I wonder if POF Admin will take account of the views raised?

It would appear that political views, if important, should be within the main profile body however, there are tweaks required regarding sexuality to include bi-sexuals and also pets...

I agree that, to some people (with or without allergies) pets are important - or as important as any child... So, should their be an additional statement with an open box perhaps - a type of text box towards the reader who scans the profile.... "Additional Information" this could cover a multitude of sins... i.e. must be willing to relocate, I am deaf, I am blind, X, Y or Z is important...

I didn't think so many views would be raised by this - especially the sexuality box!

J001 - It's true you may be limited by being a smoker or not - but at least it's an option which stands out.

925dancer, you have as, I've mentioned, a valid point where sexuality is important and saves people having two profiles... Though, I'm straight - there are male and females that I know who aren't... Doesn't bother me, I'm comfortable in my own skin and also comfortable in knowing gay and lesbians and being in their circles too.

23xkaTiEx - It's a very important thing in the states - but, you're right it could also be in a longer term relationship too... What to do with money, what to buy and not to buy could all follow political choice - especially if they use money for canvassing etc... I like watching the news but, I wouldn't say I subscribe to a definite political view...

Mitzi - If someone is living in a hostel I'm not sure I'd have them move in straight away lol.... There are many types of hostels from battered wives, to homeless and not just criminal which is where most people's thinking lies... But it's a valid point for discussion and thought.

As for needing a sat nav in the bedroom department, I have an e-stim and violet wand if that helps hahaha... and a book called the joy of six for****letslicks

All the above comments in this thread have certainly opened my eyes.... Though - isn't everything political these days?

SJS you raise yet another interesting point - multiple profiles.

Call me nieve - though my name is David - but, I felt it wrong that people should have multiple profiles... though, I can see why as so many options are catered for ... Yet, you dont' have the ability to correct an incorrect survey unless you delete your profile....

What do we expect from a 'free' site lol...

I suppose politics could be put in to the text of your profile - but... couldn't that be said of everything?

Interesting views so far....

Jo - predictible but... I guess that depends on your sexuality... which leads me to Posh...

I think you're right Posh, I think it's a useful box to have - it appears on other sites and, I have often wondered if some of the women I've met are really looking for guys or dolls.

As for willingness to relocate and having lived in the States and divorced and American, that's not something I thought about... However, they are big on the Democrates v Republican political divide over there! It's not as open, as varied and ignored as it is over here.

Your views are appreciated - anymore out there?

It's interesting that a lot of the posts are political... Everyday we come across events, either locally or in the news to which a view from one of the major political parties has been commented on or a smaller party or interest group has brought to the fore.

Therefore, along with sex, race and religion - should POF have a box for political persuasion or does it not matter at all? Agnostic/Conservative/Green/Labour/Liberal/Monster Raving Looney/National Front ... along with many other large and small interest groups

It is a topic that is included on some American profiles - what about United Kingdom profiles?

Each of the boxes so far can help us judge the type of person we are seeking - I've thought of politics as a missing area - are there any other areas which should be included?

DT77...

You make a good point = also, slightly expanding on location... which country, I guess that helps - though with my ex-wife being an American, I don't think it was too much of an issue with me.

Appreciated

I think... if one of the two people - if chatting on the phone or via mail - gets the idea they'd like to meet the person... whether 1 or 100 communications have passed... bite the bullet and go for it.

Be honest - tell them you'd like to meet - the likelyhood is that, if they're genuine - they'd accept.

Hannah...

It's pretty much like any other party/disco at a club...(only this is at a hotel) with the difference that we are all members of a singleton's website... Therefore, the chances that the guy you "like" or "watch" at the party being single is higher than if you met anywhere else.... It has both a private and a public bar, tables to sit at in the area of the disco or, more quietly to get to know people, away from the noise - indoors .. a smoking/rest area outside and is easily accessible for everyone, including less abled people.... People are of all ages from 18 to ... well, the majority I would say are under 50 - or at least look under 50!!

