Please Help!

Even if I did it must be made more obvious to people that they are going to banned from talking to most anyone on the site if they write to that person. I don't always look at their reason for being on POF before writing to them. A message should warn me if Im about to exclude myself so permanently from people.

Ill just have to Delete my account and start over if someone doesn't help fix this problem.

Cannot be reset.

Still, POF is a "social" site by design, rather than a technical or academic one, so the tendency of people to "chat" is natural, even on forums

This is a Forum, not a Chatroom. Social, Technical or Academic is only relevant as it pertains to the Topic under Discussion. Chatting is as natural on these Forums as Moderators banning Users that do.

why have forums at all?

You haven't read the Link I provided above.

Why not convert everything to "read-only"; people can browse for answers to their questions.

Again ... read the Link ... I'll post it one more Time.

if quality forums are the goal, why keep "junk threads" at all, let alone for years?

We delete them when found or reported. The Admin requested that 2004 Threads not be removed for yet other historical Reasons which go back to the Time this Site was incepted.

Moderators can cap the Post Count per User up to 5 Posts.

How do I know this .... well I have been reporting them when I see them, sometimes multiple times and then I add them to my favourites list to check how long it takes for the site to do what they seem to do to me almost instantly.

Yes, I have noticed that too, and seems to be the Case. Likely far more Reports are required to remove non-compliant Women's Pics

than Men's, as they are the leading Attraction & Revenue for this Site, and so commented on by the Admin many Years ago.

There appears to be a Hole in the Searches in Respect to Smokers. Many of those who don't

smoke, but have not restricted Smokers in their Mail Settings will often not see Smokers in their Search Pages, unless specifically sought after using the Advanced Search.

No a way to put a review about another member, for instance you go on a date it goes badly and it total opposite a way to rate the date and review the pros n cons of it for others to see.

That's a Rating System which does not contribute to Discussions, and turns Threads into Popularity Contests steering Topics into certain Directions, spawning Cliques to harass Posters and Groups of Posters.

Ok, so Linux Coding is in it's Infancy, I never disagreed with that, just let People know ... very simple. Actually, the expert in question was specific that the problems with coding are across nearly all environments. Yes, you have given an Example, but what do base your Premise on that Coding is still in it's Infancy? Coding has been around for well over half a Century. What constitutes Coding in its "Mature" State, and that some other Bloke won't come along in 20 Years Time making the same Claim because some future "Error handling of programming languages" still needs to be remedied? So can we construe this to be an arbitrary Assessment or something that could be considered factual? It just makes me wonder if you aren't operating from a position of lack of information. Let's give the suggestive, irrelevant and immaterial Queries a Break. I didn't write that I was writing about only Linux programming, or even about Linux programming as well as other things. Please don't make false claims about selective interpretations of what I wrote, especially if you're not a programmer, and you don't have the knowledge to understand the point enough to interpret it. Your preceding Sentence dealt with Redhat Linux, it safe assume that the following Sentence would also be applicable to it. I suggest you exercise better Clarification. If you are going to talk about something not within the Context you previously discussed, then make use of Paragraphs. To qualify any Statement in respect to Programming ... no programming is required, you were simply asked to delineate further. Anyways ... we are heading too far off the Thread Topic ...

I don't think it really matters if I unhide or hide my profile. .I still seem to get the same results. People cannot find you when they search ... Hidden Profile means you are off the Radar, People cannot see you.

I dunno Ticket, kinda hate to disagree cuz the thought is nice You are not getting 200 Userbase Queries a Week. seems to me there's a lot of folks here who've taken creative writing to the the PhD level Many ... Yes. Many also copy from Canned Lists with Fill-In-The-Blanks as well as cobble-jobs from other Sites. OK, grant you more insight than the average fish , but hey there's gotta be a few, I mean you got to keep up hope, no? Not so far ... doesn't Matter anyways. You meet them and find out, there is no other Way. See for yourself. Its not always a bad Thing either, just not what's on the Profile. All those supposed Interests ... they haven't done them in 20 Years, so its more a Historical than anything resembling current Activities they are participating in ... lol Now not that I'm interested in your gender, honestly!!! But take me out for a date I'll make sure you pay the meal and drinks I'm touched ... lol thank you for that insight, pity as it may be. I also believe we have a somewhat higher Male-to-Female Ratio here now than previously. been on many others the results aren't much different, mostly more BS and you pay for it...shesh ....how much more for a sucker can one be played I have never been on any other Ones, thus I go primarily by what other Users have stated.

So you female fish state the facts and not your pipe dream. I think that goes for anyone ... regardless of Gender ... and filling out the About Me Profile text Field is a gut-wrenching Experience for many People ... lol ... they don't want to talk about themselves, don't know what to say, wonder if they'll come across as Sleazies, Retards, etc. Thus many plagiarize other People's Profiles, copy & paste all sorts of Stuff together. I have yet to see anything written in any Profile that even remotely has any Bearing on that User ... Treat it the same as the 'National Enquirer' ... for "Entertainment Only" ... lol As for the ones that don't have the common courtesy to at least respond to someone who takes the time to make contact. You should list yourself as shallow, This pond is becoming murkier by the second. In my Opinion, the Response Rate is less than a Third of what it was 4 Years ago. Too overrun by Bogus & Fake Profiles, Scammers, Crazies, Revengers, Married Folks in Need of a Feather in their Cap, People who are actually not really looking ... these make up about 70% - 80% of the Lot. Although this is the largest Dating Site in the World, I believe its also among the least Responsive ... and if this Trend continues will slowly ease its Way out of Existence as an ineffective Medium.

