3 scorned women charged with tying up Lover

How many standards have we got operating here. If three guys were to find that they were all seeing the same woman and so kidnapped, her assaulted her (including mutilating her genitals) there would be a bl00dy outcry.
Despite what Gill Scott Heron says, life only [underline]sometimes seems like [/underline]a B movie; need to be able to tell difference.

Did The Government Nationalise The Wrong Institution ?
Posted: 10/28/2008 5:51:13 PM

It was vital to protect a few banks because there are millions of ordinary people who would have lost everything had they folded.

Bullsh*t the money wasn't to protect millions of ordinary people it was to protect the millions of a select few people. Tax payers money yet again being used to underwrite the risks taken by financial capitalists, who have always justified their excessive profits on the basis of the risks they take.

Where is all the money that was wiped off the value of these orgnisations, who's got it?
No one, it never really existed in any real sense; but the value removed by shareholders and paid in bonuses to senior executives will no doubt have been transformed into something more tangible.

It would be interesting to know how many of these bankers were dumping stock in the run up to these collapses...........and are now buying back in at a bargain price?

If WWIII is the result of "ordinary" people waking up to how badly they've been conned over the years, then bring it on.

Doubt it's so much the words as the image they convey. What do you think?
Posted: 10/28/2008 12:00:59 PM

Swearing, drinking, yobbish behaviour, fighting, falling over drunk, slurring words etc

Do men find it attractive in a woman?

How do women feel when they see other women displaying this type of behaviour?

Do you do it and feel any shame?

Does anyone find it attractive in anyone? even in themselves????

Suspension from work advice..
Posted: 9/13/2008 3:24:57 PM
Check your conditions of employment, should have got copy with your contract, if you've lost / thrown it out ask employer for copy of it, or copy of disciplinary procedure. This should detail each step of the process, including your rights to representation. you don't say what size organisation you work for. Generally larger ones will have HR dept. that are fairly conversant with current legislation, less likely to bulldozer you (though they can still be pretty hard nosed they don't want to fall foul of legislation). Small organisations can be a nightmare as they can take what they see as a "common sense" approach, its their ball their rules and if they said you broke them you did.

I'm assuming that you're refering to an internal rather than criminal investigation, in either case you have a right to be told what's happening without recourse to legal representation at this stage.

I'm thinking of becoming a lesbian.......
Posted: 9/12/2008 1:20:39 PM
A friend and I have decided that if when I reach 50 we are both still single then we are going to do the lesbian living together but minus the sex lol. We get on really well and would complement each other perfectly in a relationship... I love cooking, she loves ironing! Sorted.

Well I like eating, and wearing nicely laundered clothes, so if I chip in with the sex we could get a good wee commune going!!!

One of my favourite lesbian stories was of a letcherer at Glasgow Uni. went for gender reassignment became a lesbian then spent most of his time hanging round the women's changing rooms at the gym.

nut allergies
Posted: 9/11/2008 3:22:53 PM

No..No..No..No.. you are so wrong.. poverty is a construct of a society using trading thingies.. like pounds, dollars, pretty shells or shiny pebbles......

You will notice that I said

It's actually called poverty (when talking about the present)

In the past yes, the less robust typically died earlier. This , in part, being due to ignorance; people had little or no understanding of how we worked, or what broke us.

Allergies are on the increase in all economically developed countries. Does this mean that this is somehow a beneficial trait and we are evolving into a hyper sensitive organism?
(there is a thread on here somewhere, think it may be one of the international forums, that discuses the difference between evolution and adaptation)
Personally, I don't think its either. Reckon its more to do with all the chemicals we are increasingly exposing ourselves to. This would suggest that it is something which is going to increasingly become the concern of the majority.

By the way, if you're suggesting that as
. (even dogs communicate)..
this is somehow the equivalent to language, that's
anthropomorphic

Back in the olden days... when a baby wasn't fit for society, it died. (This is still prevalent in the third/fourth etc world countries.) The mother then had another baby and if it wasn't fit then the same happened again until a baby was born that could survive... It is called evolution.

It's actually called poverty (when talking about the present) or ignorance (when talking historically)

Carers of disabled children - What changes need to be made?
Posted: 9/11/2008 2:24:33 PM
Most of us accept that kids are a massive drain on our time and money.