I've been going to them for just over a year now in Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Stratford and the last time in Northampton.... The hosts make the nights special by meeting and greeting - by welcoming visitors from first-timers like yourself to those who have been before. Though, I'm slightly unusual in that I find it difficult to speak to people - especially for the first time... which is why I go to the POF parties - because the hosts are so welcoming and respectful of people's feelings too! Most will introduce you to others ... if you ask them to.

If it's your first POF party, feel free to take a friend along or to meet with people you've been chatting to or emailing... Alternatively, feel free to contact the host directly Fitnessfirst is a gent who will answer any of your questions - or you can contact any of the women who post messages... (from previous Northampton parties) After all, they've all been in your position before... I bet without exception you will find the response (even to the daftest of questions) repectful and honest as well as helpful. I just go along to dance, it is at least exercise for me, even if badly done!

Good luck, happy fishing and... a walk starts with the first step - so, why not make the Northampton party your first?

This is a similar question to a lot ... for example, how soon after contacting should people meet....

I'm grateful for any contact... email, chatting at the POF parties... to be honest - I'm not very good at small talk... IT's very easy to hide behind a computer and keyboard.... But I will explain why I'm grateful for any contact...

I get emails saying "what was the Derby... Nottingham... Northampton... meets like" and "have you been to others"... not a bad opening gambit ... and thinking they may be interested in me as well I respond - only to find out they were only asking about the parties - not me!

For me, I take a woman contacting me as - exciting and makes whatever she asks within the email a reasonable request... I'd say 99% are respectable... though, sadly for me, few are interested in me for who I am... it's not sad. I'm glad women think they can approach me and ask me any question... and I've always replied as honest as I can... whatever the topic or interest.

On the other hand - when I've contacted women - 60% ignore - even to the point of deleting without reading (it shows that they are shallow and inconsiderate of anyone's feelings)... having said that ... I TOTALLY RESPECT anyone woman who emails - saying thank you - but you're not my type... becuase it saves time and... is honest.

So... go ahead - if you like the guy - DO IT!! .... I'm sure that they will respond in a kind and generous way - whatever your contact with them is.

Good luck and happy hunting

Interesting responses so far:

Loose end.....
1) A large chest
2) A smoker
3) A large chest

Should I be surprised here?

Gucci Girl....
Well OP how many minutes did you allow yourself on mine?
About 5 minutes because your profile was a longer one than normal... but for a first date - your expensive when it includes a flight to the USA - then a ride Central Park - by carriage!

Trixie - I have to agree, there are a lot of shallow people around - but, sadly - that's life - hence asking the opening question... That way it gives people a chance to "target"" their profile?

Swanky-lad - I used to consider age but... having been out with and having friends who (yes, they are daughters of my good friends) take me to "clubs" (that's discos to those of my generation) I do not see age as being a barrier ... for me at least. But, I respect your opinion and it is noted... may be as a relationship it would be an issue.

Adele G - two options I didn't consider... spelling (as some do write in Text Speak) and proximity... possibly because my ex was from the USA, I've never considered distance. Thank you... for raising both for my consideration and possibly for others - it seems elles-belles and hunnibelle (even though she's easily pleased) agree with you.

Mizphitz - interesting you point out that you seek out the photo as number one... though, I fully understand why some people don't place their photograph on here.

POSH... well, after meeting you and your family at the Stratford meet... and seeing your son "pull" his teacher (FOR A DANCE... READERS).... I find your comments appropriately amusing but... you're just a spring chicken too!

sjxx - You're just a minx!!

Billy GA - I won't ask to which number 4 was referring to .... but guess it to mean height!

Thanks you all.... so far - it's given me a great deal to think about - and all of it is respectfully appreciated

Hi to all...

This will be my second... such was the success of my first Northampton meet... I recommend it to anyone who's a virgin - well, not exactly a virgin - more of a first-time POF party-goer.

The host, as was everyone I met, very friendly and cordial ... making the night very successful.

Should anyone need a lift from the North Leicester area, drop me a line

Good luck with this event FF.

We all scan profiles for a few moments which will coincide with our preconceptions of people we have met, past and present.... But, what makes us decide to contact or ignore someone...?