Most claim they made a mistake putting in the date and it won't change. Wtf? They forget their own birthdate? Just my own Opinion on this ... most are actually Mistakes, and obviously some People do it deliberately. You only have 2 Weeks to notice the Error and change it, after that ... its cast in Stone. You'd have to make a new Profile after that to correct the Date. I would say, based on Userbase Queries, the #1 Profile Mistake is inadvertantly selecting the same Gender under "I am Seeking a, and that one is far more common than incorrect on Age. Unhide your Profile, you'll get more Views. ...... anywho ....... Can't say I have ever considered myself that Way, not important.

Microsoft makes Frontpage http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/frontpage/default.aspx Yes, I know that. Its third party Software, although Windows was also developed by Microsoft, ie. FrontPage is not any Part of Windows. Nevertheless, what was your Point? In addition to other Company Software, any Software not part of the Operating System but made by the same Vendor is also often referred to as 3rd. Party Software. Okay, thought he was referring to 'computer coding' in general No, and his Post makes it quite clear he was referring to Linux Coding.

It's geared more toward a 'Server OS', Red Hat does not try to compete with Windows as a desktop OS... their Server can be used as a desktop for those who are technically minded Red Hat originally set out developing both a Desktop & Server OS, but gave up on the Desktop End. Yeah, they did try to compete a long Time ago, but *buntu is now holding the Flag. They gave up. Maybe you're thinking about Ubuntu trying to compete in the Desktop market. Maybe if I was thinking about Ubuntu I would have stated Ubuntu. They are just the current most popular Linux Johnny-Come-Lately. ....have you ever seen the source from pages created by Frontpage? Are you using one particular Example of Third Party Software to make a Point about Windows? I am not a Coder ... Windows works for me, Linux doesn't. You'll have to take further discussions up with Scorpiomover, as it was his Point that Linux Coding was in its Infancy.

They always say that if you don't have a patent, or other form of guaranteed exclusive right, it's not worth investing in, because the minutes someone sees you are successful, 50,000 people will copy you, and then you make nothing. So what you are saying is that the Non-Patent System of Development doesn't work quite as well then, therefore I have good Cause to pay for MacOS/Windows as my Desktop OS because it has been well developed. Like you said ... Linux is not worth investing in ... Microsoft have Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 patented. They wouldn't have made them otherwise. Since these OSs work exceptionally well, its obvious that the Business Model is required to get a decent Desktop OS Product ... by your own Statements. They have been doing a measure of that, and the oldest, RedHat, has been running for 17 years. 17 Years ... and they still don't have a decent Desktop OS. Last I heard they ended Support for Desktop or something on that Order and focused on the Server Side. Even acknowledged experts in computer programming, have pointed out that coding is still in its infancy, and change control management systems, and development lifecycles are just cases of that. Ok, so Linux Coding is in it's Infancy, I never disagreed with that, just let People know ... very simple. I take it you don't get Dragon's Den, or you don't watch it. Did you not learn from how IBM messed up with DOS? You seriously need to stop muddling up your Posts with suggestive, irrelevant and immaterial Queries.

My only choice is to click on the profile to get it off the Not Viewed list.

Never heard of, or seen that before.

Personally I do not care, but I do find it annoying to receive all these contacts from guys who ask why I keep viewing their profiles.

They just don't know how the 'Viewed Me' Feature works.

I see the same individuals again that I initially saw in the not Viewed.

States he is a former recovered Drug Addict, but has a Profile Setting "Do you do drugs?" set to "Yes" She is "married" but emphatically states she is only looking for a Long Term relationship and IE Seekers should move on, but listed herself under "Other Relationship". She always sleeps with her 5 dogs ... and he must like dogs to be "compatible" with her. She's "average" but has a huge drooping Sack of Lard under her Chin. ... ad inifintum. Many People either did not double-check their Settings, User Errors, or the "Edit Profile" Page Settings did not take because of Restricted Profile Content and they never noticed.