(Someone once described sailing as " standing under a shower in your most expensive suite ripping up tenners" there must be an equivalent for describing the decision to have kids)

However we also expect them to become increasingly independent, even to start contributing in small ways. (Just got my 5 year old a nice wee chimney cleaning job)

Does not always happen with children with disabilities. Should not be difficult to calculate every few years how much extra time a kid was taking up compared to average. (I know that sounds crude and unfeeling, but we could use accountants to do it)
Would seem only fair for the rest of us to chip in to make up at least a proportion of that time.
Just ripped strips of my son for trashing new school shoes in less than a month. (previous record was a week, so feeling lucky). Thankfully, (and I know I'm being flipant but I mean this seriously too) he's continent, can feed himself without making too much of a mess of his clothes, he's a fairly standard shape and size (too bloody big for chimney cleaning now thought damn it!) so can wear standard clothes.

Again this is not the experience of all parents, clothes and other "consumer durables" that just aint durable enough for their particular kid.

I'd rather see some of my tax offsetting some of these extra expenses, rather than bailing out the private investors in Northern Rock etc.

(Next time you loose at the bookies, tell the government they'll reimburse your stake and the profit you had expected to make!!)

if a teacher is not allowed to give medicine

just so I don't rile all Head teachers out there!! Teachers can administer, but only if they have been trained to give injection. Tends not to be feasible to train them all, so there is still some risk re. appropriate teacher being available and time lost searching them down.

(Back of the bike shed having a fag is always a good place to start though!!)

some (especially nut) allergies are very severe leading very rapidly to anaphylactic shock (i.e. can kill you). I know a kid who suffers from this (not a nut allergy in this case). There are all sorts of issues about who when and where adrenalin injections can be given, kids not allowed to carry kit themselves.
Sure most of us would be pissed off if our kid came home in a body bag, cause they shared snack time with wee Johnny the Snickers fanatic.

Reading these posts makes me feel good to be here, lots of opposition to the proposal. The media constantly tell us that Parliament goes against public opinion when they vote against the reintroduction of the death penalty. Does that mean that the posters here are more civilised and humane than the rest of society, or just that the red tops all lie their *rses off?

Government should Cut All Benefits Immediately.
Posted: 9/5/2008 2:40:53 PM
Believe me i would love to get an accountant that will put me on "minimum" wage

Unless I'm very mistaken you get the same tax free allowance as anyone else, in similar circumstances. You then pay the same basic tax as someone on minimum wage for the first part of your salary, and a a slightly increased rate for the remainder. As an overall percentage of your gross income your tax won't be that much different from "minimum wage".
Mr(s)/Ms "minimum wage" then has to spend every penny they earn just to cover basic essentials, shelter, heating and food, most of which they pay more tax on. Can't be bothered working out the likely monthly salary that generates a £2K tax bill, but doubt you need to spend it all. Lots of "tax efficient" savings vehicles out there for the rest.

And yes there is something wrong, how we measure "added value". Don't grudge you or anyone else a living, but do question how we measure (and reward) different contributions.
I've worked in social care for years, many basic grade workers rely on some benefits even after a 39 hour week.
Long time ago I worked in NHS. During strike in early eighties, we used porters as our main weapon. We could put them out on strike , they were the lowest paid workers so the rest of us did not need to chip in much to cover their wages; without them the Hospital ground to a halt.

There is plenty of research to show that the tax system in this country is neither progressive nor redistributive. (If you really want sources go read any introductory sociology book) The greatest burden falling on those with earnings at or below the national average.

Just possible, is it not, that if some of your equally high earning counterparts in less closely scrutinised industries paid their share, your's could be reduced.

I pay way too much tax, infact over 2 grand a month of it

if your paying that much tax I find it hard to believe you don't use an accountant.
Most of us know somebody earning "mega bucks", if you can persuade them to discus their financial details with any candour you're probably in for a shock. The people I've known who earn the most seem also to pay least tax, including a friend who, years ago, was paying less tax on £1,ooo per week than I was paying through PAYE on less than £100.
As a country we probably lose more to tax "avoidance" (just a polite word for evasion in my opinion) than we do to the dreaded "scroungers" , "benefit cheats" etc.
For a really high tax band, look to them; anything they manage to earn is taxed at £1 in the £1. Yes we save our highest tax ,100% ,for the poorest in our community.