In my case, I look for attractiveness, for sure, if I only look at picture profiles - but, then I know I'm not good looking.... So, I don't always look at just the photograph - plus, how many times have you seen the "iconic" picture in searches change completely when you visit someone's profile?

So, my three things are...

1 - Beauty - not just outer but also inner... is their cup half full? Sure, it helps if there is more than one blurred photograph to get a better opinion... The photograph helps grab my attention as does the tag-line ... giving me the desire to see more....

2 - Life and Laughter - I love humour and am pleased if I actually see it within a profile... so, length here really does matter - because it gives me a better perception and idea of the person... including compatibility.. a longer profile than one sentence shows the person has made an effort to express themselves.

3 - Open-mindedness and profile... How many times do people state they are looking for "anyone" then.... put a long list of restricting people who can contact them... meaning they are not just looking for "anyone"... isn't honesty a worthwhile trait anymore? I'd sooner see in a profile that they want someone over 6ft and know where I stand - about 5 inches short!

How long do I spend on a profile? In the first instance about 2-3 minutes... then, if someone views my profile, I return - and spend longer to see if there's some hope of a star in a universe of singletons.

What are your views?

Surely, it only matters that, after contact, you both feel comfortable and secure in meeting?

Honesty really is the best policy - if you don't feel it's right... say so - sure, truth can upset/hurt but lies can destory.

I've met people after one message - and it's turned out to have an enduring friendship - even if it's not a close personal or sexual relationship .... just because the sparks weren't there.... At other times, I messaged beyond a dozen times, chatted for a couple of months - met them and again the sparks weren't there.... nor was the friendship. So, was that time wasted?

Hell, no...

We are individuals and - every message - gets the same treatment... respect, honesty and trust - loose one of them and it's damn nigh impossible to get it back... no matter how long you've known the person.

I wish you all the very, very best of luck - go with your head and your heart.... If in doubt... ask them an obscure question about themselves.... right it down - and ask it again sometime later... if the answer matches - they're relatively truthful - if you get a totally different answer.... then you can formulate your own opinion.

Blessings and the very best of luck in life and fate

pre-marital sex? your thoughts
Posted: 11/2/2009 9:16:03 AM
Pre-marial sex....

I like the sofa idea....

However, it takes two people... ME? I always wait for the lady to make the first move or contact... if it's a hug and I like her then I will respond in favourable terms... If it's a direct question - then always answer it honestly...

Sure, honesty can hurt if you don't like the person or the chemistry isn't there but... lies can destroy more than trust, they can destroy the person.

I'm a single male - and things are different for males of my age group - it's more natural for younger people to 'test the water' and sleep around... women, incorrectly get a poor name by society's rules..

I say - "sod the rules!!!" Let's just get-on and do what comes naturally - whatever, wherever and whenever that is!!! Rocking around the Christmas tree is one thing... Frolicking around the bedroom can still be magical.... even more so, if it's under the stars and alongside a river running through a mystical wood.

Why talk about it ..... just do it

It doesn't really matter whether you meet after on message or 20 - it's whatever is right and comfortable for both of you... even more so, in the days we live in - for the lady.

You could message someone once - and meet up at a POF party - therefore, one message is appropriate. Alternatively, you could be messaging for some time because of circumstance, nervousness or politeness... Trust in yourself, if in doubt ask... coffee can really mean coffee... Go with your head and your heart.

If you meet up in a pub or somewhere busy - then you will always have something to chat about... even if it's only people-watching or the decor and area, at least you'll be able to break the ice and then sneak in the personal questions you've been dying to ask without fear.

Good luck and best wishes

Posted: 10/28/2009 3:34:20 PM
I will look forward, as I always do, to another event organised by your goodself BB...

Just one small point, I know we've just dressed up for Halloween... but the 11th is nearer Halloween than Christmas.... It's my guess that you're going to be there as Father Christmas and have presents for us all.... Large Bottle of Southern Comfort, or a single lady with a pint of massage oil, please Santa - I've been a good boy!! (Heard no complaints)

The rest can leave their own list for your presents... as they choose!