Marijuana is illegal because of political pressure. Any Company has a legal Right to dismiss any Employee who fails a Drug Test. In most Cases, their Insurance requires it, and they don't buy into this "It's my Business" Non-sense as People under the Influence of Substances have their Judgment adversely affected, Response Time reduced, Attention Deficit, general lesser Awareness of Surroundings, Accident Proneness and a Host of other proven Maladies that simply are not suitable for a safe working Environment. Even 2 Months after smoking Cannabis it's still detectable in your System, and makes you inelligible for any Number of Jobs in various Industries. It's a legal Issue, not in what you believe. Go to the WCB Site ... they'll tell you all about it. Your Employer has the full legal Right at any Time to send you down to WCB for Drug Testing and dismiss you on the Spot if any Traces are found. You will never have any Job Security when you use restricted Substances such as Marijuana. WCB & the Insurance Industry won't have it, whether it's legalized or not. As much as you hope certain restricted Substances will be legalized, that simply cannot happen here, it's too interdependent on other Legalities, be they medical, educational or Workplace related. And even further, yet other Issues pertaining to Law Enforcement of both Sides of the Border would break that Long Term Relationship, forcing the U.S. to stop co-operating with the RCMP on many Levels, incl., forcing Thousands of Cases to be dropped by both Sides they have been working on for Years. Currently, if you have been convicted in any Country for Drug related Charges, the U.S., as well as many other Countries, will not let you enter. When you decriminalize or legalize it in Canada, that System breaks down, and the U.S. will add further Restrictions & Red Tape for Entry. Law Enforcement breaks down, the legal System breaks down ... Its not just a simple Matter of "Political Will". The Effects of such Legislation are Worldwide. If a Canadian politician stands up for the Canadian tax payer that doesn't agree with spending more money on drug policies that have failed for over forty years than that politician runs the risk of having his opposition paint him as 'soft' on drugs. If more Politicians started to grow some Balls and have any Drug Dealer executed and Users sent to labour Camp ... Problem solved. As long as they pussy-foot around with Probation, Community Work, 30 Day Stints ... that is the real Failure behind these Policies ... in the end they have no Teeth. No Policy or Law will work if the Punishment/Consequences do not deter.

why does it cycle about the same 10-15 profiles for that but not the row above that where they are just a bunch of random ones?

Be it the Inbox, Mail Settings, Favourites, Images, etc. Pages, each has their own Algorythm what Users are, or very recently were Online Now.

The Admin has never provided any more Information on this.

It's true that if Linux was to be run as an organisation with a development management system, to ensure a proper list of things to be developed, and if all Linux developers were to join such an organisation, and to complete tasks according to assignments, then things would be properly managed, and then the things that needed to get done, would get done. Canonical Inc. aka "Ubuntu" & Red Hat, SuSE have been doing that for Years/Decade. Considering Microsoft is hauling in Billions monthly, if Linux was really 'Hot Potatoes' with a lot of Potential, why isn't anyone throwing serious Money after it? WinXP does it for me ... it works, never any Problems or Headaches.

Faxing is antiquated as well. Many Gov't, Medical & Law Offices here will only accept ground Mail or Fax, but nothing via the Internet. Submission of Job Applications to local Companies & Contractual Authorizations are usually done by Fax too. Most Gov't Filing Forms are available on the Net in 'fillable' PDF Format, which can be filled out Online if you like, and then sent directly out of Adobe Acrobat via the Fax Printer Driver, with a PDF/Fax copy saved to HDD in the same fell Swoop.

Also, make sure Security is not set to "High" in your Internet Options.

I have followed instructions and there is nothing at the bottom of the users page to report.

This is still a new Account and many reporting Functions are not yet available to you for 30 Days.

It won't let me update my user name!!!!!!

I have tried using the edit profile buttons several times to change my username and then hit the button update profile and it will NEVER accept my username change.

Do a User Search to check if that User Name has not already been taken. If someone with a Hidden Profile has that Handle, you will not find it.

Try another User Name for Testing. If it takes, then that User Name was taken by a Hidden Profile User, and you will have to pick another ID.

Try changing your Password at the same Time too.

Also, delete your Cookies and Temporary Internet Files and reboot your Computer.

Before

logging back into POF, also ensure your Cookies are enabled

I've already messaged all of them with no response anyways...

Even a complete 100% Mr. Perfect will net no more than an average of 8% User Response, about a 1/3 of what it used to be 5 Years ago.

Why no fax capability on a DSL line but ok with a modem? I have a PCI Modem, with phone Line plugged in, and I also have ADSL Internet. I fax and surf at the same Time. Earlier Dial-up Internet required that you get off the Net so you can fax. I am not aware you can send anything but 'Internet Faxes' over DSL, or any other Internet Connection.

It only counts when you First Contact other IE/Sex Seeking Users, not when they message you.

Except for the (2) Two Reasons mentioned above - NO.

If you feel the same User continues to harrass you deleting & re-creating new Profiles, then use the "Report Member" Link at the Bottom of that Profile. The System will pick up on the Reports, "Connect the Dots" after a while, and then prevent that User from creating new Accounts, perma-banning him from Site.

Actually, its your IE8 that is letting that happen.

Use the Firefox Browser with Adblock to permanently get rid of these Nuisances, and so you won't be back here again whining about yet another Piece of Malware you picked up from Someplace.

How do I get and use an inexpensive web cam? You can try a local computer Store, some Chain such as Computer City, in Florida CheapGuys.com. They'll have a good Selection that meets your Budget.

Big Question re: Allow a user to see that I viewed their profile

Thanks for the reply. Let's say if I sent her an email right after viewing her profile, then I block the user. Would that work?

No Matter what you do, short of either hiding or deleting your Profile, you will always show up on her "Viewed Me" Page whenever you log into your E-Mail until Time immemorial.