Not luck, hard work. I did not at any point say it was easy.

go read Fooled by Randomness and get some perspective on life. Behavior patterns that lead to astronomical success tend to be very similar to those which lead to catastrophic failure. If it was just a matter of hard work the world would be full of millionaires, it is more closely related to the level of risk one is prepared (or able) to expose ones self to.

Completely different thing and what a ridiculous statement to make. I think you're just after a fight making a comment like that.

Trying to provoke thought and debate not fight.
On one hand we have a life which may potentially make a contribution to the well being of humanity- or just be, or make someone else, happy. On the other we have people like Brady. Some may find the burden of their guilt unbearable, others find only the consequences (punishment) of their guilt unbearable. Either way, they are not likely to make any further worthwhile contribution to their own or anyone else's life. If they are actually requesting it, terminate their lives and let everyone else get on with living.

Don't mean to start a whole new debate but, we happily terminate the lives of unborn kids that can't give consent - so where's the big moral dilemma it granting the wishes of a lucid competent adult who wants their life terminated. I know it only goes a tiny step towards solving the problem of what to do with individuals like him, but when there's a quick and easy solution to even just part of a problem why not use it?

Tips on stopping Smoking
Posted: 8/18/2008 7:33:43 AM
Been off them for about seven years. Tried patches for a couple of days, just held me at the point at which I'd usually have lit up. (I was one of those relentless smokers, could barely go 1/2 an hour.) Took the patch off and made a roll up as i had decided it wasn't going to happen. my then wife so happened to phone, suggested just hang off as long as possible. Thought ok, this is my last; not going to take it till till it gets to the point where I just can't live without it. Carried the damned thing about for days as it slowly fell to pieces (but god was i careful with it) then lost it. Yep, never actually got to the point where something terrible was going to happen for the need /want of it. By that time the addiction had been starved and didn't have the same power over me.

Had started reading Allan Carr's book years before and stopped, because I could feel it persuading me to give up the weed. Lots of what I had read did start coming back to me, which I'm sure helped.

Take a drink of cold water when cravings come, better than masking horrid taste with sweets/gum. Helps you focus on what a mining habit it is, and avoids just setting up another addiction.

Maybe shouldn't say this but, have had an odd one on nights out since but never felt any impulse to smoke next day.
NB Didn't dare try it till had been off them for 3 or 4 years.

Best of luck to all who try and remember you are in fact just an EX-NONsmoker going back to what comes natural.

Rape victims compensation cut because they had been drinking
Posted: 8/15/2008 8:31:18 AM
Everyone who is in employment should have had their responsibilities under the health and safety at work act explained to them. If they fail to take reasonable precautions and this results in an accident they can be liable to prosecution never mind reduced compensation.
However what are reasonable precautions, what counts as maintaining a safe living environment?
Is anyone aware of how this relates to young men (yes I am aware of increasing involvement of young women) injured in street violence. Is their criminal injuries compensation reduced if it can be shown they had been drinking or in some other way failed to take reasonable precautions. Is it completely withheld if it can be shown that they have ever had any involvement in gang culture?
Not sure if this holds with reports of increasing gang/drug related violence; but when I studied these thing many years ago, the most likely target for violent street crime was well dressed middle aged middle class men. Usually in the vicinity of cash machines. Again do you loose compensation if you've just stepped out of your BMW/Merc. dressed in an Armani suite and lifted your day's limit from a cash machine?
Obviously we all have a responsibility to keep ourselves safe, and some behaviors are so extreme as to warrant being labeled contributory negligence, but simply being drunk and fashionably dressed seems seems an awful harsh interpretation of this.
Bear in mind though that if the plaintiff accuses rape on the grounds of not having been unable to give informed consent, having being drinking all night with the defendant(s), do the latter not have an equally valid defense of temporarily diminished responsibility?
Hard cases make bad laws!

Missing the whole point. Who really cares who is the best out of a bunch of soft southern g...What really matters is that rangers are out of Europe, having to sell players to keep the bailiffs from the door and Celtic will once again triumph.
And don't be fooled by past sissy league successes, if wee Strach had access to the money that Ferguson gets via Sky .........up here we survive on less cash than your championship teams, when did one of them last have a run in, never mind reach the final of, a European competition.
When the inevitable happens and the rest of you have to compete with the two teams with the biggest world wide support, apart from Man. U., you'll learn a bit about the game!!!!