On a serious note, if anyone is single and shy (I hide on the dancefloor), I can seriously recommend these parties (Nottingham and Derby) as welcoming, friendly parties where people are made welcome and are respected. So, come one, come all - first time or not - and sign up for another great night out! (Cheap booze too - pity I ALWAYS have to drive!!)

Some great outfits - especially yours! Perhaps, yes, you should have waiting until after 10.15 lol - perhaps we should start it then? haha It was great to see the smiles on people's faces and everyone enjoying themselves

A ghostly hallllooooooowwww to you all...

It will be my first POF in Northampton - and alone so, be gentle with me - though, I often go to the Derby and Nottingham ones (despite being Leicester based)... thought, I'd see what the 'southerners' have to offer

I'm travelling on my own from Leicester and have room for one, if that's of any help - returning same night, drop me a line

Will probably dress up - that way I can 'hide' behind the mask - after all, it's Halloween and being shaped like a pumpkin - it's my time of year!! LOL

Have fun, see you there ....

Well, BB ... thanks, yet again, for organising another party at Halo.

Myself and my friendly "bouncers" had a great evening, it was good to meet some new people and also to catch up with some old friends. It may have taken nearly two years but, I'm finally starting to talk to some people - nerves but, I'm learning and starting to enjoy it! Still hiding on the dancefloor though - think I need to bring a spare shirt!!

Looking forward to the next one's in Derby etc!!

I know there's a lot of people out there, like me who really appreciate the time and effort you put in to making these nights a success...

Thanks again

Derby Zanzibar Party. Friday September 4th. Images & Comments

I will say this..

I have been to a large number of POF functions organised by BB, (as well as others i.e. Mushy Pea etc) and being honest, I will admit to having an issue at one of them where... two females decided to be less than lady-like towards male members (as I wasn't the only one).

However, when this issue was raised (and with other people's issues when raised) I can only praise BB's action - he has acted swiftly in response, always been fair, polite and honest - when there's an issue of responsibility to be taken, he hasn't shyed away from it.

This is what makes the POF functions worthwhile for old and newcomers alike - it's why the functions have been successful for so long... and why I have returned to the Derby ones as well as Nottingham etc.

It is my own knowledge that tells me not all POF parties are so well organised and attended... and no matter how well you organise something there will always be hiccups...

To end, I cannot thank nor praise BB highly enough for his attention to detail in arrangements and resolutions.

Thank you, very much - again BB and long may you continue organising them!!

As for Derby - it was a brilliant night... not just for my guest and myself but for many others we came across

LOL.... Thanks for the kind and over generous words babygirlcharly but.... it was an 89p night and... you did agree with me that your sister had drunk a lot and.... should have gone to specsavers for choosing me to dance with... And, her name wasn't Charity but... she is a very charitable young lady.... and, yes as I said ... she was drunk too...

The two of you looked great... even without the cute "cat make-up" too.

Kelly, thanks for being my bodyguard and also for helping make the evening a fantastic one... appreciated your company. Next time it is 89p - we'll get a taxi or the bus lol....

Trucker... I'm glad you enjoyed your evening and found the night to your liking and I, for one, will be wishing you all the best with your new friendship/relationship - hope to see the both of you at the next one...

Meeting old and new friends made last night a very memorable Derby meet and I thank you all for that..... Roll on July 4th!!

Well.... I'd like to thank those who made it a great evening for me.... especially those who graced the dancefloor with me... such charity!!! It's very much appreciated.

Thanks Barbelbil, for arranging yet another great party....

Now, get off your butt and arrange a Nottingham one - It would seem that, the credit crunch had arrived - but, with drinks so cheap - I've only one question.....

Why the hell did I chose to drive!!!!!

Thanks again to everyone and I will look forward to seeing the pics etc on the next post

Duran Man....

If you and your friends were being honest and preparing to come to the meet you would have read the post on the sign-up where you would clearly see - prior to the meet - that the organisers weren't at fault ...

WALKABOUT PULLED THE PLUG the night before - it's not professional, it's a recession and certainly NOT THE WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS.... It led to a lot of anger, disappointment and a loss of future business.

On my part, I too have been to a few Nottingham and Derby meets... and found them all to be well attended - sure, I may not have enjoyed every one of them as much as the one's I do enjoy - but that's not down to the organisers but me! It's up to me to make the effort to enjoy the evening.

If your friends had made themselves known to the organisers, they would have apologised as they did to me.

I can only ask you this ... if the organisers had pulled the plug on an event you organised the day before - would you still turn up, in fancy dress at that location - to notify any who turn up? Help them, and go round the town with others - all in fancy dress? The organisers of this event did!! Which is more than can be said for most organisers who - on an event being cancelled, whatever the reason, don't turn up at all!

I enjoyed the evening because the people - who weren't my friends - that I chose to stay with and who had, like me, turned up without knowing it was cancelled - put the effort in and the dozen or so of us enjoyed the evening..... may be not as much - but I met some new friends that night!!!

Lesson - think, before you write especially when the organisers DID WARN PEOPLE - secondly.... I've learned by the posts on the sign-up... to read the sign-up screen just before I leave in case there is something wrong - especially with the venue and WHEN I'M GOING IN FANCY DRESS

A big thank you to those people who stayed and welcomed me - I've met some new friends... THANK YOU!

Hi all....

It's surprising - knowing the terms and conditions of people setting up the meet - that anyone should be misguided to ask how much an organiser makes.... Disappointing, knowing that BB makes no monies, he does this out of the goodness of his own desire to make other's happy and... if he finds love then that's a bonus. I sincerely wish BB all the success in the passion stakes as well as in making these meets fruitful and happy.

Those who know me, already know comments that I received in the past - it's human nature - just as many people make happy and positive comments... they aren't always read ... Any negative comments (knowing BB) would be listened to and ... if honest and constructive wouldbe actioned upon.

As yet, with only one negative evening - I can say that the 90% positive meets override any negativity!!

See you all at the meets... can't wait!! Polishing my dancing shoes already!!

Take care all and... bring a friend too

Finding the credit crunch limiting your funds and don't know which meets to go for...?

It's good that two Towns in the East Midlands can support POF events and have a great number of friendly people going to them...

I'm talking of Nottingham and Derby...

Both of them have great support, often with people visiting from out of the area due to lack of numbers in their town. IF anyone is thinking of going to a meet for the first time, these are meets which I would very much recommend, whether your going alone or with a friend or 5!! Everyone will be made welcome.

It's a testiment to those who organise the meets as well as the clubs themselves.... So, if you're hung up by the credit crunch and find you can only go out, once in a Blue Moon...

Then, let the stars shine and these meets become the centre of your universe, I'm sure you will find yourself on cloud 9!! If not, cloud-hopping is allowed!!

Sorry about the cliches!!

Seriously though, these are friendly and well supported events and I, for one, recommend them to anyone..... still in doubt? Feel free to drop me a line - I've been to a few of them and ask any questions you wish.... I am unbiased as I don't organise them and I will answer them honestly.

So, if you're a virgin - A POF MEET VIRGIN - take the plunge... you may actually enjoy yourself!

Good luck and hope to see you there,

HI all....

Looking forward to going to my first Xmas party of the season... and taking my four bouncers along with me, who have already signed up to go - and I think there's a couple of guest joining us too.

Still looking for someone to take me on the dancefloor... so, feel free to drag me up, if you can stand dancing opposite someone with horizontal epilepsy as amusing as a stuffed ferret on wheels.

Seriously, though - it will be a great night and I am looking forward to starting off this years Christmas campaign with champagne too!!

See you all there - and take care

DERBY HALLOWEEN PARTY. Zanzibar 31st October. IMAGES & COMMENTS

My reason for not continuing was not to take up this forum in a negative way.

But, I wish to clarify a couple of points - the rest will happen in a private email to you - for your greater understanding.

I have advised that anyone who is nervous through what they've read here take a friend - partly because guests are always made welcome and secondly it will aid them in feeling more comfortable as well as supportive. Alternatively, chat to people here and meet up with those they've chatted to.

Regarding your stats - I think, if I remember rightly - and including the posts here I haven't disrespected anyone or any party - further, I'd say that I've been supportive and only talked, negatively on a personal point. You'll understand more after the email along with the reasons why they're not aired here. In addition to this, I have stressed my support for yourself, your meets and am still attending the Nottingham one. There, sure I will have friends but also breathing space too, as the people who caused the issue, if they read this, they know who they are - have yet to venture over to Nottingham.

Oddly, may be in a weird way, I am glad someone else reported something - it means I'm not alone.

I do want to end, so this thread can move on - and upwards on a more positive note - thanking all those people who have emailed me as well as commented here. My decision not to attend Derby is not one taken lightly or a slurr on the event. Moreover, I would still encourage people to attend, not just Derby but others that BB has arranged because I value the effort, organisation, fun, the atmosphere and the venues (one bad apple doesn't turn the barrel... unless left - this wasn't just left ).

Thanks again to all - you have my respect, my thanks and, most of all my heart too.

Thanks for your kind and very constructive words BB.

Sadly, very sadly, you have pointed out a flaw that this is not an isolated incident. It's sad for two reasons. Firstly, if a male had said the same things to a woman - and I'm not repeating them - those who know me, know my profile to be me - and testimonials to be honest and true... had a male said those things - I, personally feel, there would have been repercussions of a physical, potentially legal and not just an emotional basis.

Sure, honesty hurts - hence my comments here and their comments backed up my own opinion of myself in a stronger fashion - I didn't want to write them, indeed I tried to contact those concerned - via email but POF stopped that... even though I'd never mailed them before so, I had no other way - other than bringing in a third party or using the forum to let them know.

Hence my apologies for raising it here ... at first a bad thing but, now I understand there have been another incident - even one is bad form - more is appauling! There is no way of stopping them because they know - as it's a singles event - how and where to hurt. Bruises disappear.... emotions take time. So, may be raising it wasn't such a bad thing after all.

Secondly, it won't stop me going to the POF events, as you know you organise others - but, it will and has stopped me going to Derby - why because it's Derby? No, not at all - I have friends (I know I don't believe it either lol) who live in and go to the Nottingham one... So, it becomes automatically a friendlier environment and more comfortable for a single guy - who society sees a single male as an 'outside preditor' ...

There will be some of you can work out where and what's been said by this thread because they know me -

The two "ladies" found my achillies heel - by my being honest in my profile and my views on posts etc. I don't know how it came about, knowingly - I haven't met or upset anyone on here.... and if I had - I'd have been the first to apologise and/or put things right.

A solution was put to me earlier - as changing my profile - that then would be letting them win - leaving POF is still an option but, again it's letting them win..... But they won't - I pity them that they have obviously been hurt by other males to the point that they group together for a less than noble reason!! My baggage was taken away by a convoy of removal vans!! I will remain honest and true - not to anyone else but to myself... I am not a player - as you all probably realise - instead I'm a human being!

No -if they think it's going to change me, they are very sadly mistaken - if people don't like me, they may have to breath the same air in a room but they don't have to converse and share the their thoughts and opinions without theirs being sought.... Respect is a two way thing - they've lost mine - but no one else has - I respect all the rest who attended and including those who have read this thread and have also responded - and mailed me - to those I am indebted to - thank you.

I am fully aware I'm a little short on the social skills but... I'm not scared of failing... so, I will keep trying however, if anyone knows the magic formula then... let me know

To anyone else .... new to the site or not - considering this thread and wondering if they should go to a meet - my advice would be to go - 100% however, if you're not sure about going alone - wait and take a friend with you... and share what can be a wonderful, friendly and enlightening experience which can start you on the social path again.

Take care all and thank you - this is my last comment here - I've taken up enough of your time, thank you all.... and have a great Christmas meet. I'll look forward to seeing you in Nottingham.

To all those wonderful people that have written so many special words - I say thank you, very much.

You will note that, due to the current financial, political and economic climate the Heart4Sale board has been taken down, to save being stuck with negative equity!!

Toasted Marshmallows, may be a little bit ugly, due to being singed - but though they harden, the still remain with a soft, goooey, sweet centre - word of warning though - should anyone think of approaching me with a toasting fork - don't

Nil illigitimi Carborundum.

Thanks again to all for your support, it is much appreciated
